Chapter 13
"What?" I asked in total disbelief.
"Your mother is alive," Fowler answered.
"Then why haven't I been allowed to see her?" I demanded.
"That's complicated, Beau," Fowler answered.
"Why can't you just tell me? I've lived nine and a half years of my life believing that my mother was killed and now you're telling me that was wrong! I need to know man!" I said getting in Fowler's face.
"We don't know where your mother is," Fowler said in an even voice. "We just know that she's alive."
I looked away from Fowler and took a deep breath to try and get rid of my building frustration. "How do you know that she's alive?" I asked.
"Because she's the director of the operations here and she's the one that gives General Bryce his orders and he gives those orders to us."
I looked back at Fowler in utter shock and shook my head. "You're telling me that my mother is responsible for all of this," I said gesturing to the surrounding area.
"I am."
"Well, I guess it's becoming a family thing than isn't it?"
Fowler chuckled and clasped me on the back in a friendly manner. "Come on kid, let's get you back to base," he said.
"Getting tired of me already, Fowler?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"You could say that," Fowler answered.
A ground bridge opened and I nodded to Fowler before walking through it. Even though I hadn't found a project to ease my mind I had found a valuable piece of information: my mother was alive. I came through the bridge and was back at the Autobot base and I was greeted by a not so happy looking doc-bot. "Hey, Ratch," I said.
"You are supposed to be on bed rest and recovering!" Ratchet chastised me. "You just suffered heart failure and you're already moving around, unacceptable!"
"I feel fine, Ratchet," I said. When he glared at me I sighed and said, "Honest I do. If I feel anything I'll come to you immediately, I promise."
"Alright, anything happens to you, by the AllSpark there will be Pit to pay!" Ratchet said.
I noticed Bumblebee walking over to the tunnel that led out of the base and I wandered over to him. "Hey, Bee, where ya going?" I asked.
He whirred and chirped at me in Morse code type style and told me that he was going to pick up Raf and then go race.
"Can I come with?" I asked.
Bee transformed into his sleek muscle car design and opened his passenger side door. I smiled and climbed in. I clicked my seat belt in place and leaned back into the soft leather. "Thanks, Bee," I said gratefully.
Bee chirped and drove off. He turned on the radio and flipped through the stations. I heard a song that I liked and asked him to go back to that station. The kind-hearted guardian did what I asked and I closed my eyes and listened to the song. It was just starting and in the beginning of the intro. I couldn't help but start to sing along with it either: "A company, always on the run/Destiny, ooh it's the rising sun uhh,/ I was born a shotgun in my hands/ Behind the gun, I'll make my final stand yeah/ And that's why they call me/ Bad company I can't deny/ Bad bad company til the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Rebel souls, deserters we've been called/ Chose a gun and threw away the sun uhh/ Now these towns they all know our names/ The death punch sound is our claim to fame/ That's why they call me/ Bad company I can't deny/ Bad bad company til the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Eye for an eye/ Tooth for a tooth/ Blood for blood/ We've all gotta die/ We've all gotta die/ I waited the solo out and then came back in And that's why they call me/ Bad company I won't deny/ Bad bad company til the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Bad company I won't deny/ Bad bad company til the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die/ Until the day I die." The song ended and Bee chirped at me in Morse code.
"Thanks, Bee, I just had to sing that," I answered. "I love Five Finger Death Punch and that's one of my favorites at the moment."
We stopped outside of Raf's house and Bee opened the door. I got out and Raf came out of his house carrying a large RC car. Knowing Raf it was most likely supercharged. "Hey, Raf," I greeted.
"Hi, Beau," Raf said as he climbed into the back seat. I got in and Bee closed the door. We drove off and onto the highway.
We were almost to the racing spot when Bumblebee was commed by the base. Ratchet's voice came through the com and said, "Bumblebee, the team may require backup. They're three clicks north of your current position just off the highway. If you drop Beau and Raf at the exit ramp I can bridge them back to base from there."
Bee chirped back at me and Raf and Raf looked up from the backseat. "It's okay Bee, we'll go racing another time."
Bee moved the rear view mirror and I looked in it and saw something flying through the air. I opened my mouth and was about to ask what it was when it fired purple shots at us. Bumblebee managed to dodge a few of the shots and then we were finally hit. Bee swerved and the UFO flew off. I started to feel weird and I looked back at Raf as Bee lowered his rear view mirror.
"You alright back there, Raf?" I asked. I didn't get a response and I was starting to see dots. "Raf!" I then saw the RC car fall to Bee's floor and it was soon followed by the boy's hand. "RAF!" I screamed as Bumblebee sped off at top speed.
