Chapter 20...
The feast had began a few moments ago, and everyone was seated properly around the long, broad dinner table. Every member of the Jaegers was there eating happily. Tatsumi was seated next to Esdeath, naturally, and as usual, he looked like he was having the worst time of his life.
"Tatsumi, try some. This beast's meat is known to restore vitality, and provides proprieties that make the muscles stronger." Esdeath was trying to spoon feed Tatsumi like a child. Tatsumi gritted his teeth as she kept poking his cheek. "You've just recently come out of recovery. I won't accept anything less than your full strength." Her pale blue eyes fixated on him. She had her other arm over his shoulder, while purposefully pressing the side of her tit into his hand. Taking advantage of the open collar to spill out her flesh onto him. She openly seduced him (At least in her mind) at the dinner table without a care in the world.
"I can eat on my own! Get the fuck off me!" Tatsumi was trying to shove her away with extreme annoyance. His hand buried into her large bosom, as he kept pushing, but to no effect.
"Your resistance is futile, but adorable. I just can't get enough of it." She smiled deeper as she kept poking his cheek with the food. "Oh I have this present for you, by the way. It's a collar I picked out especcially for you, so as to show our bond to others." She suddenly pulled out a collar with a chain out of her cleavage while talking passionately to Tatsumi.
"I WILL KILL YOU, BITCHFLAKE!" He shouted angrily. Wave was sitting across from them, and he was unsure of what was taking place. He couldn't touch his food because he was further perplexed by the behavior of the ice general. His image of her was slowly taking a weird shape. Was this truly the most feared commander in the entire empire? "Drgh!" Tatsumi grabbed his fork, and lunged it with killing intent to her face, but she caught his wrist as if it were moving in slow motion.
"Even at the dinner table, you continue to defy me. Exploiting my tender moment of affection. That was very cute, Tatsumi." Esdeath giggled. Tatsumi's acts of defiance were just interpreted as acts of affection.
"What is even going on here?" Wave was clueless. "Um, forgive me for asking. But are you two in a relationship?" He decided to ask.
"But of course." Esdeath responded happily.
"Hell no!" Tatsumi blatantly said. "The only reason I'm here, is because I was sucker punched by these assholes!" He referred to Sayo. "This ice queen is just an annoyance that I picked up along the way-WOULD YOU STOP-(glomp)!" He was getting increasingly annoyed by her constant poking, and then Esdeath saw an opportunity, and put it in his mouth. He calmed down after a moment of chewing.
"Well?" She asked him. Tatsumi calmed himself after slowly tasting the meat she fed him.
"...little tough, but it's okay." He critiqued. "All right, I'll eat it!" He shook her off him, and just shook his head in disbelief. He had an annoyed frown on his face while he ate his serving.
"My, my. What a blossoming, yet curious love that is taking place." A handsome, young, blonde, man said while watching in amusement. He wore white robes and adorned black clothing beneath. He also had a wing-like accessory in his hair.
"Is that what this is, Run?!" Wave looked at him as if he was out of touch with reality.
"He's at the general's mercy! Hahaha!" A girl with auburn hair slapped the table, laughing at Tatsumi's expense. She was in the standard knight attire that the imperial police wore, but what really stood out, was the small dog-like being next to her person. This girl's name was Seryu.
"..." A shirtless, burly man wearing a mask just stayed silent as he looked at his plate. Bols was his name.
"..." The last person there was a young girl that looked to be wearing a similar uniform that Akame wore. She also had a long sword that was kept close to her, as she snacked on her bag of treats. This was Kurome.
"I do not believe we've all assembled. Where is the doctor?" Esdeath noticed there was an absence among them.
"He said he was working on a project. He wouldn't be able to attend." Kurome blandly answered.
"Hmm, I'd think he'd wish to check on his patient. Oh well. Tatsumi? Allow me to introduce you to my subordinates. Starting from the left, Run. Seryu. Wave. Kurome. And lastly, Bols. There is one more, but he evidently is preoccupied at the moment. His name is Stylish. He's a doctor and scientist that uses a Teigu that repaired your arm." She explained. "You will meet him eventually, but these five are exceptionally gifted in combat. Which is why I decided to choose each of them. Oh, and they all possess their own Imperial Arms as well."
