Sup everyone, and thank you for continuing the story. So let's get it going
Speaking "No"
Thoughts 'No'
Powers {NO}
'So close' Corvo thought as he was about to be on his way when he suddenly couldn't move his body 'This is dreadfully familiar' the last time he was stuck like this it wasn't a good day, so he hoped this didn't end horribly.
"Professor Goodwitch what are you doing?!" it sounded like the girl in white from earlier
"Miss Schnee this is a rogue huntsman" the woman named Goodwitch said "We've been looking for him, so now he's under arrest.
Some people gasp as they look back to Corvo. "But he helped clear out the Grimm" the girl tried to reason. But the Professor wasn't hearing any of it "Be that as it may he still needs to come in"
Corvo heard this, and thought one thing.
'Fuck this!' Corvo could still use his void energy even if his body was frozen, so it's time to go {SWARM} the void words echoed in Corvo's mind as a large circular shadow over seven feet wide appeared in front of him. Out of the circle and swarm of countless rats ran out going every which way towards people, and causing a bit of panic as they crawled on, and over everything. 'Now!' {BLINK} Corvo focuses forward as his body vanishes from the Professor's telekinetic grip, and reappears a couple feet ahead of everyone.
Without a moment Corvo took off running ahead 'Shit where should I go?!' not a lot of options since he guessed there were other hunters and huntresses in the area, with those ships overhead it might be better to stay off of the rooftops. 'I'll just...' a gunshot was heard from behind Corvo, so he quickly randomly {BLINK} himself without a point of focus away from his current location.
Corvo reappeared. He was a bit ahead from where he teleported from, so he turned back with his pistol aimed. But he wasn't being shot at, but instead someone was standing where he was just at with the ground around, crack like someone came crashing down.
"You know I thought you would try something sneaky" standing there with grayed hair, black pants, and the same gray jacket was the young man that Corvo had fought on the roof a little while ago. "I guess using tricks are kind of your thing".
'Just my luck' would be one of the punks I dealt with, but where's his friend. Like if the universe was listening, Corvo heard chains from behind, so he turned in time to deflect a chain blade that was being swung at him. Just like he thought the annoying green haired girl was standing with a smirk as she pulled her weapon back.
'I don't remember a chain last time' Corvo tried to recall.
"Remember us" she asked a little too sweetly.
'All too well' Corvo thought, so he aimed his pistol that was still loaded with explosives and fired without a moment's hesitation right between the girl's legs to push her back. After all this people could take it, but he also knew how fast they could be so after firing he turned back around to see a fly foot coming straight for him just like he thought. Leaning back the kick flew right past him as he locked eyes with the gray-haired boy who looked confident as he balanced on one leg, and turned his body as he swung the same leg around straight towards Corvo's head.
But he hit nothing but the air itself 'What the fu..' the boy felt his other leg kick from under him causing his body to be free in the air, before he was launched away by a hard gust of wind.
'Why did kicking him hurt?' The kid must have legs of steel, if Corvo didn't have higher strength that might have injured his leg.
Now Corvo {BLINK} again before a certain girl came slashing, but she was already too late as Corvo appeared on top of a street light high above, easily balancing himself on top of the narrow space.
"Stop right there you have nowhere to go!" it was the same voice he heard when he was frozen. Looking down Corvo saw a middle-aged woman that didn't look to please as she saw Corvo. She had very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. Her eyes are bright green and she was wearing thin ovular glasses. She also had a white long-sleeved, pleated top that had a wide keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs that flared in pleats at the wrist. Her lower body is covered by a black high waisted pencil skirt with bronze buttons and black-brown stockings.
She wasn't distracted by Corvo's little trick as she swung a riding crop? Casually launching rats without touching any of them away from people, and herself as she walked towards Corvo looking as if it was all too easy. 'She may be one I shouldn't fight right now' Corvo would need to put a bit more focus if he had to fight her, which in his current situation surrounded by enemies was a no go.
