Vile: Just trying to keep safe from the rabid fans who probably want my head on a pike for not updating quicker. Those commissions can take time out of you. I'm just lucky I've got the rest of the Numbershot canon (well, most of it) planned out and I'm not flying blind here.

Chapter 16: What You Can Do, We Do Better Together
"Heads up!" Haruto was heard saying before a red Frisbee was tossed across the clear afternoon sky. A small dog chased after the whirling disc, barking all the while.
The Frisbee sailed toward Dog-chan and three of their other friends (a red-haired boy, a dark-haired boy, and an orange-haired girl). "I got it!" Dog-chan jumped, running into the frisbee's path and jumping, snagging it out of the air and sticking her landing. "Yatta!"
"Toss it to me!" The dark-haired boy called. Dog-chan threw it right to the dark-haired boy with Wanna chasing after it, the boy catching it. He looked at Wanna, who was staring at him while panting. "Heheheh! You want it, Wanna?" Wanna barked twice at him.
"Over here, Takeru-kun!" The girl called.
Takeru nodded. "Then go get Kohana-chan!" He threw the frisbee at Kohana, Wanna running after it. The dog jumped up to snag it with his teeth, but he missed, Kohana catching the toy. "Oh, Wanna…" She said in a teasing voice, holding the disc out in front of Wanna, who barked at her, even standing on his hind legs a few times. Dog-chan laughed at how silly her dog was. Then, Kohana threw the Frisbee toward the redhead. "Go get it, boy!"
The frisbee got near Touya, but before he was able to grab it, Wanna gave another big jump. "Watch out, Touya-kun!" Dog-chan cried.
However, Touya didn't notice in time to keep Wanna from tackling him. "Whaaa!" He cried as the impact sent them both to the ground. Both were clearly fine, as Wanna started sniffing around, quickly losing interest in the frisbee and licking Touya's face. "Hey, hahahaha…" Touya laughed from the dog's licking. "That tickles... Stop..."
The others let out a laugh. "Guess Wanna must like peanut butter and jelly." Kohana mentioned as they walked over to Touya and Wanna.
Dog-chan picked her dog up and giggled. "You're such a scavenger, Wanna." She said, Wanna giving a small yip as he tried to lick his owner's face.
Haruto laughed at Wanna again, but then he heard something. It sounded like arguing voices... and they were getting louder. "You guys hear that?" The others started listening, eventually turning to see a boy and a girl their age walking toward them. The boy had dark eyes and dark blue hair that almost had a flame shape, with a noticeable green fringe. The girl, meanwhile, had yellow eyes and blue hair that fanned to the sides in the back, with a noticeable piece of lighter blue hair coming down over her brow. One look at these kids told the group that they were the arguers, as neither looked happy.
"You're just mad because that girl had a way better catch than any of the boys there!" The girl shouted.
"Oh, please, that catch was a fluke." The boy snarked back.
Touya finally got back to his feet. "What are they talking about?"
"Got me." Haruto replied. "But I don't like the sound of it." Touya, Takeru, Dog-chan, and Kohana all nodded in agreement.
"Girls like you wouldn't know a good throw from just flailing your arm." The boy told the girl, having a smarmy smirk on his face.
The girl shot him a look. "Oh yeah? Well, boys like you can barely understand the rules of a simple game like that.
Takeru sighed. "Oh, great. A boys vs. girls argument."
"I hate those." Kohana said. "It made last week's episode of Prism Patrol a bad one."
"Is that right? I bet I could throw that thing so fast that you'd never catch it!"
"Typical. It's all a show of strength to you. Just goes to show how much skill you lack in playing the game."
The boy frowned, stopping to turn and face her, the girl mimicking him. They were right near the group at this point, so they had managed to hear everything they had said. "Those sound like fighting words."
"Ha, there you go again." The girl said with a haughty smile. "Just like a boy to be so quick to throw a punch and too stupid to understand context."
Unbeknownst to them, Takeru had approached them. Unwilling to keep hearing this, he pushed the two of them apart. "Okay, break it up, you guys!"
The blue-haired girl flipped out, backing up further. "Ew! I was touched by a boy!"
"What are you doing taking her side?" The boy asked, looking miffed.
"Because you guys sound stupid!" Takeru replied.
"Yeah, who cares who's better?" Kohana added, moving next to Takeru.
"I DO!" The boy and girl both yelled.
"Boys think they run pretty much everything." The girl said while crossing her arms.
"At least we can back up our talk, unlike you." The boy replied, pointing at her on his last word.
The girl glared at him. "Oh, really?!"
Haruto then stepped up, holding up his hands. "Hey, hey, come on. Knock it off, guys." He said. "Can't we all just have a little fun without something like this?"
The boy smirked. "Showing a "girl power" believer like Umimi here what it means to be tough IS fun to me."
'What a jerk.' Takeru thought.
"Oh, wise up, Tobio. Try thinking with your head and not those poor excuses for biceps you've got." Umimi shot back.
'Wow, talk about immature.' Kohana thought.
"Come on, quit fighting so we can actually do something." Dog-chan spoke up.
"Yeah, this fight is stupid." Haruto added.
"IS NOT!" Tobio and Umimi yelled at the same time.
"For not liking each other, you two sure do think alike." Takeru mentioned, causing the two kids to say "Nani?" in response (once again at the same time).
Touya smirked. "You know what my Onii-chan says: 'The more two people hate each other...'" He leaned closer to Tobio and Umimi. "'…the more they wanna kiss each other.'"
The two kids quickly went on the defensive. "You want to lose some teeth for that crack?" Tobio growled, rolling up a sleeve.
"There is no way I would go for a boy like him!" Umimi shouted.
Kohana was laughing. "Oh, don't kid yourselves! When's the wedding?" The five friends all had an innocent laugh. Tobio and Umimi, on the other hand, were mad enough that steam could have blown out of their ears
"You think I'd ever like her? I don't need her around to be awesome!" Tobio said, crossing his arms.
"Please, everyone knows that behind a good man is a better woman controlling him." Umimi said, placing a hand on her hip.
"I thought you didn't like being around boys." Kohaku said with a smirk.
Umimi immediately realized the context of her words, causing her eyes to go dinner-plate-wide with a sweatdrop as big as her head, her face beet red. "I DIDN'T MEAN ME!" She cried. "I just meant for every decent boy, there's a girl that's ten times better."
Haruto steps forward. "Okay, you two think you can be awesome with those attitudes? I say, let's see you prove it."
This immediately got Tobio and Umimi's attention. "Oh, yeah?" "How?"
"Simple, a Duel." Haruto said. "2 on 2 Tag Duel, with the option to hurt or help your partner."
Tobio and Umimi looked at each other for a moment. "And...?" Tobio wondered.
Haruto smirked and pointed at them. "You two Duel on the same team."
"EHHHHH?!" Tobio and Umimi both cried. "You expect me to team up with him/her?!"
Haruto simply nodded. "Let's see you guys put your money where your mouth is." He then looked over at his pink-haired friend. "Dog-chan?"
"Hmm?" Dog-chan asked, a little surprised.
"You wanna show these guys how it's done?"
Dog-chan looked a little nervous. "Oh. Sure. Uh…" She looked around before looking at their other friends. "Watch Wanna for me?" The three of them nodded, and Kohana took Wanna so Dog-chan could Duel. 'I can't believe it. I'm in my first Tag Duel.' She thought. 'Okay, just breathe. Be cool. It's gonna work out.'
Tobio and Umimi shot ugly looks at each other. "I can take them both out without you." Tobio jeered, sticking his tongue out at her.
"That goes double for me and in half the time." Umimi shot back, sticking her own tongue out.
Haruto sighed. "I guess you missed the part where I said you could, 'hurt or help your partner.'" He said, using finger quotes on the last part.
Tobio and Umimi looked at each other briefly before pointing at each other. "Can I attack him/her?"
Takeru facepalmed. "Isn't that what he just said?"
"Twice." Touya said, holding up two fingers.
This made Tobio and Umimi smirk. "You're on!"
Tobio shot Umimi another look. "I'll take them AND you down."
"Not before I finish you first." Umimi replied.
Dog-chan walked over to Haruto. "You sure this is a good idea?" She whispered to him.
"Not really. I'm just kinda hoping it'll shut them up." Haruto whispered back.
"Let's do this!" Tobio and Umimi shouted, placing their D-Pads on their arms (Tobio's being green, Umimi's being pink), which activated and unfolded their spaces.
Haruto and Dog-chan nodded at each other. "Duel Disk, set!" They cried, throwing their D-Pads into the air before catching them on their arms, the spaces unfolding.
"D-Gazer, set!" All four of them cried as all but Haruto placed their D-Gazers on their eyes (Tobio and Umimi's being basic models), Haruto activating his tattoo D-Gazer.
"AR VISION, LINK ESTABLISHED." The AR System said as the Augmented Reality formed all around, the Gazers flashing.
"DUEL!"

