Hey guys so since I got such great feedback from the last chapter, (seriously last chapter had the most reviews out of every chapter this story has had so far so thank you guys so much!) I decided to update early. Also, I'm really looking forward to getting to the end of case 4 for a reason pyrosaurus X knows (;)) and because I cannot wait to get to JFA because I get to write one of the best romance scenes ever in case 4, even though I know I will absolutely HATE writing case 3 (MOE YOU DANG CLOWN!). Anyways, thanks to leviathan254 (I know how you feel, I'm looking forward to those too. I'm just really looking forward to AJ because I'm bringing in a brand new character and I get to almost completely rewrite Jasmine's personality. That's gonna be really fun!), Guest (I'll see what I can do but I've got too many stories now to start a new one. But I will check it out when I have time.), The Forgotten Reader (Your review honestly meant a lot to me. I mean, I understand why you didn't like this story at first but I'm glad you came back and found you like it! And I really wanted to highlight the bond Jasmine and Edgeworth simply because I don't feel you can fall in love if you don't share a strong connection. It's more realistic anyways, in my opinion.), pyrosaurus X (I know how you feel with those third cases, though I disagree with AJ. But TT's simply annoyed me only because I wasn't Atemy's biggest fan and how difficult it was to clear Ron. Thanks for the compliments and I'll keep that all in mind), basecannon (She'll actually be more like Mia. She'll be the mother/mentor figure to Apollo, which is one reason I am looking forward to that game), brellaindigo (Neither can I, trust me), NostalgiaMaster1996 (Yes, I am doing Rise From the Ashes cause I see it as canon. Also, I see it as a key point for both Nick and Jazz so I kind of need it. And I completely agree with you on von Karma, though he more scared me when I first heard his objection than anything else), JackunzelForever (True but the judge doesn't know Franziska yet. I'm strangely excited to write her relationship with Jasmine since, with the end of this story at DD case 5, (SPOILER STOP IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!) Jasmine will be engaged to Edgeworth. (ALL CLEAR!), ZQ and Leiya Nez for reviewing/following/favoring along with all 4,589 readers! Whew, that's a lot! Okay, now I just have to apologize for the slightly shorter chapter, considering Jasmine's locked up for some of it. But, despite that, I hope you enjoy!
I'm not sure how long I sat in the Detention Center. I was just there, waiting for Nick. Of course, I spent some time writing, specifically on Maya's song lyrics since I owe her them. Besides, I knew if she heard them, she'd feel better. She's like a sister to me, after all. I can't have her feeling so down and depressed. If anything, that's Nick's job! Gumshoe came by often to talk to me while I waited for Nick, or questioning whichever came first. He told me how brave he thought Maya and I were, he even said Miles looked impressed. I'm not even sure what to think, I don't even know why Maya and I did it. All I knew was…I couldn't let von Karma bury the truth again. He's probably put as many innocent people in jail as he has guilty. I wanted to stop him before it went too far. Maybe…it was a way for my conscious to make up for the mistakes I made in the past.

"Nick, you're here!" Jasmine grinned as she saw her older brother sitting across from her.
"Hey Jazz." Phoenix smiled as his twin sat down. "How are you?" Jasmine shrugged.
"I'm okay. I haven't been into questioning yet, but Gumshoe says they'll let me out once they're done, and the bail's paid of course. You better prepare, Nick!" Jasmine answered, smirking at her tease at the end. Phoenix sighed, though he was smiling slightly. They were silent for a minute before Phoenix asked,
"What about your…memories?"
"…..The details are getting clearer, but…I still don't know who the murderer is." Jasmine sighed, hanging her head. "I'm really sorry, Nick. I really wanted to help you and Miles but I just…can't remember, no matter how much I want to."
"It's okay." Phoenix assured.
"No, Nick, it's not!" Jasmine cried as she looked at her brother, showing the tears in her eyes. "I haven't done anything useful with my memories since I got them. All I got was a damn huge load of fear of von Karma and an even stronger fear of earthquakes! I can barely do anything right anymore for Christ's sake! How am I supposed to be a good aide if I can't even do anything right outside of the court?!"
