Hey guys, I'm back! Sorry for taking so long, I've been busy. But I'm back and if you haven't heard yet, I have exciting news! Maya's back, Trucy's confirmed, Ema's confirmed, there's at least one Gramarye centered case which means Apollo's past and possibly Thalassa, Phoenix and Maya are just as adorable as they were in the trilogy, irrational Phoenix is back, the first episode of the anime came out and we've got a prologue! Gee this has been a busy two months for Ace Attorney but I'm glad it has! Okay, so I am currently on a bus with awful wifi for the next less than 24 hours so this chapter's being written now! If you're wondering why I'm on a bus, well we're going to Disney and the bus is required, don't ask. Anyways, I'd love to thank each of you personally but since the wifi utterly sucks I can't check any of that. So, thanks to everyone who reviewed, followed favored and read my story since I last updated! Okay, I know I promised this chapter would be the start of Rise From the Ashes but I remembered I promised in between chapters and this one kind of requires being in 2016 so just imagine these all during that year. Also, unrelated, who else is excited that we have finally reached the AA timeline? I am! Okay, that's all so enjoy!
Jasmine looked up at Sunshine Coliseum as she walked towards it. She hadn't really spent much time here, never really had to, but this was a job her boss gave her and she was going to do it, no matter what.
Flashing her id, given to her by her boss, Jasmine walked past security and made her way to the stage where she was told to go. Once she entered the auditorium, she found a group of three colorful magicians practicing while another one in black yelled at them when he caught sight of her.
"Who are you?! Nobody is allowed in here!" He bellowed.
"My name is Jasmine Wright. You hired a museum sector to create a poster for you. I am the artist my supervisor sent." Jasmine explained calmly as she held out her id to the man she assumed was Magnifi Gramarye. The black wearing magician glared at the paper, as if it had done him some injustice before he 'hmphed' and turned away.
"Very well. Positions!" Instantly, the three magicians on stage took center stage and took up a specific formation. The red magician was on Jasmine's right, the yellow on her left and the blue right in front of her. Knowing Magnifi would yell at her if she didn't start drawing right away.
It was hours later when Magnifi finally allowed the troupe and the artist to have lunch. Jasmine kept her complaints to herself as she sat at a table with the troupe, who finally introduced themselves and after 15 minutes, Jasmine knew exactly what kind of people they were.
Zak was like the popular guy in high school, thinks he's all that and while he can be nice, do something to him and he'll make you regret it. He treated Jasmine like she was his best friend and she was very careful with her words; her job didn't need to be harder than it already was.
Valant was like the popular guy's best friend, always agreeing and siding with him though he could be a genuinely nice guy, he did whatever he was told to do. He treated Jasmine nicely and she would offer him a smile once in a while in return.
Thalassa was, arguably, the most genuine person in the troupe, despite the fact that Magnifi is her father as Jasmine learned. She was kind and sweet and Jasmine enjoyed talking to her.
Eventually, the boys left and Jasmine and Thalassa were left alone.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but I really admire your shows." Jasmine commented.
"How could I take that the wrong way?" Thalassa asked, amused as she watched the younger woman.
"Well, I don't want you to think I'm so fangirl." Jasmine admitted, embarrassed.
"It's alright." Thalassa chuckled, "I'm glad to have such kind fans." Jasmine smiled at that. "What was the last show you saw?"
"Um, about 14 years ago. Your last one with the troupe before you vanished, actually." Jasmine answered. "If you don't mind me asking, why did you vanish anyway?"
"Well, I fell in love with a guest performer named Jove Justice and he proposed to me." Thalassa admitted, her cheeks tinting a slight red at the fond memories.
"Aww, that's so sweet." Jasmine grinned.
"Yes, but my father didn't approve so I had to leave the troupe." Thalassa continued, "When we were married, we traveled a lot and had a son we named Apollo. We both loved him dearly, I performed all sorts of small tricks for him and Jove even brought him to his performances, including the one for the Queen of Khu'rain."
"Why weren't you there?" Jasmine asked.
"I...had some business to deal with. I regret not being there every day of my life." Thalassa answered, wiping at her eyes as she took a deep breath.
"You don't have to continue." Jasmine said.
"No, I have to." Thalassa shook her head. "My husband was caught in an arsonist's attack on the queen's residence. By the time I arrived, the country was in such turmoil over the loss of the queen that I couldn't find out anything about Jove or Apollo. I...I fear they were caught in the flames. I...I...I lost them and I regret not being there and now I can never see Jove again or see Apollo grow up or..." Thalassa broke down into tears after that. Jasmine instantly grasped the female magician's hand in her own.
"I'm so sorry, I could never understand the pain of losing your husband and child." Jasmine whispered softly.
"I pray you never do..." Thalassa managed between her tears as she slowly calmed down, removing her gloves to use them as a kind of tissue. Jasmine instantly noticed the gold band wrapped around Thalassa's left ring finger.
"If you don't mind me asking, did you remarry?" Jasmine asked slowly.
"Yes…I married Zak and we have a 6 year old daughter, Trucy." Thalassa answered, "She's not here today, but perhaps you could meet her sometime."
"I'd like that." Jasmine smiled.
I didn't get the chance to meet Trucy for a very long time because after that day, I didn't see Thalassa for several years. She vanished all over again and this time, I didn't think she was coming back.
