"So you'll be okay for Battle City?" Lucas asked Jacob over the phone. It's been a couple of days since the Jellal incident, and Jacob's wounds were healing better than Lucas would have imagined. Jacob was excused from his classes from the last couple of days. This did not excuse him from all the homework assignments Lucas brought to him yesterday. Lucas was baffled at the fact that after emitting so much energy and taking so much damage, Jacob was still standing tall and consciously.
"For sure," Jacob responded. "You better not be thinking that you will have an easy way to the finals just because I got a few bruises here and there. So, whatever happened with Reikou? Are you two going to do the rematch any time soon?"
"Not for a while," said Lucas, a bit of sadness could be heard in his voice as he continued. "I called her yesterday asking when would best work to continue where we left off. But she had a major chess tournament coming up. Therefore, she needs to focus on her gameplays."
"Don't worry, Red. I'm sure you guys will have another date soon enough." You could feel Jacob grinning like an idiot over the phone as he said that.
"It was not a date!" Lucas yelled. "I was just teaching her how to play the game."
"Yeah, sure you were," Jacob said mockingly. "First come cards, then comes marriage."
"I swear I will make sure you won't be able to participate in this tournament, Den!" Lucas was embarrassed at the thought of marriage. Jacob just laughed.
"So, Lucas. What do you got planned today?" Jacob asked.
"My little cousin is coming over," said Lucas. "He is spending the weekend with me. I figured it would be nice to bring him along to the tournament so that he could see all the amazing duels that will be going on. We might play a few games or watch a movie or something."
"Oh, is Jaden coming over? That's great!" said Jacob with enthusiasm in his voice, "Maybe I can come over and hang out with you guys."
"For sure," Lucas responded, "But don't push yourself too hard." Knock knock knock. "I gotta get going. I think he's here already."
"Alright," Jacob said, "I'll be there in a bit. I'll see ya later, Red."
"Please don't call me that." Lucas hung up, put his phone away, and headed for the door. He opened the door and saw a young boy with bushy, brown hair covered in a red cap. He was fairly short, with brown eyes. He wore a Beige jacket, unbuttoned, with a red shirt underneath. There was a man and a woman standing behind the young boy, smiling at Lucas. He invited the family in, offering them a seat on the couch so that they could talk over what Lucas had plan for the weekend. The two spirits were in Lucas's room, conversing, doing what spirits do, I suppose.
I do wish to find my king soon. Yubel said with a long look on her face.
I'm certain Lucas will be able to find your friend soon, Jackal responded We must be patient. In due time, you and I will be able to relieve ourselves of distress.
You mentioned a family. Yubel continued. How were they like?
Jackal hesitated a bit, trying not to remember the incident he had seen the night the pyramid was stolen. My wife was beautiful. She was my support when times were difficult after a day in the field. She provided care for the home, was an amazing cook, protected our child. She was so beautiful. We raised our child together. He was still a young one, but had the heart of a warrior. With the heart of mine and the will of his mother, our child would train in the yard with little sticks, pretending they were Katars. He wanted to be like me he would tell me. In which, I began to train him as my father did me. After every day, we would feast on the wonderful cooking my wife had made. We never argued. We never grieved. We were happy. In answering your question, Jackal paused a moment, trying to not shed a tear. They were perfect.
Yubel could feel a tear go down her face; She quickly wiped it away. You could hear the door from the entrance closing and little steps running towards the room.
How was your friend like? Jackal would ask.
My friend was-
The door had burst open and the two spirits saw a young boy looking around the room. Yubel's eyes widened when he saw the young boy who was excited to see all of the posters and dueling cassettes Lucas had in his room.
"Wow!" the young boy stated. "Do you think we could watch some of these tournaments, Lucas?"
"I don't see why not," Lucas smiled. He then was surprised when he saw Yubel floating around the young boy. Taking good, long looks on the boy's face, his cap, etc.
"What's wrong Lucas?" the young boy asked. He could not see Yubel doing a visual inspection of the boy.