"Jasmine, stop!" Phoenix cried, shutting his sister up. "You are not useless, do you understand? You have been an amazing help with our investigations and an even bigger help in everything else! For Pete's sake, you're the one who calmed Edgeworth down after the earthquake, even if I don't know how! You are incredible so stop doubting yourself because you are Jasmine Wright and you are one of the most amazing people I know." Jasmine blinked several times before she grinned and started crying tears of happiness.
"I wish I could hug you." She admitted as she wiped her tears.
"Wait until I bail you and Maya out for that." Phoenix smiled. Jasmine nodded several times before she watched her brother stand up. "I'll be back later for you and Maya, okay? Hang in there until then." He said.
"You got it!" Jasmine agreed with a smile before she went back to the Detention Center.
Nick's one of the few people in life to ever see me so…broken. I usually hide when I'm broken so no one can see it, but Nick can see right through me each and every time. Mia had the same gift, as did Miles. Maya was still learning it but she was still good at reading me. All of them were and that just proves how close I was to them.

Jasmine grinned as she saw Phoenix and Maya in front of her.
"Hey, Nick, Maya." She smiled as she sat down. "Everything's all good so we can head out now."
"Were the interrogators mean to you too?" Maya asked, her arms crossed and her cheeks puffed out in annoyance. Jasmine rolled her eyes.
"They asked me if I was going to make a habit of this or if I was framed. Trying to make a joke out of being arrested, who the hell does that?" She said in annoyance.
"Looks like the police aren't either of your biggest fans." Phoenix quipped.
"Nick!" The girls shouted before Maya hit Phoenix on the back of the head for Jasmine, which caused the younger Wright to laugh.
"Go Maya!" She cheered. "By the way, thanks for the bail, Nick."
"Don't thank me. Thank Edgeworth." Phoenix said.
"…..What?" Jasmine asked, her eyes wide in shock.
"Yeah, he posted bail for both of you. Said he was grateful for what you guys did." Phoenix answered.
"…..Really?" Jasmine asked before she added, "That's it, we are winning no matter what! Except by forged evidence or something like that, of course."
"Yeah!" Maya agreed, "Let's go, Nick!"
"Okay, okay, I'm coming." Phoenix sighed before Jasmine got out of her side and the three headed out.
December 26th
Gourd Lake Park
Entrance
When they reached Gourd Lake, Jasmine was grinning widely. She stopped right by the entrance and stretched her hands up to the sky and sighed.
"What're you doing?" Phoenix asked, raising an eyebrow at his sister.
"Enjoying the sunlight since I've been cooped up from being in court to being in detention. I am just happy to be somewhere else now." Jasmine answered with a wide smile.
"There aren't many cops around today, are there?" Maya asked as she looked around.
"They're probably back at the precinct, working up the case against Edgeworth." Phoenix theorized. The three started to think and Maya looked as if she was going to say something when a voice interjected,
"Hey y'all!"
"Hey it's Lotta!" Maya smiled as she saw the photographer.
"How are you?" Jasmine asked, smiling as well. She had heard through her bond, or telepathy if you want to call it that, with her brother that Lotta was actually a photographer trying to find Gourdy.
"I'm alright. Y'all really did it today…" Lotta said.
"Wh-what did we do now?" Phoenix asked nervously.
"Naw, I'm not complaining!" Lotta grinned, "See, I did a little thinking. A little…self-reflection, you might say. I realized that bein' a witness is a mighty big responsibility. But I just went up there and started blabbing any old thing that came to mind."
"Lotta…" Phoenix said as Jasmine looked down, guilty. She was a witness to DL-6, and yet only Phoenix, Maya and Grossberg knew. Not even Edgeworth, the key player in that case, knew that she was the hidden witness.
"So, you see, I want to make it up to y'all." Lotta continued.
"'Make it up'…?" Phoenix repeated, confused. Maya looked at Jasmine but the aide was still lost in her guilt. Jasmine didn't even notice when she blacked out entirely.
