Of all the times Jack had gone to London, none of them had been quite like this. Maybe it was because he had never been so restricted - he was here with family who couldn't fly, which meant he had ended up being confined to the ground. He'd been forced to dodge and weave through the throngs of people on the street, and sit squished in the back of the car with Jamie and Sophie when they'd finally found the relative who'd come to pick them up.
The family they were visiting were from Mrs Bennett's father's side - the side that had married into the line Jack was directly related to. So technically they weren't really related to him at all, but there was still something nice - something warm - about being surrounded by family, even if that family had no idea he existed. Married in or not, these people were a connection to his sister, and he cherished that link.
Still, Jack had never really been a fan of crowds. The house they'd been brought to was of reasonable size, but it was packed to the brim with people. The thought that all of them were related, even if indirectly, was almost overwhelming. He hadn't realised just how big his family had become. He wished he'd known sooner.
The Bennetts had made no promises about anyone spontaneously believing in Jack Frost. And Jack hadn't really minded. It had been enough for him to just have the three of them see him, acknowledge him, but he would be lying if he said he wouldn't have loved to be able to properly interact with the others, too. Unfortunately, it wasn't really a possibility; Mrs Bennett had only been convinced because of a long history of her kids carrying on about Jack Frost. These people had no reason to suspect anything. And they likely would not believe it if one of the Bennetts tried to convince them.
But it was fine. He hung out with Jamie and Sophie, who whispered introductions to him, and fed him titbits of information and pieces of dinner when no one else was looking. They were the only kids there - the next youngest being a second cousin, who was in their late teens, and not particularly interested in hanging out with a 14 year old and his 8 year old sister. Jamie and Sophie hardly minded, though.
By the time the kids were ushered up to bed - the Bennetts sharing one of the guest rooms - Jack was starting to get a little antsy. He felt cramped in such a busy house where he had to constantly watch where everyone else was going. And it was a little lonely, only having a few people even know he was there. So when Jamie propped himself up on one elbow and asked, "Can we go sight-seeing?", he really didn't have it in him to say no.
"I don't know if that's such a good idea." He had to at least pretend to be responsible.
"Please?" Sophie begged. "I want to see some spirits!"
They were giving him the puppy eyes. Jack had no idea who'd taught them that but damn it was practically weaponised. "Fine. But only if your mom says yes."
Their expressions turned pensive. Jack couldn't blame them. The likelihood of her agreeing was slim. But the alternative was risking getting caught and... well... Jack would rather tick off Pitch than her. He gave them an apologetic smile and disappeared back downstairs to track her down.
She was sitting on the couch chatting with one of her uncles when he found her. They were both holding a glass of wine. There were a couple of others in the next room, and the teenager was sitting sideways on an armchair, absorbed by their phone. Mrs B glanced at him inconspicuously as he sat on the armrest closest to her.
"Hey," he said, talking over the uncle, who was saying something or other about work. "The kids wanna go sight-seeing. Is it cool if I take them for a flight?"
Mrs Bennett pursed her lips, eyes darting back to her uncle. She nodded at him to maintain the ruse of interest, and then looked sharply at the clock on the mantelpiece. It was nearing 10:30.
"Just a quick lap around London. I'll have them back in their beds by 11."
She still did not approve, he could tell. Time to pull out the big guns.
"Think of it as a 'family experience'."
She couldn't stop the unamused scowl that crossed her face.
"Is everything alright?" her uncle asked.
Mrs Bennett blinked, quickly wiping the expression from her face. "Yes, sorry. I was just remembering that the kids had been nagging me about sight-seeing. They probably won't sleep at all tonight." She turned to the stairs, but her eyes fixed on Jack. "At least for the next half hour, anyway."
The uncle looked very confused, but Jack grinned. That was permission if he ever saw it. "Thanks, Mrs B!" he said, already halfway back up the stairs.
"Well?" the kids asked, sitting up in their beds as he practically flew back into the room.
"Put on your coats."
Their faces lit up like he'd just told them Christmas had come early. In less than a second they were up, frantically grabbing for the coats dumped on top of their bags.
"We only have half an hour," Jack said, pushing the bedroom window open. "So we'll just do one lap and come back, okay?"
Sophie pouted. "Does that mean no spirits?"
"Not necessarily. We might spot some. There's bound to be some of Tooth's fairies around. And Sandy'll be here soon."
That was good enough for them, apparently. They both joined him by the window, and he helped them clamber up to the sill. Then, grabbing onto both of them, he threw all three of them off the ledge. The wind easily caught them before they made it to the first floor windows, and they were off.
England had always looked better from the sky. At night, especially. At night with snow falling was just the icing on the cake. The kids breathed out in awe as they got a bird's eye view of the city, lit up from below. There was just enough cloud cover that anyone who happened to look up wouldn't see them. They might hear them, though, given the way Jamie was shouting in excitement, and Sophie was gasping in awe.
Jack flew them in a loose circle around the city, forming a spiralling map in his mind that left Big Ben for last. He'd take them right up to the top before they went back.
"Look!" Sophie cried.