"Ladies first! Draw!" Umimi cried, drawing her card before anyone could object. "To Special Summon this card, I have to discard two cards from my hand!" Two of her cards went to her Graveyard. "Koi! Grand Siren Guardian Karund!" A large splash of water swamped the field, and from it, a large minke whale appeared behind Umimi. On its back was a woman in light green armor wielding a short sword and a shield.
Grand Siren Guardian Karund: Lv.9 WATER Fish ATK:800/DEF:800
"A Level 9 monster…" Takeru breathed.
"Just like Haruto-kun." Kohana noted.
"Kaado ichi mai settei. Turn end!" Umimi's facedown appeared.
"And you call me reckless!" Tobio jeered at Umimi.
This made the blue-haired girl snap to him. "I've got a better set up than your simple mind could ever think up, caveman brain!" Tobio and Umimi gave a lightning glare to each other, making Haruto and Dog-chan just look at each other.
Haruto eventually managed to speak. "Uh... If we're going ladies first, then that means you're next, Dog-chan."
"Oh, okay. Atashi no turn! Draw!" Dog-chan drew her card after getting over the slight startle. "Inumissile, Tokushu Shoukan!" Her monster appeared as a strange mechanical creature resembling a cross between a large dog and a rocket.
Inumissile: Lv.6 EARTH Beast ATK:2200/DEF:1500
Tobio immediately broke his glare to see this. "Oi, are all the girls cheaters? You can't just bring out a high-Level like that!"
Dog-chan jumped a bit. "I-Inumissile can be Special Summoned from my hand if my opponent controls a Level 6 or higher monster."
Hearing that made Tobio turn right back to glaring at Umimi. "Smooth move, girly!"
Umimi scoffed. "Like you could have done better."
Dog-chan blinked. These two were not likely stop any time soon. "K-Kaado ichi mai settei. Turn end." A facedown appeared on her field.
"You want to see better? I'll show you better!" Tobio snapped, facing forward. "Ore no turn! Draw!" He drew his card. "Sky Scout 2, Shoukan!" Appearing on Tobio's field with a bird-like caw was a dark-skinned man, but he wasn't entirely human, as blue wings spread from his back. He had spiky blonde hair and wore a blue mask, wielding a three-bladed blue claw on his wrist.
Sky Scout 2: Lv.4 WIND Winged Beast ATK:1800/DEF:600
"Next, Magic Card, Aerial Illusion, hatsudo!" Sky Scout 2 quickly took to the air and began flying around at incredible speeds, becoming little more than a blue and black blur that flashed overheard. "This card lets me Special Summon a certain monster from my hand or Deck!" Then, among the flashes of the speeding flyer, he almost seemed to… multiply. "Sky Scout Squadron, Tokushu Shoukan!" Sky Scout 2 descended back to the field, but the flashes kept happening overhead, even changing to a greenish color. Eventually, the flashes themselves slowed down, revealing a three-man squad of similar birdmen, each of them wearing green clothing, having black hair covered by helmets, and wielding a claw on the right hand that resembled a bird's foot.
Sky Scout Squadron: Lv.7 WIND Winged Beast ATK:2450/DEF:1300
"How do you like that, girly?" Tobio shouted with a taunting grin. "I got out two strong monsters, and you could only manage 1 weakling! HA HA!"
"Oh, please, that's nothing!" Umimi shot back.
Tobio ignored her, feeling a little too proud of himself at the moment. "Turn end!"
"Boku no turn! Draw!" Haruto drew his card and smiled. "Prototype Explorer, Shoukan!" His monster was a silver and blue machine with one end being half-dome-shaped, the other end being cross-shaped with flaps in an X shape, and a ring in the center.
Prototype Explorer: Lv.3 LIGHT Machine/Tuner ATK:600/DEF:300
"Antimatter Booster, Tokushu Shoukan!" An odd black machine emerged, apparently some type of rocket with a ring-like structure near the base. "Since I controlled a LIGHT Machine-Type monster with 1000 or less Attack Points, I was able to Special Summon it from my hand."
Antimatter Booster: Lv.6 DARK Machine ATK:900/DEF:300
"Haruto-kun's got a Tuner Monster, which means..." Kohana started.
"He's gonna Synchro Summon!" Takeru finished.
Haruto smirked. "Boku wa Reberu Roku no Antimatter Booster ni Reberu San no Prototype Explorer o Tyuningu!" The dome end of the silver machine had a blue light flash on it before morphing into six Level Stars. The stars changed into Synchro Summon Rings that Antimatter Booster flew through, exposing its six Level Stars, which lined up before a green light shot through the Rings. "Shinkuro Shoukan! Arawareyo, Alcubierre Warpship!" A massive portal that almost looked like a warp drive had opened appeared overhead, and from it, a large, almost limousine-like spaceship slowly moved into view. Its body had a cylindrical front and back, with a rectangular station on top with energy generators turning slowly. Green lights glowed on the front of it.
Alcubierre Warpship: Lv.9 LIGHT Machine/Synchro ATK:2000/DEF:2500
"Nice! Now Haruto and Dog-chan can meet those two on an equal playing field." Touya said, punching his palm for emphasis. Wanna barked in response.
"Alcubierre Warpship no kouka hatsudo! Once per turn, I can Special Summon a Level 8 or above Machine-Type monster with 1000 or less Attack Points from my Deck or Graveyard!" Another portal opened up, with a new starship emerging from it. "Ideyo, Deep-Space Cruiser IX!" The ship was silver in color with a long, needle-like body, blue lights glowing on its surface. Three spires jutted out from it, each of them having what appeared to be three orange metallic claws attached to the end.
Deep-Space Cruiser IX: Lv.9 LIGHT Machine ATK:900/DEF:900
"Two Level 9 monsters?" Umimi wondered.
"Is he gonna?" Tobio wondered.
They would quickly get the obvious answer. "Boku wa Reberu Kyu no, Alcubierre Warpship to Deep-Space Cruiser IX de, Obarei!" Both his monsters turned fully yellow before spiraling into the air. "Ni tai no monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" A massive red spiral portal opened up in the ground, and both his monsters flew into the center. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" From the portal, a yellow beam of light suddenly shot straight up into the Augmented sky, stretching out of view. The beam, having managed to reach even space, struck a massive black circular object surrounded by armor pieces that hung motionless in the cosmos. Then, the black object flared to life as an artificial sun, and the armor pieces activated, glowing blue. The armor slowly separated from its core in a slow spin, creating two metal "rings": One of twelve smaller pieces, and a MUCH larger ring of six armor pieces. "Arawareyo! Tengaisei (Canopy Star) - Niven Ring!" Then, the larger armor pieces shot out metal to each pieces, creating a large, solid ring of metal, two yellow Overlay Units orbiting the entire structure. The image of the monster appeared on an AR screen, since the monster was too far away to be seen by normal eyes.

