Chapter 11: District 5 reaping:
Merope Malone (District 5 Female)
A week before the reaping's:
I finish pick locking the door of the secret labs which are used to make mutts for the games and enter the room. I guess being a celebrity does help you get the info you need. Yes I'm a from an outlying district and I'm in the Capitol without being reaped or volunteering for the hunger games. I have that Capitol official who heard me singing that day while I was working to thank for being this close to the capitol.
You might be asking your self's why I'm doing this? The simple answer to that question is... revenge against the capitol for my brother's death 6 years ago in the 144th hunger games which were won by the girl from our district but that doesn't hurt the fact that my brother died.
I walk over to the main computer and try to pick lock the desk but when I do, I see that it's empty. I then open them all and end up empty handed. I then do something that the rebels told me not to do. I try to sign in to the head mutt makers computer to try to see the plans.
However right as I do so all the lights come on and peace keepers along with president Nightshadow come rushing into the room.
I try to run away but as I do so I'm hit by one of the peace keepers gun and knocked onto the floor.
"What do we have here? A celebrity trying to betray those who gave her, her status?" Nightshadow then laughs after she says this.
"Have her put back into district 5 and make sure she is dealt with in a way that can't be traced back to us in anyway." Nightshadow says threateningly to the head game maker while looking directly into my eyes. I'm then knocked out and I awake in district 5 a day before the reaping.
The day of the reaping:
"Merope Malone!" I hear our new escort Amora say into the microphone.
I knew this would happen after I processed the day I woke up on. However, there was still some of me that hoped for a miracle that someone else was going to be reaped. As soon as I realise, I'm reaped I start walking towards the stage with a grim look on my face with a slight look of recognition.
I stand next to Amora and look at every one in the district and see shocked looks from everyone. So shocked that they don't see Amora picking a slip from the male's bowl.
"The male tribute of District 5 is Dex Armstrong!" I see a boy in the 17 year old section freeze up along with a girl in the 18 year old section. After about halve a minute he starts to slowly walk up to the stage with a depressive look on his face. As soon as he stands next to Amora, Amora makes us shake hands and shoves us towards the justice building to see our loved ones.
The only visitors I get are my parents who wish me good luck and hug until they leave. After that is a childhood friend I had until I was taken to the Capitol. She also wishes me luck and we hug and stand in silence until she leaves.
Even though my family and friend have my back I know that I won't make it fair into the games. Infact I won't be surprise if they blow my mines up before the countdown starts.
Dex Armstrong (District 5 Male):
I wake up and immediately dread of what sadness this day could bring to me or anybody else in the districts. Today is the day of the reaping for the 150th hunger games. I hope I don't get chosen for this year's games as does everybody else. Especially this year as the quells are normally more dangerous than the normal years.
I head downstairs to take care of my sister, Delina before I head to the reaping. I make her breakfast and while she eats' I clean the house as I know my dad won't and my mum is at work. As soon as I finish, I hear someone knock at the door. I open it and not surprized as it is my friend Madison.
Madison hugs me as soon as I open the door. I hug her back as is custom for us when it is reaping day.
"Why does it have to be my last year but you have one left?" Madison says worryingly as if she feels something off about today.
"Hey we will not be reaped today and I will not be reaped next year ok. Now let me get ready for the reaping's so we can get there without being reaped." As soon as I say this, I head upstairs to change into my reaping clothes which consist of a black t-shirt, with blue jeans and blue sneakers, I also decide to put on a red jacket.
I head downstairs to see Madison playing with Delina and I decide to join for a little bit until I realise that we have to be at the reaping's soon. I tell Madison and we leave and bring Delina with us to give to my mum before we sign in to the reaping's.
After me and Madison give Delina to my mother we sign in to the reaping and give each other a hug of good luck and go to our respective age categories. As we are waiting for the reaping's to start, I can't help but let my nerves feel me with dread. What if me or Madison is reaped? How will Madison and my family react if I'm reaped? How will I react if Madison is reaped?
My thoughts are interrupted my loud clicks. We see our escort who appears to be new walk on stage. I guess the capitol decide to reward our previous escort for having both of our tributes get to the top 8 last year, however they were both killed right after the family interviews by the boys from 2 and 7.
"Welcome, welcome to the reaping for the 150th hunger games. I'm Amora your new escort, let's start with the traditional video sent to us from the capitol." Amora says surprisingly calmly into the microphone. We all turn our head to watch the video, the same video we watch every year.
"Now that's done let's pick the tributes for this year's hunger games, starting with our lucky girl." Amora then walks over to the girl bowl and picks out a slip, she walks back to the mic and opens the slip.
"The female tribute for District 5 is..." Amora pauses for dramatic effect as all of our escorts do. "Merope Malone!"
As soon as Amora says Merope's name we are all shocked except Merope who has a grim look all over her face. Why would Merope be reaped? She is extremely popular in the capitol and our district for her singing she does in the factories. Infact I think my mother has heard her sing once. If she was reaped then she was reaped for a reason and that reason has to be really bad.
We are all to shocked that when Amora reaches into the boy's bowl we don't realise until she is naming off the name on the slip.
"Dex Armstrong!"
I freeze up when I hear my name being called. It takes a few seconds to process what just happened and as soon as I do I slowly walk up to the stage and think about how I'm probably going to die in the bloodbath to a career tribute or later on in the games as I have no way of coming home to Madison or Delina.
I stand next to Amora and wait for the reaping to end so I can say goodbye to my family.
"District 5 these are your tributes for the 150th hunger games! May the odds be ever in your favour!" We are the forced to shake hands and I see a look of grim and sadness as if she knows she will be an early death in the games this year. I wonder what that is about.
After the hand shake, we are then forced into the visitor's rooms so we can say good bye to our loved ones. The first people to come into mine is my mother and father. They hug me and say good luck and make me promise them to come home to them. Which I do but halve heartedly as I know I will never be coming home.
They leave and the next person to come in is Madison and Delina. They both immediately hug me and Madison kisses my cheek. I sit on the couch and pull Delina into my lap and hug her while Madison sits next to me.
"Look I know you're thinking you're going to die early on but we both know that's not going to happen. Your stealthy you can get supplies from the careers every night and even during the day and survive basically on that and not kill a single tribute until the finale. Just promise me not to die and come back ok? If not for me then at least for Delina. She is too young to lose her older brother. Ok?" Madison says while letting tears stream down her face.
I turn to her and say. "I promise both of you that I will come back home." I then hug them both again clearing their faces of tears until they are both ripped from me with Delina screaming and crying for me.
As soon as the door is slammed shut it's when the silent tears come flooding down my face. I think can I do this while I wait for the train to take me to the capitol.
Cosmo Zeu (District 5 Female winner of the 144th hunger games):
I look at Merope the girl who had it all. Now it looks like she is going to die in the bloodbath. I remember her brother James the boy in my games when I won. We were allied but were separated due to a game maker trap during night 1. During day 2 we went out searching for each other however, the girl from 9 found James first and stabbed him in the stomach and ran off. I managed to find him before he died but couldn't save him in time. I wonder if she has some pent-up anger in her from her brother's death and have to wonder even more on what she will do in the arena?
Dex on the other hand looks like a strong contender to survive a while in the games but can he kill to make it home? He looks like he can sneak around like Finch did in the 74th hunger games. I hope he can make it far enough into the games to have such an lasting impression that Finch did for surviving so long without making a single kill and me for winning the hunger games.
A/N: District 5 done only 2 more to go.
I'm sorry for being late with the update since it's been about 2-3 weeks since I last updated.