Jasmine sat on the playground, writing. Suddenly, her notepad was grabbed out of her hands. The girl looked up and saw a boy from an older class was holding above her head.
"Try and get it!" He mocked as she jumped up, trying to grab her notepad.
"Give it back!" She cried, her soft voice louder than normal.
"…I don't want to. Sorry." The boy said, though he sounded anything but sorry.
"Give it! It's mine!" Jasmine cried, close to tears at this point.
"Aw, is little baby Wright gonna start crying?" The boy mocked, "Too bad."
"Give her back her notepad." A voice suddenly said, calmly. The two looked up as none other than Miles Edgeworth stepped forward.
"Oh yeah? And who's gonna make me?" The boy asked.
"She isn't alone." Another voice said. Jasmine turned and watched as her twin, Phoenix Wright, walked from her right, the bully's left.
"And we'll make you." A third voice finished. Jasmine looked to her left and watched as Larry Butz stepped forward.
"Now, give her back her notepad." Phoenix all but growled.
"And how will three little boys hurt me?" The bully mocked before he started laughing. Phoenix ran forward and tackled the boy, knocking him down. Miles grabbed the notepad and ran to Jasmine's side. Larry kicked the bully for extra measure, saying,
"That's for making a pretty girl like Jazz cry." With that, the three boys led the girl away from the bully.
"Why…did you help me?" Jasmine asked softly, looking down. Even though the three were now friends, Jasmine still felt shy around them, even after two weeks.
"You're my sister and they're our friends. Why wouldn't we help you, sis?" Phoenix asked.
"You, I expected but…nobody has ever helped my brother…stand up for me." Jasmine explained. She looked down before she met Miles' gaze head on and whispered, "Thank you." Miles smiled slightly and nodded in return.
"Aw, no need to thank us Jazz." Larry grinned, "Unless…you want to pay me back?" Confused, Jasmine tilted her head to the side and asked,
"How?"
"By giving me a kiss! All the princesses kiss the hero after he saves her!" Larry insisted. Jasmine stuck her tongue out and dodged Larry as he lunged at her. Phoenix simply laughed as he watched Larry chase his sister around until Jasmine hid behind a chuckling Miles. That, turned Larry's chase into a tease. "Aw, look Nick! Jazz's in love with Edgey! That means they'll be married someday and you two will be brothers!"
"Larry!" Jasmine cried before she covered her mouth in shock. She had never spoken that loud before.
"You don't have to be shy, Jasmine. We will like you no matter what you do." Miles assured. Jasmine met the boy's gray eyes, smiled and ran after Larry, hitting him with her notepad and yelling how he was 'a disgusting, icky boy with a disgusting and icky mind', much to the delight of her brother and friend, who stood back and laughed at Larry's whimpers of pain.
Jasmine would later learn that Larry was exactly what she described him as years ago.
"JAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! CAN YOU HEAR ME?" Maya's voice brought Jasmine back to the ear shattering reality. "Finally! How many times are you gonna black out on us?!"
"Sorry…I'm just dealing with a lot right now." Jasmine admitted as she rubbed the side of her head to try and stop the ringing in her ear. "What did I miss?"
"We're gonna hunt Gourdy to help Mr. Edgeworth!" Maya grinned.
"How is Gourdy gonna help Miles?" Jasmine asked, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow.
"Easy! We find something out about Gourdy and Lotta gives us some information for the case!" Maya grinned, "See? Simple, easy, 1, 2, 3!" Jasmine chuckled as they continued walking.
December 26th
Gourd Lake
Public Beach
"Wh-what's that?" Phoenix asked as the trio reached the beach. Jasmine and Maya's eyes widened when the saw the giant, blown up Steel Samurai.
"Th-the Steel Samurai, Nick." Maya answered, still in shock.
"That's…wow." Jasmine said, not sure what to say.
"Yo! Maya!" Larry greeted as he joined the three, not dressed as Santa but in his usual orange jacket and graphic t-shirt.
"Larry! What the heck is this!?" Phoenix cried, gesturing to the balloon.
