"I had a brother who I loved de-arly, who watched me with such love,"

Scatterpaw paused as she heard the singing. It was sweet and high but it was hard to distinguish the voice.

"I vowed to protect him wi-ith my life, the eagle and the dove."

Oh, of course, Dovesong. Singing was a rare talent in the Clan that only a few cats had mastered, with Dovesong being the best of all of them. She'd heard some stories about her brother Eagleheart, but no one seemed to talk about him often.

"We stayed together, he never left me, We played together, bonding so easily."

Seemed like he was a better brother than Rockpaw. She winced, the scar still aching.

"But then one day you had to go out without me, vowing to find me the saving delicacy,"

Scatterpaw had heard about when Dovesong was dangerously ill with greencough.

"That was the day you promised no goodbyes,"

Her voice was filling with emotion

"That was the day you never again came across my eyes."

It took a second for Scatterpaw to realise what she meant.

"That was the day you never came back, and that was the day my world went black."

She hadn't ever thought that there would be a tiny, sad soul inside the so positive Dovesong.

"They never found you, all traces all gone,"

She'd heard that before

"I was left here without you, my beloved one."

Scatterpaw was overwhelmed by the grief in her voice.

"They said it was a miracle that I recovered, but it was only pretense for you my beloved."

Scatterpaw pricked her ears.

"It is eating inside, I will not survive."

The apprentice began to debate if she should fetch a warrior or two

"But I know you love this place right here, so this is where I'll sing my last song for you to hear,"

No, Dovesong had made her decision, these were the last moments she would enjoy.

"We were one not two,"

Scatterpaw could hear her voice thinning, still brimming with emotion

"I would die for you..."