Corvo had an idea but it would be quite draining on he's mana for a while holding his hand out towards the woman {POSSESSION} Corvo's body vanished. The woman lifted her crop in a defensive stance as she quickly turned around thinking that the 'mask hunter' was trying to get behind her, but no one was there.
"Where did he go?" Goodwitch looked over the area seeing no trace of him, heck even the rats were starting to disperse running every which way with great emergency. But just a moment ago they tried their very best to get everyone's attention 'Did he escape?' that would be her best guest, but what kind of semblance did he have to summon rat's and teleport?
'But he could still be around' she didn't have time to go find him again herself with all the work she had to do fixing the area. Goodwitch signed looks his main goal was to run. She pulled out her scroll, and made a call.
"Hello Glynda is everything ok?" Ozpin's voice rang out.
"Yes, the situation has been taken care of.
"Good I hope no one was injured."
"No everything was taken care of with no problems, but one."
"And that would be?"
"The mask hunter showed himself again."
"... Tell me more" Ozpin said calmly.
"I'll have a full report after I clean this mess, but I'm sending a search team to swipe the area"
"I'll leave everything in your capable hands then"
*Click*
"But who to send?" She wondered aloud.
You are Corvo, one of the best assassins to ever live when you were back home. People both feared and respected you for your skills, and impossible challenges you've handled. But here you are now in the body of a rat scurrying as fast as you can though the streets of Vale putting as much distance between you, and some woman with a cattle crop as a weapon.
'One of those days huh'
But he did escape with the help of {SWARM} which would usually be {DEVOURING SWARM} but he thought against summoning man eating rat's with that many people around. Not that he had to worry about them. His rats never attack him, buuuuuut.
He was starting to think this world was trying to mess with him, but Corvo was trying his best to keep control of the rat's body as long as he could as he continued running. After fighting the Grimm, and having to now escape these Hunters, and Huntresses. He ended up using a bit of mana, so when he stopped using {POSSESSION} he would need a head start while his mana regenerated itself.
So he would need a quiet place to stay for a little while even though he knew there was some risk to that plan. Like him being found out before he had strength, but it would be even more dangerous to be caught tired and running, and still having no powers.
So he was making a gut call.
As Rat Corvo continued running as long as possible, and far as he could before he realized that he wasn't familiar with the area he was in. Nothing he saw was anything he became slightly familiar with after traveling the town for a bit. He was in such a hurry he didn't even know where he was going anymore, so he's movements could be hindered if he didn't know where he was going. Rat Corvo ran into the next alleyway he came upon, and followed it though towards the end to see it was a dead end with a brick wall before him. Looking back towards the entrance of the alleyway, and the only light source being the light on the main streets, leaving the rest of the alley darken so no one should be able to see him.
'This should work.' Rat Corvo looked back towards the brick wall, and closed his eyes. When he opened them again Corvo was sitting down with his back to the wall. Taking his mask off, and storing it inside his coat Corvo looked down Corvo saw the little rat that helped him get out, it was standing on its hind legs and watching Corvo with curiosity "Thanks for you help little guy, but looks like I'm still a bit of trouble".
Corvo didn't know how long he sat there in the alleyway letting his body, and mind rest, but it had to be a while until he felt a slight sting in his lower back. 'So that's where it got me' Now that the void, and adrenaline wore off he could actually feel the pain now from that Grimm, so he would have to take care of that. Taking off his coat, to look over the damage. The lower back of the coat had a clean cut with a bit of blood around the edges. 'Just got this to' tossing it to the side for now.
Next he took off his long sleeves to check the damage, but it was easy to see it was ruined. It had the same damage as the coat which wasn't the problem, the thing was completely damp with blood. Corvo just signed as he simply tore the sleeve off, and tossed the shirt with the trash.
While he started rapping the cloth around his back Corvo had the thought 'The hell I'm I going to do for a shirt'. Guess he could just wear his other coat, even though one of the sleeves was torn.
Well gotta use what I have.
But when Corvo reached for his bag a loud bang came from behind him. Corvo stepped further into the shadows in a moment as he grabbed the hilt of his blade, even without {DARKVISION} Corvo didn't have much trouble seeing in the dark with what little void he had.