"Oh, it was my girl Kiyance's idea…She was all "if you like, put this here, it would be, like, really cool!" Dude, she gave it to me along with the banner!" Larry explained happily.
"Wow! That's real impressive she could find those for you!" Maya exclaimed happily, clasping her hands in front of her.
"Well, she knows a lot of people." Larry said, "And that show's finished now, so she got 'em for free."
"Right…" Phoenix said when he saw how out of it Jasmine seemed. Not wanting her to lose another ear drum from Maya's screaming, he nudged her, snapping her out of whatever black out she was going into.
Thank you…Phoenix heard in his head and nodded in response.
"Yo, Nick, Jazz! What happened with Edgeworth?" Larry asked, worried.
"Well, we made it through the first day in court alright…I don't know how good our prospects are from here on, though." Phoenix said sadly.
"Huh." Was all Larry could say.
"Nick! What're you doing? A lawyer is someone who smiles, no matter what! Smile!" Jasmine cried angrily before she turned away from her brother, huffing. Did he even listen to Mia?
"Hey, Larry, did you know Edgeworth's secret weakness? He's terrified of earthquakes! He acts like a little boy!" Maya said.
"Maya, you shouldn't be smiling about that, especially when someone else who has a fear of earthquakes is right here." Jasmine lightly scolded.
"Oops, sorry Jazz." Maya shrugged as she linked arms with the older girl, getting a smile from Jasmine.
"Huh?" Larry asked, "That's weird. I don't think he was like that in school. Jazz, on the other hand, just showed up one day and freaked out when a small earthquake struck."
"Hey!" Jasmine cried irritated.
"No? Really?" Maya, ignoring Jasmine and Larry's last comment, asked.
"Well, the four of us were only in the same class for a year." Larry said, smiling widely again. "He transferred schools pretty quickly."
"Transferred?" Maya asked.
"Yeah…I thought he left because of something I did back then. Silly, huh?" Jasmine said.
"He didn't move because of you! Mr. Edgeworth really likes you, Jazz!" Maya insisted, though Jasmine knew Maya spoke as friends.
"Thanks Maya." Jasmine smiled.
"Who knows, maybe Edgey still has a crush on you Jazz." Larry smirked.
"Please, Larry. If anyone could possibly have a crush on me after 15 years, it would be you." Jasmine scoffed, rolling her eyes. Larry had chased her, literally, every day since they first became friends. Edgeworth had been her escape and Jasmine always proceeded to hit Larry, once she became more confident that is. Jasmine simply tuned out of the conversation for a while, instead focusing on her new memories. She needed to figure out who the real murderer was, otherwise she would feel terrible and she just knew Edgeworth would admit to the crime. If they could clear him of this murder, than Jasmine knew von Karma was expecting Edgeworth to crack over DL-6. Please God…help me remember.
As Phoenix and Maya went back to Gourd Lake after getting a metal detector from Gumshoe, with the other options being an adorable dog named Missile and a fishing pole, Jasmine went to the Detention Center, needing to talk to Edgeworth. Only he could help her.
"Miles." Jasmine greeted when he sat down.
"Jasmine. What are you doing here?" Edgeworth asked.
"First, I wanted to say thanks for bailing Maya and I out, it means a lot." Jasmine smiled. Edgeworth turned away, embarrassed which Jasmine giggled lightly about.
"It was nothing special. Just a thank you for getting the trial to hold on a little longer." Edgeworth stated. Jasmine sighed, hanging her head before she looked straight up at Edgeworth, trying to catch his eye.
