Kent Farm Lois Lane strikes again
Lois sat at her desk looking across her desk to the spot where her one time partner used to sit Clark Kent. Lois was facing a change in her life she had finally gotten what she always wanted a network anchor position. She had always pictured it being her and Clark Kent fulfilling that opportunity not her solo. Lois sat reflecting on the past it all came down to Lana, the event that pushed Clark away from her forever, she still felt that Clark should have been hers.
She finally had enough she needed answers, she just had to know it was killing her that Lana Lang had that much power over what she termed her man. Lois made up her mind next stop, the Kent farm then goodbye to the life she had known for several years and on to the greater opportunities in New York City and National Broadcast News. Lois climbed into her car after shoving the trash out of the way so she had a place to set her bags. She hoped this car would make the trip, cars had never been important to Lois something to get you to one place or the other and it made a nifty closet too!
Lois finally saw the sign for Smallville up ahead her car had been spitting out a steady smoke stack of steam for the last few miles she hoped the car would at least get her as far as the Kent farm. It had been a long time, she hadn't driven or been this way in years. She finally saw the Kent farm sign and the red barn and yellow house as she pulled into the driveway her car started to sputter and buck "oh come on you piece of crap just a few more feet come on damn it"! Moments later the engine quit with a loud clank as a rod exited the engine block causing the engine to seize and stop. Lois got her bags out of the car and walked to the front door.
Lois knocked and waited. It seemed no one was home, she looked around well she thought captain plaid always spent time in the barn of all places so she decided to go over and check it out. She almost fell and broke her neck trying to climb the stairs with 5 inch heels on. Lois was now pissed her favorite Jimmy Choo's were broken. "Farm boy are you up there she shouted". No answer "damn it" , "Smallville where the hell are you". Lois continued up the stairs she was shocked there were kid toys everywhere. "What the hell happened" where was all of farm boys junk she recalled? She walked over to the dutch doors and opened them letting in light.
One of Clarks hands saw the doors open on the Kent barn dutch doors they all knew that the senator was in Washington so whoever was there didn't belong. Jack picked up his cell and called the sheriff "hey sheriff it looks like somebody is at the Kent farm and the Senator is at work in Washington." "I think it would be a good idea to send out a patrol car to see who is in the barn".
"Well that is a good idea." "Jack can't have the Senator mad at me for letting someone trespass on her farm while she's gone."
"Right I'll head over after I let the boss know what's going on."
"I'll tell the patrol to expect you."
"Thanks sheriff."
Moments later a cruiser is headed for Senator Martha Kents farm. Jack jumped into his truck and waited on the patrol car to arrive at the entrance to the Farm. Clark had been in his underground Lab it took a few minutes for Clark to get the message that an intruder was at the Kent farm. Clark left by way of the portal system to his office and then walked across the field to his Mom's house to face whoever was there after the sheriff's patrol did their thing.
Clark waited a moment while walking over he saw the sheriff's car drive up to the barn he noticed a strange car almost parked in the middle of the drive. Clark X-rayed the car it seems the engine was blown. A minute later the sheriffs deputies walked out a woman who was being very loud and obstinate to the officers. He could hear the voice was that Lois Lane he was hearing? The deputy shoved the woman into the back seat of his car. He turned as Clark walked up to the sheriff "the woman claims to know you Mr. Kent" he said "and she says she knows your mother too."
Clark looked into the car it was Lois Lane. Clark scratched his head "that's Lois Lane isn't it" he asked the deputy?
"Yes sir" he replied "her ID check's out."
Clark smiled "well better let her out, she's going to complain a lot more if I let you keep her in there, and I need to know what she is doing here as well."
"Will you need us anymore Mr. Kent" asked the deputy? "Are you going to be pressing charges?"
"Yea, no charges, thanks guys" Clark said.
As soon as the deputy opened the car door Lois started "well its about time Smallville, I bet you were laughing your ass off about me being detained."
"No Lois I wasn't laughing, I am wondering what your doing here however?" "I haven't seen you in a very long time, hows the Planet going for you."
"I'm moving on, I got a gig with NBN in New York I'm the new weekend anchor for the network."
"Wow said Clark I can't imagine you leaving the Planet but a network television anchor job would be just the thing to get you to leave Metropolis."
"It wasn't as hard as you would think to come to this decision Clark after you left the Planet it got dull for me there were a lot less exciting things happening in my life and I got caught in a rut for a while." "I kept up and send out audition tapes, finally NBN flew me out and I got the job." "I can get you on as a co-anchor Clark it would be the old Lois and Clark team again" Lois batted her eyelashes at Clark.
"Um thanks Lois but no thanks I'm doing fine running my ranch and with Lana being the local doctor were happy I don't need excitement like New York in my life."
"About that Clark I had a couple of things I wanted to talk to you about before I leave for good do you have time to talk to me before I leave for good" asked Lois?
"Sure let me get something to drink from Mom's house and we can sit on the porch and talk if that's ok?"
"Sure that will work farm boy."
Clark opened the house and went inside while Lois walked over to the porch swing. Clark arrived with a couple of cans of soda "I hope this is ok" as he handed her a coke.
Lois and reached for her purse she opened the coke and poured half out on the ground she retrieved a flask from her purse and poured the contents into the soda can. "Ah, that's better she said "a little jack and coke to get you through the day" she smiled.
Clark had no idea what to say he remained quiet. Lois took another swig from her drink and looked at Clark.
"I just don't get it Clark, I know you felt something for me at one point and then it was the Lana show again." "I know we could have been happy and we might have a chance of being happy together."
"Hold on Lois I'm married to Lana, the love of my life, my soul mate, I don't know where you got this us idea from but were not an us I barely know you anymore."
"Come on Clark when we were dating and we went to the our 5th reunion of Smallville high everything seemed to change." "You drifted away from me and all of a sudden you weren't even showing up at work then I caught a North Africa assignment and was gone for a year and when I came back you were getting married to Lana." "What happened Clark we were happy together or at least I was happy."
"Lois we were never a couple we went on a couple of dates I felt guilty that I was cheating on Lana even then." "Lana and I were forced apart by Lex." "I was trying to move on with my life, I was never happy there has always only been one person in my life and that was Lana she has always been at the center of my world."