I struggled to remain alert as I unbuckled my seat belt. I shook my head and Bee beeped at me. "I'm fine, Bee," I said.
Bee stopped and opened the door. I got out and he transformed. He held Raf in his hands and I saw that we were at a military base. I saw Megatron and I realized that it was the warlord that had shot us. Bee stopped in front of Arcee and she looked shocked and sad. "Raf," she said in concern. She took him from Bee's hands and said, "He's breathing, barely." My heart almost stopped when I heard those words. I transformed my prosthetic into a gun and glared at Megatron.
Megatron smirked and said, "Ahh, it would seem that I've swatted a bee and squashed a bug."
Bee looked down right murderous and he was held back by Bulkhead. I took a step forward and collapsed onto my knees. "Make that two bugs," Megatron sneered.
"Go to hell," I spat.
"Beau!" Bulkhead said.
"I'm fine!" I growled standing back up, but knowing that I wasn't. I lifted my gun at Megatron and he laughed.
"What is that going to do, boy?" he demanded.
"Take out your optics," I growled.
"Ratchet, we need a ground bridge, now!" Optimus ordered. I never heard him this urgent before.
A ground bridge opened behind me and I transformed my hand back into a regular prosthetic and felt extremely tired. "Arcee, attend to Rafael and Bumblebee, take Beau with you," Optimus ordered keeping his own gun trained on Megatron.
Arcee turned to the ground bridge and touched Bumblebee on the chest and turned him towards the bridge. "Come on, kid," she said to me.
"Coming," I said through gritted teeth as I walked after them.
I saw Ratchet's shocked expression as soon as I entered the base, along with Miko's and Jack's.
"Raf," Jack said.
"No!" Miko exclaimed.
"What happened?" Ratchet demanded rushing forward.
"Megatron," Arcee said simply
"Quickly into my laboratory!" Ratchet ordered.
Arcee brought Raf to a human sized bed and set him on it.
"Rafael isn't responding! We must run diagnostics on his assemblage, vital statistics! Ugh my tools, they're all wrong!" Ratchet then threw his tools away in anger. I leaned against the wall and placed a hand to my head.
I lost track of what was going on and suddenly became aware that I had transformed my prosthetic, I hadn't put in a code to change it like I had in the past. Why though, why was that happening? Flare came running back from the corridors and saw me. "Beau!" she exclaimed.
I looked up and said, "I'm fine, it's Raf that we have to worry…worry…" everything went black for a second and then I was looking up at two sets of optics, Flare's and Arcee's. "Bee, was he with you when you were shot by Megatron?" Arcee asked.
Bee chirped and whistled letting everyone know that I had indeed been with when we were all shot together.
"I'm alright," I said.
"No, you're not!" Flare snapped at me.
I gave my guardian a half hearted smile and said softly, "Don't worry about me, Flare, I've been through worse."
"Getting shot with Dark Energon isn't worse than what exactly?" she asked me.
"I can name a few to you later," I said. "How's Raf?"
"Alive and well," Arcee said.
"Good, how long have I been out?"
"About two hours," Flare answered.
I sat up and shook my head. "Help me up please," I said.
"Why?"
"Because I want to stand," I answered looking at Arcee and at Flare.
"Ratchet, Beau's awake and alert," Flare yelled behind her.
"How is he doing?" he asked.
"He doesn't seem to be exhibiting signs of Energon exposure like Rafael had," Flare said.
"But why?" Ratchet asked.
"Why knows?" Arcee shrugged.
I thought back to my prosthetic transforming and I clenched it involuntarily. "I feel fine, can I get up or not Ratchet?" I asked.
Ratchet walked over and scanned me with his scanner and it was green except for one spot, my prosthetic. Ratchet narrowed his optics and scanned me again, now there were two red spots, my prosthetic and my heart. He scanned a third time and it stayed two red spots. "What in Primus' name…" Ratchet started in disbelief.
"What?" I asked.
"Your cells are bonding with the Dark Energon instead of fighting it off and trying to kill you," Ratchet said. "Your prosthetic has become a vitalized limb like one of ours."
"Meaning…" I said gesturing.
"Your prosthetic can transform like ours can at will now," Ratchet answered.
"I see, can you contact Agent Fowler, I would very much like to speak to him," I said.
"About what?" Flare asked.
"A project," I said looking off into some corner of the room. After what Megatron had just done to Raf, I wanted my part in this war to go to the next level. I wanted in on whatever it was that Fowler had proposed to me earlier. I wanted to fight and to end this war for the Autobots. I wanted to help them see peace so that the tyrannical and power hungry would not injure innocents like Raf.
