Hey guys, so the only reason I'm updating is because I have time and because I knew this would be a short chapter. I still don't have a laptop of my own so I am avoiding updating anything long because I know it will not be up when I want it to. If I have time, I will start chapters on my family's laptop but they will not be posted until they are finished. Now, thanks to Tairulz (Thanks! I hope you enjoy the rest!), NNinja (Thank you for all your reviews, they were fun to read! I did edit chapter 18 thanks to you cause I forgot about that. And I hope the fact that this will end up being a Phoenix/Maya fic won't deter you from reading nor cause you to flame me. I respect your opinion and look forward to more reviews from you.), EmeraldWings1992 (Sadly no but I'm working on it. I'm glad I can ALWAYS count on you to be here.), ShadowPhoenix34 (Thanks for understanding, it means a lot.), KyubiMaster9 (I will never give a story up unless I lose all inspiration and that won't happen, I promise.), GlaresThatKill, Raven12446, TacoTurd777, HeartLuvAnimeGirl, oxCuteKataraox, SilverStar56, foxchick1, samspen, FantasyWorld2015, Jack54311, BiffDaKid, Satine Gold, Cure Spirit and RavenBlaze4850 for reviewing/following/favoring along with all 18,600 readers! I honestly love you all so much and I hope you enjoy this chapter! Also, check out chapter 18 again because it's been edited to fit SoJ. Anyways, enjoy!

District Court
Defendant Lobby No. 2
"How did the investigation go yesterday, Mr. Wright?" Lana asked as the policeman who had brought her into the lobby left.
Jasmine was sitting on the couch, pale and trembling, clutching her paper cup full of tea tightly and drinking it as if it were going out of style.
Ema was biting her pencil, a nervous habit, and occasionally writing down a useless piece of information.
Phoenix was pretty sure he had creates a trench in the carpet from his incessant pacing.
Lana was as calm and collected as she was the previous day, which bothered Phoenix more than it should have.
Needless to say, Phoenix Wright was very, very, Very, VERY stressed for the upcoming trial.
"Frankly, there are a lot of…gray areas." Phoenix admitted as his pacing finally stopped.
"Or rather, the whole thing is one big gray area…" Ema commented as she went back to nibbling on her pencil.
"Don't worry about me, no matter the outcome." Lana stated, "I'm ready to accept my fate."
"I believe in you, sis." Ema insisted as she finally put her pencil away and her eyes took on a determined glint.
"Mr. Wright, let me offer you a bit of advice." Lana said, completely ignoring her sister. Phoenix, whose eyes were trained on Jasmine as she began to rock back and forth, snapped his eyes up to meet Lana's.
"Yes?" He asked.
"A defense attorney should never 'believe' their client." Lana stated. Ema gasped and Jasmine looked up in shock at the words, her rocking ceasing as she focused on the conversation. "The defendant is called to trial because they are suspected of wrongdoing! Never forget that."
"Ms. Skye, you…you remind me a lot of Mia." Phoenix started. "But there is one decisive difference between you and her."
"And that is?" Lana asked.
"You're not a defense attorney." Phoenix stated simply causing Lana to look at him in surprise.
"…I believe it's almost time for the trial." Lana stated as she turned away from Phoenix. "Good luck, Mr. Wright." Phoenix nodded before he turned to Jasmine.
"Jazz, will you be okay?" He asked, for the tenth time that morning. Jasmine was silent as she continued to tremble. She took a large sip of her tea, stood up, threw out the empty paper cup, took another one out of her bag, took a nice, long sip and turned to her older brother.
"A-as…ready as I-I-I…can b-be."
"Let's do it, Mr. Wright, Jazz!" Ema cried. "I'll be with you the whole way!"
I didn't know what would happen in that trial but I knew one thing and one thing only.
I was not ready.

District Court
Courtroom No. 9
As soon as the gavel slammed down, all hell broke loose at the defense bench.
