Interlude 3

Lena Copper (19) Winner of the 148th hunger games. (District 3 Mentor) (Warning for suicide)

I look at this year's tributes and look at my mentor partner Cyber and immediately feel pitiful for him. He has to mentor one of the worst and arrogant people in the whole of district 3, Huxley Copper my brother.

Huxley knows a lot about the games from me but hasn't held a weapon or even lived without food as we are from a wealthy family and me winning the games only increased our wealth, so he has no chance of winning the hunger games. However, maybe Huxley dying will give me enough courage to kick my family out of the justice building.

Dayta on the other hand has a good chance of survival and is trained so she could win the games. I have seen her train and the way she uses spears and technology to kill things is extraordinary. However, she was forced to train and forced to volunteer by her mother could that make her less likely to kill in the arena and easier to kill... we will see.

However, when I look at Dayta I immediately force back to my games when I was in her shoes, going to the arena to kill innocent children.

The arena my year was a mine shaft. Also, the tributes during my year was basic career tributes from 1, 2 and 4 but they were joined by the boys from 7 and 10 as those two were the other strongest join that year. Along with some basic normal tributes from 6, 8, 11 and 12.

During training I mainly worked on what weapon was my strongest, throwing knifes and archery, I also worked on survival aspects like berries, how to make a shelter and a fire. I also joined an alliance consisting of the girls from 5, 7 and 9. We all had our strengths and weaknesses but we all worked together to protect each other until the end.

For the bloodbath my alliance and I had a plan to avoid anyone dying in the bloodbath and for all of us to get out. We decided that I would run in with the girl from 7 (Dara) to grab supplies and weapons for our alliance. While the girls from 5 and 9 (Electra and Autumn) would run and wait on the edge of a tunnel to make sure we know where they are.

However, while me and Dara were grabbing weapons, we hear Autumn screaming. We turn and see the boy from 7 (Nash) chasing Autumn with an axe with Electra nowhere to be seen. We run up to Nash and hit him on the head with a blunt side of two knifes at once and that knocked him out. We grab Autumn and look for Electra. We don't see her so we run don't one tunnel hoping she is alright as Autumn hasn't said anything about Electra betraying us.

A total of 12 people died in the bloodbath my year and during the fallen for day 1 we saw that Electra was sadly one of them. However, on the plus side 2 careers died (the guys from 4 and 10) making them down to six career tributes in their alliance. Day 2 and 3 only had 3 kills leaving us with 9 tributes left, (the girl from 1, the pair from 2, me, the girl from 4, Dara, Nash, the girl from 8 and Autumn)

At the dawn of day 4, we heard 2 cannons gong off right after the other. We would later find out those cannons were the girls from 2 and 8. Days 5 and 6 had no deaths and were uneventful. My alliance hasn't been affected by the games however that would change at the start of day 7.

I awoke to a scream and found Autumn being chased by the girl from 1 and the guy from 2 (Jade and Lewis). Dara and I awoke quickly and grab our weapons to defend Autumn. I killed Lewis by shooting him with an arrow but when Jade saw this she ran before Dara or I could kill her.

We turn to Autumn to ask how she ran into two careers when she just laughed. I will never forget what she said to us after she stopped however.

"Damn it, I wanted one of you two to die like weak Electra did when she fought Nash for me!" She reaches for her spear to throw at Dara but before she can do this, I put my knife to her throat.

"What do you mean?" I asked wanting to know if she led Electra into a trap at the bloodbath so we can get rid of a member in our alliance without killing Electra herself and if she was trying to do the same thing here.

"I ran right for Nash at the bloodbath and who was right next to him? Electra... so I used him to get rid of one of my strongest and smartest opponents in the games to make it easier for me to win and even tried it with you two but you were smarter than her. I tried it again today but of course you had to kill Lewis didn't you. One of you two couldn't have died peacefully and make it easier for me to wi-" Dara had enough and put her axe into her body effectively killing her. And just like that our alliance was down to two of us. We decided to stick with the alliance until one other person was dead.

At the end of day 8 we were attacked by the girl from 4 (Kelly). When she did attack us, she swung her sword into Dara's side and before she took take it out, I throw one of my knifes into her head killing her instantly. The sword wound was too deep so she decided to die right then and there and by her terms not by anyone else's. She asked me for one of my knifes and before she can end her life, she says to me.

"You better win, for me, for Electra, even for Autumn. We have faith in you. Good luck." Right after she says this, she swiftly drags the knife along her throat effectively ending her life.

There were only 3 of us left at the start of day 9, but by the end of it, there would be only one.

The game makers immediately wake us all up with an announcement that if we are not at the Cornucopia in 5 minutes then we die. I grab most of my supplies, water and weapons and leg it to the Cornucopia and manage to make it there in time. However, so did Nash and Jade.

Nash and Jade both start to fight each other thinking I'm the weaker one and the easier kill. However, before Jade can kill Nash, I see an opening and shoot Nash with an arrow to the eye. Jade sees this, turns to me and angerly runs at me with her sword raised in the sky ready to kill me. I reach for the axe that was Dara's and block her stab with it. I knock her sword out of her hands and before she can get a knife in her hands, I stab her in the head. Making me the winner of the 148th hunger games.

I still have nightmares of my kills in the arena and even people I didn't kill like my alliance. It starts with them looking at me and then one by one seeing their corpses. From Electra's and Dara's stabbed bodies. Autumn's body with an axe embedded in her chest. Jade's and Kelly's with a single stab wound in the head from where I stabbed them. Finally, Lewis and Nash with arrows in their head and eye respectively.

They all could have won and got home one way or another but it was me and now I have to mentor children to die in these horrible games that created a killing monster. I won't allow Dayta to become like me.