"Always has and always will be too." "Lana and I have had all sorts of things thrown at us to keep us apart but we have always found a way back to each other." "Lana is my world Lois, sorry not you."
"When we were at the reunion Suzanne Capra who did the name tags couldn't find one for you because you attended 23 day and only showed up for five of those days." "You were so mad that no one could remember who you were or that you ever went to Smallville high at all." "You were so mad for them not having a pre-printed name tag ready for you."
"Sometime before Greg Akin approached you to tell you to give a message for me and our dance together before the event ended. When you and Mandy talked you finally admitted we weren't together." "Mandy said you were the moth not the flame." "That brought everything into focus for me Lana was and is my Flame she always has been."
"My fears and mistakes of the past kept me in a dark place for almost a year it was Chloe and Oliver who brought me back to the world whatever we had died that day Lois its gone and it will never come back I love Lana I always have and always will." "I knew I was going nowhere with you when I saw Lana's name tag next to mine and all the old feeling I have ever had for her came rushing back."
"I knew then it wasn't you and I started distancing myself from you then." "I'm sorry Lois I thought Chloe told you a long time ago that Clark Kent will always love Lana Lang just as sure as the sun will rise in the morning Clark loves Lana and Lana loves Clark."
"I heard it Clark ok, I just thought I could be the one, not Lana, look at all the times she left you high and dry."
Clark got real mad, "high and dry what are you talking about every time we have been forced apart it has been because of other peoples actions that kept us apart not us walking away from each other." "The only time I walked away from her was when I thought I was protecting her by telling her I didn't love her any more the biggest lie I ever told her and it caused me more pain than you will ever know Lois."
"Lex did several things to keep us apart, he almost won that game, even Lionel did a couple of things to force us apart." "That was the last time thank god we solved that issue."
"Remember the time you were drugged and you were determined we were to be married."
"Yea don't mention that."
"Well things like that kept happening to Lana and I." "Instead of keeping us together we were forced apart, it was the worst time of my life Lois." "Our little thing was me trying to move on with my life but I couldn't, I needed Lana and only Lana." "I'm sorry if this hurts you but this is the truth."
"We have had hell thrown at us as a couple and we have always found a way to grow around what ever has been placed in our path." "Lois I love you like a sister just like I love Chloe, nothing more I'm sorry but that's all."
"Come on Clark you know there was more to it than that, you felt the attraction I know you did." "Chloe even said it."
"Chloe was trying to help me through you being in my life she wanted me to be happy she even forgot her hard learned lesson."
"Stop right there Clark, Chloe kept saying that I was what you needed."
"Chloe just wanted me happy if it could have been you Lois she would have been ecstatic." "Chloe forgot her own rule sure as the sun rises in the east Clark loves Lana and Lana loves Clark and they always find a way back to each other." "I even heard her say it to you a couple of times." "I'm truly sorry Lois, there was never anything solid between us it was at best a distraction, I'm sorry Lois."
Lois looked like she was going to cry she would no longer look at Clark. Her shoulders shrunk more and she seemed to be drawing into herself.
"Lois where are you going can I give you a ride asked a unsure Clark?"
"Yea that would be nice" as Lois started to go down the stairs "take me to the airport I'll charter a flight back to the Metropolis airport and move on Clark." "Thanks for being a friend", Lois was at the point of breaking down she wanted nothing more than Clark to love her but she couldn't deny the facts any more. Even she could see that it was going to be Lana and Clark not Lois and Clark.
Clark picked up his phone "Jack could you bring around the truck we have someone who needs a ride to Smallville airport."
"Sure thing Mr. Kent be there in a moment or two."
Clark entered the barn he closed and locked the dutch door. He remembered every time he and Lana had ever stood in the loft together he felt a warm glow all over. Clark smiled to himself as the last lock was closed on the barn.
Lois sat on her luggage as Jack pulled up with the truck Clarks old pick up the old red ford he had back in high school. Lois shook her head ever think about upgrading farm boy she thought. Lois took one final look around she muttered under her breath "good riddance to this place and Clark Kent."
Clark didn't like the look on Lois's face he thought for a moment "hey Jack can you take our guest to the airport for me".
"Sure Mr. Kent, be back in a half hour or so never know about that heavy Smallville traffic" he joked. "Want me to pick up anything on the way back from town?"
"Cant think of anything but I'll call if something comes to mind." "Look Lois I hope you have a great life in the big apple your always welcome here at the farm, Lois don't be a stranger ok" said Clark.
"Well the big apple isn't far either come and visit the big city some time, who knows I might even give you a guided tour."
Jack placed the last of Lois's bags in the truck bed, Lois got in and closed the door Jack started the truck Lois said "one last time your sure about this Clark" she asked? Not believing that she had lost Clark, in reality she never had him in the first place it would take her a while to understand that but she would get it finally years later.
"Lo" said Clark "I'm good, take care of yourself good luck on your new position too we will be watching."
Jack started down the drive "you known Mr. Kent for long Ms. Lane" he asked?
"It seems like forever someday's" she had a tear rolling down her cheek. Lois dug around in her purse she had something she no longer wanted in there a chunk of a green rock wrapped in lead I wont ever need this, nor the other one as she unwrapped a red rock too both found their way out the truck window seconds later.
Jack noted her objects and her disposing of them. He said nothing the rest of the way leaving Lois to ponder a future without superheros or Clark Kent in it. Lois sat their lost in her thoughts she wanted nothing more then to forget all of this ever happened.
A Hour Later
Clark had just finished with the kids putting them down for a nap. He was glad that this situation went the way it did with Lois it seems she came prepared to do something stupid both green and red meteor rocks in lead foil she was planning on doing something. Jack retrieved the stones from the farm on his return from the airport. All their hands knew they were allergic to any meteor rocks so all of them were taken in town to the center Clark established years ago for disposal.
Thank god Clark said the right things and she didn't use the rocks on him. Clark was glad he didn't talk about everything that happened that day. Everything was going along fine he almost liked Lois she was fun to be with, a little slutty for Clark but still fun to be around the thing that drove him crazy was Lois was a trouble magnet he spent more time saving her than he ever spent saving Lana. Lois was gone now it was nice only having Jor El trying to direct him now.