"Suge (Whoa)!" Takeru, Kohana, and Touya all cried, stunned at this monster. Even Wanna seemed impressed, his big eyes staring at the image on the screen.
"N-N-Nanda…?" Umimi breathed.
Tobio had a giant grin on his face. "Hahahaha! That's what a boy's Deck can do!"
"Then why wasn't yours able to do that?"
"None of your business!"
Haruto rolled his eyes at the two of them. "Niven Ring, attack Grand Sea Guardian Karund!" The armor pieces on Niven's Ring's larger ring created a ring of blue energy on its underside. "Ringworld Destroyer!" As it crackled, the ring of energy was fired straight down. A twinkle appeared in the sky as the ring converged on itself into an orb, screaming to Earth.
However, Umimi quickly recovered from his shock, giving a sneaky smirk. "Continuous Trap, hatsudo! Siren's Song!" Her facedown flipped up. "While I control a Siren monster, I can target 1 monster my opponent controls with the same Level as my monster or lower, and it can become the attack target instead! Grand Siren Guardian Karund, sing your song for Sky Scout 2!" Karund sang a held note, joined by the song of her whale, which let out waves of blue energy. The energy affected Sky Scout 2, glazing over his eyes, before he jumped clean into the path of the attack, being vaporized in a brilliant explosion.

