Summary- Aizen and Gin enjoy their last evening above ground in soul society before aizen has to fake his death and go into hiding. Written to Mr Blue by Catherine Feeny. Inspired by the finale of BoJack Horseman.
A/N- Hitting complete on this one and calling a day for now. I feel relieved and accomplished. If a little sad. So i know its the right choice. If I come back to this one then I come back. If not...well... it was nice while it lasted :)
I have ideas for another anthology like this which is a different mood but that will come after some time away from this series after Fisher ends. Alongside other stories. But I won't be disappearing forever.
Anyway. Enjoy the ficlet. Thanks for reading all of this if you've made it here. And have a nice day.
Nice while it lasted.
Aizen sat on the blanket in their garden and sighed. Soft, content, and slightly melancholic. It was, after all, their last night together above ground. And he did so hate goodbyes. Even though they were sometimes necessary.
But at least he had Gin beside him. So they could watch the sunset together for one last time. Carpe Diem. Seize the day, or whatever was left of it. Which was a few hours at most.
Gin reappeared from the house and sat beside him, handing him a mug of hot tea, slipping a hand into his. Reminding him of his solidity in a world filled with such transience. That come what may, Gin would always be here.
Even in the darkest times.
Gin leant against him and squeezed his hand.
"Last sunset."
"Yep."
"Pretty huh? Ya know it's true what they say. How ya don't really appreciate somethin' til ya know ya won't see it no more."
Aizen smiled. Lips soft. Eyes sad. "I think you're preaching to the converted on that one."
"Right. Of course. Sorry." Gin smiled, returning his gaze to the slowly setting sun. They sat there in a companionable silence for a while, just watching the sun's slow descent below the horizon. Making the most of the time they had left before everything changed again. Before Aizen put his plan into motion and set the ball rolling downhill in a massive gamble.
It was nice. Peaceful. And they were determined to make the most of it. By burning the image of the sunset into their minds because it was the last one they'd share together for a while.
And Aizen's last one altogether before they left for Huecco Mundo. The Place of Nightmares.
"I think of all things, I'll miss the sun the most," Gin added quietly.
Aizen just smiled. Of course, he wouldn't say anything about the sun he'd build for Gin once they got there. But he knew it wouldn't be the same as the real thing. This would be the last time they'd watch a real sun set together.
"Me too," he replied. "That's why we have to make the most of this one while we still can."
Gin nodded. "It's still kinda sad though."
"I know. We'll be leaving everything behind soon."
"Did you like it here?" Gin asked him. "This place."
"It had its highlights," Aizen smiled. "Yuki. Ran. You. And I have to admit I'd be lying if I said I won't miss it."
"True," Gin nodded. "Our whole lives are here. This must be what humans feel like when they move countries. Ready to go but... kinda sad."
Aizen pulled his Gin into a tight embrace. Knowing Gin had a lot more to say goodbye to than he ever did. Hell, he couldn't even begin to imagine the heart wrenching silent goodbye he'd have to give Ran. At least Yuki wasn't alive to suffer him leaving.
"I know," he said. "But hey, we did have some fun, right?"
Gin mirrored his smile. Soft and a little sad. And aizen knew Gin was sore and sick and sad for the same reason. It was like sort of pre-homesickness. The sort you got before you even left home.
"Tha' we did. At least we got some good memories."
"Very true."
"Like that time we broke into the hot springs... oh, an' that time we went on our Rukon theivin' spree."
Aizen chuckled. "Yes, that was pretty fun."
Gin sighed heavily, spirit a little lighter this time, and Aizen felt a little better too. "Well... it was nice while it lasted, right?" Gin added, lazing against his lover and gazing up at the sky. The sun was almost down. Soon the moon and stars would come out. Nobody wanted to move. It was such a nice night; why waste it by going inside?
Carpe Diem. Seize the day. Or rather, Carpe Noctem. Seize the night.
"Very right." Aizen answered. Turning his gaze heavenward too. They'd probably fall asleep out here, gazing at the stars. It wouldn't be the first time.
"It's a nice night, huh?" He said, letting his body rest against Gin's as they sat together on the grass.
"Yeh," Gin answered. "This's nice. We should definitely make the most of it."
"Yes," Aizen echoed, kissing his Gin gently. Taking in the taste of him. It would be a while before he be able to again. "We should."
