YOU'RE WHAT!

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.

Knowing that he's going to have to report this to the bosses, he also knows that they are going to ask him a lot of questions about what went wrong and what happened to the girl.

CHAPTER 36: THE WHEELS OF JUSTICE BEGIN TO TURN

Before leaving Bella's home, Sam made a few phone calls to alert all other departments that needed to be present of the current situation in an abbreviated version of things. He mentioned that a secure conference room needed to be made ready at the FBI office as soon as possible. Sam was questioned about why there instead of the Attorney General's office and Sam refused to answer the question on the phone.

While Sam was busy, Felix noticed that Alice and Rosalie were busy speaking quietly with Dr. and Mrs. Cullen. He was sincerely hoping that the Cullen's could be persuaded to stay away from the planning that needed to take place. Civilians weren't needed to be in attendance at such meetings; they needed to stay out of the way since they had a habit of making things even more difficult and time-consuming to get the plans made and fine-tuned.

What Alice and Rosalie were discussing with the Cullen's was a subject that Alice had talked over with Rosalie before approaching Dr. Cullen. And, from how short the conversation was, it appeared that an agreement had been reached fairly quickly. So, with the nodding of both of Edward's parents' heads, they quickly said their goodbyes and left for whatever they had agreed to do.

"Whatever you said to them is very welcomed, so we don't have to deal with having to be careful of what is going to be discussed in their presence." Felix commented with a sigh of relief.

"Alice, are you sure it's safe for my parents to go by themselves to wherever you just sent them?" Edward asked with a lot of concern sounding in his voice. He might still be a bit upset with Carlisle and Esme, but they were still his loving parents and he didn't want them to be in any danger by being without any protection.

"Edward, don't worry about them; their guard is still in place." Rosalie took the time to explain to him. Then she looked at all three guys, Edward, Emmett and Jasper, as she told them to get comfortable since the meeting wouldn't be taking place until the next day or two.

"Why so long? It seemed by the way Sam was talking that it was going to be immediate, today and within minutes." Jasper asked.

"All Sam can do, at this point, is to notify the different departments that will be involved about the need to meet, but nothing else will be discussed until we all are in a secure room to begin getting all of the information and to start putting the plans together.

"Then once that is done it will take time to get the conference room ready and for everyone involved to clear their schedules to be able to attend. This type of operation is going to take planning for everyone to be on the same page." Alice explained to Jasper and the other two. Then she and Rosalie waited to see if anyone of the three might have any further questions that would need to be answered.

When it appeared that none them had anything else to ask at the moment, the two women turned their attention back to Sam. He had finished his calls and was quietly talking to Felix when Sam happened to glance over at the two women to see them watching him. It was with a raised eyebrow that he waited to see if either of them had any questions or comments to make; apparently, they didn't. So, Sam began speaking.

"It's going to take until tomorrow for everything to be ready for us. In the meantime, I would suggest that we continue with our stay here until then.

"Also, Felix tells me that you two were talking with the older Cullen's and then they left while I was on the phone. Would you mind filling me in on what you have going on with Dr. and Mrs. Cullen?"

After Sam had made his statement about nothing more could be done until tomorrow, both Alice and Rose shot a quick glance over to Edward, Jasper and Emmett with a small smirk appearing on their faces as if to say, 'see; told you what would be happening.' And with the look from the two women, all three men only shook their head. Then Rosalie and Alice turned back to face Sam and to answer his question about the older Cullen's.

"We asked them to take Charlie's place at the hospital. Since Edward's dad is a doctor, he would be able to be more useful to keep a close watch on Bella's recovery progress.

"We felt by asking him and Esme to help in that area that it would be of more benefit for everyone by keeping them in a useful position on the sidelines." Rosalie told everyone in the room.

"Good idea." All of the men agreed at the same time. That idea solved many problems on all levels. It put the older Cullen's out of harm's way, kept them occupied with something that would be helpful by relieving Charlie to be included in the upcoming operation, both the planning and the executing, and lastly, kept them out of everyone's hair with the Cullen's wanting to add in their two cents worth.

Janie stayed in her hiding place where she was able to hurdle down beneath the blankets, she had stashed there along with a warm sleeping bag. However, she did keep vigil to make sure that no one was going to take her by surprise. She was afraid that if she went to sleep, even for a second, that she would be taken by surprise by the one man that still remained who held her family prisoners.

Her position was far enough away from her home that she wasn't able to hear any of the commotion that was going on there. The further she had gone into the forest the less she had been able to hear any approach of any of the sirens of both the police and the ambulance. She wasn't even sure if the authorities had been notified of what had happened at her home; all of the bodies that seemed to be everywhere she had looked as she had been scrambling to get away like her father had told her to do while drawing his dying breath.