Still that day was the one that set a lot of things in place Brainiac had shown up and did a convincing job of selling Clark that Lois Lane was going to be his future. Brainiac stopped time in the gym where they were crowning Clark as Homecoming King, Clark was embarrassed yet again he was being thrust into the spotlight a light he would gladly share with Lana but couldn't see it with Lois.
Brainiac 5 as he called himself told him that there were many great thing he was to do married to Lois and took him on a tour of his past and future. He got to see what his dad did that killed him the fight with Lionel that he got to see. The explanation of how he became Brainiac 5 and how he works with the legion to fight for right.
The part that didn't fly was when he showed Clark a bunch of flashes about he and Lana and how she was his past that he had to let go, Clark thought something was up and grasped the ring breaking it in the process and Brainiac disintegrated into ash and dust in front of his eye as time returned to its normal pace.
That got Clark thinking, he missed Greg Atkins approaching Lois once he did he almost supersede over to save her but he heard Greg tell Lois to tell him thanks for showing him the way. Then he over heard Mandy sympathize with Lois that she was the moth not the flame.
That hit home hard it sounded so true it actually made Clark depressed he had lost his soulmate he had no way of getting her back. Clark was more upset with himself than anything and then his call to Oliver to tell him he thought he was doing the right thing by going public about his green arrow personality.
Later that night as he sat in the loft he had a smile on his face as he looked at pictures of Lana and he together. He decided he had to see Jor El and find a cure for her condition. When Clark wasn't at the fortress he as in the loft and he just sat their reliving every moment he ever had with Lana.
His friends thought he had retreated into himself and he was dealing with depression that was the reason Chloe encouraged Lois to have a relationship with Clark but Clark had already turned that corner Lois wasn't what he wanted or needed it was Lana, he just had to solve the problem.
Later that same day
Clark sat for a hour or two thinking about what had happened, he was still at a loss but happy that he and Lana were together and were never going to be separated again by heaven or earth. Clark started to get diner ready for the kids Lana would be coming home later than normal tonight it was her free clinic night so it was always a different time when she came home.
She kept the place open until they took care of all the patients she had even most of the doctors at the hospital volunteering at her free clinic no questions asked just free medical care for who ever needed it. Unless in involved gun wounds these were reported to the police as soon as they were identified.
Lana finally made it home around 1:30 am it was a long night with several complication that had to be turned over to the hospital. Lana was tired she could feel Clarks mood as soon as she drove up the drive to find her husband sitting on the porch waiting for his wife to join him with a desert and coffee.
"Hey baby I love you" said Lana.
"I Love you more" said Clark.
"Lois showed up at the farm today seems she didn't get the memo we moved to the ranch, she wanted me to leave with her to New York to be her co anchor what made it worse was she had red and green kryptonite on her she didn't use it on me but threw it out the window of the truck as Jack was taking her off to the airport."
"I hate to say someones out of my life but I'm glad she is gone, if she had meteor rock and was willing to use them she doesn't belong in our life remind me later to tell mom what happened too."
"Are you ok Clark?"
"Just disappointed in someone I thought I knew better guess I didn't know her as well as I thought."
"If she used those stones on either or both of us we could have had died or worse went or a red kryptonite fueled binge."
"I don't want to think of either outcome Lana I'm just happy she is gone I picked up on her last comment she said "good radiance to Smallville and Clark Kent" as Jack drove her off to the airport."
"That sounds a little harsh" said Lana.
"I explained it all to her even the events that lead me to deciding she would never be able to replace the hold you have on my heart." "She took it all bad Lana, I just hope she still supports the Justice League."
"Clark sometimes a woman doesn't want the truth she wants what she believes the truth is not what the facts are a persons feeling don't consider the facts most of the time."
"Well I think we let Chloe deal with her cousin from now on and believe that the league is a stronger tie for Chloe that her crazy cousin."
"Now that we talked about that little fact how was your day baby."
Clark smiled at Lana not wanting to spend another breath on Lois Lane. She thought that it was time to ask Chloe for a favor, it was time to bug her cousin to make sure she wasn't going to turn on them or the Justice League.
"Your home a little later than usual, you must have had a real busy night."
"I had a accident victim show up he almost bled out on the way in to the clinic he should have gone to the hospital strange thing was he had one of those omega symbol on his skull just like the crazy guy we had in the ER and the criminal you took down too."
"This means something we should let watchtower run a search for all the meanings and we should have Jor El do the same at the fortress I just have a bad feeling about this it seems to be tied to violence and crime."
"That's a great idea Clark between the two we might see if whoever is behind this has been on earth before or if there isn't a connection to the past."
"Hows the dessert and coffee?"
"Both are great, the cake tastes fresh tell me you made it."
"No Jean made it from Mom's recipe box on the kitchen book shelf she asked and I told her its ok, tell me I didn't do something to upset you Lana."
"Not really but I like making Martha's recipes when I can so now there are three people who know how to make your Moms chocolate cake."
"I can tell her to not use it again she was worried you would be mad at her for using the recipe."
"Ready for bed" as Lana put the plate down beside her on the porch swing as she scatted closer to Clark stealing a kiss?
Clark was lost in the intensity of the kiss he replied "what you said."
Lana laughed as she picked Clark up throwing him over her shoulder much to his surprise "hey hold on one I'm the one who should be dragging you off to bed not the other way around."
"Clark my love shut up and just go with it" said Lana.
Clark wasn't stupid he knew when to give in and this was defiantly time to shut up "yes my love" he smiled.
It had been a long day there were several problems in Metropolis and then a tsunami in Japan, Nocturne saved the day by creating a magical wall the waves crashed against it instead of the coastline. Lana saved millions of people, that's was what was important to them saving people.
Clark decided to stop at the fortress on his way back home he hadn't visited the fortress in a while he didn't like the increase in activity it was strange all of a sudden they were as busy as they were 10 years ago it just didn't make sense.
Clark landed in the central chamber he called out "Jor El I came to see if you might have detected a reason for the increase in criminal activity or the increase in natural disasters."
"Kal El it is good to see you, I have also wondered about the increase in activity." Clark felt something was going on for a while he just felt it Lana had noticed a patient the other day with a omega symbol attached to their skull. He had seen the same thing on a bank robber he caught the other day.