The loud bang was a metal door that was slammed open, then suddenly a man launched out of the door hitting the ground. "AH bastards!" the man shouted as he hit the ground.
After him two men entered the alleyway with one skinny chuckling all the while at the man's pain, while the slightly bigger man followed silently. "Sam Sam Sammy boy" the skinny one started "Told you if you did have the money, Hammer was going to crash one of your balls." The bigger man now named Hammer just nodded in agreement.
The man quickly stood up with his hands out in surrender "Hey hey hey! Ferret there's no need for that, come on we knew each other since we were kids right?" The man named Sam tried to reason.
Corvo couldn't get a good look at the pleading man since his back was towards him, but the other two he could have a good look at the other two. The one called Ferret was wearing an all black suit with all red dressed shoes to match his red Fedora, and red shades with a sleazy smirk to go with it all. But Hammer was in a white collar shirt with a red tie, and a black suit jacket that was left unbuttoned.
Hammer had a completely stone face during this whole ordeal.
"Yea we grew up together, and you were shit at paying me back then too" Ferret pulled a box from his coat, and pulled a cigarette out. "Funny to see shit hasn't changed much" Ferret put the cigarette in his mouth then snapped his finger, and a flame appeared on his thumb.
'What the hell?' Corvo thought the guy didn't look like he would be a hunter.
As Ferret lit his cigarette Sam took a chance to talk this out "But Ferret you said you give five days, it's only been three days I've still have time!" Sam pleaded "I've got jobs set up to pay you."
Ferret just shook his head "Well I need the money now!" Ferret's voice raised a little more than he took a long drag on his cigarette. "Haven't you heard Roman got himself locked up today during some Grimm attack. So I've gotta act quick to grab territory as quickly as I can. This is my chance!" Ferret felt a tap on his shoulder as he looked back and saw a hammer staring at him "Oh right my temper, thanks Hammer" Hammer nodded. "So Sammy boy you're going to have to make some big moves right now to pay me."
"But...I... we had... I don't have the cash yet we had a deal!" Sam stuttered "I had everything set to pay you on time!"
"Hey hey don't get smart with me! You! came to me for money not vice versa alright." Ferret scolded "I know you have family problems, but we all have problems and mine is you don't have any money on you" Ferret finished his cigarette, and flick it away. "Hey Hammer much could we get if we sold him or something?"
"What!?" Sam said in a panic
Hammer just shrugged.
"Yea probably not that much" Ferret agreed "But we can still see around for a asking price huh?" Ferret began chuckling to himself before pointing at Sam "Hammer grab him".
"Wait Ferret you can't do this!" Sam started to back away, but Ferret grabbed the collar of Sam's shirt as he reached into his coat pulling out a gun. Ferret put the gun right under Sam's jaw "You need to keep quiet or I'm going to have to sell your organs to get my money." The threat was clear, Sam's face shifted into defeat causing a big grin to appear on Ferret.
"Good good you understand," but Ferret frowned as he looked back "What are you hourly I said grab him." Then suddenly the sound of a thud was heard through the alley, Ferret who was now confused forgot Sam for a moment as he turned around. "Hammer?'' The alley was dark so Ferret snapped his fingers again to get some light.
When the alley was lit, Ferret saw the body Hammer down on the ground unmoving. A shocked look of surprise went though Ferret "What the he-Gah!?" Ferret felt a heavy hand punch him in the back of head knocking him insistently. Ferret's body fell over on top Hammer, and the two laid there unconscious.
"What the hell?" Sam said in the confusion it was too dark to really tell anything, Sam could see the body figure of someone standing right in front of him "Who hell are you?!"
Corvo didn't turn to the man he instead crouched down towards the fallen body of Ferret, and reached over next to him. Taking hold of his prize Corvo picking up Ferret's gun or at least it looked like a gun to Corvo, wasn't a weapon he's seen before 'So this is a weapon from this world huh?' Yea Corvo was taking this.
