Sister Guard

Sam started to cry. Brooke stopped as she felt Sam shake.
"Sammy, what's the matter?"
The brunette started to speak soundlessly.
Brooke reached for her step-sister's hand. "You can tell me anything."
"Brooke," Sam mouthed.
"Did someone hurt you?" questioned the blonde intensely.
"Do you think that it was my fault?" Sam robotically asked.
"What!" Brooke exclaimed. "Tell me what happened."
Sam stood up, but Brooke held her hand. The brunette stared off into the corner as stray tears sled down her face.
"Sammy, look at me," Brooke quietly pleaded.
Wisps of dark hair shielded Sam's eyes like a blindfold.
Brooke squeezed Sam's hand gently. "No matter what happens in your life, you can tell me." Sam stilled.
"No matter where you are in the world," the blonde earnestly continued, "I will be there if you need me."
Sam peered down at their clasped hands. Brooke studied Sam hopefully. The brunette caught her gaze. Tears—gnat-sized, ghostly gems—grazed Sam's cheeks.
Sam tugged her step-sister's hand closer.
And, then, Sam smiled softly at Brooke.
Brooke exhaled. "No matter what, you will always be Sammy to me." The blonde's eyes brightened. "Sweet—no matter what. Strong—no matter what."
Sam swung their hands. Brooke slowly stood up to meet her.