"Jor El what does a omega symbol mean on a beings skull?"
Clark waited Jor El finally spoke "that is a sign of evil Kal El, the planet Apokolips is the home of a being that is as old as time, it isn't as ancient but from a time close to the creation of the universe." "The universe was created by a group of light beings they set in motion your current world billions of years ago."
"These beings had countered parts of darkness they have been fighting on another dimension for the first few billions of years light against dark and dark against light it seemed to be a endless battle." "Suddenly the powers of light gained an ally, his name was Orion he was the son of the Dark God, Darksied he fought his father and won forever banishing the monstrosities of a earlier age to a dimension of darkness and sleep for their kind."
"I in my early life saw first hand what the old ones could do, it was at a kryptonian power station around a red star where I experienced this." …...
Flash Back to the power station and training base
Deep space training platform Zeta, Kryptonian sector 23
The training platform was located in proximity to our observable star charts Betelgeuse a massive red giant star 643 light years distant. The platform commander noted a variation of the stars output and adjusted the energy adsorbers to a lower setting. "Captain Sar Au keep a eye on the output make sure it never goes over 25 percent charge."
Sar Au answered "yes sir."
Commander Beta Du acknowledge the response as he left the control room "I'm going to check on the cadets."
Commander Du walked down the passage way to the training area where thousands of young Kryptonian cadets were fulfilling their obligation to their race. Basic training in all matters military, they had been using this energy adsorption platform for a couple of hundred years as a training ground.
The last war made the high council feel that all citizens need to have basic military training so they could function as soldiers in combat if needed. The advanced technology of the platform included holographic suites which allowed the cadets to experience combat first hand without being in a war zone.
This was Zor and Jor El's first trip off world they were both excited to be able to experience portal travel. The military training was vastly different from the scientific training their father had been pushing on both of the brothers.
Jor El spent his free time studying the star they were orbiting Zor El was spending all his free time hanging out with a mutual friend Dru Zod. They both talked about the great military leader of Krypton's past and what the future might hold for the both of them. Jor El joined in these conversations but mostly stuck to his study of the massive red giant star.
The captain was monitoring the proximity sensors noting space junk passing the platform. Sar noticed something didn't seem right with the readings he was seeing there seemed to be something else in the rubble field.
He called the commander "sir I'm getting unusual readings from the rubble field."
With the recent troubles with a race called Surra, an reptilian race all Kryptonian facilities were on a higher level of alert. There had been a couple of unexpected attack on small scale but still it could be a large scale attack at any point.
"Activate the defensive counter measures and activate the portal send a message to Krypton saying we might be facing an attack." After the last attack destroyed one of Krypton's remaining 3 moons the entire race was ready for a war.
What they didn't expect that this was a ancient race who picked now to return to this space time. A race older than almost anything surviving the beginning of this universe. What they didn't detect was this being was phasing in and out of this reality looking for a point of attack.
Moments later the creature penetrated the platform on the training level its glowing tentacles reached out to touch the trainee cadets as soon as contact was made they stopped moving and died. Thousands of cadets were dead in seconds.
Some screamed at the contact but that's all they did they were dead in a flash. The creature continued deeper into the platform its contact with the systems on the platform resulted in energy drains and explosions as systems overloaded.
All power was gone on the training level it was total pandemonium as cadets ran in every direction only to be met with death, there seemed to be no place safe. Jor, Zor, and Dru looked for something to fight this creature with Jor El noticed the creature recoiled from contact with gold a common metal on Krypton but it had its use in power system and in life pods as a protective shield for electromagnetic radiation.
Jor El got Zor El and Dru Zod's attention "I observed this creature is repelled by gold and contact with gold if we can get to the escape pods we just might live thru this attack.
Zod was incensed "what you want to run?"
"Look someone has to survive this attack, someone with military knowledge and scientific knowledge has to let the high council know about this threat to Krypton we are not running away from anything Zod we need to live to warn others."
Zor El a good friend said "my brother is right Dru we need to let the high council know what a danger this thing presents to our world and others."
Zod seemed to be in deep thought then he said "the escape pods are down this passage way" as he led them to the escape pods.
Jor El saw a tentacle appear thru the floor he grabbed Dru by his uniform and pulled him back. Zod saw his end coming until Jor El saved him, Dru turned to his friends brother and said "thank you for saving me I am in your debt Jor El" a new friendship was formed that day.
A new course of history was created on that day. If Jor El had not saved Zod things might have been very different.
The attack to the platform was over as fast as it had started the creature simply disappeared. The Commander was dead the only command staff left was Captain Sar Au. He and a few of the operations staff survived because of the gold shielding that prevented the tentacles from entering the command center.
The gravity generators were damaged during the attack there were dead bodies floating everywhere several common passages were blocked with layers of the dead. Sar Au first task was to try to restore power to the portal energy generator.
They needed help from Krypton their had never been a attack of this scope ever. Tens of thousands of cadets were dead most of the training staff were also dead. This had to be on the scale of Drax Sur destruction of the two kryptonian moons.
Sar shook his head "get going on restoring power to the portal generators life support can wait for now, we need help."
The remaining staff were tasked with trying to locate any survivors among the dead cadets. Over ten thousand kryptonians died that day it was the single largest loss of life of cadets ever.
Yog-Sothoth was a creature of magic and of a time before the universe. A creature of darkness that existed before the big bang, a creature that fought against the forces of light and it had recently broken free of its long time prison of death sleep.
It had fed for the frist time in eons, as it slipped in-between dimensions back to the dark dimension it thought of the beings it had just fed from they were a high energy source. The power it felt flowing through it body from those beings it consumed felt like nothing it had ever experienced, the power was intoxicating.
Yog-Sothoth was the gate keeper, the one of its kind that would wake and release its brothers from their endless dreams. The creature was magical and multi dimensional, there was little to stop them.
Their worshipers would give them power and they would again reign in this new universe and multiverse. Soon they would emerge from the dark space and resume their places joining the fight against the light.
These monsters would be the bringers of the end. They would return the light to dark and all the creatures of the dark would feel that a change was happening signaling the end of the reign of light and destruction to all of the followers of light.