She had tried to call her brother, but so far, he hadn't answered the phone. She was hoping that nothing had happened to him. What the Volturi had him doing, she knew, could get him killed. But she was still going to believe that he was staying as safe as he could. The fact that she was still alive was proof that he was doing as he had been told thus far. Somehow, those thoughts were of some comfort to her. The fact that he hadn't answered her phone call as yet had her a little concerned, but she was determined to do as her father had instructed her to do; to tell her brother to go to the police for the sake of them both.

All he could do is hang around on the fringe of the crowd and listen to all that was being said. However, no one seemed to have any of the answers of what he needed to know to be able to report back to the bosses. He knew that he needed to make a decision before too much longer and risk a connection being made between him and the bodies that were being carried out to the ambulances.

Slowly he begins to work his way towards the front of the crowd, stopping every few steps along the way so he could listen to the gossip that was running throughout the crowd. And at each stop he would hold his breath, hoping that no one in the crowd would recognize him or associate him with the dead individuals that were coming out of the house.

It was as he was only two or three steps from being in the front of the crowd that he was brought to an abrupt halt as he heard, "Where is the daughter?" I asked the officer in charge how many had been shot and when he told me I asked if their daughter was amongst the dead and he said no; only one female and all the rest were male, but no child had been present."

With hearing that bit of information, the man began moving to the back of the crowd once more. Once at the back of the crowd where he was sure that his movements wouldn't be observed he turned to begin making his way back to his car. He knew that he needed to report as quickly as possible to the boss. However, just as he was about to leave the neighbor next door happened to notice the movement and yelled at him to ask if he had spoken with the police to identify his friends.

Then before he could do anything to answer or flee, the nosy bitch hollered for the officer in charge and pointed to the man standing at the back of the crowd from her as one of the people that had been visiting and said that he knew everyone that had been inside. "Thanks, lady. Thanks for everything." He mumbled under his breath before turning to await the arrival of the approaching officer.

Just as the officer arrived and was about to introduce himself, the neighbor's little girl tripped as she was trying to approach her mother and bumped into the man which caused him to lose his balance just enough that the gun he had hidden underneath his jacket, but wasn't secured, fell out of its shoulder holster.

It didn't take long for the officer to order the arrest of the man on the charges of carrying a concealed weapon and on the possibility of being a murderer. So, he was handcuffed and dragged over to a police car and loaded up.

Charlie was lost in his verbal stroll down memory lane with Bella when the door opened. Glancing over at the entrance Charlie was surprised to see Dr. and Mrs. Cullen walking into the room. Turning more to the couple as they advanced near to his seated position, Charlie watched them very cautiously as he wondered why they were there and just exactly what they wanted.

It didn't take long before Carlisle informed Charlie of the reason for their visit. "Alice and Rosalie asked that we come so you can be relieved to join everyone else in the planning and executing stage of arresting the people responsible for the threat against Edward and his friends as well as what they had done to your daughter.

"They felt that since I'm a doctor that I could be of more use here supervising the care and treatment of your Bella instead of getting on everyone else's last nerve while they were getting everything in place for the takedown that is about to take place on all fronts at the same time.

"So, if you're in agreement with what has been suggested we would like to help out in this capacity."

Charlie looked at the couple for a long pause before turning to take a long at Bella. Closing his eyes and giving a lot of thought to the whole situation and adding in the fact that both Alice and Rosalie trusted Edward's parents, he decided that he would take them up on the offered opportunity. "Thanks. I most definitely would like to be involved in the takedown of the scum that has put our children in this situation."

With that being said, Charlie turned back to Bella and leaned over her to kiss her on the forehead as he muttered to her, "You are in good hands for now and I'll be back soon. This is something that I've got to do, not just for you, but for everyone concerned. Love you, kid." And, with that said Charlie turned and shook hands with both Carlisle and Esme then left.

Carlisle looked at Bella's chart that was hanging at the end of her bed and nodded as he was saying to Esme," It's pretty much as I thought and what her doctor has said.

"I know what Alice and Rosalie want me to do and the why, but do you really think that it's a good idea?" Carlisle asked of his wife.

"I think it is something everyone really wants done, even if they aren't comfortable to say so." Esme replied.

He knew that he had done the right thing in telling the Marshalls about all he knew concerning the Volturi crime family. And, he prayed that they would be able to get to his sister and parents quick enough to save everyone. The poor man was smart enough to realize that he had no way to go now but with the flow of events that had been set in motion by his confession.

Now, with being locked, even though it was under a different name, he wasn't sure that he was all that safe where he was at. The Volturi had a long reach to seek revenge against the ones that turn on them.

AN: When will Janie decide that it will be safe enough to leave her hiding spot to go and find her brother? What is it that Alice and Rosalie want Carlisle and Esme to do? Is the brother safe in protective custody under an assumed name locked up in jail?

Hope you will enjoy this story and will let me know your thoughts, ideas and comments as we move forwards.
