[X] Lighten the mood. Suggest going to the arcade.
"Maybe we should try something else?" Yang asked. "Maybe go to the arcade?"
"...The arcade sounds fun." Miltia agreed, looking at the jacket for a moment longer. "But hold on, I want to see if they have this in your size first."
"Yeah, sure." Yang nodded along, trying not to push her. She seemed fine-ish now, but she did just have a moment where she remembered her sister and everything about that situation, so there was no point making an argument about this.
Miltia nodded, and wandered off again.
It took Miltia to return with a bigger, somehow even more tassel-covered matador jacket, and passed it towards Yang.
"It got worse." Yang noted.
"It's a matador jacket." Miltia responded. "It's supposed to be flamboyant."
"Of course it's a matador jacket, it's basically one of those overdesigned carpets which people will yell at you for getting dirty. Except in jacket form."
"It suits you." Miltia insisted.
"It's not even remotely a suit." Yang replied.
Miltia rolled her eyes, and Yang took the jacket, making a show of reluctance in the process.
It took her a moment to slip it on, noting for a moment that it was a bit big, but around about a good size to be worn around while leaving her room to grow into it.
"It looks great." Miltia decided, putting a hand on her chin in the process. "Doesn't work well with your current clothes, but it has potential. Do you have any dark you could wear underneath that? Blacks or dark greys?"
"A few shirts." Yang shrugged. "Nothing I want to run home for now, though."
Miltia walked next to Yang, grabbed her arm, and held it up to the side.
"You should keep it." Miltia decided. "Even if you think it looks ridiculous, you like jokes. Just wear it, don't tell anyone, and own it."
Yang took a moment to think about how Ruby, her father, and probably Qrow would react to her wearing something like this.
"...Yeah, alright, this jacket has its uses." She decided.
"I knew I'd convince you eventually." Miltia decided, with a grin. "Now, come on, I want your opinion on some dresses-"
"Just get what's cheapest." Yang suggested.
"...On second thought, I'll just drag Hei shopping later." Miltia decided. "You said something about the arcade? I wouldn't mind going to the arcade."
Yang nodded, and quickly took off the jacket, took it off, and walked towards the front desk.
The transaction took a moment, with an oddly familiar looking boy with blond hair and an expression of someone dead inside droned on for a moment about asking if she was a member of some premium club, and Miltia then proceeded to pull out another card and take ten percent off the price of the jacket.
And with that done, the two of them wandered off towards the arcade.
"So, do you go to the arcade often?" Miltia asked.
"Not recently." Yang replied. "From time to time, though, yeah. Dancing game's great, shooting game's alright, fighting games are pretty good but there's been a new release so there'll probably be a huge line in that area, and... You know those racing games where they have a prop motorcycle and how you shift on that controls the game? They've got some good races."
Miltia nodded. "What about claw machines?"
"Complete scams." Yang replied, brushing off the idea. "They're terrible, and you should never ever use them. Unless I want one of the plushies in the claw machine. In which case I need all your money."
Miltia rolled her eyes, and the two stepped into the arcade a moment later.
Sure enough, over i the back right corner, there was a crowd of people gathered around one particular machine, where loud button pressing noises could be heard.
"Weren't you meant to be the best?" Asked a voice that Yang could have sworn she'd heard before. "You're not impressing, Blast."
"Come on, Cardin." Blast's voice replied. "It's a new game. I haven't had time to find the cheap moves yet."
"And I don't intend to give you time." Cardin replied, before the button mashing intensified for a moment.
There was a sudden flash of light from the corner.
"Found the cheap move." Blast replied. "Taunt cancel into instant kill combo, apparently. Next?"
Yang got bored and stopped paying attention.
"What do you want to try first?" Yang asked.
Miltia thought on it, for a moment.
"The shooting game?" She suggested. "I hear that they use to be training simulators until the military in Atlas got better ways of simulating things."
"Is this your way of saying I'm right without saying I'm right?" Yang asked. "Learning to use a gun with an outdated simulator?"
"I'm sure that has nothing to do with it." Miltia responded. "Absolutely no relation. Unrelated note, are any of the scenarios in it involving hidden guns that can be hidden in a jacket?"
"The party brawl." Yang replied, as she walked over to the machine and fiddled with the settings. "Party gets violent, goes too far, everyone is underarmed."
"We'll try that." Miltia nodded.