Yog-Sothoth found a hot place in the darkness and sent out telepathic waves across time and space letting its followers know the time was coming. They would return, the time of dark was returning.
They would return to rid the universe of light, have faith we are coming, we will consume all. It drifted in its thoughts dreaming of glory to come. A wave of energy passed through all space time every magical being felt the change darkness was growing in power again. The forces of light felt the magical change they too contemplated the meaning of this warning and change.
Fast Forward 3009 - The City of Kandor, New Krypton
Lana sits in the throne room on new Krypton she is waiting for a day she has long known would happen. She has even played a role in making it happen. She had to make sure it happened as well because it crossed her timeline a couple of times. This event was a fixed point in time. This end of it was the endpoint the start was way back in the 21st century her first real talk with Saturn Girl.
Reflecting back on all that has happened she still wonders there were so many variables that could have caused problems but it seemed that at each juncture all the pieces fell in place at the last second. The events that had to happen somehow always did.
Lana could pick up the sound of a frightened girl's heartbeat slowly approaching the throne room. She was about two miles away at the moment, she would be here soon enough.
Lana remembered how much she still felt for this girl who had so much to do with the choices Lana made that day and on many days after that day. Including the day she thought she walked away from Clark forever fortunately that got reversed.
The kryptonite poisoning was removed from her body all these years she has waited to meet this young lady again and tell her how much what she said to a sacred Lana in the Kent barn all those years ago impacted her and the ways it helped her become the person she needed to be and a savior of a couple of worlds.
It took Lana centuries to understand what that day was to her and Clark. How it changed her to become the woman to stand at Clarks side. Lana though it was the events that led her to steal the suit from Lex and become a equal to Clark, his consort, his wife, his equal in life.
Lana recalled her time as a simple country girl she could have never had imagined this future. Her time as the doctor and all the people she saved and impacted. She recalled a little girl who became a well respected doctor following in Dr. Angel's foot steps.
Today seemed to be all about reflection and some of the things she has been allowed to do with her life. She hoped that her guest would be the one to carry on the positive message to all females, human and not across the galaxy inspiring them to reach overcoming the obstacles in their ways growing to be what they were meant to be, not what they were told they needed to be.
This was going to be an emotional meeting she hoped Clark would be done by the time she and her guest were done, They both would issue a royal decree giving a special human power for the first time in the halls of Kryptonian power giving a voice to all females, allowing them to all grow becoming what they wanted to be and needed to become.
Lana smiled her guest was slowly walking she took a peek through her eyes she was standing in front of the hall of hero's, Lana wondered if she would recognize them from the statues as she passed through on her way to the throne room. Half of Clarks family were enshrine in that hall from his great great great grandfather to Jor El, Lara and Lana, Clark on the other side of his parents.
Lana wondered which of her children would be the next in line once she and Clark decided to retire like they did 300 years ago when Kandor was freed from the trap that brainiac created for the last kryptonian city.
Earth and New Krypton had become a stop for every advanced society in the galaxy and extra galactic visitors. The collection of knowledge was the founding principal for new krypton know all there is to know became a commonly said phrase on both planets.
Earth was eons behind technology wise they had become very cautious. When it took New Krypton to save them from a few greedy humans who only saw power. Lana told Clark at the time "we can't let our home become a black hole in space were both from earth we have to save the earth." This was one of Clarks early decrees 300 Kryptonian royal guards descended on the New Yankee power generator which was in fact a huge bomb that would destroy the entire solar system it would kill everything within 400 light years of earth the Gamma radiation would destroy everything stars, planets, nebula's, ectera.
The royal science council discovered what the device was after a extensive search two other races used this kind of weapon both now long dead. Superman explained to the people of earth what someone had tried to do to their part of space, now all off world technology was carefully reviewed before it was placed into operation.
Earth knew of a trojan horse and recognized it as a attempt at destroying both Earth and New Krypton. The aliens who sold the technology to a earth company were found and tried in the royal court. They were sentenced to life in the phantom zone without the benefit of their bodies they were reduced to wraiths.
One of the aliens finally talked it seems Zod still had followers out there in the universe, something Clark swore to stamp out completely. Lana and Clark passed sentence and the Thosians were soul stripped then banished to the zone forever.
The only thing Clark radically changed was that anyone whom received a phantom zone sentence was forever. There was no way back from the zone ever. The phantom zone technology was the closest guarded secret in all of new krypton. The records on the phantom zone said two things and only two things, it existed and it was forever.
Nothing else was ever said about the technology or the science behind it. All of the literature was carefully edited to only state those two facts the science was not available to anyone other than the royal council and it's science advisers. That was as safe as they could make it and both Lana and Clark hoped that they would never see any of the villains sentenced there escape.
One of the reasons for constantly sending out ambassadors to other cultures was to determine how close they might be to discovering the phantom zone so far it was still undiscovered Lana intended to make sure as long as she lived it would remain like it is today undiscovered.
Clark was always sending missions to other worlds seeking knowledge always looking for dimensional technologies and use of those same technologies. Clark and Lana decided once Kandor was free to create a shield encompassing the dimensional space that was the phantom zone effectively blocking the phantom zone from normal space forever it took the power of three blue phase stars to accomplish this task but once done the energy barrier made the zone a one way trip.
That was Lana and Clarks first night of peaceful sleep in centuries. They could finally close the book on Zod and his followers at least until they revealed themselves again. Not that they weren't sending teams out actively hunting for Zod followers.
That was a while ago now Lana had a soon to be shocked Saturn Girl to visit with and let her know of her role she was to play in the next day. She was to be given her legion ring and a mission to help Clark as well as give a young human girl the faith to go on knowing she would be remembered for more than being Clark Kents girlfriend.
Saturn Girl was announced by the royal page Lana told her to rise and approach the throne. Saturn Girl was shocked before her was the queen of New Krypton who looked exactly like her hero and personal favorite Lana Lang a human girl who according to records became posionious to Kal El due to Kryptonite.
She spoke "Your highness you look like a hero of mine from childhood has anyone ever told you you look like a human from the 21st century the love of a young Kal El, Lana Lang." Lana couldn't hold it in any more she started laughing Saturn Girl was at a loss.
