Missy hadn't had feelings like this before. She'd loved people and had crushes before but those feelings usually lasted a moment or two. The feeling was so foreign to her that it took her weeks to realise what it was. She was in love. She knew she was becoming saner and starting to care about people but falling in love with a human? Never. She could never. She couldn't be in love with Bill.
Anyway, she had more important things to think about. Like where the hell the doctor had taken them today. It seemed to her like a ghost town. Large skyscrapers towered over her but all were empty. She had been to many a ghost town before. Usually, after she'd killed everyone there. Him and Nardol were muttering about life signs through so there must be at least one person.
It was then she spotted a man on the roof of a skyscraper. With a gun. Aiming at them. Great. She tapped on the doctor's back to get his attention. "What?" he said, annoyed someone had interrupted his rambling.
"There's a man on the roof of that skyscraper aiming a gun at us," Missy said.
"Oh. So there is."He replied, pulling everyone inside the closest building just in time to escape the first blast. They ran through the rooms, dodging the blasts coming in through the shattered windows. Nardol pointed over to a basement door where they could shelter.
They ran towards the door. Out the corner of her eye, she spotted it. A blast heading straight for Bill. Without thinking, she pushed her out of the way, landing right on top of her. She quickly got up, straightening out her clothes to cover up the blast wound on her shoulder.
Everyone stared at her with a look of pure shock. "Is everyone gonna stand here and get shot or are we going to the basement?" she said. They went down into the basement. They could faintly hear frustrated shouts coming from the shooter.
The basement was dark and damp. A man emerged from the corner and told him he'd been expecting them and would take them somewhere safe. They began trekking through a long tunnel. The doctor asked the man questions about what this place was and why they were being shot at. Missy couldn't care less. She hated admitting it but Bill was the only reason she kept coming on these little adventures.
After 10 minutes they arrived in an underground refugee camp. They were only 2 spare tents so Missy and Bill had to share. Missy sat down in the small tent. She yelped as pains shot down her shoulder. Bill looked at her. "Have you been shot?" she asked, concerned.
Missy sighed and revealed a large wound on her right shoulder. Bill left the tent and came back with a first aid kit. She began cleaning Missy's wound. "Thanks for taking the blast for me. You didn't have to y' know." she said.
"I did. It would've hit your chest. You would've died." she replied.
"Since when did you care if I died? When we first met you were advocating for my death."
"That was because it would stop the monks. Plus I've changed since then."
"I can see that. You care for others now. You'd never of done that a few months ago. I'm proud of you."
"Really? Proud?"
"I might not know much about you but I can tell you've put in a lot of effort to be a better person than you once were."
"I guess I have put in some effort. I wonder how the old me would react if he saw me."
The two of them locked eyes. Bill looked so beautiful even in this darkness. Bill smiled and Missy leaned forward. Their lips met in a precious moment, that Missy hoped would last forever.
