Note: The following is a rough outline of what was to happen in this chapter. I apologise for not being able to write the full chapter as intended, however, life has proven hectic and along with my plans to start writing original stories, I don't have the time needed to finish all my stories. I didn't want to leave them abandoned, so I decided to give a rough outline of the story's events so that you could see how it would have progressed and ended. I hope that you understand. Maybe one day I might come back and fully finish them as intended, but as that's up in the air, I thought that I'd end things this way rather than leave unfinished. Thank you for your time.
Chapter 3 (Rough Outline)
With the school going under refurbishment after the attack from the Mallory, the newly chosen Power Rangers were excited and eager to begin their training…admittedly to varying degrees.
Zoe was more than ready for the challenge. The thrill of something exciting happening in her life and doing something worthwhile encouraged her to put her all into her training. Ironically, it was at a time when the school wasn't even open when she would be early to arrive. Evading the construction crew, she slipped inside and found the room that led her to the underground command base. Her excitement was only matched by Richard's, who couldn't wait to put his new powers to the test against more monsters. While Christopher and Lucy showed a bit more apprehension and concern over the situation, they couldn't deny the glee bubbling inside of them as they felt like they were part of something special.
As for Alyson, she was just happy to hang out with new friends.
That's when it suddenly dawned on the five teens. Other than the Tucker siblings, and Alyson's friendship with Lucy, they didn't really know each other. They stayed silent as they waited for David Manahan to arrive, unsure of what to say. After some quick and awkward exchanges in an attempt to break the ice, David finally joins them.
He warns that before he can begin their training, he must explain what it means to be a Power Ranger.
''I need not tell you how immense the universe. It is ever-expanding, and an incredible power surges throughout the infinite lightyears. That power is The Morphing Grid. History is filled with those who have tried to harness the power for good and evil. One of those individuals is Vritra. He believed that controlling the Morphing Grid was the same as controlling the universe.''
''You said you and your allies sealed him away,'' Zoe inquires. ''Were you Power Rangers too?''
''No, we were mealy explorers curious to understand the secrets of the Morphing Grid. Not for personal gain. We joined the fight against Vritra when we discovered his true intentions. We lost so much trying to stop him.''
Christopher raises his hand. ''What is the connection between our powers and this Morphing Grid you speak of?''
''That is exactly what it is, a connection. We designed this Morphers to harness the grid's power. We believed that it would be the only way to repel Vritra's overwhelming power should he return. I am now glad we followed through. Many were understandably concerned with creating devices that could hold such power.''
''The power of the universe?'' Alyson gasped. ''That's like a lot, right?''
David nodded. ''As I said, you've already bonded with the powers. Right now, in your human form, you have only a fraction of the strength you would have when morphed. Once properly trained, you may even learn to fight the Mallory without the need for morphing. However, I doubt I can say the same for the other monsters that serve under Vritra. I suspect that there are those still loyal to him. While he may not be able to breach Earth's barrier, the Mallory attack proves that Earth is not completely impervious.''
Rubbing his hands gleefully, Richard can hardly contain his joy. ''We're about to become superheroes.''
''Are we sure about this?'' Lucy gulped, blushing a deep shade of red as everyone turned to her. ''I mean…I know we managed to morph once before, but what if there's a limit? Or, our bodies can't cope with the stress? Or…''
''If you have any doubts regarding your bond with the Morphing Grid, take note of your clothing,'' David said.
The teens stare down at themselves and realise that the colours of their clothing match the colour of their respective Power Ranger suit. They didn't think about what colour shirts they wanted, they were just drawn to them.
With their doubts quelled, for now, David declares that training has begun.
Upon the moon, Vritra has firmly established his new base as he gazes down on the Earth. He slouched on his makeshift throne, with Merodark standing by his side and detailing to his master everything he knows about the Power Rangers. However, Vritra shows little interest in what the Power Rangers are, as he considers them nothing more than obstacles that need to be removed. He orders Merodark to go down to Earth with a squadron of Mallory and draw them out of hiding.
Merodark and a dozen of his minions land on the planet's surface. For a brief moment, he stares amusedly at the primitive landscape and then appreciates the beauty of Earth's unusual nature.
''It almost reminds me of home.'' He comments before setting his sights on the closest city.
The command base's hologram is alerted to the attack. Eagerly, the Rangers set out to defend the city, using the teleporting devices in the Morphers. Just as they leave, David looks into a more detailed part of the hologram and realises that Merodark is leading the charge. He uses a communicator to warn the Rangers about the dark swordmaster and tells them to morph immediately.
They land near the Mallory and prepare to move. However, Merodark immediately strikes, not allowing them to morph. With their increased strength and speed, they are able to evade Merodark's attacks long enough to find the time needed to finally morph. While they can make easy work of the Mallory, they have a more difficult time with Merodark. In a one on one fight, he can easily defeat them. But, the swordmaster is overpowered when the group start working together.
Just as it seems like the Rangers finally have the upper-hand, Merodark uses a new technique that he has been working on. Using his sword on himself, his body becomes alight with amazing, dark energy and before the Rangers can question what is happening, Merodark's body grows until he reaches the height of the skyscrapers around them.
''David,'' Zoe whimpers as she and the Rangers watch Merodark bring his giant sword down on them. ''We have a big problem.''