"My dear come with me we must talk." Lana led a shocked and wondering Saturn Girl behind the throne room to a small room that looked out on the skyline of Kandor. "Irma Ardeen I have asked you here today to give you your long deserved legion ring with this ring you will be able to travel through time, I have a mission for you besides the mission the legion will be given."
"First I have a truth you must know that only I can give you, I'm Lana Lang or at least I used to be a young confused earth girl." "I have been Lana Kent for centuries then became L. Elisabeth Kent the artist for a while, once we released Kandor and Argo city from their traps we were drafted into being the King and Queen of Krypton."
"Our sons and daughters have filled the roles of Superman and Nocturne from that time forward. Saturn Girl saw the truth of Lana's words in her mind, Irma passed out her childhood hero stood before her Lana Lang it was too much.
Lana caught Saturn Girl long before she hit the floor. Lana eased her into a couch and summoned a house aid to retrieve her old doctor bag. Lana used her abilities to check out the young lady, she seemed to be in good health she dismissed the house aid and put on her stethoscope it had been over 600 years since she had used it.

"Clark and I had retired by that point and the council of Kandor wouldn't accept any other answer than yes from Jor El's son." "We became the King and Queen shortly after and have had the kids filling our Superman and Nocturne roles from the mid 24th century."
"Who is posing as Kal El and who is Nocturne?" "My son Clark Jonathan is the current Superman and Martha Clark is Nocturne, both took the roles over from their older brothers and sisters."
Irma showed a look of utter surprise on her face. "I looked for Smallville the other day, the info systems say it was abandoned right after the Gamma flare today its open space outside metropolis in fact it seems Lowell county is abandoned as well."
"Well that's a story I'll tell you once you return from the past." "We should really talk about your mission Clark will be happy to see you he should be here soon we should retire to the royal apartment to meet him."
"I still cant believe your here talking to me a figure from history that I looked up to so much I just wanted to be like you so much growing up." Lana and Irma returned to the apartment to wait for Clark.
Later that evening
Irma gave Lana a warm hug and said good bye she did the same with Clark shaking her head she was still having a hard time believing that the person she called Kal El was really one of Clark and Lana's sons. She also asked for permission to visit the hidden Lowell county and Smallville both were easily granted to a person who would have a huge impact on the past but only after the mission was completed.
If the legion failed the royal guards all had time displacement rings, they monitored the earth time line closely they would see if the mission was a failure and would dispatch royal guards to correct the problem before the time distortions reached the future.
Lana smuggled up to Clark as he closed their door to the royal apartments. "Clark what do you think is going to happen in the morning?"
"Call me optimistic but I hope that they arrive just like they did before and saved the day again."
"Well I hope that's the outcome too husband."
"Baby if something goes wrong the royal guards will detect the variance in the timeline and they will dispatch a dozen guards to correct the issue."
"What has you worrying about the royal time corps actions?"
"They have only corrected the time line once so far we all agree this is a fixed event in time and it has to happen."
"Our future wouldn't happen without those events you have studied the calculation and the time line?"
"I know all of that Clark I guess I'm just a little apprehensive about meeting Irma for the first time again what if I don't believer her of what if I think she's lying to me?"
"Lana you have always been able to tell when people were lying to you."
"You were even able to tell before you became kryptonian remember that was one of the reasons you and I had a hard time in our early years together and before we got together you could always tell when I lied to you."
"I guess I'm just worried and will be until she returns with a completed mission."

Clark picked up his wife and spun her around heading for the bed chamber of the royal apartment "I can think of several things" as he kissed her.

The three days later Irma was again in the royal chambers again "Your majesties the plan went as you told me it would I was able to place the thoughts you wanted in the proper places and we retrieved a early version of a automation who called himself brainiac as we speak it is held in this magnetic bubble it has been trying to escape since its capture."
Lana stood "you have done well Saturn Girl you do earth proud." Irma bowed to both of the royals and handed over the brainiac 4 to a royal page to have it transferred to cold storage.
Lana sat as Clark started to stand to read his next royal decree. "Irma Ardeen through your bravery and compassion we the royal king and queen declare that the Justice Legion shall be granted to job of policing timelines to ensure there is never a misuse of time travel technology we have already placed in your hands rings that allow you to travel the time currents."
"We also decree that your team will monitor the time lines for all time ensuring that the past and future remain undisturbed and will forever be charged with enforcement of this royal decree."
Irma bowed again and was shown out of the throne room and taken down a hall she had never seen before until she recognized the door to the royal apartments. She was directed to a chair and told to wait. Shortly both Clark and Lana came down the hall without the royal garb of their offices.
"Sorry Irma that took so long, we had another issue to deal with" said Clark as he opened the door leading into the apartment.
Once seated on the couch they got comfortable "so how was I" asked Lana.
"A bright young girl in love with the most powerful being in the world."

"Ok, all wise, all knowing, OZ" fired back Lana.
"Hey" said Clark with a hurt look on his face.
"This time the Persuader, part of the human supremacist movement stole the ring and the crystal was destroyed we arrived a moment after the destroyer so we took him down as he was swinging at your stomach you were barely cut this time so otherwise it was exactly what your highness told me to expect."
"My own experience knowing the future scares me that you can know future events and you could change the past."
"So far we have been lucky now with two separate sets of eyes on the timelines hopefully no more attempts at changing the past will happen" said Clark.
"I've experienced two timelines and I still wish the first one came to pass but I'm not complaining about the second one now" said Lana.
"You traveled in time before Lana" said a surprised Irma,
"Not really but I have memories of both time lines thanks to Clarks father Jor El."
"When he made me Kryptonian he gave me the memories of the first time line that Clark change so I would live."
"If we talked with Jor El that day I bet he would have offered me the change to be like Clark and become fully Kryptonian."
"Well we will never know now I thought you were happy with things the way they stand now Lana."
"I am Clark there is always a what if out there you cant wonder what might have happened my love."
"I wasn't about to watch you die a second time it was a painful road to travel but we made it through the worse pain either of us had ever felt."