Looking over his shoulder Corvo saw the frighten man still standing there with shaky legs. "It's your luck day" Corvo started "You better go now". The man still just stood there opening, and closing his mouth for a moment "Th-thank you" Sam said.
"Hmmm" Corvo hummed in acknowledgement.
"What are you doing?" the man asked.
"None of your concern" Corvo looked though Ferrets jacket pockets grabbing what Corvo didn't know was ammunition for the gun he took. He had 5 long clips in hand that he stored in his bag for later "Plus you should be out of here before they wake up" Corvo warned.
The man had a dry laugh "What does it matter when they wake up, they'll be even madder and come for me". Corvo continued with his looting while checking the alley entrance just in case anyone entered "Rather quick to give?" Corvo question. While looking through Ferret's other pockets he found a bit of cash (35.00 Lien) did Corvo feel bad for taking these unlucky criminal items...
The answer was no, not at all.
"Easy for you to say!" Sam scoffed "I can't knock guys like you can, I'm just a bartender" Sam shoulders fell "Just a normal guy"
"Hmmm" Corvo hummed. He found another scroll on Ferret which he put right back 'Nope not after last time I took one of these'. Corvo had finished looking over Ferret, and moved his body over and began to look over Hammer "There are other ways to handle yourself even if you just don't know it yet" Corvo advised. Soldiers can't run the country, something they used to say in his trainee days back in the academy. There are more ways to battle than with a blade in hand, but telling that to a bunch of young blooded youth didn't really stick with anyone. At least not until Corvo started working for the royal family where he got a closer look at what really runs a country.
Checking over Hammer pockets Corvo discovered he didn't have anything on him. 'Well that disappointing' Corvo was hoping for a bit of extra cash. Looking over Hammer Corvo noticed Hammer was only a little bit bigger than himself 'Wonder if his shirt would fit?' despite times came to despite measures.
While Corvo got to work Sam took a seat in the darkness behind him unmoving, and silent for a while now but Corvo knew the man wanted to say something.
"Why are you still here?" Corvo finally got the bastard shirt.
"Hey you're not from around here are you?" Sam asked from out of nowhere.
Not that Sam could really see, but Corvo had stood up and put the white collar shirt on. It was a little big on him with the shirt going slightly past Corvo's waist, but it would do. Corvo was curious about Sam guessing "What makes you say that?"
"Well nobody just jumps, and robs Ferret, and Hammer as casually like you are right now ,there actually well know around here" Sam started "And the fact some guy is hanging out in this alley is strange." Sam heard footsteps in the darkness causing him to tense up for a moment. For a second Sam only heard a bit of sound coming from the side of the alley, but the man continued to speak to him.
"What makes this alley special?" Corvo questioned
"Well the joke is people who usually end up in the alley are never found" Sam came a dry chuckle "So people started calling this Dead-Man's alley, so most don't come in here."
"Guess you really got lucky than" Corvo has finish packing so it was time to move 'Hopefully pursuers wouldn't be around here.'
"Yea...lucky" Sam thought for a moment "Hey hey do you need a job?"
Right as Corvo was about to make he's way out of the alley he looked at Sam "A job? Look I don't what you think, but I'm not into the criminal world"
"No no no you got the wrong idea, like actually work that would be legal" Sam tried to explain "I said earlier I'm a bartender for a pretty well known place, I could get you a job there."
"I can't help, but notice the timing." Corvo jokes "What am I to do? Work around you when we both know these will after you again".
"Look I'm not going to lie. Yes I want you around just in case these guys come back, but I'll pay you a little extra and convince the boss to give you a decent paycheck. One to be able to live off at least."
Corvo thought about it for a moment "What would you want me to do?"
"Well the place has been under staff since... Well after a lot of them got their ass kicked a while back by some chick" Sam explained "So you would be extra hands around the place, not too bad right? Doesn't even have to be a permanent thing".
Well Corvo did need to keep on his toes for a little while, so maybe this bar would be a nice little cover for a temper situation. Plus if the bastard is telling the truth could be some much needed cash if he was going to spend the rest of his days here. Another thing would be, he could finally have funds to start looking into battle supplies from this world.