"Miles…what's happened to us?" She asked. Edgeworth turned to her, confused. "We…we used to be the best of friends, it was always you and me while Nick and Larry were somewhere else. While they played, we sat together and read. When Larry chased me, I hid behind you because I knew he would stop if I did. If I was too quiet for someone to hear, they would always send you, not Nick, to get me to speak up. But now…now we can barely speak to each other. Hell, the last time I saw you and actually talked to you before Mia's case was when you were obsessed with perfection and the 'von Karma way'. Heck, you didn't even trust Gumshoe as much as you do now. And then…I watched that God awful trial with…her as a witness and you saw what happened. Even then I couldn't even work up the nerve to talk to you. Nick could though but you didn't answer any of his calls or letters. I almost lost hope on you, hope that the Miles Edgeworth I knew was still alive. But…then Nick told me how he planned to become a defense attorney so you would be forced to meet him and I…I jumped on it right away by studying to become a legal aide even harder. I just needed to know if you were still there, Miles. When Mia's trial ended, I thought you were lost but I forced myself to not give up. Then the Steel Samurai case came and you…you helped us. You weren't the perfection obsessed prosecutor I met four years ago but the boy who defended my brother when he was being wrongly accused of being a thief, the boy who was my best friend. That case gave me more hope than you could ever realize but now, seeing you like this, I'm talking to you and you won't even talk to me like you used to. It…it breaks my heart, Miles. And I can only hide it for so long."
"Jasmine…" Edgeworth whispered, reaching a hand towards the glass separating them. In that moment, Edgeworth never wished for the glass to disappear more than ever. He wanted to comfort her, to show her he cared for her, though he couldn't actually say it.
Jasmine wiped the tears that had started to fall from her eyes on her dark purple leather jacket and quietly apologized for her behavior. She shouldn't be acting like this, she was an adult for Christ's sake! But she couldn't help the want for him to understand the pain she felt, the pain she had always felt with him around. Ever since that day 4 years ago when she accidentally ran into him in the court, she had felt as if something was constantly stabbing at her heart. Though she had been able to hide it behind a smile, that mask she wore was now breaking with her new memories being added to the mix. This was all too much for her to handle, but she knew she had to face it. And she knew if she was strong enough, she would come out on top, stronger than ever. But if that involved Edgeworth or not was the main question.
"I'm sorry." Edgeworth suddenly whispered, "For everything I've ever put you through."
"Don't be." Jasmine objected, "I mean, yes, it hurts knowing we can't even act like friends but…if I had never gone through what I had, if I had never faced that perfection obsessed Miles all those years ago, I wouldn't be who I am today. Besides, you've changed too and even though you aren't the same Miles I knew as a kid, you're still not the Miles that I knew 4 years ago. Now, I believe you're a Miles he would be proud of." Edgeworth looked down at that.
"He told me about you. My father, I mean." He said, "He never mentioned your name, of course, but he told me how a little girl my age helped him with an investigation once, despite his protests. He told me how shy she was and yet she was still the bravest little girl he had ever met. He had laughed when he told me how she used to play around with his assistant and would visit him often at his office to see if she could help with anything. When I told my father that one of my new friends was named Jasmine Wright, he had smiled and told me he thought we were a good match." Jasmine's cheeks tinted pink at that. "He said he was happy I could become friends with a girl so special…and never once did I disagree with him."
"Not even when von Karma 'possessed' you?" Jasmine asked, putting air quotes around 'possessed'. Edgeworth chuckled,
"No, not even then. You've always held a special place in my heart, Jasmine, even if I don't show it."
"You've always had a special place in my heart too, Miles." Jasmine said softly, "Even before we met, I thought you were special. I mean, you were always standing up for people when they were bullied, you could do almost everything, except origami," She giggled as he glared at her for that one. "and you were never afraid to be yourself, which is something I was afraid of. I mean, I could play the violin at 9, what kind of kid does that?"
"A prodigy." Edgeworth answered. Jasmine's cheeks tinted pink again at his praise and she told him to stop. "Would you play something for me?" He requested.
"Um, would that be alright?" Jasmine asked the guard.
"Sure, I'd like to hear you anyways." The guard agreed. Jasmine took several deep breaths as she took out her violin.
"What would you like me to play?" She asked.
"Your song." Edgeworth answered. Jasmine smiled softly, knowing he was referring to her theme, which had never changed since she was a child. It was her first song, after all. She just wrote the lyrics recently though so they were still new. She began to play the song and soon started to sing.
"Even though I'm young,
I will find the truth.