Jasmine sat in the office, playing with her violin and her sheet music silently.
"What're you doing?" Phoenix asked.
"Trying to come up with a new song but it isn't working out." Jasmine answered, frustrated.
"I'm sure you'll think of something." Phoenix assured as he messed with his sister's hair.
"Hey! Nick, I hate it when you do that!" Jasmine cried indignantly.
"And that's why I do it." Phoenix teased before he sat down at his desk and stared at it.
"Why don't you read one of those law books?" Jasmine suggested as she continued to scribble.
"Ehhh…" Phoenix looked at the books, unsure.
"It's either that or do nothing again considering you won't take cases and I'm still too traumatized to even walk by the courtroom." Jasmine stated.
"Fine." Phoenix grumbled, sounding like a little kid again. It was minutes later when Jasmine heard a thump and turned to see her brother fast asleep. Shaking her head, the aide stood up and walked over to the desk. Gently, she lifted her brother's head and slid the book out from under it. Closing it, she returned it to its rightful spot on the dusty shelf.
"Looks like it'll only collect more dust." She muttered under her breath before she walked over to the couch and picked up a blanket there. Returning to the desk, Jasmine draped the blanket over Phoenix, kissed his cheek, smoothed his hair and went back to quietly scribbling away.
Jasmine walked down the street, reading her latest letter from Maya when she crashed into someone.
"Oof!" The other person, a girl, cried. Jasmine opened her eyes as she rubbed her back from where it landed on the concrete and saw the girl, who was rubbing her head. The girl had long, dark black hair and dark green eyes. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary about her but Jasmine was more concerned with the fact that the girl might have a concussion.
"Are you okay?" She cried, going to kneel by the girl's side.
"Y-yeah, I think so." The girl stuttered as she opened her eyes. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention, it's my fault."
"It's mine too cause I wasn't paying attention either." Jasmine said. "I'm Jasmine, by the way."
"Kay." The girl smiled. Jasmine continued to wait expectantly and realizing why, the girl said, "I mean, my name is Kay! Sorry, that happens a lot." The girl wore a sheepish smile at that.
"It's alright and I'd feel better if we checked that head of yours out." Jasmine stated as she felt a slight tickling at the back of her mind, as if she knew the name but she quickly shook it off.
"Well, okay." Kay agreed as she helped Jasmine gather up all of their items before Jasmine supported her to the nearest clinic, the Hickfield Clinic.
The doctor examined Kay easily and it turned out she didn't have a concussion. Both the girl and the woman were grateful for that as they walked out of the clinic again.
"Thanks for bringing me here and I'm sorry I ran into you." Kay apologized.
"No problem, I'm sorry I ran into you too." Jasmine smiled, "I have to run, but I hope we meet again someday."
"Yeah! Maybe we can find some treasure together!" Kay grinned as she clenched her fists in excitement at the prospect. Jasmine chuckled before she nodded in agreement and waved goodbye as she walked away.
Jasmine sat in the park by herself, drawing the peaceful day when she felt someone sit beside her. Looking up, her eyes widened to see Edgeworth beside her.
"Miles, what're you doing here?!" Jasmine hissed. "If we're seen together in public, do you know how many rumors will start?!"
"But we are just two friends meeting up after not seeing each other for a while." Edgeworth countered with a smirk.
"You know nobody's gonna say that! Do you want Oldbag to chase me all the way to LAX and to another country?!" Jasmine growled.
"That won't happen because I won't let it." Edgeworth stated, his gaze becoming more intense and effectively silencing Jasmine. "If any rumors circulate, I will quell them instantly as us being two friends catching up after not seeing each other for fifteen years." Jasmine crossed her arms.
"You very well know that it's only been 4 years since we've last seen each other." She contradicted.
"True, but it's been fifteen years since we were last friends." Edgeworth smirked. Jasmine groaned as she hung her head.
"I'm not gonna win this, right?" She guessed.
"Logically, no." Edgeworth agreed.
"Oh, gee thanks, glad you have such faith in my arguments." Jasmine said sarcastically as she lightly punched the prosecutor's arm. Edgeworth chuckled at that and Jasmine found herself relaxing, falling back into that familiar setting of friendship and companionship they lost over the years. She would allow this but only for now.
Later would have to wait.
Okay, short chapter, I know, but this is just the few things I could think of since there's only two months before the next case. Besides, Maya isn't here so that makes some of the ideas I have a little more difficult. But we got a bunch of future character cameos that I hope you guys enjoyed! Originally, I was going to put Trucy in the Gramarye section but I decided not to at the last second. This conversation between Thalassa and Jasmine will be referenced later which is why it's there. I was also purposefully vague on everything involving Apollo's dad cause they might bring that in in 6 so I don't want to have to come back and edit this. And for anyone curious, Kay isn't exactly how she is in the Investigation games because she doesn't know her dad was the Yatagarasu yet so I tried to make her a little less Great Thief and more ordinary girl. I always clicked on the bookshelf when I played the books and I decided to put Phoenix sleeping on his law books in cause it seemed funny. And you got a small Miles/Jasmine moment so yay for that! Okay, that's it for now, I'll try to update again soon but we'll see. Please review to let me know what you thought! Later!
EDIT: THANK YOU NNINJA FOR REMINDING ME THAT THIS CHAPTER NEEDED TO BE EDITED WITH THE JASMINE AND THALASSA SECTION.