Taking one gun isn't gonna cut it.
"Alright Sam was it? We're going to walk out of here, have a casual conversion for at least a block, and then we'll have a talk. Can you understand that" Corvo voiced more a command than asking.
"What! Yes I can do that." Sam nearly shouted before catching himself remembering there are two unconscious thugs who wanted his life here. "Sorry" he whispered
"Don't make me rethink this, for your life remember?" Corvo warned.
"Right right sorry again" Sam stood off dusting himself. "Just happy to have a little luck is all"
"Hmm" Corvo hummed before he begin to walk away
"Oh were leaving now?!" careful Sam walks over towards the exit trying his best not to step on either Ferret, or Hammer to follow Corvo. "So you already know I'm Sam, what's your name?"
Corvo continued walking "No name until we were at least a block or two out of here".
"Oh alright than" Sam said bit nervously
Corvo walked into the streets wearing his freshly stolen white button up dress shirt with his old royal black coat with the completely ripped sleeve, and his hood on to cover most of his face. It was a bit dark now in the city of Vale with the coming of night, but the streets were bursting with life with people dressing in different way than Corvo has been seeing for most people. Some males had clothing much flasher than anything he's seen, Some had suits with shiny jewelry in groups of others dressed in a similar fashion. Women had colorful full dresses, and unique designed outfits that were quite revealing.
As Corvo looked around his surroundings he was sure he never been here before 'Where the hell I'm I at?' At this time Sam had made his way out of the alley stepping his way into the light, giving Sam his first look at Corvo.
But for Corvo he already got a good look at Sam in the alley, but the thing was Sam was just kind of a plain looking man. Not to say it as an insult, but the man looked to be in his twenties wearing solid black shoes, pants even shirt with nothing standing out in the slightest hell even his eyes, and curled up hair is just plain black. None of his features just really stuck out in any way.
After Sam looked over Corvo expediently "So where are we...?"
Corvo shrugged "If you know these parts take the lead by all means."
"Well alright then. Follow me" Sam said as he gestured to follow.
Corvo nodded, and followed Sam by his side into the busy streets. The two walked for a moment without a single word between the two, in Sam's case it was mostly because he was nervous about this whole situation only to glance at Corvo for a second before looking straight forward again. For Corvo he was mostly focused on his surroundings, taking in sights, and watching out for potential danger, this continued until a police airship hovered above them with a bright light beaming down on rooftops.
"Really? That's like the third time they've come by" Sam commented
"Yes I've noticed as well, but I thought it might be routine" Corvo guessed. Like the patrol they had back home, but Sam shook his head. "Nah not like this, and especially not with a search light on" Sam scratched his chin for a moment "Guess they could be looking for something who knows with this area."
'Well no rooftops for a little while' Corvo thought to himself at the news. "What is this part of town anyway?" Corvo asked to find his chance for info.
"Oh well it's mostly the clubbing seen, and bars around here with a few special places in between" Sam chuckled a bit "At least on paper that is."
Corvo caught the meaning "Remember to keep it casual."
"For this area that is casual," but Sam guesses they'll have their real talk in a moment "But have you been in Vale long" Sam tried.
"No not really" Corvo admitted "But I've been getting by. Vale is interesting though"
"One of a kind I would say, and you came around a good time too." Sam said a bit excitedly
"Why is that?"
"Well the Vytal Festival is coming up in a little while" Sam said with a smile. But Corvo looked at Sam in confusion "The what?" Corvo questioned
"What! you don't know about the Festival. Must be from a smaller town than any city than" Sam shook his head for a moment. "I can tell you about it if you like ?"
Corvo shrugged "We got time to kill as we walk." Sam smiled as he began to explain.
The Vytal Festival is an international festival held every two years in one of the Kingdoms this year being Vale. During the festival, the various cultures of the world are celebrated with dances, parades and a combat tournament with the students of all the different academy's which was the highlight of the festival since many people don't get to see Hunters, and Huntresses actually fight. The host kingdom of the festival rotates every two years, and the host opens its borders to visitors from the other kingdoms. It was a day to celebrate the peace between the Kingdom after eighty years since a Great war, something Corvo might look into later.
