Ichigo's hands tightened their grip on the miko's shoulders as he kept his glare tight on her own eyes. There was no way he was going to let her go into Soul Society with the current situation. Especially not with Haschwalth who had declared they hand her over to him.

"Let me go, Ichigo-kun! Soul Society needs help!" The miko shouted trying her best with her strength to push the orange head shinigami away. She was aware of Haschwalth's order, but that did not mean she was going to remain sitting like a little 'princess' while everyone was sacrificing themselves for Soul Society and the world. If Haschwalth wanted her, then she would would fight him head on.

"I am not going to let you go! You think I'm stupid?!"

"But Soul Society-!"

The orange head pinned the miko the wall to Urahara's shop from outside. He had been lucky to get to her before Uryuu had shot an arrow to her. His anger was fuming the moment he saw Uryuu had switched sides and had ended up attacking one of their friends.

He wanted nothing more than to kill every Quincy, but the problem was Uryuu. A friend, but now an enemy. He was not going to go lose the one person he loved.

"Let me protect you!" He shouted, knowing how much the miko hated to be behind a person. He was more than happy to see her grow, but the events with the Quincy were calling for a different strategy.

"I can protect myself just fine, Ichigo-kun!" The miko's eyes tightened to match the glare of the substitute shinigami. Yes she was afraid of going against the Quincies, but what else could she do? She could not just let her shinigami friends take the fall for her!

Pushing Ichigo to the side, the miko finally made her way forward before she was stopped once more with his hand around her wrist. "Ichigo-kun, please, I need to go-!"

Kagome blinked as she saw pain in his eyes. The words that were left at the tip of her tongue died off. She had come to know Ichigo as stubborn, strong, and courageous, but this was a different sight for her.

He was afraid.

"I can't lose you, too, Kagome," he whispered. "I can't lose another person I love in my life. My mother was taken from and I cannot let you be taken away from me. Please…let me protect you."