"Sounds like a jolly good bunch." Tatsumi didn't really care. He was just focused on eating.
"You seem like a very interesting individual. But then again, I can't be one to judge based on appearance. You did after all hold your own against the general herself." Run smiled while answering honestly. Tatsumi shifted his eyes to him with interest. "You must be adept at understanding how to read your enemy."
"No, she's just a fucking monster." Tatsumi simply said.
"I-I see." Run chuckled.
"..." Tatsumi looked over to Kurome. She just sat there idly by, while just munching on her snacks. "..you know, your resemblance looks very familiar." He nodded his head to Kurome. "You wouldn't happen to have glutton in your family tree, would you?" He deadpanned.
"Glutton?" Kurome tilted her head. Her mouth was full, and she already had another cookie in her mouth. Not too mention, she was the first to clear her plate.
"Okay, now I'm certain. She must be the sister Akame told me about. Her face is nearly identical, and that uniform, and plated armor. I wonder if that was what the empire's standard uniform was, for that assassination school she attended." Tatsumi observed.
"Now that you mention it, you kinda look like that Akame assassin on the wanted posters." Wave commented.
"Yes...she's my older sister. She betrayed the empire, and me." She swallowed. "It's unforgivable. She's the reason I came to the capital. So I could see her..and then make her my doll." She said ominously.
"Ugh." Wave was a little creeped out. Tatsumi narrowed his eyes at her.
"She looks like trouble. If she's got anything like Akame's abilities, she might be as dangerous as her." Tatsumi could see a void in her eyes. It was just like Akame's, except a bit more from the calm and collected, and more towards the calm and psychotic.
"Rest assured, we will hunt them down, even if we must go to the ends of the world. No one can escape my grasp. Not even Night Raid." Esdeath calmly ate her share.
"Yeah, good luck with that." Tatsumi scoffed.
"You sound like you know something on the subject?" Run interjected. "From my understanding, the general has no equal in the empire."
"Oh, is that a fact?" Tatsumi sarcastically said. "Who came up with that one? The empire?" He shook his head.
"This guy has balls! He's just outright, slandering general Esdeath like it's nothing!" Wave was sweating nervously.
"You don't die on the battlefield, you tend to think you're unbeatable. The strongest? The most feared? People often reflect these things onto others, thinking it will yield the same result." Tatsumi took a drink. "Esdeath is powerful, their's no denying that."
"You're speech tells me otherwise." Esdeath peeked at him from the corner of her eye.
"I'm amazed you picked up on my subtle remark of sarcasm. I'm flattered you acknowledged it." Tatsumi just looked away from her.
"So does that mean you recognize my superiority?" She giggled, as she too partook of a drink.
"I said you're powerful. I never said you couldn't be killed" He had a bored look in his eyes as he took one more drink. The whole room was flooded with tension after that last sentence. Run, Bols, Seryu, and Kurome shifted their eyes to Tatsumi. Wave was sweating bullets. Finding it difficult to even eat. He couldn't tell, but it was like he saw the physical manifestation of a smiling devil coming from Esdeath, and the image of a bored, green falcon from Tatsumi.
"That's a bold claim. No one is as powerful as Esdeath! She punishes evil with just a flick of the wrist! She delivers justice for the sake of the people! Don't you think you're being rude!?" Seryu couldn't take it anymore, and angrily lashed out at Tatsumi.
"...hahahahaha." Tatsumi couldn't help but let out a laugh.
"Wh-what are you laughing at?!" Seryu demanded an answer.
"You're an idiot." Tatsumi simply said.
"What!?" She slammed both her hands on the table and stood up.
"I said you're an idiot. Stupid. Ignorant. A fool. A dumb bitch. And quite frankly a fraction of intelligence acute to that of a child who's biggest achievement in life, was learning how to shut the fuck up." Tatsumi quickly said. "But if my sentence was too descriptive and complicated for your pea-sized brain to comprehend...you're an idiot." He concluded.
"You...! What is with that foul way of disrespect!? I never did anything to you! Why are you being mean to me?!" She pointed at him enraged.
"Oh, I'm gonna have so much fun with you." Tatsumi snickered.
"Don't mind Tatsumi, just like Esdeath, he derives pleasure from another's expense. Once you take the bait, you're gonna be regretting it in the next few sentences." Sayo suddenly appeared out of the door, sporting her black combat gear. All heads turned to her. Esdeath did not seem happy she was there. Evident by a cool breeze that emenated from her.
