YOU'RE WHAT!

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

After entering the woods and having walked some directions both Bella and Esme spotted what appeared to be a treehouse of sorts and Bella knew in her heart that the young girl was there.

CHAPTER 40: WHAT THE HELL?!

Bella and Esme were standing a small distance from the treehouse they had spotted, however, before taking another step forward Bella had a sudden chill that ran through her body. The type of feeling you get when you feel that you're being watched. And reacting to that feeling Bella took the time to look around before suddenly lifting her eyes to look toward the treehouse.

"Do you feel it also? The kind of feeling you get when you think you're being watched?" Esme quietly asked of Bella. But, before Bella could answer, Esme spoke once more by asking, "Did you see that?"

Bella looked at Esme and saw that she was pointing toward the window that was facing them in the treehouse. And, with Esme's last question, she knew that Esme had seen the slight movement at the window in the treehouse like she had. The movement had been so slight that if either woman hadn't been acutely aware of their immediate surroundings it might have been missed.

"I saw it and I do believe that we have found our young lady. The amount of building material it would have taken to build that treehouse would account for all of the receipts I found in the house.

"How about we let the young lady know who we are and why we're here?" Bella voiced her observations and then asked as she looked over at Esme.

Bella seemed to hesitate for a fraction of a second as she tilted her head to one side as she looked at Esme while seeming to be deep in thought. Then just as quickly as Bella had assumed her thoughtful silence she returned to normal and asked Esme, "What do you think of you being the one to climb up to the treehouse to talk with the young lady? Do you think you can do that, Esme, and talk her down here to me?"

Esme was shocked as well as deeply surprised that Bella would believe that she would be able to help in reassuring the teen down out of her lair. And this thought prompted Esme to ask, "What makes you think that I'm the right person to do that? Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered that you are asking my help in this situation. I'll be happy to approach her and do what I can, but I don't understand why you have enough confidence in me being the right person to do this."

Bella looked at Esme, gave a quick nod of her head and then told her, "The reason I feel that you are the right person to do this is because you're a mother that a raised a wonderfully sensitive boy to the man he is today and that gives you greater insight of the trauma that that child has been through and possibly feeling so she needs a more motherly approach from someone that can show the caring compassion and understanding of her condition at this moment more than she needs the law enforcement approach."

That explanation showed Esme something she didn't know about the woman that was emotionally involved with her son. Agent Isabella Swan had just shown Esme why Bella, Rosalie and Alice were experts at doing their jobs to the high level that they do. So, with a quick indrawn breath and then the releasing of it, Esme said, "Okay, let's get this show on the road." And, with that said Esme moved toward the base of the tree where the treehouse had been built.

Esme paused at the base to give some thought of how she should begin her climb and approach to the young woman that was hiding within the elevated dwelling. After some thought Esme decided to announce herself as she began climbing up to the opening in the structure.

Bella had remained in her current position as she watched and heard Esme announce her approach to the young lady hiding in the treehouse. The thought did cross Bella's mind that instead of being a treehouse, maybe it was designed to be a hunting blind. But, somehow, she doubted that it had been built for a hunter but was built as a get away for someone needing a quiet place to go. Some place to get away from grownups and the increasing demands that were being made with the growing up process that she was experiencing.

Bella could understand that need since she experienced the same need every so often herself, even now. Everyone had a need to have a quiet place to be able to process certain things that life has and will continue to throw at you. And, this young one hasn't had things thrown at her; it all had been dumped onto her without any pause.

Janie was cautiously curious as to why two women were standing in the woods on the pathway talking. From time to time they seemed to be looking up at her hiding place, but made no move, at first, to come anywhere near her position. However, she saw that change as one of the two women made a move towards her location.

She was hoping that no one knew that she was in the treehouse hiding, however, that bubble of hope was broken as soon as she heard one of the women talking as she was climbing up to Janie's hiding place.