I follow my heart wherever it takes me.
I will never leave, don't you worry,
I won't give up on you ever.
I won't stop, no I won't give up you'll see
There is a light at the end waiting.
Those I care for will always be with me,
I refuse to look back and have doubts again.
There is hope for me.
No time to wait, let's go,
We've got nothing to lose.
No time to wait, let's go,
We've got people to help.
I'm by your side.
Don't worry, I'll always be here.
Whether to help or lead the way.
Don't doubt me cause I'll prove my worth.
I never gave up on you so don't you give up on me.
The truth is waiting, let's go find it,
And help the people who really need it.
I will do the very best I can.
I'll never leave you, so don't you leave me.
Don't give up, I'll help.
This isn't over yet.
There's still contradictions to find.
This isn't over yet.
I'm not leaving til it is.
Don't you give in.
We are friends and family.
I trust you, so you trust me.
This isn't over til the truth reveals.
I'll never stop until I know it.
Are you with me, like I am with you?
Because to me you are family."
Jasmine looked up as the last note faded, waiting for Edgeworth's reaction. When he smiled, a small smile but a smile nonetheless, she grinned.
"Did you like it?" She asked.
"It suits you perfectly." Edgeworth commented. Jasmine's smile widened if that was even possible when her phone rang, ruining the moment. Sighing, Jasmine took out her phone, her eyes showing her apology.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Jazz, get to the precinct, now." Phoenix stated instantly.
"Um, why?" She asked, confused.
"We found the new witness but here's the weird thing. His parrot said…what was it, Maya? Ah, right, 'remember DL-6'." Phoenix explained.
"What!?" Jasmine cried, shocked.
"Yeah, so we're going to get all the information on DL-6. You mind coming to fill in any holes or to learn more?" Phoenix said.
"I am on my way right now." Jasmine said. Once she hung up, she packed away her violin and apologized, "I'm sorry, Miles, but I need to investigate something for the case."
"DL-6, correct?" Edgeworth asked. Jasmine froze for a minute as the memories flashed across her mind once again and she had to blink several times to escape them.
"Uh, y-yeah, that." Jasmine nodded, "I-I'll see you l-later." With that, Jasmine left, leaving a perplexed Miles Edgeworth behind.
December 26th
Police Department
Criminal Affairs
Jasmine met up with Phoenix and Maya just outside the precinct and the trio walked in together.
"Hey, pal! Long time no see!" Gumshoe greeted as they walked in. "…You don't look so happy. What's wrong this time?"
"Actually, we wanted to ask you something…" Phoenix said.
"Yeah?" Gumshoe prompted.
"You know the boat rental shop down at Gourd Lake?" Phoenix asked.
"Oh, yeah…" Gumshoe said.
"The old man who runs it is appearing as a witness in court tomorrow, right?" The older twin finished.
"He's the one that called the cops!" Jasmine added, the pieces clicking in her mind.
"Huh…!? How'd you-Hmm. That was supposed to be top secret." Gumshoe said, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly before he looked away.
"Do you know who that old man is, Detective?" Maya asked.
"…Actually…I don't." Gumshoe admitted, "He's a bit of an odd bird…I haven't been able to get a straight answer out of him. I decided first he wasn't persuasive enough to stand and testify as a witness. That's why we called Ms. Lotta Hart yesterday."
"Makes sense, considering he called Nick and Maya 'Keith' and 'Meg'." Jasmine agreed.
"How did you-?" Maya asked.
"It's a twin thing." The twins answered in unison.
"Whoa…" Maya whispered in shock.
"As for who he is…We have absolutely no idea." Gumshoe continued.
"Hmm…sounds suspicious!" Maya stated. Jasmine nodded in agreement. Gumshoe simply hummed in agreement.
"Detective Gumshoe, please, help us…" Phoenix said.
"H-huh!?" Gumshoe stuttered.
"We need to know about the DL-6 Incident!" Phoenix said. Instinctively, Jasmine winced and ended up having Maya catch and steady her. "That was when Edgeworth's father died. I can't help but think that it has something to do with this current case."
