Prompt - Abracadabra

Abracadabra

Pairing: Muggle!AU. Dean/Harry

"Abracadabra!" Dean preened as he tapped against a box that was covered with a tablecloth. With a flourish, he pulled the tablecloth off and nothing. Nothing happened. There was nothing to show for Dean's grandstanding.

Harry winced, but he still uncertainly clapped, trying to indulge his boyfriend and show his support all at the same time.

Dean glared at him. "Why are you clapping? Nothing happened!"

"Well, you still have a good stage presence." Harry tried his best smile, hoping to soften Dean a bit.

"Don't patronize me," Dean grumbled, staring hard at the pale blue tablecloth as if it offended him because the trick didn't work.

Harry stood up. "I'm not being patronizing. I'm supporting you. There's a difference."

"How about you try being honest."

Harry took a deep breath, trying his best to not get angry. After all, Dean was disappointed about the trick not going as planned. "Okay, you want my honesty? Fine. I don't think magic is your thing. I'm not even sure why you're trying to do it when you have your art, which is so great. I think you should focus on your art and just forget about magic."

Dean blinked. "We went to that professional magic show, and you were so awestruck by the magician. I wanted to put that look of wonder on your face."

Harry felt inexplicitly touched by Dean's admission. "Dean, I have that same look of wonder when you show me a finished drawing. You don't need to do magic to impress me."

Dean smiled. "You haven't seemed that amazed lately. I guess I was worried you were losing interest."

Harry walked over to him and took Dean's hand. "I'm sorry. I've been distracted because of stuff that has been going on at work. I'm always amazed by you, though. And I'll make sure to show you that more. That way, you don't forget."

Dean leaned forward and pressed his lips against Harry's in a soft kiss. Against his lips, Dean mumbled, "I hate magic."

Harry knew what to say next. "I hate magic too."