"Oh nothing nothing. Say, grab the Duelist Kingdom tape. We'll start with that."
"Oooh. I haven't seen it yet." the boy grabbed the tape and headed to the living room. Lucas turned to look at Yubel.
"What were you doing, Yubel?" Lucas asked curiously.
I'm sorry, Yubel responded. It's just, that boy. He looked strikingly similar to my king.
Lucas looked at Jackal who was floating in the middle of the room. He looked back at Yubel. "That young boy was my cousin, Jaden. I am not mad, Yubel. But shouldn't your prince be able to see you as well as you see him?"
Yes. I am sorry. But I truly was shocked at the astounding resemblance.
At that moment, Lucas had an idea. He called Jacob and asked him to come over right away with his Duel Disk. Jaden came back into the room and asked what was taking Lucas so long. "I'm just making sure this weekend for you will be one to remember."

Lucas, Jaden, and Jacob were outside, with the young boy on one end of the yard, the High School student on the other, and a warry Jacob was found in the middle of the two. He stood outside of the duel arena, trying to not get in the way of the two duelist who are about to begin their duel.
"This is way to cool," little Jaden shouted. "Are you sure it's okay for me to use this, Jacob?"
"Don't worry about, Jaden!" Jacob responded. "Just be sure you take Lucas down!"
"You bet," Jaden shouted. Jacob gave a look to Lucas that said You are a monster if you don't let this kid beat you. Lucas return the look at Jacob with a face that said Don't make me the bad guy.
"Are you ready, Jaden?" Lucas shouted.
"Yeah!" Jaden responded with excitement that only a 10 year old could have. Lucas raised his Duel Disk towards Jaden, and within an instant, to components of the Duel Disk launched from the device to the left and right side of Lucas. As the devices soar through the air, they had opened up wings and glided to the ground. Lucas brought his Duel Disk to his chest, activating the Duel Disk instantaneously. Jaden did the same.
"DUEL!"
(Round 1: Lucas 4000 Jaden 4000)
"You don't mind if I go first, do you?" Jaden nodded no, barely able to contain his excitement to see real monsters. "I draw!" Lucas drew his card. "I summon Nimble Momonga in Attack Mode. I set one card Face-Down. I end my turn." An image of a flying squirrel appeared onto the field with the projection of a set card behind it. Jaden seemed as though he was about to hop with joy seeing the solid visions of these creatures appearing before them. "Jaden! It's one thing to see someone else summon a monster. It's another thing to summon one yourself!"
(Round 2: Lucas 4000 Jaden 4000)
"Oh, right! I draw!" Jaden was looking at his hand carefully and knew who he wanted to summon first. "I summon my Elemental Hero Bubbleman!" Jaden places his card onto his Duel Disk in a horizontal position. "I use Bubbleman's effect. If he is all alone on my field, I can draw two cards," Jaden drew the two. Oddly enough, I feel as though this effect does not sound right. "I place two cards Face-Down! I end my turn!"
(Round 3: Lucas 4000 Jaden 4000)
I can always use my Mystical Space Typhoon on one of those Face-Downs, Lucas thought to himself. But I shouldn't be too hard on the kid. "I draw! I summon Sonic Eagle in Attack Mode!" A bald eagle wearing goggles appeared on the right hand side of the flying squirrel. "With Eagle's effect, I add the Ritual Spell, Curse of the Masked Beast from my deck to my hand."
"Hey, Red! Don't be mean to the kid!" Jacob shouted from the side of the field. Lucas gritted his teeth and glared at Jacob, Jaden laughing at Jacob's silliness.
"Sonic Eagle! Attack Jaden's Elemental Hero Bubbleman!" The Eagle soar to the sky and dived into the direction of the crouched Bubbleman, preparing himself for impact.
"I activate my trap card! Castle Walls!" One of Jaden's Face-Down cards lifted itself up revealing itself a trap card with the image of a castle that seems to be taking hits as it stands firmly.
"What?!" Lucas shouted in surprise.
