Harry was delighted to be home with his books, magical books for next year. He started reading them, with the Potions book on the top of the list. He'd reread it a few more times before the end of the summer. Wouldn't do to be caught accidentally getting something perfect, after all.

Harry spent time in the loo reading his books, he read in bed, he even read while walking to Aikido (that nicely practiced situational awareness, which was useful in of itself. No walking into roadsigns today!).

Most of his books seemed fantastic, particular the Transfiguration and Charms books. The Potions book was rather dry, but Harry was well aware that Snape's magnetic voice made the class worthwhile - for sheer entertainment value alone.

Besides, the books were a link back to Hogwarts, to his true heritage and home. He didn't really feel like the Dursleys' was anything more than a vacation. And why should he? It was just two months, after all.

BUT - there were the DADA books. The teacher had no ability to choose, and appeared to have selected the entire Lockhart Collection for students' perusal.

Harry wouldn't have minded most teachers assigning more reading material - but this was particularly dire. He already had five questions about inconsistencies in the text, and if a child with a first year's Defense education could come up with that many...

The charitable answer would be that these were false books, intended to see which students showed promise, and get them a better education.

Harry doubted that, however. This came from a school that employed a ghost to teach history. Poorly. He rather thought that What is on the Tin was probably what he was getting. And, judging by the sighing throngs of women lined up to purchase one of Lockhart's books, it was probably going to be a witch without an ounce of common sense.*

To dread DADA would imply that Harry spent a good deal more of his brainpower on classes than he actually did. Truth be told, he preferred to study alone. So long as they didn't close the library (over Pince's dead body), Harry would be fine. He'd have Hermione to help, and that was even better! Restricted Section books always managed to have a faint air of naughtiness around them, even when they were 95% the same content as his usual textbook.

*Harry only thinks it was crowded. He's not very used to crowds, particularly unregulated ones.
