After formal introductions and tucked away in one of the undamaged huts, Yuna and the others gathered cool drinks for the group to drink while emergency cooling took place on both Shige and Yasuto.
"Is that a blizzard spell?" Sora asked as he watched Yuna's hands glow an icy blue color. A gentle cool breeze permeated through the hut but mostly centered on the two men who were nearly unconscious from the heat.
"Yep. Do you know magic too?" Yuna asked as she smiled.
"A little bit. I'm still learning" Sora replied with a cheeky grin.
"I'll have you know that Yunie here is a pro at magic, she IS a High Summoner," Rikku added.
"You must be really good at magic then," Sora commented.
"Well, I wouldn't go that far, I mean Rikku and Paine also know magic. Rikku is an alchemist," Yuna added as she looked at her friends.
"You are absolutely right," Rikku smirked.
Mitsu sat quietly as she watched Yuna use her magic on Shige and Yasuto, there was something about her that felt familiar to her but as she watched the woman she couldn't place a finger on the feeling.
"She's so pretty…" Mitsu thought to herself as she looked at Yuna. As she sat quietly, she felt another pair of eyes on her and saw Yue's icy blue eyes on her. Their eyes met for a moment before Yue looked away.
"Rikku can you get me some wet towels?" Yuna asked as the blue glow around her hands ceased. Rikku bounced a bit before she went over to what seemed to be a linen box. She pulled out two small towels and threw it into a bucket.
"One water sphere coming up," Rikku smiled as she pulled out a light blue swirling orb and threw it into the bucket, the sound of water splashing was heard through the room.
"Woah! What's that?" Sora asked, his eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"It's a water sphere, it has a weak spell trapped inside of it to use against enemies," Paine replied.
"A weak spell? Then why use it?" Sora asked curiously.
"Not all of them are weak. Why don't you test it out yourself?" Paine replied and dug into her small pouch. She took out a neon blue swirling orb and handed to Sora.
"Think of it as payment for getting us out of that bind," Paine added.
"Woaaaah…thanks," Sora replied as he began to study the orb before he pocketed it. Rikku rung out the towels leaving them somewhat moist and gave them to Yuna. Yuna smiled as she began to fold them and place the towels on to Shige and Yasuto's forehead.
"So you guys are from the world called Destiny Island?" Rikku asked as she daintily squatted.
"Yes, it's similar to Besaid Island," Sora replied. Rikku nodded and turned to look at Yue leaning by the doorway.
"Where are you from?"
"A place called Twilight Town..." Yue hesitantly replied.
"Twilight Town?" Rikku repeated.
"Can we visit your world Yue?" Sora asked excitedly. Yue rolled his eyes and looked at Mitsu who was looking at him expectantly.
"…You two have bigger things to worry about than where I'm from, I haven't been there in years," Yue replied.
"I wonder what it's like...it sounds interesting...Twilight Town," Mitsu trailed off and repeated the name as if it were familiar to her. Yue narrowed his eyes at the girl slightly and held his tongue.
"When those two wake up we should definitely tell them to-"Sora began when suddenly the earth underneath their feet began to tremble.
"What—" Yuna started as she stood and braced herself as the earth began to tremble violently.
"An earthquake?!" Rikku yelped.
"Lady Yuna!"
The villagers that had returned and remained from the earlier attack from the heartless shouted and called out to Yuna. Without a word, Yuna immediately stood up and went to the villager's aid.
"Wait! Don't go out there-!" Yue began as he stumbled after her. Mitsu, Paine, Rikku, and Sora followed after and caught a glimpse of Yuna knocked unconscious and carried off.
"Yuna!" Paine and Rikku yelled as the figure darted into the deep brush of the jungle. Yue placed an arm in front of Mitsu in an attempt to stop the girl from dashing off into danger but to his dismay, Mitsu darted underneath his arm and after the figure and Yuna.
"Mitsu!" Yue shouted after the girl
"Mits—" Sora started but was cut off by a loud roar.
"Not again!" Rikku whined.
"Let's take care of it for the last and FINAL time," Paine said emphasizing the last word.
"But Mitsu—" Sora started again.
"She'll be fine," Yue said as his red lance appeared his hand. "We can't leave them to fight by themselves,"
"But Yunie," Rikku started.
"Focus Rikku! Mitsu will handle it," Paine shouted at the woman as her weapon appeared in her hand.
Sora and the others prepared to fight the new heartless that seemed to materialize from the shadows of the pristine white building in the middle of the village. With his clenched jaw, Sora stole a quick glance at where Mitsu had disappeared into the dark foliage before he turned his attention back to the heartless.
Though she remembered all of the times she had ran through the thick foliage back on Destiny Island she struggled to follow the unknown figure through the thick brush of the jungle. She was fast but they were faster, she chased the figure to a small clearing in the jungle immediately she scanned the area.