Happy Birthday
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you, dear Lara happy birthday to you." Sang everyone present the precocious little 6 year old was having a great time on her birthday. She discovered her parents secret two years ago late one night while they were leaving on a mission. Lara was the quiet one she told mom and Dad about her seeing them in their costumes and how cool it was that they were super hero's. Clark just about had a heart attack over the revelation Lana had a milder reaction to little Lara's announcement. Lana explained that she couldn't tell her friends or anyone because evil people would want to take her and her brothers and sister apart from their family. The Kent household was full of 5 6 year old's looking forward to ice cream and birthday cake, the biggest kid of all was sitting right next to her grand daughter enjoying all the fun around her. Martha smiled she couldn't imagine Clark and Lana ever doing a birthday party this big she was glad that they never tried something like this for Clark when he was younger. Martha looked at Lara her eyes were wide open as the cake was delivered and she was given the knife to cut the first piece of cake. Lara took the knife with mom helping her and made the cut she was proud of her cut she asked Lana "Mom can I cut the rest of the cake for my guests?"

After Lara cut another seven pieces of cake she turned and looked at Lana "Mom I've got this."

Clark returned to the grill he still had wings, hot dogs, and hamburgers cooking, he brought another plate full of food to the table for those still hungry. Clark looked around he always wondered what a party like this would be like, well now he knew, it's a lot of work. There had been a lot of debate about having this party for Lara if it worked out ok the Kent family would be living as active members of the community not as recluses who lived in town but were rarely seen. Clark was glad his kids would be able to grow up with a normal childhood. Clark looked over to the side board it was covered with colorful boxes and gift bags he could hardly believe his eyes boy, maybe he did miss out as a kid.
Lana was back in the kitchen she was wondering how they were doing with the town gossips she applied a little super hearing to do a little selective ease dropping the first pair she listened to couldn't stop talking about how much the Kents were like them, they expected a more upscale inside of the house. The last guest finally left Martha volunteered to put the kids to bed tonight besides Lara wouldn't go anywhere that day without her favorite person grandma. Lana smiled she was tired like she hadn't been in a very long time back to her human days. Lara took a deep breath "well you and dad worked hard at my party I just wanted to say thank you for allowing me to have a party in the first place I hope my brother and sisters can have as much fun as I had." Lana was floored, Martha smiled that was certainly her grand daughter talking.
Lana hugged her again "thank you honey" she said "I'm just going to get something for dad and to hold us over for a while" as she gathered and prepared some fruit and bagels for the two of them. She smiled at the duo and said "thank you both if you need us were right up stairs" as she walked back up the stairs carrying a tray with the food she prepared. Lara and Martha shared a smile between them Martha bumped Lara as a way of saying you did good they both shared a smile and a smirk and got back to the job of making the family breakfast.
Three hours later Lana and Clark came down the stairs Lana expected to find a disaster in the kitchen and the table both were spotless. She turned to Clark "ok where are they" she asked? "I don't hear them" Clark applied a little super hearing to hear laughter coming from moms farm specifically the loft.
"Sounds like there at moms in the loft." "Well want to go over and get them for lunch or ..." she just let the question hang?
"Well, Mom took them to her house so maybe we should call to see what the plan is instead of just showing up and throwing a wrench in their plans."
"So call already," Clark took out his cell phone and called the Kent farm. Clark got the surprise of his life when who answered the Kent phone but Chloe "hello Kent farm" she said.
"Chloe" said a surprised Clark "what ever are you doing at mom's?"
"Well it is a long drive back to Sherwood so we asked your mom if we could stay the night to be awoken by your brood this morning our kids are out in the loft with yours they are having a great time playing." "Clark just let me talk to Lana," Clark handed over the phone and took a seat at the breakfast bar next to Lana as the two women talked about god know what for the next half hour.
Lana bumped Clarks elbow "were going to have lunch with them at the farm then they will come back here for a while and we'll see what happens from there."
Clark smiled with his lopsided grin "OK." Lana and Clark spent the rest of the day with Chloe and Oliver and their kids, they had a blast just being themselves enjoying their friends and family. The upswing of the entire weekend was Lana and Clark decided to live in the light with their friends and family they were so worried about being exposed but their kids made it possible to go to the same schools as their parents. Martha had been sweating it out that they wouldn't join their neighbors and remain apart of humanity around them.

A dark planet in another dimension
Clark awoke he found himself floating in what appeared to be a volcanic ash cloud. Below them the lower clouds started to turn red as something was happening a blast of gas ripped through the cloud giving a clear picture of what was below them a huge caldera at least 200 miles across and fire yellow was below them it looked like a scene out of Dantes Inferno, visions of hell were below them.
Lana clutched a little harder onto Clark, a shape started to form in the ash cloud in moments a pair of red eyes were following their every move. Soon enough a face took shape "aahh Kal El the last of your kind, the last son of krypton." "Welcome to my domain your earth will soon look like my world Kal El and nothing you can do will stop me Kryptonian."
Clark took on the mantle of Kal El "you will never do this to earth, earth is mine you will stay away from it if you know whats good for you."
"Typical Kryptonian you will see and learn soon enough, I will enjoy your pain." "I will grind you beneath my boots, you will be the final sole I collect from earth, Lord Darksid awaits your destruction and conversion, kryptonian."
Lana heard enough she cast a spell to freeze everything she started with the giant face talking to them. The minion of Darksid felt the spell start and he was a block of ice the face fell from the skies the volcano became frozen rock in seconds the ice spread everywhere Clark started to take Lana higher and they both awoke in their bedroom still in bed. The only difference was that Lana was in Clarks arms and the smell of brimstone filled their room.
Clarks Cave of Wonders 2041
Clark and Lana had been working on the multi dimensional portal for years it was their secret project they had kept it from everyone. Their first trials were over and it looked like it worked as the equations had predicted, Jor El was very happy with the results. Lana reminded Jor El a lot of his Louise back in the day. Back then he was about to turn his back on Krypton and take Louise to a place he found in California. Louise would get the chance to be in the movies and he could work on research at the new University of California or Cal Poly outside LA but a Luthor crossed their path and changed everything.
The loss of his Louise almost destroyed Jor El, his emotions crippled him, with the help of Hiram Kent Jor El made it safely back to the caves and Krypton. So his father wouldn't know what happened Jor El downloaded his time in Smallville removing the experience and the emotions it raised. Once back on Krypton he devoted his life to science until he met the stunning Lara Van Voor his heart beat faster he felt the same emotions again. The memory download removed his feeling for Louise until Clark uploaded the memory device to Jor El. That event was the start of a warmer Jor El.