Jasmine Wright screamed as she slammed into the wall behind the bench, her tea spilling onto the floor as she began to tremble worse than before. Her legs could no longer support her it seemed as she fell to the floor. As she hit the floor, that's when she began to scream words.
"Don't! I do whatever you want, don't hurt him! Don't pronounce him guilty, I know he's innocent! Just let him go, I'll say what you want me to say! Just leave him and my brother alone!"
Another ear splitting shriek erupted from Jasmine's throat as her body began to spasm, as if she were being electrocuted.
"No! Don't kill him! He doesn't deserve it! Don't hurt me! I didn't mean to see it! I saw nothing! I promise!"
Her head began to shake wildly back and forth.
"It's my fault! It's my entire fault! I'm the reason this is happening! I'm the reason the truth is being obscured! It's my entire fault!"
Finally, since Phoenix and Ema grabbing her caused Jasmine to scream louder, Miles Edgeworth walked over to the defense bench and shook Jasmine roughly to bring her back to reality. As soon as her dark blue eyes met his gray ones, Edgeworth whispered,
"You are safe, I am safe, and Phoenix is safe. He can't hurt you or us. We're safe."
Jasmine blinked at him before she broke down into tears and curled into Edgeworth's arms, face buried in his chest.
"Your Honor, I request a 30 minute recess so I can calm Jasmine down and bring her somewhere safe." Edgeworth requested.
"Is that alright with you, Mr. Wright?" The judge asked.
"Yes, Your Honor. I just want my sister to be safe." Phoenix answered, staring into Edgeworth's eyes the entire time to convey a message. Edgeworth nodded in response.
"Very well. The court will take a 30 minute recess while Jasmine is brought somewhere safe." The judge slammed his gavel down, causing Jasmine to flinch violently in Edgeworth's arms as the prosecutor stood up and made his way out of the court.
Jasmine wasn't aware of anything until she reached Edgeworth's office and he set her on the couch. Instantly, a cup of tea was in her hand and Edgeworth was guiding her hand up so she could drink it. She calmed down and smiled up at Edgeworth in gratitude.
"You shouldn't have come to court if you were having that bad of an attack." Edgeworth stated.
"I…I didn't think…it was that bad." Jasmine whispered, feeling stronger simply because Edgeworth was beside her. Silently, the aide stood up and began to explore the office. As she felt the picture frame that contained a familiar jacket, she was surprised as it swung open, revealing a safe. "What's…in here?" She whispered.
Edgeworth was silent as he opened the safe, revealing it to be empty of everything but a sword that had an old, tattered looking red headband on it.
"It's a sword." Jasmine stated, not taking the sword out.
"A katana that has been in my family for generations. It is considered the symbol of the head of the Japanese clan I am descended from." Edgeworth explained as he came up behind Jasmine.
"So you're…the head of a Japanese…clan?" Jasmine asked.
"Yes, to put it simply." Edgeworth nodded.
"That's cool. Nick and I are of Japanese descent too. I think Nick's going to be the head of our clan, if it still exists." Jasmine smiled. Edgeworth reached down and squeezed her hand.
"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked as he closed the safe.
"Not really but…I hope I will be someday. I just need you and Nick to support me. If I have both of you…I'll be okay." Jasmine answered as she turned around and rested her hands on his chest. Edgeworth leaned down and kissed Jasmine's forehead.
"I have to get back to court." Edgeworth whispered.
"I'll head home." Jasmine whispered back. The two then made their way back down the stairs.
I spent the rest of the trial at my apartment, trying to remain calm. I ended up writing a song for Ema and making a few crystals before Nick called me to let me know how the trial went. I almost couldn't believe what he told me.
And there's the chapter! And just so you know, the sword is a hint of a prequel story that I will one day write. I hope you guys enjoyed; leave me a review so I know what you think! And once again I apologize for the long wait you're going to have for a chapter after this. But I'll get back as soon as I can. Later!