"NANI?! What the heck kind of cheat move was that?!" Tobio yelled.
Umimi just laughed. "I bet you never would've thought of that, huh, silly boy?"
"Leave it to a girl to use cheap manipulation to get her way! No skills of her own! Only using others! A man stands on his own two feet and grabs what he wants!"
Haruto growled, a big tic mark visible on his head. "Okay, you guys are REALLY starting to annoy me! Kaado ichi mai settei! Turn end!" A facedown appeared on his field.
"Atai no turn! Draw!" Umimi drew her card. "Magic Card, Shisha Sosei (Monster Reborn), hatsudo! This lets me Special Summon Grand Siren Knight Peraty from my Graveyard." From out of another splash of water, a new whale, a sperm whale, leapt out of the ground and onto the field. Riding on it back was a new woman, also in light armor, but with a tanner shade to her skin and different colored hair.
Grand Siren Knight Peraty: Lv.9 WATER Fish ATK:900/DEF:1000
"Peraty no kouka hatsudo! When it's Special Summoned, I can add a Trap Card from my Deck to my hand." A card slid out from her Deck, which she grabbed. "Kaado ichi mai settei. Turn end!"
"Atashi no turn... Draw!" Dog-chan drew her card, but when she saw it, she let out a happy gasp.
Haruto smiled, springing into action. "Trap, hatsudo! Gravity Hold!" His Trap flipped up and started giving off a gravitational field. "This card lets me add a monster with 1000 Attack Points or less from my Deck to my hand." The gravity pulled a card out of Haruto's Deck, letting him grab it. "But then, my opponent can Special Summon a monster from their hand!" He looked over at Dog-chan and nodded, and she returned the gesture with a giggle.
"Reflector Rover, Tokushu Shoukan!" Her monster appeared to be a cute silver pug, barking twice, but rather than a shadow, a projection of itself was visible on the ground.
Reflector Rover: Lv.1 DARK Beast ATK:100/DEF:100
"What's up with the weird graphics?" Tobio wondered.
Dog-chan snapped her fingers. "Reflector Rover no kouka hatsudo! If it's Special Summoned while I control another Beast-Type monster, its Level becomes equal to the Level of another Beast-Type monster I control!" Rover's reflection crossed into Inumissile's shadow, changing the reflection to one of Inumissile, Rover barking in response.
Reflector Rover: Lv.6
Tobio gulped. "Don't tell me she's gonna..."
He didn't get to finish his sentence. "Atashi wa Reberu Roku no Reflector Rover to Inumissile de Obarei!" Both of her monsters turned fully orange and purple before shooting into the air. "Ni tai no kemonozoku (Beast-Type) monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" A red spiral portal opened up in time for the monsters to sail into the circle. "Ekushiizu Shoukan! Ideyo!" The ground underneath them rumbled before a massive creature burst out of the ground. It was a large mechanical quadruped, colored like a large construction vehicle, having decorated construction shovels for paws. "Tunnel King Dog!" Its head was covered by a drill, which opened to reveal the head of a wolf of some sort, two orange Overlay Units circling the canine's body.