"My Bubbleman gains 500 defense points, so your Eagle can't destroy it."
"Not only that," Jacob continued. "But Red's also gonna lose Life Points between Bubbleman's boosted Defense Points and Sonic Eagle's Attack Points!" Bubbleman began to surround itself with energy. At this point, he was a s tough as a wall. Sonic Eagle continued his attack on Bubbleman, but when contact was made, Sonic Eagle was blown away and returned to Lucas's side of the field.
"I guess I'll end my tu-"
"Not yet, Lucas! I activate my other trap card. Dust Tornado! I destroy your Face-Down card." The second Set card Jaden had had lifted itself up showing the image of a tornado which then took form and headed towards Lucas's Face-Down, shattering the card upon contact. Lucas shielded himself with his arm from this destruction, and sent his Set card to the Graveyard.
(Round 4: Jaden 4000 Lucas 3700)
"My turn! I draw!" Jaden drew his card and played it onto the field in Attack Position. "I summon Dark Blade!" A knight in black armor appeared, wielding a blade in each hand. "Dark Blade, go and attack Sonic Eagle!" The black knight charged at the Eagle, and with two strikes, the Eagle shattered, reducing Lucas's life points in the process. "I end my turn!"
(Round 5: Jaden 4000 Lucas 3300)
"Hehe, You've gotten better!" Lucas shouted.
"Hehe. You think so?" Jaden smiled and put his hands behind his head. "I've been playing with the kids on my street! They come over every now and then and some of the older kids given me pointers too!"
"I could tell! But let's see if you can beat me, little cousin! I draw!" Lucas looked at the card he drew. It was Yubel. He wanted to know what Yubel can do, but…
I'm sorry Yubel. We are saving you for the tournament.
Don't worry about it. I understand. Yubel responded. Lucas placed Yubel in his hand, right next to
Jackal, and then takes the card right next to Jackal. "I summon Giant Rat in Defense Mode." A rat appeared and has taken a defensive position. "I will also switch Nimble Momonga to Defense Mode! I end my turn"
(Round 6 Jaden 4000 Lucas 3300)
"I draw! First I switch my Bubbleman into Attack Mode!" Bubbleman had stood up. " I will then activate Banner of Courage!" a card had risen from the ground, with the image of a flag in a battle field. "When I'm about to attack, all my monsters gain 200 points! Now, Dark Blade attacks Giant Rat!" Just like what had happened with Sonic Eagle, Dark Blade charged at Giant Rat and with two slashes, Giant Rat shattered into pieces.
"Tsk! I activate Giant Rat's special ability! When she's destroyed by battle, I can special summon one Earth monster with 1500 or less Attack Points from my deck. I Special Summon Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts! In Attack Mode." A lion-wolf-like creature appeared.
"It has more attack points than my Bubbleman. So I'm attacking your Nimble Momonga with Bubbleman. Go! Bubble Shot!" Bubbleman raised his right arm that had some sort of launcher attached. He held his right arm with his left, took aim at Nimble Momonga, and shot a stream of bubbles at the flying squirrel, shattering it in the process.
"You activated Nimble Momonga's effect! When he's destroyed, not only do I gain 1000 Life Points, but I can set two more Nimble Momongas from my deck!" Lucas placed two cards from his deck onto the field. Two projections of cards set horizontally appeared onto the field.
"Hehe, I end my turn!"
(Round 7: Jaden 4000 Lucas 4300)
"I draw!" You ready, partner?
I am always ready!
"Hey Jaden!" Jaden looked at Lucas curiously. "Do you know about Battle City rules right?"
"There are new rules?" Jaden asked curiously.
"Just a couple. One of them is if you want to summon a powerful monster, just like Ritual Summoning, you need to offer tributes in order to summon the strong monster. For example, if you want to summon a level 5 or 6 monster, you need to tribute 1 monster," Lucas raised a card. "Anything higher, like a 7 or 8, you need to tribute 2 monsters. I tribute both my Face-Down Nimble Momonga, and I Tribute Summon Mystical Knight of Jackal!" An Egyption Hound Warrior appeared, letting out a loud howl,
"It's Jackal!" Jaden was so happy to see Jackal in person. "He looks so cool!"
