YOU'RE WHAT!

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.

"Yeah, all right. Although, we weren't aiming to grab the bitch it might turn out better in the long run. She will be easier to break and we still have a bargaining chip to force her boyfriend to come to us."

CHAPTER 18: HERE COMES CHARLIE

Charlie called Sam Uley to let him know of his arrival and wanted to meet with him immediately. Sam started to explain a bit about the situation over the phone only to be cut short by Charlie once more as he said, "Sam, I will be able to get a better understanding of everyone once I see the files, meet the people involved and hear what you all have to say. That is the only way that I can fit everything together in its correct positions and be able to know what I need to do."

So, with that said Sam agreed to meet Charlie at Bella's where Charlie had gone to stay while he was in town. He knew that Bella wouldn't mind that he was staying at her place; something he did each time he came to visit with her which, although, wasn't often, it did happen. Being a father he wanted to come to see his girls as much and as often as they came to see him.

Sam made a call to let everyone know that they all were meeting with Charlie at Bella's place as soon as they all could get there. Without saying a word all three men were suddenly busy trying to conceal the fact that they each were nervous to meet the renown Charlie Swan, parental figure to all three agents/girlfriends.

Edward hadn't wasted any time after Sam had placed the call to Bella's father. Damn, just the sound of the man's voice over the phone was enough to start giving Edward a case of nerves as he realized from all the information he had heard that Mr., no, not Mr., Chief Charlie Swan was or had been a police Chief that was well respected by all law enforcement agencies and he could legally carry a gun.

'A gun? A gun! Oh, shit,' Edward thought to himself when the realization fully hit him that it was Sam's plan for Bella's father to be his protector until such time Bella was found and he went into the courtroom to testify as to what he, Emmett and Jasper had seen. "No, that plan needed to be revisited and rethought as he wasn't sure, if after what had happened to Bella while she was protecting him, that her father wouldn't hold him responsible and decide to do something about it." Were the words one very nervous Edward Cullen uttered aloud to himself. The more he thought about the circumstances and the approaching meeting with Charlie Swan the more nervous he became.

After meeting up with Alice, Rosalie, Emmett and Jasper, he was bombarded with an endless round of questions about what had transpired during the private discussion that had taken place with Sam and Felix. In fact, his friends and their FBI guardians/girlfriends had noticed the beads of sweat breaking out on Edward's forehead and the shaking of his hands as they continued with their questioning. Add that along to their curiosity about what was going to happen to them and how they were going to get Bella back caused an endless round of questions being fired at Edward without giving him time to answer the first question before being asked another.

"Hold up a damn minute. None of you are giving me a chance to answer your questions, let alone tell you anything what Sam and Felix are planning to do."

"Did Sam call Charlie while you were there?" Alice asked. Then continued when she noticed the slight shaking of Edward's hand and the sheen of sweat on his brow, "What was that conversation like? How did Charlie react to the news of Bella's abduction?" She rapidly fired at him. Of course, her questions were nothing more than what the others had been asking.

"Alice, please, let me tell all of you what Sam and Felix are planning to do, or, at least, as much as I know, and then I'll be happy to try to answer all of you other questions."

"Okay, we're all ears." She responded back at the poor man. It seemed that the more he talked about the subject the more nervous he was beginning to display in front of his friends and the two agents.

It was then that both Jasper and Emmett began to realize that Edward wasn't quite himself and they were curious as to the reason. And, Emmett, being Emmett, had no problems asking straight out, "Hey, bro, what has you so tied up into knots? Someone threatened to shoot you or something?"

Everyone noticed Edward's reaction of becoming even more upset after Emmett had asked his question about someone shooting him. His reaction puzzled them greatly, but, also caused everyone to have huge concerns as to what has Edward reacting this way. Normally, he's more calm and over thinking things before reacting to any situation. He's the one that is always advising Emmett and Jasper to stay calm until all of the facts are known. Of course, depending on who is the level headed one between Edward or Jasper depends a great deal upon what the situation happens to be.

Edward has to display a lot of patience dealing with some of the people that he does business with since he owns a Public Relations firm and Jasper has to have a lot of patience as he deals with his clients since he owns his own Accounting firm. These are definitely two areas that if you over react, you lose. So, being involved with the type of people that are already uptight or demanding requires extreme patience and helps you to develop it very quickly.