Tobio checked his Duel Disk, quickly getting a tic mark. "OI! You have two Level 9 Monsters!" He yelled at Umimi. "Care to explain why you couldn't Xyz Summon and take out that dog before this happened?"
"I can't Special Summon any more Grand Siren monsters when I Summon one! I couldn't Xyz Summon anything yet!" Umimi fired back with a tongue stickout for good measure, making Tobio facepalm.
Dog-chan sighed at them. "Tunnel King Dog no kouka hatsudo!" Tunnel King absorbed one of its Units by chomping it, then its drill covered its head once more, revving itself up. "By using an Overlay Unit, Tunnel King Dog can attack directly while in Defense Mode!"
"Nani?!" Tobio and Umimi both cried.
"Ike, Tunnel King Dog! Attack Umimi directly!" The large wolf dove back underground drill first, leaving a trail of disrupted ground in its wake as it burrowed right under Umimi's monsters. As the trail neared its target, Tunnel King Dog burst out of the ground with an echoing howl before its front paws impacted the earth, causing a potent shockwave that knocked Umimi flat on her butt. "The battle damage from an attack like this is cut in half, though."
"Every bit helps, Dog-chan." Haruto told her, making her smile. Umimi picked herself up from the hit as her Life Points dropped.

"Yosh! Now both those jerks are near the halfway point." Takeru chirped.
"One hit from Haruto-kun, and they're done." Kohana said.
"Kaado ichi mai settei! Turn end!" Dog-chan's facedown emerged.
"Looks like I'm gonna have to carry the weight here. Ore no turn! Draw!" Tobio drew his card. "Sky Sergeant, Shoukan!" His monster was another winged man, but his outfit looked like that of a high-ranking military officer, including a helmet with a few stars on it. Rather than wielding a simple claw on his arm, he was wielding a polearm with a claw attached to the front.
Sky Sergeant: Lv.4 WIND Winged Beast ATK:1400/DEF:1300
"Next, Magic Card, Triangle Razor Whirlwind, hatsudo!" The squadron of three birdmen arranged themselves in a triangle formation, their claws glowing brightly before they began dashing rapidly into each other's positions, creating powerful sharp winds. "Thanks to this card, my Squadron's Attack Points get boosted to 3000 even." The squadron then moved into a battle formation, their claws longer and sharper, the razor wind concentrated between them.

"A lot of good that does you! They've got more points than anything you've got!" Umimi griped.

Tobio shook his head. "Typical girl." He held up a card. "Seeing failure before it appears. Sky Sergeant no kouka hatsudo! I can discard a Sky Scout card from my hand," one card slid into his Graveyard, "and then I can Special Summon another Sky Scout monster from my Graveyard. Sky Scout 1, Tokushu Shoukan!" A monster that looked similar to the blonde birdman appeared, only having the original Sky Scout visage of spiky black hair, red wings, a red mask, and a red claw, shooting a cocky smirk.
Sky Scout 1: Lv.4 WIND Winged Beast ATK:1800/DEF:600
"Sky Scout 1 no kouka hatsudo! While he's on the field, all WIND monsters gain 300 Attack Points!" The black-haired birdman's claw glowed before he slashed with it, the wind filling all the monsters on Tobio's field with power.

"Bakana!" Haruto cried now that Tobio had enough to take out Niven Ring.
"Sky Scout Squadron, attack Niven Ring!" Tobio ordered. With a slash from each of their claws, the Squadron fired their razor wind, which actually went through the AR screen, increasing to enormous size. The wind surrounded the huge machine, each part being sliced rapidly until It began to effectively disintegrate, the core overloading and exploding, taking every little part with it.

Tobio sighed. 'Ok, one monstrosity down.' He thought to himself. 'I could attack Umimi's monsters to get her back for taking my monster as a shield, but if she can only Special Summon once a turn, we'll never win. Much as I hate to say it… I need her backing me up, at least for now.' "Kaado ichi mai settei! Turn end!" He said out loud as his facedown emerged.
"Boku no turn! Draw!" Haruto drew his card. 'Kuso... This won't help me.' He thought. "Kaado ni mai settei." Two facedowns emerged: One monster, one Magic or Trap. "Turn end."
"Atai no turn! Draw!" Umimi drew her card. "Atai wa Reberu Kyu no, Grand Siren Knight Karund to Peraty de, Obarei!" The riders of the whales let out yells, which their whales mimicked, before they all turned fully blue and shot into the air. "Ni tai no monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" Ared spiral portal opened up, and both her monsters sailed inside. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" A powerful burst of water erupted from the portal, creating a small pool where the portal was. "Rise up! Grand Siren Knight Swilore!" Then, something shot out of the pool, being a large white narwhal, ridden by a woman in golden armor, armed with a powerful-looking staff. The rider's blonde hair flowed freely as two blue Overlay Units circled her aquatic steed.