They had worked for the last year on Jor El's inter dimensional transport gate way. There had been many trials and a lot of errors. They even blew up their deep subterranean lab a couple of times, but tonight they got it right in front of them on the outer side of the gate way was another earth, a different earth. Maybe this earth had no Kal El or maybe it had Superman, they would never know unless they explored what lie on the other side of the gate way. Lana was completely against them going through the gate way. What happened if they couldn't get back, what about their family, friends, their world? The risk was to great in Lana's mind so they did the next best thing they sent a kryptonian robot to probe the other side. They discovered a world beyond imagination. A world where almost everyone had some kind of powers. In some worlds Clark and Lana were not a couple, in one world he was married to Chloe in another he was married to Lois Lane of all people. The superman of Lois's world as they called it was a poor shadow of Superman.
Then they discovered the dark worlds, they stumbled upon a world where Lex either imprisoned Clark or just outright killed him. Lex had a vast army of 33.1 victims to fuel his ranks, he was the emperor of this world, all hail Lex. Lana just wanted to throw up once they understood how depraved Lex's world was. Then a week later they found a world where Kal El and his empress Isobel ruled over the huddled masses. Isobel apparently won the fight in the caves but saw a use for Kal El once she discovered the red meteor rocks effect on Clark. Isobel's magic ruled the day. There was a war going on Isobel and Kal El had defeated everyone but the South Americans. Europe was a dark place to live, witch craft was practiced openly and the darker the better. Lana looked over the data from the robotic probe her face frozen in horror at what Isobel was capable of doing. Clark was angry at what he saw himself doing in that dimension he couldn't understand why he was so dark. Lana discovered the answer when a picture of a bare chested Kal El in leather pants appeared on her terminal. Around Kal El's chest was a breast plate with glowing red stones. This was the evidence that they were looking for. Clark was pissed he wanted to do something to undo Isobels hold on him and that earth. Jor El advised against getting involved with another dimensions issues.
Clark and Lana hit several dimensions as soon as the portal started to open, it was forced shut. Once it was shut it couldn't be reopened. That one puzzled them. A few dimension down form the dozen or so closed off worlds they started to find something else. They hit several dead earths, animal and plant life gone. It looked like some kind of war was fought on these planets but the ultimate loss was the planet itself. What could have caused such devastation and death on such a grand scale?
They found some answers in the western cities of these planets, it seems something just appeared one day destroying all in its path. They reported that shimmering windows opening in the sky and an army from hell emptied out onto the ground. The military of these worlds put up a brave but short fight it was days and the entire planet was dead. This scared Clark and Lana what had happened to these worlds? It seemed that the war happened a little while ago but it was hard to tell if it was years ago or days ago there was no one left to talk too. All the electronics seemed to be dead as well, the only history left was the news stories and finding a library that wasn't destroyed was in itself a good trick.
These worlds scared Lana and Clark, the utter devastation happened so fast and was so complete neither Lana nor Clark thought with their gifts they could stop a attack like the ones that destroyed these worlds. On the last dead world they visited they found a headline and a story by Lana Kent, it told how the creatures appeared and overran everything. There were pictures on the front page showing these hideous monsters attacking humans. There was a story about the death of their Superman at the hands of what must be the leader of these monsters. Lana cried for that worlds Lana Kent and her loss. One story in the same paper talked about human defenders turning on each other after the attacks started. That story made Lana and Clark both sit up and take note. As the robot was withdrawing it scanned a human skull on the ground but it had a green ohm symbol engraved in its skull. Clark and Lana gasped in horror, their world might be next.
Justice League meeting a day later
"I call this special emergency meeting of the Justice League to order" said Superman. Around the table sat all the superheros of earth. Clark smiled at Lana "the first order of business is to update you on the green ohm symbols we have all seen". "It seems that these are related to events in other dimensions". "What we have to talk about this day doesn't leave this room ever". "Nocturne and I created a inter-dimensional portal to other earths of the many we visited we found worlds not unlike our own and may that have deeply descended into darkness". "We even found a world where Lex Luthor became emperor or the world".
Lana took over at this point, "we continued sending out probes until we found dead worlds not one or two but hundreds, it seems they were killed by the same thing an alien presence that just shows up using inter-dimensional transport". "Then they deposits huge armies of monsters to destroy the humans of these dimensions". "The common thread is the green ohm symbol we have found on their skulls on every destroyed planet we found millions of the engraved skulls". "It seems that the human population turned on itself at some point after the attack starts". "We believe that our dimension is on the to be attacked list but we are unable to tell how far we are on the time line to destruction that is why we called the meeting".
Clark now took over as he stood. "I know this inter-dimensional stuff is new to all of you its the last science project my father Jor El was working on before the destruction of Krypton". "We undertook his work to finish the project for our own uses and eventual use by the Justice League and the human race". "Hopefully to allow the human race to reach out to the stars without taking eons to reach another viable planet".
There was stunned silence around the table finally Bruce spoke up "how long have you been working on this project he asked"?
Clark answered "a little over ten years we have observed hundreds of earths, the dead earths are more than disturbing".
Bruce nodded his head "ok I see how this will affect us all, so I suggest that we all go to see the data as Superman and Nocturne suggested".
Green Lantern spoke next "yea I agree we need to get a handle on this as soon as possible".
Flash stood "while I am a little upset about the secret research, this is something that could kill us all so lets go and see what they have" he said.
Nocturne call a spacial displacement spell and soon all 247 members of the league found themselves in a cavern overlooking a round object and several data terminals. Clark sat down at a terminal and started the presentation showing them all the earths they found and then the dead earths. Lana took over telling them about the extent of the death and destruction of planet earth and the similarities of the dead planets. She finished up talking about the actual data they had of the monsters, their arrival, and destruction. She walked them through the attacks, how fast it happened, when it happened, and the disturbing fact that the defenders turned on each other at some point during the attacks. The defenders turning on each other was the most chilling fact. The league members didn't even ask about the other projects they could see going around them. The only interest was this attack on earth and what they could do to stop it from happening.