"Show yourself!" Mitsu shouted.
"I'm surprised someone like you was able to keep up with me,"
Mitsu spun around in the direction of the voice, and behind her in the trees. A blond-haired, tanned skinned man dressed in what looked to be leather black and yellow shorts with a matching vest had jumped down from the trees and a few feet away from Mitsu.
Immediately, Mitsu's eyes when to the unconscious Yuna the man had slid off his shoulder and gently placed her against one of the large tree trunks.
"Give her back," Mitsu stated firmly.
"Oh? A demand without names," the man began. "I have no intention of giving her back to you,"
Mitsu held out her hand and instantly a white, fragile keyblade appeared in it she pointed the man. The man crossed his arms and looked smugly at Mitsu.
"Ah, you're a keyblade wielder. That makes his search easier now," the man began.
"What do you mean?" Mitsu asked.
"Stay here long enough and you'll see, he should be arriving shortly," the man replied.
"Who are you and what do you want with Yuna?" Mitsu asked.
"Ah now you ask names, the name is Shuyin, and what I want with the Princess of Heart does not concern you or your friends," Shuyin replied and took a quick glance behind him.
"Oh, she's still here…I thought he would have taken her by now," Shuyin replied as he glanced behind him to see Yuna unconscious against a tree.
"Who is 'he'?" Mitsu asked.
A small gasp came from Mitsu as she barely blocked the sudden attack from Shuyin, it was as if her body moved on its own to shield her from the man's attack. Shuyin grinned as he looked down at Mitsu and exerted more of his strength on to her, she struggled against his strength and nearly fell to one knee but managed to use what strength she had to push the man back before she collapsed to one knee.
"I knew about your friends…but the Key blades are new," Shuyin stated as he swung his blue squared tip sword for show.
"My Friends?" Mitsu asked panted confused.
"C'mon don't tell me you forgot about them already. You know...Kairi…and Riku,"
The names of her friends sparked a fire within her, renewed her strength as she lunged at the man now with the second keyblade in hand. Just like her moments ago, he barely managed to parry the lunge and the vicious follow-up attack.
"I'm impressed...you're fighting as if you were a natural at this key blade business," Shuyin quipped but was clearly impressed by the show of speed and power.
"How do you know about them?" Mitsu hissed.
"I've seen both of them and Riku is actually here," Shuyin replied as he slid into an offensive stance.
"W-what?" Mitsu asked caught off guard.
As if on cue a sickly green and black portal opened behind him, Shuyin smirked and motioned to the dark and sickly portal behind him.
"Why don't you go explore yourself? Didn't you both come here through the darkness?" Shuyin asked his hardened gaze focused on her and waited for his chance to deal one swift blow to the girl. "Your Riku is in there,"
"Mitsu…"
"R-Riku?" Mitsu stuttered as she heard the teen's voice call out to her. His voice almost sickly sweet as he called out to her, the sweet vibrato of the teen's voice wormed its way into her mind and nearly sent her into a haze. Eyes glazed over, Mitsu stumbled over her own footing and dropped her white fragile keyblade as she began forward to the portal.
Shuyin smirked as the girl willingly came closer to his range to strike and how the white-haired teen had such an effect on her. With her guard lowered, Shuyin raised his sword above his head ready to strike at his now distracted enemy.
"Riku…" Mitsu murmured in her trance-like state to the portal. At that moment, Mitsu's odd-shaped necklace began to and halted her trance approach to the inky portal.
"It's OVER-!" Shuyin shouted and brought down his sword, Mitsu brought up her keyblade to deflect the blow. The same keyblade she had dropped just a moment ago was back in her hand and used it to swing at the man. The force of the blow caused Shuyin to stumble back a bit and gave Mitsu an opening to unleash her own attack.
Quickly she took that chance to lunge forward and to strike with both of her keyblades. His own speed matched that of Mitsu and allowed him to shield himself from her attack. Mitsu's new speed and strength caught Shuyin off guard, he tried to push her back, but she effortlessly dodged his attack and spun behind him and dealt a swift blow to his back. Shuyin stumbled forward but quickly regained his guard as he dashed at her, Mitsu rushed at him, their blades collided.
"You cannot defeat me…I'll make sure you feel 1000 years of all of my hatred of this world," Shuyin hissed at Mitsu.
"I'm ready for it!" Mitsu smirked.
Let your instinct guide be your guide.
The sudden burst of energy that Shuyin exuded caused Mitsu to be blown back a bit. With her key blades in her hands and instinctively Mitsu spun her key blades around and slid into a fighting stance she didn't know she knew.
"My instincts are my guide..." Mitsu said as she exhaled deeply as she looked to Shuyin, a yellow aura surrounded the man. The aura reminded her of the golden eyes that she had seen on Destiny Island, the smaller heartless she and Sora had fought many times before.