"…To tell the truth, I don't know much about DL-6 either." Gumshoe admitted, "Mr. Edgeworth forbade us from reading the file."
"I can see why…it must hurt him more than it hurts me to live with these memories." Jasmine said.
"What memories?" Gumshoe asked.
"Of DL-6. I was there, but I'm afraid I can't be helpful with it." Jasmine admitted as she looked down, her hair hiding her eyes.
"…So…I'm afraid I can't show them to you either, pal. The files, I mean." Gumshoe said, not knowing how to respond to Jasmine's admission.
"What!?" Maya cried.
"But…if you can convince me somehow that the DL-6 Incident is related to this case…Well, I guess I'd consider opening the file up." Gumshoe said. Phoenix instantly reached into his pocket and took out a picture. "What's that? A parrot?" Gumshoe asked.
"The old man at the boat rental shop's parrot." Phoenix nodded, "The parrot knew about that 'incident'…"
"That incident?" Gumshoe asked, confused.
"DL-6." Phoenix clarified.
"Wh-what!?" Gumshoe cried, shocked.
"Polly! Polly! Have we forgotten something!?"
"Don't forget DL-6!"
"H-huh!?"
"I'm pretty sure the old man must have taught her that word…" Phoenix said after he explained the conversation between Maya and the parrot, Polly.
"Yeah, but how would that old man know about the DL-6 Incident?" Gumshoe asked.
"Wait! What if…What if that old man was connected to DL-6?" Jasmine suggested, "It's the only logical conclusion, after all."
"J-Jazz! You think he might be!?" Maya cried.
"…I get ya. Sounds like you need information on the DL-6 Incident." Gumshoe nodded, "Through there is the Station's Records Room. I'll give you special permission to go in and find what you need."
"Alright! Way to go, Detective Gumshoe!" Maya grinned.
"Thank you so much, Gumshoe! This will really help a lot!" Jasmine grinned as well.
"Okay, Nick! To the Record's Room!" Maya crowed as she led Phoenix and Jazz into the room by grabbing their hands eagerly.
Time to face mine and Miles' past…you can do this, Jazz. You can do this.
December 26th
Police Department
Records Room
"Wow!" Maya gasped as they reached the room Gumshoe directed them to. "It's amazing…ly dusty." As she finished speaking, Maya coughed to emphasize her point. Jasmine laughed as she wiped dust away from her to avoid coughing herself.
"Ten years of files and ten years of dust, I guess." Phoenix stated.
"Sounds like our police department." Jasmine added in agreement.
"Let's find that DL-6 stuff quick!" Maya encouraged. As the three began to look around, Jasmine's mind wandered.
15 years ago, Nick, Miles and I were 9 and in 4th grade. After DL-6, Miles suddenly transferred schools and I didn't see him until 11 years later, when we were 20…and now we've met again at 24.
"Nick! Jazz! I found out where the file is!" Maya suddenly cried, snapping the twins out of their thoughts.
"O-oh, thanks!" Phoenix smiled nervously.
"Good work, Maya!" Jasmine was much better at hiding her surprise than her brother.
"Just let me know what you want to know about the DL-6 Incident!" Maya said, "I'll go get the right file!"
"Well, first I have to get a handle on the main facts…like a summary." Phoenix said thoughtfully.
"Right." Maya nodded before she flipped through the files. "Summary…summary…found it! Here you go." Maya smiled as she handed the file over to the defense attorney. Phoenix smiled in gratitude before he looked at the file.
"December 28th…2001." He read.
"That's exactly 15 years ago from the day after tomorrow!" Maya said.
"And on that day, this case is permanently closed." Jasmine added.
"The incident took place in the elevator of the district court." Phoenix continued reading.
"What!?" Maya cried as Jasmine nodded in confirmation. "Is this the same district court where we're holding the trial now!?"
"Yep, it was." Jasmine nodded, her eyes closed as she remembered.
"There was a large earthquake at 2:00 PM on that day." Phoenix read, "Part of the court building collapsed, and all of the lights went out." Jasmine's eyes snapped open as the memories became too real.