"I know, right! Now then, I'm sending both of my monsters to attack both of yours! Jackal, attack Dark Blade! Gazelle, attack Bubbleman!" Both Jackal and Gazelle rushed towards Jaden's monsters. First, Jackal jumped and striked Dark Blade. Dark Blade attempted to block the attack with his blades but was quickly overpowered and shattered. Then, Gazelle had followed with a leap and pounced Bubbleman, pinned him to the floor. And with a scratch from his paw, Bubbleman was gone as well.
"No my monsters!"
"Lucas! Don't be a bully!" shouted Jacob as he booed at Lucas. Jaden chuckled a bit at how silly Jacob looked trying to mock Lucas.
"Jacob! Jaden is a strong duelist! I cannot hold back for anything! It's your move Jaden!"
(Round 8: Jaden 2400 Lucas 4300)
"I have gotten better too! I draw!" Jaden looked at the card he drew and jumped with joy. "Sweetness! I activate Dark Hole!" Lucas's eyes had widened. "Now I destroy all of the cards on the field!" Both Jackal and Gazelle and been sucked into a wormhole that appeared in the sky.
"Where did you get a card like that?"Lucas asked.
"My friend, Osamu, gave it to me. That's not all. Next I activate Monster Reborn! I can Special Summon one monster from either one of our Graveyards! And I think I will choose Your Jackal!"
"You better not make a habit of taking cards from other people," Lucas said as Jaden stood there grinning. Lucas walked over to Jaden, placing his hand over his graveyard.
Didn't you use a card the other day to gain control of Reikou's monster? Jackal asked, sorta hinting Lucas to be a hypocrite.
Yeah well that was different. Lucas responded with his thoughts, not letting Jaden think that he was going crazy. Jaden is a little kid. He shouldn't be taking stuff from other people.
In that case, why don't you take away your copies of Monster Reborn and Change of Heart. You know, to be a better role model? Asked Jackal, mockingly, although it's hard to tell whether he was joking or not. The card of "Mystical Knight of Jackal" had ejected from the graveyard, Lucas grabbed the card and handed it over to Jaden, and started walking back to his side of the field. Jaden then places the card onto his field.
"Now I summon Mystical Knight of Jackal!" the image of Jackal had appeared from the ground, letting out a howl of pride, slashing the air with his katars, followed with a roundhouse kick, and then letting out one more howl to impress the young Jaden. Jaden's eyes brightened with joy seeing how the hologram projection of Jackal seemed so cool when it appeared onto his field. Lucas gave Jackal a look that said Was that really necessary?
Jackal returned the expression with a grin: Yes.
"So cool! Okay!" Jaden pointed towards Lucas, "Jackal attack Lucas directly! Jackal Slash!" Both Lucas and Jacob attempted to hold in their laughs, Jacob thinking about how adorable Jaden was for using a simple name for an attack, Lucas thinking about the look at Jackal's face when he thought: What's a 'Jackal Slash'? Either way, Jackal rushed towards Lucas, raised one of his katars, and, hesitantly, strikes Lucas with one slash. Before contact, Lucas held his arms up preparing for Jackal's attack. With one strike, Lucas let out a grunt as his Life Points dropped.
"I will also play one card Face-Down. I end my turn!" Jackal is the strongest monster Lucas has so I shouldn't worry so much. Jaden thought to himself. But even if Lucas has something stronger than Jackal, My Reinforcement will give Jackal an extra boost, making him 3200 ATK. I will be ready for whatever he throws at me.
I wouldn't be so sure.
Jaden quickly turned around. He thought he heard a voice from behind him. He was looking all over his background but no one was there. He was certain that it was not Jacob nor Lucas. They were both too far away.
