"Wow...so did you know that the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa were discovered by accident?!"
Kagome looked at Ayumi with a brow raised, "as are most of the world's most amazing discoveries. Accidents that made someone famous. Most humans will lie about it if asked how they found their discovery. If on accident, a large number of people will claim to have been looking for it, a lifelong dream of theirs...perhaps..."
"...what was your reason for searching out these amazing artifacts around the world. You found that Hiraikotsu...made out of the bone of some kind of extinct animal...that was astounding. Even the name, how you discovered the name of the weapon, or where it came from in its almost new condition..."
Kagome glared at Ayumi. The girl was digging, and they weren't even at the excavation site yet. "Yes...I was extremely lucky."
"You know...no one can get a read on the type of bone that boomerang is made up of."
Kagome nodded as if she were interested, though quite the contrary. She knew there would be no DNA matches, if anything it would just look human...possibly.
"We here...and it looks as though we aren't the only ones...what's going on here?"
Kagome glanced out the window of the RV as they pulled up a few yards away from the Entrance to the Catacombs. A large group of red heads stood outside the catacombs of the tomb, seemingly getting their picture taken. It wasn't too strange to see such things as tours and such, however, being that today the Catacomb would be placed under restriction for excavation...nobody should be there right now. "Did we not let the tour guides know about the excavation?"
Hojo frowned, "I did...actually. What are they wearing?! It's a hundred and eight out." He looked at the temperature on the RV and shook his head.
"I'm going to head inside, go ahead and talk to the...people..." Kagome told Ayumi and Hojo, watching as Hojo turned off the engine of the RV before climbing out. Opening the door for Kagome, he held his hand out and smiled as Kagome sighed but accepted his hand all the same. "No..."
Hojo smiled, "I won't quit trying."
"I know," Kagome laughed, "I'm going to check the layout, I have a drawn up draft of the underground layout already."
"Right."
Ayumi rolled her eyes, "of course you do. I'll go deal with the Brady Bunch."
Kagome watched Ayumi leave in a huff, "go with her?"
"Right."
Hojo ran after Ayumi and Kagome left the RV, not bothering with the map as she entered the Catacombs of Kom el Shuqafa. The layout was pretty simple once you've traveled through the underground tomb before. Making her way through the first potion of the building she didn't pay any attention to the fact that someone was following her. Nor did she hear the billowing of fabric from behind lingering in the shadows of the Catacomb.
Following the shaft and stairs down for what felt like forever, five floors down, she stepped out into the Rotunda that led to the stairs to the main tomb of Kom el Shuqafa...or more specifically, the hidden tomb of Midoriko...since that was where her not so departed soul still lingered.
Following the shadows down the passage, she climbed up the twelve or so steps, stopping in front of the archway to the Main Tomb. The wall in front of her was a passageway that she had spent hours trying to figure out the first time she'd toured the underground resting place. Stepping up to the stone wall, Kagome heard a hushed voice from behind her and turned in time to see a bright light flash towards her. Bringing her hand up quickly enough, a pink barrier formed around her. Leaning back against the wall, she pushed a stone in and watched as the wall moved grindingly against the stone floor. The boy...no, the man, in front of her stared in slight surprise. Lowering whatever it was that lay in his hand to his side as he lifted his empty hand in surrender.
"Sorry 'bout that. Wasn't aware tha' you were a witch."
Kagome tilted her head I confusion, lowering her own hand as the wall came to a complete stop finally. "...I'm afraid you were right in your original assumption."
His eyes widened as a pink glow surrounded him and unconsciousness followed surely after.
Walking up to him, Kagome looked to the piece of wood held listlessly in his hand. "...?" Picking the wand up, she pocketed the seemingly harmless stick before walking towards the Shikon Jewel which lay atop the tomb of Kom el Shuqafa. "Midoriko..."
The transparent Midoriko appeared before Kagome who gave a relieved sigh as she walked forward and took the Shikon in her hand.
"Kagome...it has been awhile. I'm happy to see you."
Nodding, Kagome looked towards the young man on the ground.
"I will take care of him,"
"Thank you." She watched him vanish before her sight only a few seconds before footsteps could be heard rounding the corner. Quick to pocket the jewel as her excavation team rounded the corner with Hojo and Ayumi leading them.
Midoriko vanished before anyone saw her, and Kagome returned to her role as an archeologist, searching for the mysterious glow of Kom el Shuqafa.
'Not that it really matters, they can search the Catacombs until their black and blue...they'll never find the Shikon...'