Tobio just stared at the new monster, mostly in disbelief. "2000 Attack Points? All that stalling for THIS?"
"You don't know anything. For one, my one Grand Siren a turn rule doesn't apply to the Xyz Monsters of my Deck." Umimi explained.
"Okay...?"
"And since I have an Xyz Monster on my field," Umimi played a new card, "Grand Siren Knight Pamders, Tokushu Shoukan!" This new monster looked like a giant orca, and riding it was a pink-haired woman in what looked like a blue battle dress.

"Grand Siren Knight Swilore no kouka hatsudo! With her on the field, all "Siren" Monsters I control gain 500 Attack Points!" The narwhal let out a loud cry, filling itself and Pamders' whale with energy, causing their eyes to glow.

"Next, Pamders no kouka hatsudo! Once per turn, one monster my opponent control has its Attack and Defense Points switched, then cut in half!" Umimi pointed at Dog-chan's monster. "I target Tunnel King Dog!" Pamders pointed forward with a grunt, and her orca opened its mouth to let out a loud sonic wave, striking the mechanical canine and causing it to malfunction, a whine being heard from it.

"Swilore no kouka hatsudo!" One of Swilore's Overlay Units was absorbed by her narwhal's tusk. "By detaching 1 Overlay Unit, all Siren monsters I control inflict piercing damage this turn! Swilore, attack Tunnel King Dog!" Swilore's whale swam through the air, putting itself high up before looping into a nosedive aimed right at Dog-chan's monster, their bodies collecting moisture from the air to surround them in a veil of water. "Tidal Crash Lance!" As her whale neared the target, Swilore pointed her staff forward, the water concentrating into it to create a massive water lance, and using the speed from the nosedive, she drove this powerful weapon right into Tunnel King Dog's front, causing a chain reaction within it that resulted in its complete destruction. Dog-chan let out a groan as she shielded herself from the force, Swilore's whale effortlessly u-turning to return to Umimi's field.

"Now, Pamders, attack her directly!" Umimi ordered. "Song of Perishing!" The other whale rider began singing a rather beautiful-sounding song, but with a sudden glare from her, the song quickly became off-key, manifesting as harmful black sonic waves.
Dog-chan had to cover her ears due to the grating noise, but the sound carried even more force, knocking her off her feet. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" She screamed as she was flung like a rag doll, landing on the ground in a heap. "UGH!" Her hat had been knocked clean off her head from the force.

Haruto quickly ran to her side, a concerned, almost scared look on his face. "Are you ok, Dog-chan?" He asked, helping her sit up.
Dog-chan shook her head to shake off the impact, blinking. "Yeah, I'm all right. Can you get me my hat?" Haruto nodded, walking over to where the hat landed.
Tobio had a skeptical look on his face. "Was his Trap just a bluff, or is he just letting the girl take the hits?"
Haruto gave Dog-chan back her hat. "Glad you're all right, because it's time for a comeback. Trap, hatsudo! Bold Entrance!" Two wormholes opened up behind them. "Since a direct attack went through, me and my opponent can both Special Summon a monster from our Decks with Attack Points equal to or less than the damage inflicted!"
"Eh? So it wasn't a bluff?" Tobio realized.
"You're actually helping a girl?" Umimi asked.
"I'm helping my partner!" Haruto shot back, nodding at Dog-chan.
The pink-haired girl nodded back, putting her hat back where it belonged. "Pack Dog Alpha, Tokushu Shoukan!" From out of the wormhole behind her, a new monster appeared, looking like a rather large doberman with large claws, the fur on its head spiked similar to a crown. Oddly, it wore a collar with a tag, the tag having a lowercase Alpha letter on it.

"And for me, I pick this one!" Haruto slapped his card on his Disk. "Tokushu Shoukan!" A miniature model of some massive space station (thus meaning it was quite large on the field) emerged from the wormhole behind him. It had a ring with a large cylindrical attachment, and three large flaps on the ring. Emblazoned on the front was a large Roman numeral "III". "O'Neill Cylinder - Island Three!"

"Nice, look like they're on their way to making a comeback." Touya noted with a grin. Even Wanna was impressed, letting out a happy bark.
"Got any bright ideas now?" Tobio asked Umimi.
Umimi ignored him. "Kaado ichi mai settei! Turn end!"
"Atashi no turn! Draw!" Dog-chan drew her card. "Pack Dog Alpha no kouka hatsudo!" The doberman let out a resonating howl. "Once per turn, if I don't control any other Beast-Type monsters, I can Special Summon Pack Dog Omega from my Deck!" Emerging from the ground was a smaller dog of the same breed as Alpha, wearing a collar whose tag had a capital letter Omega on it.

"Another low-Level?" Umimi wondered.
"Pack Dog Omega no kouka hatsudo! Since it was Special Summoned by Pack Dog Alpha's effect, its Level becomes the same as Alpha!" The smaller dog joined its leader's howl, making them both louder.

"Furthermore, Chain Dog, Shoukan!" This monster was a black-and-white dog wrapped in chains with a lock around its neck, holding a key in its mouth.