At first, Janie wasn't paying any attention to what the woman was saying as she was quickly looking for a sufficient place to hide. However, nothing large enough for her to be able to fit into was available. Janie had outgrown the different hiding places she used to use when she was younger, and she wasn't ready for her dad or brother to take her back to the house in the past.

But, as the woman got closer, Janie did listen to what the woman was saying, and those words were causing her to hesitate in any actions she might decide to make to defend herself.

Esme was speaking in a soothing voice had and it carried a calming effort as she was saying, "My name is Esme Cullen and my companion waiting outside is named Bella Swan. We've been sent by your brother to get you to safety." And, even though, Esme heard no comment from inside the structure, she had a feeling that the young woman inside was listening to what Esme was telling her. It was because of that reason that Esme continued saying the same things over and over just to make sure that the girl listening understood why Esme and Bella were there.

And, it was really the mention of her brother that caused Janie to pause and stay where she was waiting to see what kind of threat, if one, that this Esme Cullen would be.

Janie had a gun that was close to her position that was easy enough to get to if she needed it for self-defense within the next few moments. So, as the woman sounded as if she was getting closer to the door, Janie moved a little at a time closer to where she had the weapon hidden. But still the knock that sounded just outside of the treehouse door, startled her anyway.

Watching the doorknob turn and the door slowly open made Janie apprehensive, but she still maintained her position close to the gun's hiding place. But the surprise came when the woman stepped inside and Janie was able to see the lady up close for the first time. She realized that Esme was old enough to be her mother and not a killer. At least not what she would imagine a killer to look like.

Esme stepped completely into the room, facing the young woman with her hands raised in a surrendering fashion. She wanted to reassure the teenager that she was no threat to her, nor was Bella. So, as Esme came to a stop just a few steps away from the girl, she once more repeated everything she had spoken as she had been climbing up to the treehouse level.

"Did my brother really send you? If he did, then tell me his name. I want to know where he is and why I haven't been able to talk with him." Janie demanded to know.

"I truly can't tell you what your brother's name is since I haven't spoken to him directly. However, if you'll allow my companion that is still waiting below to come up or we go down to her she would be able to answer your questions a lot better than I'm able to do so." Esme told the teenager.

"Why would she be able to give me the answers and you can't? Also, how were you able to find me and no one else was able to?"

"Because she's an FBI agent and she knows how to investigate things."

"An FBI agent?"

"Yes. If you would only talk with her, I think a lot of your questions would be answered."

"Before I even consider your request, tell me why you came up here and not the agent."

"Simply because she felt that you might feel more comfortable with my approach to make contact with you than you might feel with her approach."

Janie said nothing in response to Esme's explanation. She quietly walked over to the window and took a look down at the woman that this Esme Cullen person had identified as an FBI agent named something Swan. She was trying to find the right answer as to what she should do; trust these people and what they were telling her or to begin finding a way to get away from them.

Esme wasn't fooled, she knew that the young lady was confused as to what was the right thing for her to do. But there was no way that Esme could make the decision for the girl to trust them. That had to come from the girl herself. That was a choice that she had to make. However, Esme decided that, even in everyone's mind, they couldn't keep calling her young lady, teenager, young woman or girl, they needed to know to who they were talking to. So, with that in mind Esme asked, "Would you mind telling me your name? We would like to address you properly, if that's okay with you?"

"My name is Janie. I would have thought that you would know that since you claim that my brother sent you."

"Janie, if you will remember, I told you that I hadn't spoken with your brother. I said that he had asked for you to be taken to safety. However, the people that spoke with your brother told us about the circumstances that your brother relayed that surrounded you and your family. Anything else will have to be told to you by the agent waiting below."

Sam and Felix left for the meeting leaving behind three very angry men. All of the scheming that the three might have thought of doing in order to be able to get out of the house was immediately foiled by Rosalie and Alice telling them of all of the security measures that did exist in Bella's home. The frustration that Edward, Emmett and Jasper all felt was beyond explanation. They couldn't formulate the right words to express the total upset and of being denied any sort of participation they were feeling.

