Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi on his memories of Anakin's turn to the Dark Side and his hopes on Luke's future. 3 years post RotS. One-shot.
The Nightmares Never End
"I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire."
"Your new empire?"
"Don't make me kill you."
"Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!"
"If you're not with me, then you're my enemy."
More exchanged words. Fighting. The removal of two legs and an arm.
"You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness!"
"I hate you!"
By the look in his SIth colored eyes and the tone of his voice, Obi-Wan knew it to be true. His padawan was gone- consumed by this Darth Vader.
"You were my brother, Anakin! I loved you!"
Obi-Wan Kenobi opened his eyes to the harsh, burning sunlight of Tatooine. He sighed, taking a deep breath. It'd been three years, yet the betrayal, fall, and likely death of Anakin Skywalker still haunted him, as did the fall of the Republic and Jedi Order. It'd all happened so fast, and so violently.
When he thought of his padawan and friend, he tried to think of the young slave boy he'd met in Mos Eisley, on this very same planet. But his thoughts always drifted back to the arrogant young man, to the troubled Jedi Knight he'd turned into when the war started. Often during the war, he lost control. Often Obi-Wan had to stop him from being too harsh.
And, too, often Obi-Wan remembered what the Jedi Council had said about Anakin when he and Qui-Gon brought him to Coruscant. They'd said that he was too old, that he had too many attachments already- that he could never become a Jedi. Qui-Gon never lost faith; he died with it. He'd made him promise to train the boy. So he had, when ever Master Yoda feared danger in his training.
And maybe they were right. Now, he wondered if it were true after all.
His padawan, his friend, his brother. Anakin had been more than just another Jedi at the temple to him. He'd been family. And now he and the life of the Jedi were gone.
As Obi-Wan watched over the son of Anakin Skywalker, he sometimes wondered if he'd end up the same way. After all, he did have his blood. But he always told himself that when Larrs finally let him start training the boy- Luke- that he'd make him truly the best Jedi ever. He'd combat the Dark Side and the Empire. He'd destroy the Emperor. Then the galaxy will be in peace once again.
Luke Skywalker would bring balance to the Force once again.