"Here it comes!" Kohana chirped.
"Dog-chan's about to bring out the big dog himself." Touya mused. Everything just went stone quiet at that line, Kohana and Takeru just staring at Touya with blank looks. Wanna let out a howl at the failed attempt at comedy. It took a few seconds for Touya to realize the frigid reception. "What?"
"Lame joke is lame, man." Takeru said, making Touya sweatdrop.
"Atashi wa Reberu Yon no Pack Dog Alpha, Pack Dog Omega, Chain Dog, Obarei!" Dog-chan's three monsters turned fully orange before shooting into the air. "San tai no monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" Another red spiral portal opened up, absorbing the three monsters. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" Steam billowed from the portal, covering the field as a silhouette came into form within. "Come forth, legendary dog from the older days!" The steam began to recede, revealing four black legs with gold spike collars, red-and-gold fabrics draped over a black body. "Sumo King Dog!" The steam finally revealed the black-and-orange canine head, a white rope wrapped around its neck. Its pink eyes glowed as it let out a low, echoing "WOOF", three orange Overlay Units orbiting it.

"Nice one, Dog-chan!" Haruto chirped.
Dog-chan winked with a giggle. "And I've got more! Magic Card, Vicious Bark, hatsudo! Since I control a Beast-Type Xyz Monster, I can destroy one card you control!" Sumo King Dog's eyes flashed before it let out a loud and tough bark, sending out a sonic wave at Siren's Song.
"Trap hatsudo, Cancelling Sound!" Umimi's facedown flipped up. "This card can negate 1 effect that targets a card I control for each Siren I control!"
"Sumo King Dog no kouka hatsudo! By using an Overlay Unit when a Trap Card is activated, the activation is negated and the card is destroyed!"
"Ah ah ah ah!" Umimi taunted, wagging her finger. "Since I control a Siren Xyz Monster, you can't activate any cards or effects in response to Cancelling Sound!"
"NANI?!" Dog-chan, Haruto, Touya, Takeru, and Kohana all cried. Swilore began to sing a heavenly song that steadily rose in volume, drowning out Sumo King's bark until the sound wave completely dissipated.
"Kuso!" Haruto groaned.
"It's ok, Haruto-kun. I can still try and make some progress. Sumo King Dog, attack Sky Sergeant!" With agility no one ever thought possible for something of its size, the giant dog began running towards the larger birdman, letting out low woofs each time its paws hit the ground.
"Quick-Play Spell, Blown Back, hatsudo!" Tobio's facedown flipped up. "By releasing a WIND monster, your attack is negated!" Sky Scout 1 moved in front of his commander and gave a large flap of his wings, surrounding himself in a tornado as he dissipated into energy. The energy then made the tornado glow green before it exploded into a powerful burst of wind, slamming right into Sumo King Dog to stop its charge, throwing it right back to where it started. "And after that, I get to draw one card." He said, drawing a card.
"Aw, man! She could have had him!" Takeru cried.
Dog-chan's head drooped in disappointment, Haruto looking over at her in worry. "T-Turn end."
"Ore no turn! Draw!" Tobio drew his card. "Sky Ace, Shoukan!" A new birdman loop-de-looped onto the field, having a much more swagged-out attire than the others, including a sky blue jacket and snazzy white shoes. His blonde hair was done up in a pompadour, and instead of a mask, he wore black shades. A sword with a claw-like blade was slung over his shoulder.
Sky Ace: Lv.4 WIND Winged Beast ATK:1200/DEF:1000
"Sky Ace no kouka hatsudo! First, I return my Sky Scout Squadron to my hand." The trio of identical birdmen vanished, morphing into a card that reappeared in Tobio's hand. "Then, I could Normal summon again, but instead, Sky Sergeant no kouka hatsudo!" Tobio discarded his regained Squadron card as the lead birdman pulled out a whistle and blew hard. "Sky Scout 3, Tokushu Shoukan!" A new monster emerged that resembled the first two Sky Scouts, but this one had green wings, green marks on his outfit, green claws, and a green mask, as well as spiky orange hair.
Sky Scout 3: Lv.4 WIND Winged Beast ATK:1800/DEF:600
"There's another one of those things?" Haruto wondered.
"Sky Scout used to get lumped in with the Harpies, so somebody decided to fully duplicate them in the form of a manlier archetype, beating the Harpies at their own game and proving who's really superior." Tobio explained with a smirk and muscle flex, ignoring the fact that Umimi was glaring at him with a tic mark on her head from that remark.
Takeru scratched his head. "Okay, I'm confused. How does copying an existing archetype make it better?"
"How many Harpie Decks do you see today? Zero." Tobio said, his fingers held in a zero representation. "This Deck is all the rage right now, and now, I'll show you some of its full power!" He thrust his hand up. "Ore wa Reberu Yon no Sky Scout 3, Sky Ace to, Sky Sergeant de Obarei!" His three monsters clashed their weapons before turning fully green and spiraling into the air. "San tai no kazezokusei (WIND) monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" A red spiral portal opened up, and all three monsters sailed inside. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" Two large green wings spread across the air, but part of the wings appeared to become invisible. "The future is now! Witness the latest innovation in aerial combat!" An armored birdman appeared with night vision goggles on his face, grabbing hold of reins. "Koi, Sky Scout's Stealth Wyvern!" The reins were attached to a green wyvern decked out in dark green armor, making its whole body resemble a military jeep, but part of its body appeared camouflaged, turning it partially invisible. 3 green Overlay Units circled the beast as it let out a roar.

