YOU'RE WHAT!
Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.
The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.
"We've received a sort of warning last night which now, thanks to the videos, we are made aware of, so, now we need to be more alert and on the watch for it happening again. Then we can make a move to stop it before the danger can get close to our guys again." Rosalie added.
No further words were exchanged as all persons viewed the videos once more to become more familiar with the warning signs that had unknowingly appeared last night.
CHAPTER 6: SOME PLANS DON'T MAKE US HAPPY
The three FBI agents and the two U. S. Marshalls watched as a strawberry blonde haired woman walked away from a table in the far back of the room where three rugged looking men sat as she approached the bar where Edward, Emmett and Jasper were seated drinking and fighting the attention of two other women that were trying to score a date and free ride for the night.
The three guys would turn the ladies down, toss away the name each woman had written down, then do a quick, sly glance around the room and then go back to talking with each other until the next woman approached them. This took place at all three clubs the guys went to last night before they called it a night and each went to their own home.
The strawberry blonde try approaching the guys at all three locations, but, the men she met with were different at each place, but, their positioning was the same; a table at the far back and out of the mainstream of things. Back enough to be able to blend in and unnoticeable. They would never have been seen or stood out if it hadn't been for the fact that Felix had had the brilliant idea of videoing instead of still shots.
This definitely gave the agents and Marshalls an edge to be able to try to locate and identify the men in their systems. It also gave them the necessary information that a mole was operating somewhere within one of the departments involved. Otherwise, no one would have been the wiser as to the existence of any witnesses this soon in this situation, let alone who they were.
"Since it seems that we do have a mole reporting back on the activities concerning our witnesses I would suggest that we tighten security a bit more and keep information from this point onwards strictly on a 'need to know" basis." Bella told everyone present.
"I agree, but, we also need to decide how we're going to trace backwards to find the informant." Rosalie remarked.
"Yeah, because at this point we have no idea which agency the person is located in. We have three that we have to be concerned about since those are the ones involved in this situation: the Attorney General's office, the U. S. Marshall's office or our agency." Alice added. "Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we need to start to try to find this person?"
Each of the five individuals in the conference room looked around at the other occupants while trying to mentally work through what little information they have due to the videos they had just watched. Weighing through all the evidence that was made clear because of the actions of one strawberry haired blonde woman and the hoods she appeared to be associated with. But what was missing was any indicators as to who might be supplying the inside information that put the three witnesses in harm's way and threatens their security.
"I think we may need to step up our game, but, reduce the amount of people that contribute to gathering information for this to only the ones in this room." Felix offered to the assembled group.
"Felix, do you have a plan in mind?" Bella asked.
"Not really, but, just common sense at this point to help keep our witnesses safer while looking to see who is selling information and while we make the necessary arrests of all that was involved in the original reason why we are protecting these three men.
"We are having to identify the perpetrators from the descriptions our witnesses gave us and make those arrests. Of course, we all know that they will bond out before the ink is completely dry on the warrants, but, we will still be building stronger cases against them and the people they work for that will take them off of the streets for a long time.
"So, with that in mind I would suggest that we keep the field narrowed down to only us; we would be the only ones to run any new checks such has arisen from the videos while the checks and procedures that are already assigned continue as established."
"That would call for overtime and extra work, but, I must agree that it would be wiser from this point to keep any new information and checks to ourselves to avoid any further leakage." Bella agreed while everyone else was nodding in agreement as well.
"I have just one question, though, I'm in agreement with the idea, but, won't the fact that we aren't giving over any new information for follow ups draw attention to the fact that we suspect someone is playing dirty?" Alice asked.
"Mmm, you're right about that fact. We'll have to think of a way to handle this without drawing attention to our suspicions." Sam remarked. "I would suggest before we call it a day that we all sit down and come up with a workable game plan that would allow us to handle new facts without alerting anyone that we might be on to what they're doing."
So, more time was put in while the five tossed ideas back and forth until they came up with what they thought was a workable plan to keep their witnesses safe and sound while allowing them, as much as possible, to live a normal life until such time it became dangerous for them to do so.
It was decided that the three thugs from the first club would be turned over for normal channels to run through the systems. And, as new information arose they would continue to hand over only a portion for normal checks. The rest of the information would be handled by Alice since she was an expert in that area; she was good enough to get into a system without being noticed and that was termed as a hackifist. She was that good at hacking into computer systems and such. But, it would be done away from the office outside of normal time spent in the office. The appearance had to be maintained by all five as if nothing was unusual or anyone suspected of being on the take.