"Wow…that was some earthquake!" Maya commented.
"Yeah…I fell when it happened and was knocked out." Jasmine informed.
"At the same time, three people were trapped in the elevator." Phoenix continued, "It took five hours for them to be rescued…Five hours!"
"That would be scary like that, in the dark!" Maya said.
"I was unconscious the entire time…otherwise I would've been in that elevator as well." Jasmine said, trembling as the memories continued to wash over her.
"There was a lack of oxygen in the elevator, and the survivors were unconscious." Phoenix read.
"The survivors…?" Maya asked.
"One of the three in the elevator had been shot…in the heart." Phoenix explained as Jasmine's trembling began to increase.
"That was Mr. Edgeworth's father…wasn't it." Maya said.
"Yeah…Gregory Edgeworth." Jasmine nodded sadly, trying to stop her violent trembling.
"Do you have data on the victim…Edgeworth's father?" Phoenix asked Maya gently.
"Yeah, hold on…" Maya said as she began to look again. "Victim…victim…here! Found it!"
"Gregory Edgeworth, 35, defense attorney." Phoenix read, "If he were still alive, he'd be 50. He had lost that day's case in court, and got in the elevator with his son, Miles, though Miles claimed they needed to wait for his friend, he insisted she'd probably head out and was waiting for them."
"I was still inside…I saw his death…." Jasmine whispered, her trembling increasing to becoming even more violent.
"Miles…!" Maya suddenly cried as she tried to help Jasmine.
"Miles Edgeworth, of course. And his friend was none other than Jasmine Wright." Phoenix said. As her name was spoken, Jasmine whimpered.
"So he was on the elevator with his father!" Maya said as she rubbed Jasmine's back.
"From the angle of the bullet and other evidence, it could not have been a suicide…" Phoenix said.
"Mr. Edgeworth would have never committed suicide! He loved Miles too much to leave him!" Jasmine cried, though her trembling continued to worsen.
"The murder weapon, a pistol, was found in the elevator." Phoenix continued, nodding in acknowledgement of his sister's words. "The pistol had been fired two times."
Two shots…it's just like this case now!
"Got any data on the suspect in there?" Phoenix asked after a small pause.
"Hmm…that would be the guy that my mom got arrested." Maya said as she looked through the files. "Hold on…this is it." She handed the file over to Phoenix, who read it.
"The man who was arrested as a suspect in DL-6 was…Yanni Yogi? He was a clerk in the court, apparently." Phoenix said.
"So he must have been the third person in the elevator." Maya stated, "Well, then he had to have done it!"
"But…he was found innocent." Phoenix reminded her, "Thanks to his defense lawyer, Robert Hammond."
"Hammond…the victim in our case!" Maya realized.
"Right. The suspect, Mr. Yogi, was oxygen deprived…so much so he had brain damage." Phoenix reported, "He lost all memory of being in the elevator. After he was declared innocent, he disappeared."
"Hmm…where could Yogi have gone to, I wonder?" Maya wondered.
Could he possibly be that old man?
Well, now Nick and Maya are caught up on DL-6 and I have the holes filled in. But…I still can't remember who the real murderer is, no matter how hard I try. But I know neither Yogi nor Miles did it and Mr. Edgeworth wouldn't kill himself, besides the evidence proved it was no suicide. But…neither Nick nor Maya would know the impact DL-6 had on both Miles and me.
"Nick? Are we really going to take the whole thing? There's too much! We'll never get it out!" Maya complained.
"Y-you're right." Phoenix agreed, "How about we just take what we think we'll need." Maya nodded and grabbed what she thought was useful, ran it by Phoenix and packed it up. Jasmine was trembling so hard, Phoenix and Maya had to guide her back to her apartment so she could sleep that night. However, she spent most of the time tossing and turning before she could sleep.
That was all we had. Now all that's left is the trial tomorrow that will help decide Miles' fate. I wonder how that old man will do testifying or if he'll even make sense. Miles' fate is at stake here, after all.