"Okay, Edward, it's time to quit fuckin' around and tell us what's going on. You're more nervous than a cat in a room full of moving rocking chairs. Just take a deep breath, breathe in and out then tell us what Sam and Felix had to tell you. Then once that is done tell us about what you know in regards as to what was said to Charlie.

"You don't need to tell us if he's coming out here, since that's a given that both Alice and I know. That's how he is and what he does. The best way to say it is that's Charlie." Rosalie admonished Edward about his delaying tactics, but, at the same time was trying to get him to calm down and relax a bit.

Edward did as she advised and then launched into the details of how it was suggested for handling things of the immediate future, but, letting them know that nothing was said about how they were going to get Bella back. He said that it seemed like the main concern was to make sure he was protected before doing anything about getting Bella back.

"So, what is the plan to do that?" Everyone asked all at the same time.

"Sam is planning to handle protecting me as a fill in on a temporary basis until Chief Swan gets here and then to ask him to take over while things are put together to get Bella back. But,-" Edward didn't get much further before Alice and Rosalie, both, scoffed after a small snorting sound.

"Yeah, I would be surprised that Sam's suggestion to the Chief was well accepted." Rosalie said.

"Not really." Edward remarked and then continued on with what he was telling them. "Before Sam could really say too much the Chief told him to cut the pleasantries and to get down to business. It didn't take much for Bella's father to ask if something had happened to one of you. That was when Sam told him that Bella had been taken and once again before Sam could say anything further the Chief ended the call by saying that he was on his way and abruptly hung up."

Once Edward finished speaking silence seemed to take up residence amongst everyone. Then the silence was broken by Alice once more as she asked, "What is there about all of this that has you as nervous as you seem to be? And, do you have a problem with either Sam or Charlie acting as in Bella's place to protect you? Do you doubt either of their abilities to keep you safe?"

"No. No, it's nothing like that, but, how is Chief Swan going to be impartial to protecting me when I'm involved with Bella on a personal level which he had expressed his reservation and now she's missing? He does have a license for carrying a gun." Edward told all of them, but, not speaking to anyone person in particular.

After a bit of a stunned silence both Rosalie and Alice burst out laughing; they were laughing so hard they had to grab ahold of their sides due to the pain resulting from laughing so hard. The very idea that Charlie would be anything other than professional while on duty is ridiculously funny.

And, with the reactions of both women all three men were puzzled as to what about what Edward had disclosed could be causing them to behave as they were doing. Both Jasper and Emmett understood very well Edward's concerns now that he had expressed his fears. They too were having the same concerns for themselves since the father figure of Alice and Rosalie was on his way here and about to enter their lives under less than ideal circumstances. Oh, yeah, all three men were very much moving into a highly nervous state. After all they were not just dating, but, sleeping with the very women that Charlie Swan called his daughters.

The rest of the day seemed to exude a nervous state of each person due to two different incidents occurring. One Bella had been taken and secondly, was the happening of Sam acting as a stand in to keep Edward safe until Charlie Swan arrived and then he would be taking over.

Sam's temporary peace of mind that he had finally managed to gain for a short period of time was shattered by the sound of the phone ringing. Looking at his phone he saw that he was receiving the one call that he had been anxiously expecting; the one from Charlie Swan.

Sam Uley's sense of guilt that something had happened to Charlie Swan's daughter on his watch was a heavy burden that was weighing greatly on his conscious. He knew that Felix was feeling the same, but, no matter whichever way they examined the facts of the case of what had happened they just couldn't find any way that it could possibly have been prevented or actively foreseen.

Bella Swan was doing her duty in protecting her charge and not letting personal issues cloud her judgment in any way. She had gotten her charge out of harm's way and sacrificed her life and safety in doing her duty. Whatever she was or wasn't enduring at the moment has to take a back seat when a decision has to be made about keeping a Federal witness safe.

Sam did answer his phone and Charlie told him where he was staying then asked Sam to get in touch with all of the others to meet him at Bella's home. So, now Sam, after accepting and hanging up, rose to start getting things moving for everyone to meet Charlie Swan as quickly as possible. Once that's done and Edward's safety turned over to Charlie then Sam and Felix can begin the planning to get Bella back.

AN: Okay, Charlie has arrived, contacted Sam and said where and with whom he was wanting to meet. What will Charlie really do once he learns the details of what has happened to Bella? What will he have to say to Edward and the others once he meets them?

Hope you will enjoy this story and will let me know your thoughts, ideas and comments as we move forwards.
