YOU'RE WHAT!

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

"Well, since that all seems to be settled, where do you two agents propose to lodge these three for now for the duration of their arrest?" Sam asked.

CHAPTER 20: WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?

Bella was conscious enough to hear the exchange that was taking place between her tormentors and the person that seemed to be in charge. From what she was hearing and her mind was able to piece together, it was clear that none of them had any idea of who she really was, or, the fact that she was a specialized federal agent. She felt that that might work well in her favor.

As she was trying to plan, Bella realized that her mind was clouded because of the pain due to several whippings she had endured to her back and some of the leather used wrapping around her body to hit certain areas of her front side. And, at times she was aware of feeling liquid slowly dripping down her back from her shoulders to her waist. Also, she was aware of the fact that her wrists were numb; numb because of being left to hang by that part of her body alone. And, suddenly, she realized that that fact might work to her benefit.

If she could manage to lure them into a false sense of her helplessness, then she might be able to use that to her advantage in getting away. She had no worries about Edward as she knew that Alice and Rosalie would make sure he was taken care of and out of danger. Then the realization hit her that her father would be notified and there would be hell to pay for anyone that might get in his way as he was moving heaven and hell to get to her. Just in time Bella managed to catch herself to keep from smiling at that thought of her father. No, at this moment she couldn't smile if she wanted to keep them unaware of the fact that she was conscious at any extent.

"Now, Charlie, I really think that you should leave the rescue to the ones that have the resources to be able to get her." Sam was telling his old mentor as he was waiting for Alice and Rosalie to decide where they were going to house their three charges.

The guys weren't exactly happy that Alice and Rosalie had placed them under arrest as a way to keep them confined so they will stay out of the way to help retrieve Bella. They hadn't been able to talk the two women out of releasing them from 'protective custody' and from the look of things, that wasn't going to happen.

It had surprised Sam, Felix and Charlie that both Alice and Rosalie stood up to all of the men and very effectively put them in their places without being overbearing. The two women knew their job and responsibilities and wasn't going to let anyone else cross the line and take over their job. They definitely stood their ground, even, where their charges were concerned as well. The personal areas of their relationships took second place when it came to the girls doing their jobs to the best of their ability and that demonstrated as to why the ladies deserved the reputation they had earned amongst their peers.

Charlie Swan ignored Sam for the moment as he was waiting to see what Alice and Rosalie were going to do about Edward, Emmett and Jasper. This was the first time he had been able to see his girls doing their duty and he was curious as to how they work. But, he finally did look at Sam as he heard the low growl from Sam's direction and the impatient clearing of a throat.

"Sam, I have told all of you that I, and I alone, will be the one going after my daughter. The ones that did pull this off will be on the lookout for anyone from your department."

It was as Alice and Rosalie heard that last comment that Rosalie decided she needed to add her two cents worth to the mix. "Sam, Felix, I do believe that Charlie is correct." This comment caused everyone, not just the two men she addressed, to look at her in a sort of questioning surprise that was reflecting some puzzlement as well in their expressions as to why she would be agreeing with an outsider.

But, before she could continue Alice spoke up and reminded them, "You are forgetting about all of the extra investigations we have going on to try to find the leak and trying to determine which department that has the leak about our case.

"So, how does it make any sense for anyone of us, except for an outsider like Charlie, going after Bella, let alone being the ones making the plans to go after her.

"Don't you think that that information might be leaked by your mole?" Alice concluded.

That reminder, coming from both of the female agents, kind of took the wind out of both of the Marshall's sails. They looked at each other and then back over to Alice and Rosalie. "You have a point there that was forgotten for the moment.

"I can't say that it makes me happy, but, you two do have a point. Although, it doesn't make me happy, as I just said, I'm going to have to agree with the two of you. We can't afford to give away our game plan to retrieve Bella." Sam agreed with what had been said, but, was very uncomfortable doing so and he wasn't ashamed to show his feelings concerning that situation.

Charlie had remained quiet during the last exchange of remarks and reminders, but, it did disturb him to no end to just be finding out about some kind of leak that everyone had been having to contend with as well as keeping the witnesses safe from harm. 'Could the fact that a leak existed be the cause of Bella being taken?' Charlie mentally asked the question. But, he did push that thought away almost as quickly as it had passed through his mind. That was a pathway of thought that he couldn't afford to allow any sort of foothold.

In fact, it was probably best if he didn't have or hear any more about the interworking or problems that seem to be surrounding this case. It would be a distraction from what he needed to do. He had one job, and one job only: getting Bella back safely. It wouldn't be worth the extra burdens of having any of that knowledge or having someone else working with him.

It had taken him and everyone else by surprise when Edward Cullen had insisted that he wanted to go with Charlie to help get Bella. And then for the other two, more or less, chirping in demanding to go with their friend to help get Bella. Even though, Charlie appreciated the thought that everyone was wanting to help get his daughter back and that he was able to see firsthand how much she meant to everyone besides himself, Charlie worked best alone and everyone else would only get in the way. They would have their own ideas and would respond to a threat differently than he would and that could be enough to get them all killed.