Also, Bella, Alice and Rosalie were going to have to enter the scene a lot sooner than they had originally planned. They had wanted to take time to learn the club habits of these three guys before making their appearance, but, with the strange woman coming on to them that plan had to be altered. They needed to be in place to act as buffers for their witnesses to keep them within a safety zone. Male agents could do this to a certain extent, but, not as subtly as a female agent could. She would be able to get away with being closer than a guy could and her closeness wherever they went would be more accepted without drawing attention.
Sam and Felix would be quietly putting together a plan to catch the mole so that hole could be plugged before any real harm could come to their charges. It was also decided not to inform A. G. Black about this discovery as no one was sure if the problem existed in his department or one of the other two. Better to be safe and wise about things than to invite unnecessary trouble and Jacob Black was an unnecessary problem at this moment in the scheme of things. Sure he was in charge of the case and bringing it to court once all evidence had been gathered, but, he appeared to be totally useless when it came down to the crunch of the situation and any action that needed to be done.
"Okay, I think we've got everything decided and ready to put into place, so, with that dear ladies, we'll say good day until tomorrow. Same time, same place," and at this point, Sam pulled paper and pen towards him and began to write after tearing off one page then returns the pad towards the center of the conference table. It only took a moment from beginning to end for Sam to write the words, 'I'll bring something to sweep this room or whatever room we will be using tomorrow.'
As the other four individuals read what Sam had written they all nodded their agreement and approval for his foresight. With that last piece of work decided the five said their goodbyes and left. But, the mention of a possible bug being planted Rosalie left the room for a moment and then returned with a device to do a quick sweep of the room, but, they had been lucky that no one had been able to put something in place before the meeting to listen in to what their future plans might be.
While Rosalie was doing a quick sweep of the conference room Alice and Bella were busy gathering up the videos and all of the reports, not taking a chance of leaving anything behind that could be used to leak further information about their witnesses to the wrong people. All of the evidence was locked up in a place that only the three agents knew of. This was where they always stored evidence of whatever case they were working on to keep everything safe.
Once outside the conference room Alice, Bella and Rosalie left the office after collecting their personal items from their desks. The three had a habit of going to the local Starbuck's about that time each day for a break before continuing with their current job, whatever it might be.
Getting settled at their usual table and they began talking over everything that had been discussed this morning during the meeting with Sam and Felix. Then out of the blue Alice brings up a point that hadn't been covered during the meeting and because of its nature it was probably a good thing that it had been forgotten.
"Damn, why is it that you think we need to discuss this?"
"Because, Rose, we each are having some very hot thoughts of our three witnesses. If we go with the one that we'll having personal thoughts and dreams of then we stand of a chance of missing something that could make the difference about their safety or injury, possibly, their death."
"Alice is right. We need to decide which man we're going to be pretending to be their girlfriend. So, that being the case I would suggest that we each team up with one of the other two."
"How would you suggest we make the choice?" Rosalie asked with a bit of a chuckle.
After a pause and taking a sip of her drink, Bella spoke, "I think that you, Rosalie, should team up with Mr. Cullen, Alice should be with Mr. McCarty and I'll go with Mr. Whitlock. If either of you have a better suggestion speak now or we are decided."
Alice and Rosalie looked at each other and then looked back at Bella, but, couldn't think of anything to say. The suggested arrangement that Bella had put forth made all the sense in the world, but, it wasn't what they really wanted. It was practical, but, wasn't conducive towards leading to a deeper relationship with the one they wanted. It would definitely keep them all more alert, but, they did want to have some off duty alerts with the one of their personal choice. The current suggestion was like pitching cold water onto someone sound asleep to bring them to sudden wakefulness.
"Well, if there aren't anything further, I guess we're decided as to who we're going to be attached to." Bella said and then burst out into laughter as she saw the looks of disappointment and resignation on the faces of her fellow agents and friends.
The conversation turned more towards lighter subjects and after a bit the three left to go their separate way until later in the evening.
A/N: Okay, it looks as if a game plan is being put into place with the agreement of everyone. But, it also looks as if none of the three agents are happy with having to guard a different man other than the one they had dreams about. When will they be putting this plan into place and make the decisions known to the three guys?
