Chapter 2: The Secret
Santana looks to the front of the class as Brittany went over the quiz from the previous week. The test scores had been much better than they had been the week prior, and Brittany had bought all the passing students donuts just as she had promised. Only five students failed the test. All in all, it was a massive improvement for those who didn't get an 'A.'
Santana is one student that got 100%, so she was spending the period doodling all over her notebook. She'd stare at Brittany now and again, being ever so careful with her leering. She couldn't help herself from longing or lusting after Brittany. Brittany has aged so well, and she wants all up on that. The setting is different. No music, no crazy lights, but every day, Santana got to see more of her.
Brittany is quirky, sweet, funny, and so so intelligent. Her sense of style is unique. Brittany had outfits that suited her, and Santana found many od them so well out together.
Santana has never experienced having a crush on a teacher, but now she knew what it is like. Santana is pinning after Brittany. She is pinning hard. She rests her head on her hand and observes Brittany. Her mind, like various times in the past few days, wanders off to the brief but passionate meeting with Brittany several years ago.
—
Santana woke up to find a rose and a note on the pillow where Brittany had rested. They'd fallen asleep with Brittany still buried in her. In the middle of the night, Brittany had woken up and placed light kisses all over her face. Brittany had woken her up with a kiss in the early hours of the morning, whispering that she dreamt about her lips before succumbing to sleep once again. She was a little unsure if she imagined that.
Santana smiles as she read the note. Brittany had gotten up to get some breakfast for them at a local restaurant. Brittany had left her number just in case she wanted to request something specific. Santana's smile faded as her phone alarm went off.
She needed to get home before her parents found out she had snuck out at night and hadn't returned. She quickly dressed up and grabbed the note on her way out.
On her way home, she stopped by the pharmacy and picked an emergency contraceptive kit. She took the two pills with some water and made her way home.
—
The bell rings, bringing an end the class period and shaking Santana from her little trip down memory lane. She quickly gathers her things before making her way over to Quinn, who was flirting with Puck.
She snuck one last glance at Brittany, who was writing a brain teaser for her next class. She sighs. Santana doesn't know what to do. Brittany refuses to talk about their past, time, and time again. Brittany will not speak to her. She takes one last glance at Brittany. She shakes her head and rolls her eyes at how pathetic she is.
She raises her head and looks forward, where she walks quickly to catch up with Quinn and Puck.
—
Brittany instantly relaxes when Santana leaves the room. She hates that she can feel Santana watching her in class. She hates that she loves when she can feel Santana's eyes roaming her body. She will never admit that she chooses every outfit with Santana in mind. She shouldn't want that attention, but she and Santana share a memory. On most days, she tried to forget it. Some days, it was nearly impossible to do so.
She sighs and shakes her head at her foolishness. Here she is, this hot piece of ass, wasting away because if one night she spent with a girl that lied to her. Brittany was better than that. Brittany is the type of girl that is chased after. She needed to go out and find a distraction.
She nods in approval of her plan. She digs into her purse and gets her phone out before she opens Tinder up.
—
Santana is sitting at her tables with her fellow Cheerios and some of the football players and overhears a group of boys talking about hot Brittany is. She clenches her jaw and stabs at her food as the boys.
"Miss. Pierce keeps giving me the sex eyes. She wants all up on my D," Robert says.
Santana watches as Malcolm laughs at Robert, "Nah Nah. No way. You could never get a girl like her. She looks like the kind of girl that would be into taller guys. Plus, she would never date a dumb ass like your self."
"You losers are lame. She totally wants all up on my Puckasuarus." She hears Puck say.
Santana smirks. All these idiots had no fucking clue. Brittany was gay, and she would never go for any of these losers.
"Oh please. You all look like the rejected pile of cabbage dolls. Plus, you all smell homeless. Do you even shower? I can smell the mediocre stench covered up very badly by the half bottle of Axe body spray you all shared. Do us a favor and just disappear." She points a finger to the table next to them.
The football players roll there eyes bit know better than to test Santana. If they were to do so, Santana and Quinn would make sure none of them got any action from anyone.
"Come on, man, let's go," Puck says as he pulls away from a very pissed off Quinn.
—
Brittany walks into the club, looking fabulous as always. She spent a good amount of time on her outfit, knowing she was going to meet up with one of her matches. The music is loud, and the dance floor was calling her name. Since she is here early, she decided to dance.
As she dances, someone joins her. They share a smile and continue to dance. She has no plans to dance to close to this person as she already has plans to meet someone, so she keeps a fair amount of distance between them.
The mystery woman turns out to be a fantastic dancer. Brittany always is appreciative of people who can keep up with them. She is thirsty, though, and she is sure the other woman is, too.
"Let's go get a drink."
"I'd like that."