Shuyin was a heartless.
"1000 years of sorrow," Shuyin growled as he lunged at her, Mitsu readied herself for his attack she knew that she wouldn't normally be able to handle someone like Shuyin but there was something inside of her that held strong, that convinced her that she could stand up to the man and so she stood her ground.
The man unleashed a series of flawless acrobatic combos, the final attack knocked a keyblade from the girl's hand and nearly onto one knee.
"Enough!" Mitsu shouted and tackled the man to the ground, stunned only momentarily Shuying kicked the girl off of him and sluggishly got to his feet when suddenly a sharp pain in his back froze him where he stood.
"W-What?" Shuyin dropped his sword and touched the wounds on his abdomen, one light, and one dark slash. Mitsu had thrown one keyblade and recalled the other and avoided him directly. It was a trick they could use if they were disarmed in combat, they had learned that trick back in Traverse Town.
Shuyin crumbled to the ground, as black whispy particles began to rise from him. Silently Shuyin looked to his hands and began to laugh.
"Is this what they meant? Is this really the extent of their power?" Shuyin chuckled. Mitsu picked herself from the jungle floor and stumbled over to Shuyin.
"You…are too late…the Princess…of Heart is gone…" Shuyin mumbled as he collapsed into blackness.
Mitsu watched stoically as the man seemed to have disappeared along with her keyblades, the soft glow of her necklace gone.
"Princesses of Heart...What does he mean? Did he mean Yuna?" Mitsu started and suddenly looked around for the woman to find her gone. As she took a step forward, her vision began to blur and soon darkness followed.
"I can't say that to her…she's…"
"You should tell her…"
"I can't…I mean, what if she doesn't?"
"I may be a keyblade master…but I still…care…Ter—"
Again voices echoed through her mind as she seemed to be carried along a river of darkness. They spoke about a girl, a woman. A female voice murmured as in a response to the voices seconds ago.
Mitsu!
"She's finally waking up," Yue said as he watched the girl stir from her slumber and her eyes fluttered open.
"What happened?" she asked as she slowly sat up.
"You were unconscious when we found you," Yue began.
"Are you ok? What happened?" Sora asked worriedly. Mitsu looked to her friend and sighed softly, she knew that he was worried about her and she only admitted to herself that she was worried as well. Ever since she had entered the darkness with Riku, the voices, dreams and her faint spells had been on the rise.
She didn't know what was happening to her or why.
"I...I met a man named Shuyin and..." Mitsu trailed off.
"and you?" Yue asked.
"He had Yuna and I couldn't get her back," Mitsu turned to the other woman in the room. "I'm sorry. I couldn't get her back. I-,"
"The fact that you are safe is good enough for me," Paine replied firmly.
"I'm so sorry," Mitsu buried her face in her hands from guilt and shame of Yuna being taken in front of her.
"It's ok Mitsu," Sora knelt next to her and held her hand in an attempt to console her. Out of the years that he had known the girl, she had never seen her so regretful.
"As Paine said, we're glad that you're alright," Yue added as he looked down at the girl, tears had sprung to the corner of her eyes.
"Thank you," Mitsu nodded as she wiped the tears that threatened to spill.
"It's ok Mitsu," Sora smiled.
As the two teens spoke, Yue studied Mitsu, there was still something about her that made him suspicious that she held something back from them all.
"Where are the others?" Mitsu asked as she looked around the hut.
"Yuna and Rikku are gone. The other two are recovering," Paine replied.
"Wait Rikku is gone too?" Mitsu exclaimed. Paine nodded.
"As you ran off there was another wave of Heartless that came pouring out of the temple over there," Sora began to explain. "I think she was carried off by heartless," Sora sighed.
"Is Rikku a Princess of Heart too?" Mitsu asked as she looked to both Paine and Yue. The two looked at the girl surprised at her sudden question.
"That's what he said about Yuna..," Mitsu said as she stood from the cot. Yue and Paine looked at Mitsu in surprise after hearing her statement. Both Mitsu and Sora looked at the two in confusion.
"What's a Princess of Heart?" Sora asked.
"I guess we were a little bit too brazen with them," Paine said to herself and placed a hand on her hip. Mitsu looked at the white haired woman then to Yue in hopes that he had the answer that Sora and herself searched for.
"I assume you want me to explain…" Yue trailed off. Mitsu and Sora nodded eagerly, the man sighed softly and leaned back in his chair.
"I feel like I'm doing their job…l" Yue grumbled before he began. "A Princess of Heart are maidens with hearts pure of light and void of the darkness,"
"If that is the case then Rikku isn't a Princess of Heart…" Paine commented from behind Yue.
"If that is the case then they will be in for a rude awakening," Yue commented bitterly.
"Who are they?" Sora asked.
"Whoever is trying to open the door to the darkness,"