"Who are you?" Seryu asked with a sudden switch in facial expression.
"I'm a spy. Tatsumi has a more detailed description, but all you need to know is that I'm the future emperor's eyes and ears." She hinted at. "And I came to snag him." She pointed at Tatsumi.
"Can you not see we are having a romantic dinner? Stop bothering us." Esdeath was quick to deny her. "If you're looking to use Tatsumi for your next mission, he is not fully ready for it. In fact, he's just coming to grips with his situation." She smiled at Tatsumi and ruffled his head.
"He was starved, put under, for almost two weeks. And he nearly killed Honest in the blink of an eye. Trust me, he's more than had enough time to recuperate." She pointed out. "But that just goes to show that I know more about him, than you." She smiled happily.
"..." Esdeath suddenly froze the floor under the table in an instant after Sayo's remark.
"Besides, you should know by now you can't defy me. Plus, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't be enjoying your little dinner with him. Being grateful would certainly not be beneath you. And I wasn't asking" She held up the scroll with his signature.
"That annoying scrap of paper is weightless like your authority, Peacekeeper. Don't make the mistake of thinking that he's yours. His flesh, soul and blood are all mine." Esdeath held him close protectively. "He is the only one who I am fated to be with, and he will be mine forever." She coldly stated while glaring daggers at the bowmen.
"Let go of me, Ice tits-mmf!" He tried to pull free, but that just encouraged her to sink him deeper in her cleavage. Esdeath wasn't even concerned with his rambling. In fact, she was completely oblivious to his rants of denying her affection.
If you could even call it that.
"Don't worry, Esdeath, I'll bring him back after we're done. I just need to get him familiar with our work. Besides, Tatsumi is capable of making his own decisions. Unless you want me to pull rank, snowflake?" She cracked a smile.
"Hoh~?" Esdeath narrowed her eyes in annoyance. The entire room was dropping in temperature. And waves of killing intent flooded the room.
"This feeling...!" Wave sweated. "These two really hate each other." He said aloud. He felt small and insignificant in their presence.
"..." Bols wasn't even moving. He probably thought it best to not get entangled in their conflict.
"Lets go." Sayo jerked her head back. Esdeath let Tatsumi go, to everyone's surprise. Tatsumi shook his head and dusted himself off. But suddenly Esdeath grabbed him by the collar and kissed him deeply in front of everyone.
"Oh my~!" Seryu blushed.
"Goodness." Run was a bit surprised.
"..mmm, ahh." Esdeath left his lips, with a satisfied look in her icy blue eyes. "Look forward to another serving, when you return." She seductively whispered.
"Oh boy, I can't wait." Tatsum blushed slightly, but he still had enough composure to get in one last sarcastic remark, with what little dignity he had at this point. He excused himself from the table, and walked over to Sayo. After he walked past her, Sayo scoffed and followed him. The room was left with an awkward atmosphere, but Esdeath soon spoke up.
"I apologize for the mood, everyone. That wretched spy master is a thorn that recently has been poking and prodding at my side." She explained. "Please enjoy the rest of the meal." She smiled at them and offered.
"That guy was...interesting." Wave could finally breathe. With Tatsumi there, it was like he kept poking a sleeping lion with a stick.
"It's a depth of love that only Esdeath could ever know, I suppose." Run smiled.
"Tatsumi may be defiant, but that's what spurs him to have potential to grow. He's already at the level he could scratch me. With a bit more training and experience, he could become a worthy opponent." Esdeath carefully sliced a piece of meat and eyed. "And I've already had a taste of him." She referred to the night they slept together before taking a bite. "I can see his unwavering resolve being devoted to me. I just have to give him a little push in the right direction. And then we'll truly...be as one." She had a determined look in her eyes as smiled.
Elsewhere...
Tatsumi was being escorted by Sayo to an armory in the castle. When the doors swung open, there were a vast number, and variants of swords, spears, maces, bows, you name it. Multiple shelves, and racks lined with suits of armor plating and shields were also there.
"Welcome to the armory." Sayo introduced as she spun around and holding her hands out to reveal it all. "Pick what you need, and we'll be on our way."