"Hey Jaden!" Jacob shouted from the side lines. Jaden looked back at Jacob. "Are you alright?!"
"Oh yeah! I'm okay!" Jaden responded. "I think I'm just hearing things." He turned to look at Lucas with confidence, but then quickly changed in confusion. Lucas was staring at Jaden with his eyes widened, the red glimmering from the sunlight. "Lucas? Are YOU okay?!"
Lucas brought his attention back to Jaden. "Yeah! I'm okay! Sorry I was just thinking about something!" The spirit of Yubel began to float back to Lucas's side, with an expression of shock on both their faces. Although it was unnoticeable, Jackal shared a similar expression. They clearly needed to talk about what happened, but not until after the duel. Lucas brought his focus back onto the duel. He drew his card from his deck.
(Round 9: Jaden 2400 Lucas 1500)
"Draw!" Lucas looked at the card he just drew. Magic Cylinder! With this I could win the duel immediately. Lucas looked at the card, then to Jaden, then back to the card. He sighed a bit, and placed the card he drew into his hand, and picked a monster to set onto his field. "I set one monster Face-Down" the hologram of a set card projected onto the field horizontally. "I end my turn."
(Round 10: Jaden 2400 Lucas 1500)
"I draw! I activate my spell card, The Warrior Returning Alive!" Jaden's spell appeared onto the field. "Now I can add one Warrior-type monster from Graveyard to my hand. But I am going to summon it! Come on out: Dark Blade!" The black knight with his dual swords appeared onto the field. "I attack your Face-Down with Jackal! Jackal Kick!" Both Jacob and Lucas continued to hold their laughs in while Jackal, with a somewhat irritated face, went up to the Face-down, and attacked it with a downward kick. From the shattering of the horizontal card, a small creature that is only a head with two hands, holding a scythe, wearing some sort of Native American headpiece appeared.
"Hane-Hane's effect activates!" Shouted Lucas, Jaden was surprised. "I bounce your Dark Blade back to your hand!" The image of Hane-Hane, before disappearing, rushed the Dark Blade, and swung his Scythe at Dark Blade. Instead of shattering into little holographic pieces, Dark Blade began to glow, turned into a beam of light, and projected itself into its card on Jaden's Duel Disk. Jaden returned his Dark Blade to his hand.
"Aww. I was about to win!" Jaden exclaimed.
"I'm not going to make this easy for you, J!" Lucas shouted. "I want to try and make your first experience using a Duel Disk the most memorable!"
"This is so cool! Seeing all the monster coming out of the cards and seeing all these effects! I'm so happy! Thank you, cousin!" Jaden said with a grin on his face. Lucas smiled at this. Jacob gasped, placed his hand over his mouth, and muttered to himself: "Guaranteed this little boy will be a lady's man… I shall show him the ways of being a Lady's man!" Lucas glared at Jacob. That last part Jacob shouted was heard throughout the field. Jaden looked at Jacob with a tilted head confused, but started laughing. The two Highschool students couldn't help but laugh as well.
(Round 11: Jaden 2400 Lucas 1500)
"My turn!" Lucas shouted, bringing the attention of everybody back to the duel. "I draw!" He places the card he drew into his hand and picked two other cards. "I summon The Berserk Gorilla!" a massive, red Gorilla with fury on his face appeared onto the field. Lucas then placed the second card into his Spell and Trap Card zone. "I then activate Wild Nature's Release! Now I can target one Beast-Type monster I control, and that monster gains Attack points equal to its Defense points. Making him 3000 Attack Points. Let yourself go wild, Berserk Gorilla!" a surge of energy was emitting from the Gorilla that was on the field. Suddenly, you could see the muscles of the gorilla grow, his face getting angrier and angrier. "Now he's stronger than Jackal!"
"Woah!" Jaden said in awe. Jacob looking intensely at Lucas. He knows Jaden has a trap set, Jacob thought to himself. Is he really going for the attack.
"Now Berserk Gorilla!" Lucas shouted, "Attack Jackal! Wild Nature Released!"