Jack followed where she was pointing, and easily spotted the tiny tooth fairies darting from house to house. "Wanna go say hi?"
"Yes!"
He took them down to one of the higher roofs, letting go as soon as they were steady so that he could flip down over the edge. "Hey!"
The fairy emerging through the window paused, looking up at him. She squeaked in excitement. As she drew closer, he realised it wasn't just any fairy.
"Hey, Baby Tooth!"
Baby Tooth beamed at him, and then fluttered over to the kids, who were more than happy to lavish her in attention. She chittered at him, and though he still had no idea how to speak fairy, he got the gist of what she was saying.
"We're here on a family vacation. Visiting relatives."
"We're sight-seeing," Jamie added.
"Do you want to come with us?" Sophie asked hopefully.
Baby Tooth darted around her - a clear yes. Jack stood, grabbed onto the kids, and then they were off again, this time with Baby Tooth taking the lead, her iridescent feathers shining under the city lights. When there was only ten minutes left until they were due back, Jack directed them towards Big Ben. Up close, the clock tower was even more spectacular - you really couldn't get a feel for just how imposing it was from the ground. And while they couldn't see Big Ben itself, the kids seemed dazzled enough just to see the tower.
"Time to head back," Jack finally said, noting that they were starting to run out of time.
The kids, predictably, groaned in disappointment.
"There'll be time for more sightseeing later. Maybe we can take your mom next time."
More groans. Poor Mrs B.
"You heading back, too?" he turned to Baby Tooth. In response, she nestled herself in his hair. "I'll take that as a no." Which was fine. He could introduce her to Mrs B. She hadn't had the chance to meet Tooth yet. This would be a good starting point.
They took off towards the house, but they'd barely set off before Jack was forced to pull up sharply. They weren't the only ones in the sky that night.
A boy in green, flanked by a few other flying children (all in pyjamas, like his own companions), practically skidded to a halt in midair. A glowing light that Jack identified as an actual fairy (unlike Baby Tooth, who was more of a bird), bounced off Jack's chest as she failed to stop in time. The two parties stared at each other for a long moment.
"Uh," Jack started awkwardly. "Hi?"
The boy in green circled around them curiously. "Never seen you around before," he said.
Jack craned his neck to follow the movement. It was... uncomfortably like looking in a mirror, except that none of them resembled each other. Jamie and Sophie stared at the other flying children in blatant shock. Jack wondered if they could see the boy in green.
"Who're you?" Jack asked.
"Peter Pan," the boy stopped, bowing deeply.
Jack blinked. For real? Wasn't Peter Pan just a story? You're one to talk, he thought to himself. "Hey, Jamie, Sophie, tell me what you see."
They looked up at him. "Flying kids," they said.
"How many?"
"Three."
"Four," Jack corrected. "Peter Pan."
He could pinpoint the exact moment they could see him, mouths falling open in shock. Then, predictably, "Can we go to Neverland?!"
Baby Tooth poked her head out to greet the fairy - probably Tinker Bell - who had flown up to her in curiosity.
"Sure!" Peter Pan grinned. "The more the merrier!"
Peter Pan's abducted children were in agreement. Should he do something about that?
"Uh, no," Jack countered. He hated being the one to stop the fun, but that was definitely not happening. "We have to get you guys back."
"Awwwww."
Jack eyed the other kids. He probably really should do something about that. "You guys should probably go home too. Before your parents realise you're gone."
"But we're going to Never Land!" the oldest whined. She, at least, was a believer, it seemed. That made things easier. But also harder. It meant she had enough imagination that she wouldn't easily be dissuaded.
Jack eyed Peter Pan. He wouldn't be easily dissuaded, either. I'm so out of my depth here. And there were only a few minutes left until he was supposed to have Jamie and Sophie back in bed. Maybe he should just get them back and figure out what to do after that.
"If you promise to be home by morning, I won't stop you," he settled on. The kids looked like they were still going to protest, so he tactfully added, "And I won't tell Santa you were breaking curfew."
North would doubtlessly know anyway when it came time to check the List, but eh.
"Fiiiine," the kids relented - so easily manipulated by the promise of presents, as most kids were. Maybe he should make a note to check on them later. Make sure they did actually get home.
"Let's go!" Peter Pan cried impatiently, and shot off before anyone had the chance to respond. Tinker Bell darted after him, closely followed by the kids. Jack and his own entourage watched them go for only a moment before Jack got them going again. They only had a few minutes left.
Jamie and Sophie only just managed to slip under the covers of their beds before the bedroom door swung open. Mrs Bennett regarded them with narrowed eyes, as if she knew that they had only made their curfew by mere seconds. Jack grinned disarmingly at her. Her eyes narrowed further, but she shut the door softly.
As they listened to her footsteps fade down the hall, Jack flopped back onto Jamie's bed with a sigh of relief.

Hanabi: It was wishful thinking hahaha
Summerstorm: It would be so weird ngl but I mean kids tend to be weird so if I happened to see a mob of unrelated children spontaneously raise their hands I'd probably just be like 'yeah okay'. This chap is as close to a sequel to the last one as we'll get ^^' gotta keep moving to get through all the requests!