"You sure you wanna show me where the sharp objects are?" Tatsumi asked as he examined everything around them.
"If you were looking to go at Honest, he ain't here right now. Ever since you took up residence, he's took to locking himself in the kitchen with numerous guards." She shrugged. "Stress eating is a habit of his." She scoffed and leaned back against the wall with her arms crossed.
"He's right to be scared shitless." Tatsumi said while he kept browsing the various weapons.
"Yeah, you must have left an impression on him after that audience you had with him." Sayo nodded.
"Yeah...hm?" He shifted his eyes to a vault door that was in the back of the room.
"Ah, yes. That door houses the remaining Teigu that were destroyed, but recovered by the kingdoms historians. None of them work, but they have some sentimental value from what I hear."
"Sentimental value. Riiight~." Tatsumi shook his head.
"If I may, could I make a recommendation?" She appeared behind him with a smile. She then motioned for him to follow, and they walked over towards a corner of the room. She then grabbed a red chest that was lying on the ground, and put it on one of the cushioned benches that were present. She faced it towards Tatsumi, and then slowly opened it. When it was opened, inside was a set of about twenty throwing knives, and two black combat knives that had straight edges, and then were slanted at the ends. Tatsumi picked up one of the throwing knives, and twirled it around his hand. He then looked at a practice dummy that had armor on it. He flipped the knife up and grabbed it upside down, and then threw it. It pierced the armor and stuck into the padded mannequin like a hot knife through butter.
"Like it?" Sayo asked him.
"Passable." Tatsumi scoffed. "I'll take these and the daggers. A short sword would be preferable to." Tatsumi nodded.
"..."
"What?" Tatsumi noticed her lack of words, but she kept her smile up.
"I just...am glad to be working with you again." She shrugged.
"...?" Tatsumi raised his eyebrow.
"And also.." She then stepped forth, close to his face, and kissed him. It wasn't like Esdeath's, but more like just lips touching, and staying in contact. after a moment, she pulled back, and smiled with a wink. "...I don't like to be left out~." She chuckled. Tatsumi blushed a little, but had an annoyed look.
"Stop trying to throw me off." He grumbled.
"Why? Falling for me again?"
"I'd rather die."
"Don't worry Tatsumi. I get the feeling this is the start of a long, beautiful relationship." She patted his shoulder.
"Shut up." Tatsumi walked away from her to go fetch one of the short swords. "Alright." He found one to his liking. It had a black leather grip, a spiked pommel, and was double edged. "Who we hunting?" He asked.
"We're hunting a hero." She threw him his old jacket, and he caught it and put it on. "His name is Turk. He's been acting as a vigilante in the capital, claiming he's on the same side of justice, and he also fights for the poor."
"By justice you mean..?" Tatsumi began putting the knives in the hidden elastic bands that were in his coat.
"Killing guys like Zank, Honest, and, you know. The usual scumbags." She shrugged.
"He's not a rebel, is he?" Tatsumi glanced up, ready to deny her if he was going to be killing good person.
"Don't worry, I won't have you kill people affiliated with the Revolutionary Army. That's what I do." She pointed to herself. "But this guy's sense of justice is racking up a lot of collateral. For the past month, he's been hitting the gunpowder reserves around the capital. He leveled a whole block of houses that belonged to innocent people. The fire spread, and a few got burned alive." She went into detail. "He also killed a few guards that were sending relief supplies to a village that was loyal to the emperor. He took all the supplies, and diverted it to a place that did not even need it. They painted him a hero, and word got around about some noble rogue that was standing up to the empire's tyranny and all that crap."
"He blew up a rifle storehouse next to a bunch of buildings, IN, the capital?" Tatsumi furrowed his eyes. "Idiot. A fire like that won't go out for hours." He shook his head.
"Yeah, he also steals from rich slave merchants, and lords that visit the brat on the throne. When it got royalty involved, they decided to put a bounty on his head. But he's been laying low in the slums, and no one can really be bothered, or rather don't want to go to that part of the city. But this guy is a pain in the ass, and Budo wants him gone. So on that note, we're going to put his crusade to an abrupt end." She nodded.
"How come this guy wasn't scouted for the rebels? Granted his methods sound like a complete amateur, but they could show him how to do it correctly." Tatsumi found it odd that such a person wasn't even hired on by the rebels. He sounded like their kinda poster boy.