To tell the truth Corvo was highly interested in seeing this Festival, it would be a good chance to have a look at the people from the other Kingdoms. Plus studying some fights while having food, and drinks didn't sound too bad either, he hoped I would be open to see it. It was a hard call with everything he needed to do setting himself up.
Sam suddenly came to a stop in front of a restaurant called Benny's "This should be fair enough, plus there enough people here to hide among them, and I'm pretty hungry hope you don't mind"
"Not at all" Corvo had fought hard, and used a lot of void energy today so he was very hungry himself since he never got a chance for lunch. Sam knew the place pretty well apparently as he greeted the works with a familiar, and they greeted him the same. Once the two sat down at a table in the corner away from others, which Sam asked for and the workers were happy to give it to him. After ordering their food, the two began their discussion.
"This job of protecting you, what exactly do you expect of me when those two come for you." Corvo started in a low voice "I hope you don't think I'm just going to kill them".
That would just cause trouble, and he wasn't trying to kill people here.
Sam quickly shook his head "No no you got the wrong idea" Sam tried to explain "I want you to watch my back give me a heads up, and stop them if you can while I get the police" Sam took a sip of water. "They've gotten away with this kind of stuff for years, because they did it out of sight of the law." Sam pointed at Corvo "But that's where you would come in, if you could help me I could get them locked for a very very long time". Sam said with a slight smile at the thought of Ferret in jail.
"Hmm I see" Corvo said plainly. Not the worst idea Corvo heard he's done very similar things in his line of work, so he got a feel for what Sam was going for. "This place you work at what it's like"
"Oh the place is called Temptation it is a pretty known Nightclub around this area" Sam thought for a moment "It's cool actually, lots of different people come to the place, music not bad. Pay decent."
"I'm gonna need more than that, like who owns the place?" Corvo cut off.
Sam nodded "A guy named Junior Xiong he owns, and runs the place" Sam signed "He's alright I guess he's not the worst guy to work for, kind of brute at times, but sensible at other times."
"Anything else? I'm not trying to go into this blinded" Corvo asked.
Sam nervously laughed "Well he might be into some shadier stuff, but that's none of my business so as long keep to myself".
"What do you mean?" Corvo tried to ask to get details, but Sam shook his head.
"Like I said none of my business, so I don't know what he gets into and I'm not the only person who works there, and doesn't know either.
Corvo didn't like that much, but if it was temp work might not matter in the long run. He would just have to watch himself if he works there "Alright I can live with that, but when you said extra hand what does that mean?"
"Well just as it sounds you could help with bouncers, or maybe eyes for any shady charters in the club, or just help carry boxes to the back, that kind of stuff." Sam looked hopeful at Corvo "Can you help me."
"Hmm" Corvo hummed "This extra pay how much?" Corvo still didn't have a full handle on the money that they use here but he's been trying. He didn't want to bleed already for his cash, but Corvo was in need himself if he was going to start paying for supplies.
Sam nodded "Best I can really do is 20.00 lien every week, and I won't lie I can't pay you until I do some extra stuff."
Corvo thought it over. He really did need some extra cash, who knows how high his expenses are going to get. He needed more clothes, food, a first aid kit, a place to sleep and most importantly weapons but he would work finding a trader for that on a different day. There was also the plus of him keeping a low profile as he earned cash.
'It could be worst'
"You have a deal than Sam," Corvo agreed.
Sam's eyes widen "Really! Thank you" Sam smiled a bit. It seemed like his luck might have turned around. Sam put his hand out "Then get can I get your name"
Corvo took the man's hand as they sealed the deal.
"Yea it's just Corvo."
Lucky the food came just in time as well.
AuNotes: And That's it, thank you all for reading.
I'm surprised that I was able to put another chapter so soon, but I'm probably going to spend some time reediting some of the old chapters to fix some stuff. So that might take a little bit of time.
(Edited) Well I edited everything to this point so I'm happy that's done, and I hope I don't have to do anything like this again.
