**The Next Day

*Elena's POV

I wake up to my mom pulling the curtains open. My heart pounds thinking Stefan and I got caught yet again in bed with each other but when I feel the cold side where he should be a mix of relief and disappointment wash over me.

"There's a flower delivery for you downstairs and we have to get to a meeting regarding the founders' parade in an hour so please get ready," she says in her excited mom tone. She loved founders' events, more than Caroline, who conveniently rushed into my room just as my mom left.

"Guess what skank was chosen to get wardrobe design for a certain Salvatore?" She asks in her angry judgy tone.

"Who?" I ask not really caring as I got up and threw on a purple tank and my jean shorts.

"Don't act ike you're not interested," Care replies huffing and crossing her arms.

"I'm sorry but I could care less," I say throwing my hair into a ponytail. "Stefan and I are in a good place and I trust him."

I turn to face her and she rolls her eyes.

"Well fine but when you get all pissy at the meeting don't tell me I didn't try," she says sighing in defeat.

I laugh at her and we walk out the door. My mom is waiting in the car and we had over to the town hall.

*Stefan's POV

"STEF!" Katherine yells from inside the house. I sigh and turn to go back inside. This is the fourth outfit she's asked me to approve and we're 15 minutes late for the Founders' Day Parade Meeting… not that that's a bad thing.

"Yes?" I say sticking my head into her room.

"Does this make me look fat?" she asks flattening the red sun dress she had on.

"Kat, you look beautiful," I say. "And you're not fat you're pregnant."

"Thank you Captain Obvious," she says walking past me and out to the car.

"You're welcome Captain Sarcastic," I say following behind her.

We arrive at the town hall and I come around and open the door for her.

"You know you're still the only guy I know who opens the door for a girl," she says as she steps out of the car. I shrug and smirk at her.

"What can I say I know how to charm a lady," I joke and she nudges my shoulder.

"Let's get this over with, you have a conference call at 2 Mr. CEO," she says as she half guides me half drags me into the building.

"So nice of you to join us Stefan," Elijah says from behind the podium. I give him a fake smile and sit in the back of the room next to Kat.

"As I was saying," Elijah says shooting daggers at me. I don't know when we started to hate each other but we actually used to be friends. "This year the Mikaelson's have been chosen to organize the floats and here's who we have on each float. The first float will have the junior league pageant winners. The second float will have the fire company…." I tune him out and begin to play flappy bird on my phone. Then I hear my name.

"..Stefan Salvatore and Makensi George will be on the final float." Elijah says with an evil flicker in his eyes.

"What float is Elena on?" I whisper into Kat's ear.

"His." She whispers back.

I inhale a deep agitated breath and look around the room for Elena but everyone had broken off into their float groups already.

*Elena's POV

Before I can go say hi to Stefan Elijah was in front of me.

"Hey Elena," he said with a devilish grin.

"Hey," I say trying to scan the room for Stefan.

He starts to tell me about the plan for the float when I spy Stefan standing. He's standing talking with Klaus and Kensi. He looks bored out of his mind and he keeps checking his watch. He finally looks up when he feels me staring at him. He waves and just as I'm about to wave back Elijah waves his hand in front of me.

"You ready to go start the float?" he asks.

"Yeah," I say still trying to be able to look at Stefan but Elijah keeps getting in the way.

*A couple Hours later

It's 1:55 when Elijah finally tells everyone to break for lunch. I quickly make my way over to Stefan's float. He's waiting for me leaning on the pole behind his float.

"Miss. Gilbert," He says flashing me his million dollar smile. "You're covered in paint."Maybe we should go get cleaned up," I say wrapping my arms around his neck.

"I would love to," he says giving me a quick peck. "But I have a conference call in five."

"Ugh why do you have to be all Responsible?" I whine moving my hands to his chest.

"Its a curse," he says. "But what do you say we go have a picnic in the barn tonight?"

I nod and give him a quick kiss just as his phone rings.

He mouths an "I love you" before he answers the phone.

"Hey Lena," Katherine says showing up as Stefan walks to take the call outside.

"Hey Kat," I say giving her a quick hug. "How are you?"

"I'm great," she says.

We start to talk about all the baby stuff and she seems a lot happier than she ever was with Damon.

"When do we get to find out the gender?" I ask excitedly.

"Next week," she answers. "Stefan is already going insane about getting neutral presents and clothes. He says he wants to be surprised but he also wants to know so I'm not sure if I should tell him or not." I laugh because Stefan is more excited about this baby than he is the foal.

"Why don't you bring him to the appointment with you?" I suggest and she gives me a look that says that's a good idea when Stefan walks back in.

"So what are we talking about?" He asks wrapping his arm around my waist.

"Just about how you've gone to like twelve different baby stores in the past week," Kat teases him.

"It was only two I swear," he says rolling his eyes at her.

"Those were the online stores," Kat says rolling her eyes at him.

"Fine I might have a baby obsession but only a little one," he says not wanting to argue with Kat.

"Well you can help me plan the baby shower then," I say looking up at him and he smiles excitedly in response.

*Kat's POV

As I watched Stef and Lena look at each other with those goofy lovestruck I was glad that my kid would get to be around these two. They reminded me a lot of how Damon and I were in the beginning. They were pure and you could tell they trusted each other with everything. Surprisingly in the short amount of time they'd been together they already had what people spent years trying to find.

"There's definitely going to be a bounce house," Stefan says.

"It's a babyshower not a kid's birthday party," Elena says rolling her eyes at him.

"It'll be like a homage to the fun the kid will have," he says. "Kat wouldn't a bounce house be a great idea?"

"Um Stef you'd be the only one in there," I respond.

"I'd go in with you," Grandma Salvatore says as she and Jake come to bring us all some lunch.

"If Grams is in so am I," Jake says excitedly.

"Well I'm on team no bounce house," Elena says giggling slightly at the disappointed look Gram and Jake give her.

"We can get a bounce house for your birthday, little man," I say to Jake.

"Or we can get a bounce house for the baby shower and not let any of these losers join us," Stefan says.

Elena gives Stefan a pointed look as Jake high fives him.

"I'll just pop the bounce house," I say shrugging.

"Awe you're no fun Auntie Kat," Jake says pouting slightly.

"Whatever you do don't cave. He'll use it against you," a voice says from behind me. I notice Stefan tense and that can mean it's only one person.