"Probably because he tries to be flashy. I heard in the brothel that he actually uses money to get service there, ALL the time. After sticking it in a few of the ladies there for so long, they told me he wanted them to run away with him. But, a life on the run from the empire didn't appeal to them." She scoffed. "So he killed one of them. Because she wanted to stay to pay her debt off there, and go home to her older brother. He thought she was gonna betray him, but she had no reason to, because she never liked money. So, I told 'em I'd have him dead before the days out."
"How...noble of you, Sayo." Tatsumi mocked. "And what do you get out of it?"
"Nothing. This one's a freebie." She smiled.
"What?" Tatsumi just stood there confused.
"Besides, I'm not gonna kill him. You are. Plus, I need to get your career as my slave started, so the brat recognizes you as an asset. See, I told him he was working for the rebels, and that he was their inside man in the capital. And that if you killed him, it would prove that you had no more connection with them, as you had with us. I'm trying to depict you as a mercenary, who just started his career, and only heard one side of the story. And was swindled and betrayed by Night Raid, after they coerced you into thinking the empire was your enemy. "
"Don't make up my life's story." Tatsumi had a tick mark.
"If you want I could also throw in we were lovey-dovey as kids." She leaned forth and smiled. "I'm not making that one up."
"Focus on the mission, Sayo." Tatsumi glared at her.
"Heheh, anyway, we're gonna hit up the slums, interview the head hostess of the brothel, and we're gonna kill the 'sonuvabitch." Sayo crossed her arms.
"Fine. I'll kill him." Tatsumi sighed. "Just try not to shoot me in the back while we're working." He instructed.
"I told you. I'm gonna be straight with you form here on out. Everything I've done to you, was so I could help you get stronger. But you're not at a level where you can survive killing Honest. That greasy sleaze is gonna do anything he can to keep you away from him. And with Esdeath here, you're not gonna be able to touch him. Once you get stronger, I'll help you kill him." She bumped her fist to his chest.
"I don't need help, Sayo. I will kill him, my way. Not anybody else's." Tatsumi sternly said. "I still don't trust you...but why would you even suggest helping me?"
"I told you.." She then slowly hugged him, and propped her chin on his shoulder, her eyes devoid of life. "You and me are the only one's that matter." She said once more. Tatsumi just bowed his head in silence.
"Now c'mon! Turk isn't gonna kill himself." She pulled away and lead him to the door.
"..." Tatsumi shook his head followed. "I can't tell if she's psychotic or not."
Later...
Once again we find Tatsumi in the lower districts of the city, the familiar look of poor, and lower class citizens around and about. Tatsumi was wearing his normal brown boots, black pants, green shirt, and brown overcoat. Sayo was wearing her black leather knee high boots, and a black kimono, and black shorts. She also had black leather gloves that ran up to her elbows, and a couple quivers that were strapped to her back. She had her short bow in hand, and was walking next to Tatsumi. They arrived at the brothel from before, and Tatsumi recalled the first time he went in here, and discovered Sayo was alive.
"What is it? Remembering that skimpy outfit I wore?" She teased. Noticing he was lost in thought.
"...no. Just you." Tatsumi said with a blank look.
"Tell you what. Maybe when this is over, I could show you it again, and this time we could really get it on." She leaned back against the door and offered with a lust filled stare in her eyes.
"Unless you wanna die again, I'd suggest you keep your eye on the ball." Tatsumi smiled with cold dead eyes.
"Oh, but I am." She poked him playfully.
"Fuck off." Tatsumi shoved the door open, and she twirled around him and followed him in.
Once more Tatsumi entered the whore house, but it looked to be a bit more empty than before. In fact, it looked like there was no one there, except the ladies themselves. Sayo led them, and then proceeded. As they walked by, Tatsumi was getting glances from from most of them. They cooed and waved at him in inviting manners, as if it were their normal routine.
"Well hello there, young master." Tatsumi was stopped by a woman who was wearing a dark red corset, and a black dress that had a slit up the side, exposing the sides of a stringed thong hanging off her hip. "Welcome to Madam's House. Are you here for comfort? Or a lending ear? Or maybe a companion for the night?" She had messy, long, dark purple hair that went down to her waist that was obstructing one of her yellow eyes. She slowly wedged his arm into her large bust and nearly enveloped it.