Then to make matters worse in the opinion of all three men was the fact that Rosalie and Alice kept a very close eye on them. This made Edward, Emmett and Jasper feel like they were no longer trustworthy. And, if truth be told, it was the three men that were projecting that image more than the two agents feeling it.

The different men that were available for the planning of the take down of the Volturi crime family were the ones on the original meeting when Edward, Emmett and Jasper had been placed under protective custody, plus a few others. Jacob Black, the U. S. AG, Sam and Felix, the two U. S. Marshalls, Det. Norris, the police officer that was handling Bella's kidnapping case, and the head of the team that would be handling the actual task forces for coordinating the different takedowns all at the same time.

Exact planning and timing for everything was extremely important. Everyone would have to be on the same page, and they all needed to make sure that no one got away.

Janie decided that she needed to trust Esme and the FBI agent for the time being. It seemed like it was the only way that she was going to get all of the answers that she wanted. So, Janie turned from looking out the window and told Esme that she was ready to go down and meet the agent that was waiting for them.

With that said both Esme and Janie made the descent back to the ground and moved towards Bella as Bella made to move toward them. As the group came together male voices were heard just before a projectile whizzed pass Bella's head.

She jumped on both Esme and Janie as the owners of the voices came into sight.

"Aro, we haven't heard from our men located at the Warren's. You said that Michael was to check on the bitch at the hospital and then to lay low unless something needed to be reported back to us. But, our guards at the Warren place should have reported an all clear as scheduled."

"What are you saying? That something has gone wrong?"

"I'm not sure, but I don't like things not going as planned."

"Then, brother, why don't you take Marcus and go check things out for yourself." Aro suggested. And that is exactly what Caius did.

Caius, Marcus and their bodyguards arrived at the Warren home only to find the aftermath that was left behind due to the shoot out from the night before.

A neighbor happened to be out in their front yard watching the men get out of the car. Of course, being curious as to why they were there parked behind the empty car sitting in front of the house, the neighbor walked over to ask who the men were.

"We're family members from out of town and had a bit of time to be able to visit with the Warren family. But it appears that something terrible happened here." Caius remarked.

"Then I guess you don't know. Everyone was killed last night, except for young Janie and Michael.

"From what I was told, Michael works out of town so I'm not sure that he knows about what happened to his family. However, young Janie is missing. She wasn't found anywhere in the house with the rest of the family and their visitors."

"Do you have any idea where Janie might be?" Caius asked as he appeared to be concerned about what he was being told.

"I know that Henry had built a place back in the woods for Janie when she wanted to do any of her artwork." Caius thanked the lady for the information and turned to go to the back of the house with his companions.

It didn't take long to find the pathway into the woods. The group of men discussed how best to approach finding the place that Janie might be hiding out in. And, as Caius and Marcus began walking deeper into the woods with the guard behind them, they saw two women and Janie.

Before Marcus or the guards could react, Caius had already pulled his gun and fired a shot at the women. He wanted to scare them enough to take charge of them.

Bella had reacted as she had jumped to knock Esme and Janie down to the ground and at the same time had pulled her gun and returned fire. She emptied her gun and took down the entire group of men. She quickly got up as she told Esme and Janie to get up to get to their car. The adrenaline running through her system kept her from feeling any pain from her prior injuries.

She moved in front of Esme and Janie to make sure their passage would be unhindered as they begin moving pass the men on the ground. When she got to the group of men, she found four dead and one severely wounded.

Looking closer she was able to identify that among the dead was Caius Volturi and the one still alive, although barely, was Marcus Volturi.

She turned to Esme and told her to go to the car and to quickly phone Rosalie and Alice about the situation so help could be sent immediately.

AN: How do you think everyone else is going to react to finding Bella awake and with Janie Warren? And, what will the reaction be once they found out the situation that has just occurred?

We are nearing the end of this story with only two chapters, including epi remaining.