"I activate my Face-Down, Reinforcement!" Jaden's Face-Down was flipped Face-Up, revealing a trap card, with the image of an army raging to go into battle.
"Oh no!" exclaimed Lucas. Jacob snickered a bit.
"Now Jackal will gain 500 Attack Points. Making his 3200 Attack Points stronger than Your Gorilla's 3000 Attack Points. Ready to counter, Jackal?" The image of Jackal nodded, as the Berserk Gorilla charged in to Jackal, attempting to throw a punch filled with so much strength and anger. Jackal dodged the attack and striked the Gorilla from behind with his katars. Berserk Gorilla shattered.
"Shoot. I end my turn" Lucas shouted. Jaden was glowing with a bright smile. Jacob also couldn't help but grin.
(Round 12: Jaden 2400 Lucas 1300)
"I draw!" Jaden placed his new card in his hand, and immediately pointed at Lucas. "Jackal attack Lucas directly! Jackal Slash!" Jackal let out a growl, rushed Lucas and struck him with his katars. Lucas let out an exaggerated yell, to entertain Jaden, and fell to the ground, dropping the cards in his hand. They laid scattered on the floor. His Life Points hit zero.
"I-I won?" Jaden looked in surprise.
"Wow I lost," said Lucas. "You sure have gotten better kid." Lucas raised his hand and posed it as a sideways gun and aimed it at Jaden. "That's game" Jaden face brightened and jumped up in the air in joy. This was the first duel Jaden has won ever since he started playing Duel Monsters. He ran up to Lucas and did the same hand motion as Lucas.
"Gotcha!"

Jaden was sleeping in Lucas's room. The time was 21:30. They had just gotten back from an evening of movies, games, and dinner. The trio met up with Lance who then began mocking Lucas for losing to a six year old. Both Jacob and even Jaden mocked Lucas, saying that maybe Jaden should enter the tournament instead. It was an eventful evening for the boys.
While Jaden slept comfortably, Lucas was standing outside with Jacob.
"I tell you though," said Lucas, "He sure has gotten better."
"He sure has," stated Jacob. "That and you did let him win though." Lucas looked at Jacob shocked, trying to play dumb, but was soon interrupted by Jacob. "I saw the Magic Cylinder that you had dropped from your hand when you portrayed a wonderful performance of losing." Jacob winked.
"Guilty," responded Lucas. "Jaden has not won many duels from what he has told me. In all honesty, I don't he's won any duels. I didn't his first duel using a Duel Disk be losing another match."
"You're a good cousin, Red." stated Jacob.
"Don't call me that."
"Are you ready for tomorrow? This is gonna be a big deal. It may go down in Dueling history," said Jacob looking at the stars.
"You bet I am," said Lucas who was only looking at the ground. Jacob grabbed his bag with his Duel Disk, and started off home. "Starting tomorrow, let's both try to make it to the finals." With a big ole grin on his face, Jacob turned around and walked away. "See ya later Red!"
"Later Den!"
Lucas continued onto the living room and prepared the couch for him to sleep in. He could always sleep in Drew's room, but Lucas did not feel comfortable using some of the things his older brother owned. He attempts to make due with what he's got, considering Drew has done so much for Lucas already. Plus, Lucas wanted to rewatch the finals of Duelist Kingdom one more time. Just not as excited as he usually is when watching this tape.
In the other room, Yubel is floating over a sleeping Jaden, looking intently.
He was able to hear you. Said Jackal.
I know. But this young boy. I feel like I have met him before, said Yubel.
Do you think that perhaps this boy could be your king? Asked Jackal.
I'm not sure. He does have a similar hairstyle like my king. Not to mention that he also has the same face. But this boy may not be my king. His name is Jaden. And my king. Well, I don't even remember what his name was.
Perhaps, stated Jackal, This boy could be a key to finding your king.
And if that is the case,said Yubel. Then I am happy that whoever had my card before had left it with you two. I do not believe I could be any more closer to finding my king. My friend.