"Sayo, get this leech off me." Tatsumi deadpanned. Not even the least bit caring, or enticed by the sexual appeal of the mature beauty. Sayo turned around and smiled at the woman.
"Sorry, Miss Eggy. But Tatsumi's preference is around my type." She apologized.
"I beg to differ, she's got bigger tits than you." Tatsumi huffed.
"Give me a chance. If you want, I could try breast expansion diets." She offered as she fondled herself.
"Oh, that'd be great. Then you would be easier to hit." Tatsumi mocked, with a spiteful stare.
"Ohh~? What a shame. But young master, if you ever really need a big sister, I can fulfill that forbidden fantasy with just a coin or two. But seeing as you're here with little miss Peacekeeper, it must be business." She offered once more. She then plucked a pipe from her cleavage, and extended it, before lighting it with a nearby candle that was on one of the tables. "You must be the assassin from Night Raid, that I've heard so much about." She sat on a stool and crossed her long, slender, yet, plump legs over one another.
"..?!" Tatsumi was surprised she knew.
"Don't be tense now. I know everything that goes on around here. Whether it's political, religious, or racial, this entire district in under my control." She let out a fruit smelling smoke cloud from her mouth. "Thanks for doing away with Ogre by the way. My girls were always half alive when they serviced him. The crazy bastard was like a unchained beast that took the pleasure from agony and pain, rather than a gentlemen." She lowered her pipe and let out a sigh. "He'd always come straight to the bar, and then this place after interrogation of some poor sod. You have my thanks." She bowed her head slightly.
"Hm." Tatsumi looked away with no comment.
"But enough of that, what can I do for the empires young spymaster, and her cute little follower?" She asked Sayo.
"Turk." Sayo said, and suddenly everyone in the room was silently gasping. Eggy didn't even react, but simply took another smoke.
"Lunch break. All of you." She nudged her head, and then they all quickly went up stairs. She then exhaled a cloud before answering.
"I heard he's been laying low in this district. Anyone seen him?" Sayo asked as her and Tatsumi took a seat on both sides of her.
"If they did, I'd have ripped his cock off, and then fed it to him. He hasn't been poking his head out lately. But if he left the lower district, I would have known. So, he's still here, he's just waiting for things too cool off in the upper district." She explained. "Why? Has the so called 'hero' gone to great lengths to offend someone in the council's inner circle?" She assumed.
"Fuck those guys, this is on the house." Sayo scoffed.
"Oh?" Eggy blinked.
"Actually, Tatsumi is my partner now. And to prove himself, he's gonna kill the bastard for me." Sayo pointed.
"Hoh~? This innocent, looking, young master?" She eyed Tatsumi. Granted, anything other than his stoic glare made him seem like your average country bumpkin. "Granted, I heard you put Ogre down, but I have to admit. You definitely seem to be a bit young for that." She noted. "Ah, but younger means being full of energy, and more bold." She crossed her legs to give Tatsumi a look at her bare skin. "If I tell you, can you do it?" She bent forth and pushed her chest up with the back of her hand. She watched Tatsumi like a hawk, seeing if his eyes deviated from hers.
"..." Tatsumi glanced toward a knife that was next to his elbow. He then picked it up, and then got off and walked away from the bar. He twirled it around in his hand as he walked away, till he was about thirty or so feet away. Sayo sat back and smiled like she was expecting something.
"Hold out your pipe." Tatsumi called out.
"Oh? A demonstration. I do enjoy young men proving themselves." She twirled it around and held out the end.
"No, the mouth piece." Tatsumi pointed out.
"What? You can't hit that accurately from that-"
"..!" Tatsumi's killing intent flooded the room for a moment before he whipped his hand out, and a silver glint flashed past Eggy's face, and sliced the mouth piece of her pipe clean off. Her eyes widened, and she felt death was upon her for a moment. Her eyes slowly moved to her pipe, and she looked behind her, and the small knife was deeply embedded in the wooden wall past the bar. She looked back at Tatsumi, and was baffled. "I'm sorry, was I moving too fast for 'ya?" Tatsumi said sarcastically with an annoyed look.
"No...in fact, you just might be quick enough~." She blushed and felt a tingle from the instant life or death feeling.