It was as he reached this point in his thoughts that he realized that neither Alice nor Rosalie had mentioned where they were going to put their charges. Also, Sam hadn't commented about still handling the responsibilities of keeping Edward Cullen safe until Bella was able to resume her duties. But, once more he reminded himself that none of that was really of any benefit to him to be able to get to Bella. It was just unnecessary information that could or would act as a distraction if he allowed it.

Nothing else was said by anyone for a few minutes and then with the sound of a heavy sigh, Sam begins speaking, "I guess I have to agree about you being the most logical person to go get Bella. But, I have to add that I'm uncomfortable about allowing someone personally involved with her being the one to do the job." He paused at this period and as he was taking a deep breath to continue he saw that Charlie was about to talk, so, he held up his hand and continued, "As I just said that I'm uncomfortable with that decision for the reasons I just stated, I do know how you work, Charlie, and you don't let personal feelings or ties to interfere with what needs to be done. It for that reason, and that reason alone, that I'm agreeing to all of this and will continue to cover for Bella until such time as she can take over again."

So, with that said he walked over to take charge of Edward and then looked to Alice and Rosalie with a slightly raised brow in question as to what they're going to do with the charges. That is what led to the discussion of the care of the witnesses due to the current circumstances.

"Has she broken yet and given us any useful information?" Asked the white haired man that entered with two others.

"No, sir. She's been unconscious and in no condition for us to be able to ask any questions at the moment. We've softened her up, so, once she does come around, we'll begin finding out what she knows about her boyfriend and his fed escorts."

"Do you believe that you're going to have any problems extracting this information?"

"No, sir. We've inflicted enough pain to ensure that as we question her and she tries to play brave that all it will take is a move or a touch to bring forth an acute bout of pain. That should loosen her tongue then."

"Okay, but, we definitely want to know exactly what these men witnessed and what they've told the law. So far, our other sources aren't able to give us much information as it seems that everyone in the know has gone silent for some reason.

"The main bit of information that we need to know is if we've been tied to what these three men saw, or, overheard at the scene.

"We know for sure that they witnessed the execution and because one of them had dropped an envelope we were able to track them and almost succeeded in getting rid of them at that time. However, the job was screwed up and the guys went to the cops. After that all information become a bit sketchy and we do know that a deeper investigation has been started into the organization with an all-out effort being made to connect us personally to the assassinations."

"Don't worry, sir, we'll find out all that she knows and then will deal with her afterwards. You and your two brothers will be able to know how to cover yourselves against any investigations. I swear and promise this."

"We'll hold you to that." One of the two other men that had entered with the white haired Caius, commented.

And, with those words spoken the three men rose and left the room without another word being uttered.

Bella slowly turned her head so she could see if anyone had remained or if she was alone. It was even that small movement of turning her head that was pulling on the muscles in her back and causing extreme pain shooting across her body. It took everything within her to keep from crying out and from losing consciousness once again.

She needed to try to do something to get away from here and to alert her team about what was happening. It was important for her to make every effort to keep her mind clear so she could plan and to be able to act upon that plan.

The most important thing that she needed to do first is to check out her surroundings and to determine how to best get loose and out of here.

As she glanced around she was happy to see that she was indeed alone since everyone believed that she was unconscious and would be for a bit longer. That would work to her advantage.

Being strung up high enough that only her toes were barely touching the floor, Bella knew she was going to have to pull her body weight upwards in order to put some slack upon the restraints that were bound around her wrists.

As she was working to achieve her goal she did hear a door opening and someone walking towards her. She had almost freed one hand, but, needed to keep the appearance of being secured and unconscious. And, hoping that just a quick glance without full approaching her that whoever had entered would leave, but, that didn't happen.

The person came to stand directly in front of her and Bella was able to see through her squinted eyes and lowered head that it was a man and he was reaching up to check on her and her restraints. So, with being with no choice and no chance to plan Bella had to react in order to protect herself.

As the man stepped up closer she suddenly brought her knee up into his groin and made the right connection that caused him to grab himself as he bent over that she grabbed her restraints to give her some leverage to be able to pull herself up. As the restraints and her arms took her weight Bella brought her knees up and wrapped her legs around the man's neck and gave it a quick, sudden jerk to one side.

She had been able, thank goodness, to block out the shooting fire of pain that was threatening to toss her back into unconsciousness once again as she attacked one of her tormentors. But, she knew now was the point of no return, she had to finish freeing herself and make an effort in spite of the pain to get the hell out of here.

AN: Is Charlie going to be able to find and aid Bella? Is Bella going to be able to get away? Where has Alice and Rosalie decided to keep Edward, Emmett and Jasper for safe keeping?