Brittany and the woman go to the bar. Under new lights, Brittany can clearly see her. She's gorgeous and oddly looks familiar to her.
She orders for herself and lets the other girl order her drink. She tries to figure out where she knows this girl and what her name is.
"This is going to sound rude, and I am sorry, but I feel like I know you from somewhere."
"We went to school together. You were dating Stacey. Our circles mingled." The other woman offers as a clue not quite yet revealing her name.
"Ah, Stacey," Brittany says, nodding at the mention of her ex-girlfriend. She smiles at the many memories that flooded her mind of her first girlfriend. Her mind shifts from Stacey and their memories to trying to figure out who this girl was.
"Michelle!" Calls out a familiar voice.
Brittany smiles as she recognizes the other familiar face. She had almost forgotten how small Lima was. In front of her stood two very familiar people from her past—Michelle, who she now knew the name of, and Stacey, her old high school romance.
"Britt, omg," Stacey says as she hugs her. "I didn't know you were back."
"Stacey, hey," Brittany says as she hugs her back, "I moved back about a month ago. I have a new job. It's temporary. I am trying to figure out what to do next."
The reconnected group of friends chats away until Brittany gets a text from her date. "I'd love to stay and chat, but I have a date."
They exchange numbers, and Brittany hugs them before she leaves.
As she makes her way over to her date, her phone vibrates. She checks it and finds two text messages from unknown numbers. One was from Stacey, her ex, and the other was from Michelle, an old friend. Once she found her date, she smirked.
The night kept getting better and better.
—-
Santana rushes into science class, not caring to wait for Quinn, who was making out with Puck by their lockers. She prefers to spend that time admiring Brittany while waiting for others to arrive.
Brittany turns to look at her as she entered the room. Santana can't fight the smirk that appears in her face when she notices Brittany's eyes check her out.
She decided to be a little daring and drops her notebook on purpose. She locks her eyes with Brittany's, turns around and bends over to pick it up. She is slowly standing up straight, wanting to make sure Brittany gets a good look at her ass.
She waits a few seconds and then stands up straight, turning around to find a flustered Brittany.
—
Brittany should have put on the 'Do Not Disturb' option on her phone. She had projected her notes onto the SmartBoard from her computer using the Apple TV, and everyone saw the message from the girl from last night asking her on a second date.
Luckily, it was a simple invitation, but she had not planned on her sexual orientation being out like that for all her students to know. Sure, the class didn't know much, but they knew she was into girls.
"See Puck. She wouldn't be into any of you guys anyway. Miss. Pierce doesn't swing that way."
Brittany hears Santana say. The rest of the class laughs.
Brittany had to keep calm. Whatever Santana was playing at was not cool. She wasn't going to let Santana walk all over her, much less, undermine her role as the teacher. Brittany knew what she had to do.
"Santana, you need to see me after school today for distributing my class. You should let your coach know you have detention today."
To her dismay, Santana scoffs, "I don't think you know how things work around here. The Cheerios don't get detention, Miss. Pierce."
It's hard for Brittany not to want to give in. Even when she's passed off and being mean, Santana is still so hot. She needs to, though, as much as she doesn't want to.
"No, I don't think you understand how things are. You either show up to detention, or you're failing my class. I wasn't born yesterday, Santana. If you don't show up, you're off the squad. It's your choice."
Santana rolls her eyes, "Fine." She says with an attitude.
—
Santana couldn't help it. She had been awful to Brittany, but upon seeing that message from one chick, Santana refuses to name made her upset.
She hated the very thought of Brittany dating other women. Santana wanted to be the one asking Brittany on another date. She wanted to be the one with a heart smiley next to her name in Brittany's phone.
"I hate her," she says as she slammed her locker as she fit her math books out.
It was the end of her class, and she had to stay in detention with Brittany.
"Quinn, you really don't have a choice. I will let Coach Sue know that you got detention."
Santana fails to correct Quinn's assumption of her being mad at Brittany instead of the mysterious person she's dating.
"Ugh, this shit is so stupid." She says.
"San, you know I would totally do something to get in there with you, but if both of us are in there, Coach She will kill us."
"Thanks, Q, you're right. I'll just go."
The two of them hug before parting ways.
—
Brittany tries to focus on the homework she is grading. She can feel Santana's eyes on her. She always feels Santana's eyes on her.
She refuses to allow herself a glimpse at Santana. She knows that if she does, Santana will know what she really thinks when she looks at her.
She presses the pencil harder, breaking it as she does so. The anger fills her. She wants to scream and shout at Santana for lying all those years ago.
That night had been so memorable to Brittana, and now that she knew the truth, that memory was tainted with guilt. Every time she thought about it now, it made her angry.
She grunts in frustration before sharpening the pencil. Her eyes locking with Santana's in the process. Just as quickly as the anger had risen inside her, it quickly faded.
