Voldemort's Heir

He found himself in pouring rain in the middle of a dense forest, on the arm of Arius Selwyn, who reacted faster than he and hurriedly swung his wand in a whipping motion. Harry felt as if a troll had hit him, he was thrown backwards and crashed against a thick tree trunk.

"Avada-"

Harry threw himself to the side and behind another tree, the killing curse missed him by inches.

"Now no one can help you, Potter!", Selwyn said aloud.

"Nor you!" Harry yelled back, throwing a hasty glance around the tree.

"Avada Kedavra!"

He hurriedly tore his head to the side as Selwyn's death curse blew away a part of the tree. His own stunner was fended off. The Death Eater hurled another green flash of light at him, which Harry escaped by jumping behind another tree.

"You can't defeat me, Potter!", Selwyn cried hoarsely. "I am the heir of the Dark Lord, and I will lead the Dark Order back to power!"

- "You're a murderer and an idiot!" Harry yelled back and jumped over to the next tree, just in time, before Selwyn's next killing curse split the one he had been behind a moment earlier.

"Lumos Maxima!", he hurriedly called to blind Selwyn before rolling to the side. Two more killing curses wandered through the air, so Harry didn't even get to attack Selwyn himself.

"That's the end for you, Potter!", Selwyn screamed. "Stop moving and die like a man!"

Harry didn't think of it at all and dodged another curse as a plan slowly formed in his head. He thought feverishly about celebrating with Ron and Hermione, and then the silver stag jumped out of the top of his wand and stormed towards Selwyn with his antlers lowered.

"A Patronus, Potter?", Selwyn jeered. "I don't let myself be distracted so easily!"

But the Patronus was more than just a distraction, because his silver light completely dazzled Selwyn for a brief moment, allowing Harry to cast a mute stunner on him. The red flash of light bounced onto a solid shield and was answered with a green one, which Harry could dodge again only by jumping to the side.

"Stunners," Selwyn laughed manically. "You are and always will be a softie, Potter!"

Harry pointed his wand at a tree that stood between him and Selwyn. "Diffindo!"

The tree fell in Selwyn's direction, causing the Death Eater to jump to the side in a hurry. Harry fired two more stunners at him, but one was caught by Selwyn's shield and the other missed him.

"You're dying, Potter!", Selwyn shouted after another killing curse scared Harry back behind another tree. "Just like your Auror friends!"

He screamed his next killing curse curse and Harry rushed to the ground. The flash of light wandered right through the tree where his head had been before.

"Bombarda Maxima!", he cried, but Selwyn's shield turned out to be more effective than Dawlish's, leaving the explosive spell ineffective.

"Stupor! Confringo! Reducto!", Harry roared, but Selwyn fended off everything with ease before shooting another killing curse at him, hitting a squirrel.

"You can't beat me, Harry Potter!", Selwyn shouted, laughing as insanely as his dead master. "You can't stop me!"

He was right, Harry grimly recognized. He was on his own and just as hopeless as he had been against Snape. Selwyn was better than him, the better Duelist, and he had no Elder Wand and no phoenix core to help him against him - he groaned quietly when he finally realized that he had everything he needed in the bag on his neck. Harry pulled out the invisibility cloak, threw it over himself and stepped out behind the tree, just in time for Selwyn to make small wood out of the tree. The Death Eater pinched his eyes.

"What are these games, Potter?- Accio Cloak!"

As expected, the invisibility cloak did not react. Harry took a slight bow around Selwyn, lifted the phoenix stick and sent off a mute stunner, but Selwyn's shield spell caught him before the Death Eater swirled around and sent an explosive spell in Harry's rough direction, followed by several death curses, to which Harry hurriedly dodged before looking for cover again behind a tree. It didn't help, he thought furiously, clutching the phoenix stick. He couldn't get close to Selwyn, couldn't break his shield, none of his spells were strong enough. He stared grimly at his wand. Of course, there was a spell that he knew could not be repelled, but -

"Come to die, Potter!", Selwyn screamed. "Come to die!"

No, Harry thought angrily. He wouldn't die. Not so, not before he had put an end to all of this. Williamson came to his mind as he lay dead on the grass, and Paula Zeas, who had almost shared his fate, and Kingsley and the two others he had blown up. Selwyn had to be stopped - and if there was no other way, it had to be like this.

Harry pulled the blackthorn stick out of his sleeve and jumped out behind the tree, both arms pointed on Selwyn, and for the first time in his life he shouted the two words he had never wanted to speak, at the same moment as the last Death Eater.

"Avada Kedavra!"

Two of the three green flashes of light met in the air, deflected each other and disappeared between the trees, but the third found its target and hit it in the chest. Selwyn's eyes grew large when he realized what had happened, and then he was thrown around by the force of the curse and remained lying motionless in the rain while his wand hit the wet forest floor. Voldemort's heir was dead and beaten, and his black eyes stared blankly and empty upwards.
