1. "I'm just trying to help." "Well, I hate to break it to you, but you just made it worse."

7. "Why didn't you tell me?"

18. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"

Broken Momento

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked 'Mione, my voice low.

Hermione squirmed in her seat at my question; her hands clenching the book tighter. "...Headmaster-"

I cut her off. "Dumbledore's the reason?" Hermione frowned and opened her mouth, but I didn't give her a chance to speak. "'Mione, if our positions were switched, I would've told you regardless because you're one of my best friends, practically my sister." No matter how hard I tried to keep myself calm, my voice portrayed the hurt I felt at her decision. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"

Hermione looked uncomfortable, not speaking for a while. She didn't meet my gaze when she finally spoke, voice soft. "...I thought I could fix it before you found out - or, at least, that Headmaster Dumbledore would be able to find a way to fix it."

My eyes closed as I inhaled and exhaled. I swallowed my anger and blinked back tears. "It's a one-of-a-kind, 'Mione. Even if you or Dumbledore fixed it, it wouldn't be the same because it'd be missing what made it one-of-a-kind." Because he's gone, was left unsaid, but implied and understood.

"I'm just trying to help." Hermione defended herself, voice meek.

My eyes closed as I replied. "Well, I hate to break it to you, but you just made it worse." I opened my eyes, turned on my heels, and headed to the exit.