"I'll put it on easy for you." Yang pointed out. Then, after a moment of consideration, changed her mind. "Wait, nevermind, this one is co-operative, I'll put it on normal and just not try until you lose."
"You're so mean." Miltia sighed, as Yang passed her a headset. The virtual simulation worked better through the headset and you weren't just facing a screen. More of a requirement for situational awareness.
"If you want I can put it on hard and you can just watch me after losing instantly." Yang suggested, putting on a headset of her own. The sound from the corner of the arcade died out as it activated, and after a moment, Yang and Miltia were watching the simulated room, waiting for them to pick up a weapon.
"Let's go then." Yang decided, picking a gauntlet-mounted gun for the sake of familiarity.
The game started a moment later, as Yang looked over to confirm that the generic faceless avatar representing Miltia had picked a normal handgun, and the shooting started a moment later.
Lazily, Yang fired towards some priority targets, taking some headshots to rack up a cheap score, while Miltia fired frantically behind her.
"Don't waste ammo." Yang advised." And aim for the centre of mass."
"I know." Miltia nodded. "I didn't go to a school for Hunters, but that doesn't mean I don't know the basics."
Yang ducked aside past a slow moving grenade, and shot it away for more bonus points.
"I have to wonder what that's like." Yang mused. "Going to a school that doesn't teach Hunter stuff."
"It just doesn't prioritise fighting, is all." Miltia replied. "Well, there's a self defence course that's mandatory, but there's not many lessons on that, it's either generic weapons or self tutelage, and it focuses more on not losing, rather than winning."
"And probably doesn't go into the Grimm and outside Kingdom stuff as much, I assume." Yang mused.
"It doesn't." Miltia confirmed. "Only people going outside the Kingdoms would be Hunters, merchants or people who lived out there already. Farmers, mostly."
There was a beeping from behind Yang.
"I lost." Miltia sighed.
Yang nodded, and put in actual effort, shooting the rest of the room before long.
"There is one flaw in this as a simulation." Yang pointed out. "You can't move around in it. It's situational awareness, you'd never be standing still so long. And you're a melee fighter, so standing still is probably the worst possible thing for you in a fight."
"Hm." Miltia mused. "That's a good point."
"Maybe try popping by the training gym if you want to practice better." Yang suggested. "They can lend a generic pistol so you can get a feel of it while moving and kicking around."
Miltia nodded. "Maybe. There's no point thinking about learning to shoot better if I learn to do it while standing still, it'll be useless in a fight. Mobility is basically the most important thing in a fight, after all."
"Want to try something else?" Yang suggested. "Dancing game, maybe?"
"Sure, why not." Miltia replied.
Walking out of the mall with an ice cream cone in hand, Yang turned back to Miltia.
"Today was fun." She decided.
"Yeah." Miltia nodded, looking around at the mostly emptied street. "It was good. It was nice to be able to have fun without..."
She trailed off a bit, and looked sad for a moment.
"...Are you alright?" Yang asked.
Miltia shook her head. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me, let's try to stay positive today. It's just..."
"...Something to do with your sister?" Yang asked. "Hey, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I'm just saying, if you never need a distraction, or if you ever want to talk about it, I'm just a call away."
Miltia's lips tilted upwards into a slight smile. "Thanks, Yang. I... I shouldn't miss her. She's been the one who-"
She paused, and sighed. "Never mind. I'll talk about it later. We have ice cream for now. Let's focus on the ice cream instead."
Yang nodded. "If you want to. Think good things. Like my flavour of ice cream, and not yours."
"You don't even know what flavour mine is." Miltia pointed out.
"Yeah, but it doesn't matter what it is, the argument would still happen."
Miltia sighed. "We have the same flavour, Yang."
"Yes, but this one is mine."
Miltia's smile told Yang all she needed to know about what her mind was on now. Good. The jokes that were completely hilarious no matter what Ruby said worked again.
"So, are you doing anything later?" Miltia asked.
"Not much." Yang replied. "Finished up a school assignment recently, and we're going into break in a week or so. Got my birthday then, too."
"Really?" Miltia asked. "Is there anything you'd want?"
"Not really." Yang shrugged. "Some peace and quiet, maybe."
"I'll get you an alarm that never stops ringing." Miltia decided.
"Jerk." Yang replied, with a smile.
"Well, I gotta go." Miltia eventually said. "I've got work in a few minutes."