—
Santana's mouth goes agape when Brittany finally looks at her. The furrow on Brittany's face fading when their eyes lock. She swallows at the butterflies swarm marking in her stomach. Even with no words and the distance between them, Brittany's gaze makes her feel like the most beautiful person in the world. She thinks that this might be her chance to bring up the last.
The moment is short-lived; however when Brittany's phone starts ringing. She watches as Brittany breaks their gaze and answers her phone.
"Hey," she hears Brittany reply cheerfully.
Brittany's eyes lock with hers again. There's a glint of something in them, but she doesn't know what it is.
"No, that sounds perfect. I would love to go grab some sushi."
Santana scoffs. She understands it now. Brittany wants to set boundaries while making it clear about where she stands.
Santana can't take another second if this. She gets up and walks out.
—-
Brittany follows Santana through the window of her door. She watches as her ponytail sways back and forth in sync with her hips. She wants to chase her. As much as she shouldn't want to, she does. She wants to tell her that she's all she sees and thinks about. She wants to say to her that all the other girls in her life will never hold a candle to her. They don't even come close. But she can't. She can't because of the rules. She can't because Santana lied to her so long ago, and it doesn't matter how much she wants her. She can't. She can't, and it fucking sucks.
"Britt, are you there?" She hears on the line.
Brittany shakes her head, focusing on the girl she has on the line.
"7 o'clock. I will be there." She says with a smile.
After confirming the location once more, she hands up. Her smile quickly fading. It wasn't real. She knows she is only following herself. The other is a great girl. She is beautiful, but she is no Santana. She knows she can't keep using this other woman as a distraction. She accepted the invitation for a second date, and the chances are that she will accept a few more dates. Eventually, though, she will end it before it becomes something more.
She needs a little bit more of a distraction.
—
It's been three weeks since Brittany had started teaching at Mckinley. Santana had stepped up her game. She sucked on lollipops just as her math and science classes started so that Brittany could tell her to throw it away. Oh, how she loved to tease Brittany by sucking and licking the lollipop suggestively, all while looking into her eyes.
Though she only craves one set of blue eyes on her, she has gotten many admirers. The gay girls had been the only ones to make a move since they knew she was gay, but the boys openly admire her. She doesn't care about them, though. She only cares about Brittany and getting her attention. Each time Brittany's eyes land on her, Santana smiles. She counts each one of them. Cherishes each one that is directed at her.
She adores the way Brittany gets flustered. Her cheeks turn so pink from all the embarrassment and anger of having been caught. It is endearing and so, so confusing because no matter how many times Santana tries to talk to her, Brittany won't let her. Brittany was always quick to end all conversations with her.
Santana has resorted to volunteering more in class just so Brittany will say her name. On days she doesn't call on her, Santana uses her vicious, vicious words to say something rude. Santana wishes she didn't have to stoop so low just to be able to talk to her. Brittany always tells her to apologize and then threatens to give her detention if she keeps it up. She did. She gets detention every single time. It is some sort of game they play. In detention, they don't even talk. At first, Brittany would be looking at her bit now. They sit and stare at each other. There are no smiles, no words, and no flirty eyes. It is just the two of them having this silent conversation. Santana always tries to convey an apology with her eyes. Though she hates the anger, she can see in Brittany's eyes. There was always something lingering underneath the anger in her eyes. That lingering look in her eyes left Santana craving more. So much so that they continue to keep up this game. It isn't enough for Santana.
Santana had so many words. There are so many things Santana needs to explain. Things that She never thought she would have the chance to tell her. Brittany coming onto her life a second time is not a coincidence. She is convinced of that.
These are silly games, but one of these days, Santana is going to tell Brittany all the things she so desperately wants to say to her. Some day Brittany will know all the things she's been keeping from her. She hopes she doesn't have to wait too long.
—
Brittany bites her lip as Santana leaves her room when her detention is over. Its only last 15 minutes, but Brittany hangs on to each one so desperately. She closes her eyes and sniffs the scent left behind by her.
She stopped dating the woman from a few weeks ago. After the firth date, Brittany ended things with her. She gave some lame excuse about incomparability. She isn't sure if she did the best thing for herself. A relationship could be just what she needs, but she can't bring herself to get herself invested with anybody else.
The one thing Brittany is sure about is that her head is a mess. It continually is at war with her heart. She knows that if she lets Santana talk to her, there is no turning back. She wants to know, though. She wants to hear every explanation Santana has for her. She wants to hear everything about that night. It is driving her crazy that she doesn't know.
For now, she will continue to let herself be miserable as she pins after Santana.
She smiles when she reads a text message from Stacey. At least she could find comfort in familiarity. Lima has a lot of that.