"It's great not having a job." Yang replied. "I can come back here in an hour if I wanted to and investigate the new Infernindigo game if I wanted to."
Miltia smiled, as she finished her ice cream. "See you areound, Yang."
"Have fun standing around looking pretty." Yang replied, waving as she finished her own cone.
And with that, Miltia left, leaving Yang alone with the small bag containing the ridiculous looking matador jacket. As she walked home, Yang decided this was fun.
Way better than just moping about not being good enough as usua-
Nope, nope, she was cutting those thoughts out right here. She didn't need them, and neither did anyone else that relied on her.
As she hit the path home, Yang's scroll vibrated, and after a moment, she pulled it out to see who was talking to her.
...Two?
Answering the scroll immediately, Yang put it to her ear. "Hello?"
"Yang!" Came the undeniable voice of the Intoner. "It's been, like, a million years! I mean, not literally, that was an exaggeration for comedic purpose, but look, it's been so long that I could get the joke I said without having to explain it to me!"
There was silence for a moment.
"...I just said something that made no sense." Two decided. "Let's move on. How have you been, Yang?"
"As good as I can be." Yang replied. "I met your sister Four a while ago, and I've seen One on the news a lot. I see everyone's busy."
"Well, not everyone." Two admitted. "I'm not really doing much apart from fixing the doors I keep breaking. And that one wall. And Three's robot doll thingy but she admitted she was mostly using it to test pats for the orange one anyway so that doesn't matter that I broke it. But One's really busy, yeah."
"I didn't know you had ties to the Schnee." Yang pointed out. "I mean, apart from Winter helping you out with the orphans. Did she only do that because of One knowing the Schnee?"
"Nah." Two replied. "Winter's a good person. And One met her while making deals with military people, not the Schnee. The rest of it is just a coincidence."
"So, did you want to talk about something specific?" Yang asked. "Or are you just here to check on me?"
"Ah, right, I wanted to tell you." Two continued. "One hasn't told anyone else yet, but she's convinced Weiss- And I can never tell if I'm supposed to pronounce that Wuh-Ice or Vice- To do something with Schnee money. There's gonna be a contest in a week or so, when all the school people are out of school. A bunch of young Hunters in training sign up, go in a raffle, and the winners get a paid vacation to Atlas so they can see One do... Something."
"Something?" Yang asked.
"I'm not too clear on the plan yet." Two admitted. "One says she'll tell me what I needed to know. But she also said that since I like you and Four likes you and she still needed to give you a proper explanation for what Five did, I could ask you if you wanted her to pull some strings and get you and your family invited without going through the raffle. It's just cheaper to put you on the same airship as whoever the winners end up being."
Yang was quiet, for a moment, as she thought about it.
"You don't need to answer me now." Two said. "Or now. Or now. Or- Do you get the idea? I'm not sure I get the idea but I want to make sure you do. Anyway, just call me back in, like, a day. Or a night. When time has passed. Talk to your family, see if they want to come. It'll be fun! And you can-"
There was a crash from the other end of the line, and Two's voice suddenly got panicky.
"Hey! Put that down! I- Sorry, Yang, the kids are acting up a bit, I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"That's fine." Yang replied. "It was nice talking to you, Two. Bye."
"Bye! Wait, no, that's Three's-"
The line went dead, and Yang pocketed her scroll for a moment.
...Free trip to Atlas? It sounded tempted, and Yang had to admit, she was looking forward to seeing whatever it was One was planning.
And possibly getting an explanation as to why Five did what she did. Really, it'd been how long since Five had been spirited away to Atlas? And Yang still didn't have an answer? It'd be nice to resolve that, sometime soon.
Get some answers as to why the entire thing happened. Why Ruby had been kidnapped, held captive for so long, resulting in so many people getting hurt, Qrow lost and arm and Miltia's relationship with her sister got damaged because of Five and there was never an explanation as to why-
And she was getting upset again. No, no, she totally earned the right to be, but it wouldn't help her getting upset now, when she was going home to see Ruby. She could get upset if everyone decided to go to Atlas and they got to talk to Five or something.
Making sure her scroll was still in her pocket, Yang picked up the pace, and started jogging home.
So, which major event is going on now?
[X] Everyone decides to go on the Atlas trip.
[X] They don't, and something else happens.
But regardless of what happens next, Yang will have one more bit of free time for something important before things happen again. Here, she-