Tobio looked over at Umimi. "Much as I hate to say it, I still need you for a little bit yet." Umimi was actually surprised to hear that. "So..." Tobio then gave Dog-chan a cruel glare. "I'll take you out first. Stealth Wyvern!" He points at Dog-chan. "Direct attack!" The wyvern roared again before taking to the air.
"EH?! But Dog-chan still has a monster out!" Kohana cried.
Tobio chuckled. "The point of stealth is that you don't see them coming, and Stealth Wyvern can attack the opponent directly, even if there's a monster out! Go, Stealth Bombard!" Eyeing its target in mid-air, Stealth Wyvern activated its camouflage, turning itself fully invisible before charging forward. Weapons came out of its armor, ready to bomb Sumo King Dog to the ground.
However, Dog-chan's head rose up from its droop… showing a very harsh glare on her face. "Trap, hatsudo! Scent Attack!" When her Trap flipped up, Sumo King Dog gave a heavy sniff, and in its vision, it could then see Stealth Wyvern as a yellow mass.
"Nani?"
"If you somehow attack me directly while I control a Beast-Type monster, this card forces you to attack one of my Beast-Type monsters instead!" Dog-chan growled, punctuating her sentence by gnashing her teeth. Then, Sumo King Dog actually jumped into the air, baring its teeth and grabbing Stealth Wyvern out of the air, disabling its cloak. The two monsters fell back to the ground, and Sumo King Dog began shaking the wyvern around. "No monsters can be destroyed by battle when I use Scent Attack, but the Battle Damage goes up by 500." Sumo King then chucked Stealth Wyvern back to Tobio's field, barking fiercely at it. The impact knocked Wyvern's rider clean off its back.

Tobio groaned. "Kuso… Turn end."
"This is getting intense..." Takeru breathed, looking at the glaring Dog-chan.
"Boku no turn! Draw!" Haruto drew his card. "Because I control a Machine-Type monster with 1000 or less Attack Points, I can banish a Machine-Type monster with 1000 or less Attack Points from my Graveyard to Special Summon this card from my hand!" Prototype Explorer vanished from the Graveyard, and his new monster appeared, looking very similar to his previous one, but it was emblazoned with a "I" rather than a "III". "O'Neill Cylinder - Island One!"
O'Neill Cylinder - Island One: Lv.9 LIGHT Machine ATK:500/DEF:1000
Umimi stepped back, knowing what might be coming, but Tobio stood firm with a smirk. "Bishop Ring, Ribaasu Shoukan!" His facedown monster flipped up to reveal a strange ring-shaped space pod.

"This card can be released as two monsters for a Machine-Type monster with 1000 or less Attack Points! Bishop Ring disintegrated into particles, creating a portal. "Adobansu Shoukan! Ideyo, O'Neill Cylinder - Island Two!" A third machine that resembled the other two appeared from the portal, this one emblazoned with a "II".
O'Neill Cylinder - Island Two: Lv.9 LIGHT Machine ATK:500/DEF:2000
"Three Level 9 monsters?" Umimi cried.
"Here goes!" Haruto yelled, pointing his arm to the sky. "Boku wa Reberu Kyu no Island One, Two, Three, Obarei!" All three of his near-identical models turned fully yellow before shooting into the air. "San tai no monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" Another massive spiral portal opened up, absorbing all the Materials. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" Another beam of light shot up into space, morphing into another massive machine. "Arawareyo! Tengaisei…" This one was a disk-shaped machine with eight large extensions opening up around the perimeter, making it resemble an eight-pointed star with a circular center. "Alderson Disk!" An AR screen appeared, showing the monster.

"Yosh! Haruto's got another one!" Touya chirped.
"They don't stand a chance now!" Kohana added.
"And there's even more from that! Each of my O'Neill Cylinders has the same second effect: Since I used them to Xyz Summon a Rank 9 monster, I get to draw one card for each of them!" Haruto drew three cards.
"That's not good." Umimi groaned.
Tobio rolled his eyes. "Oh, big deal."
"Let's get the advantage back!" Haruto declared. "Alderson Disk, attack Grand Siren Knight Pamders!" Alderson's core glowed a bright blue before a laser cannon descended from the bottom, charging energy ominously. "Crust Crusher... FIRE!" With a flash of the core to indicate the charge's completion, the cannon unleashed a powerful laser of blue energy, crackling with electricity, screaming through space before barreling through the atmosphere and toward its target.
Umimi quickly tried to act. "Siren's Song no ko-" She was cut off when she noticed her Trap sparking and not activating. "Nani?!"
"Sorry, girly, but Wyvern's stealth technology keeps it from being targeted, by battle OR effects!" Tobio said with a grin, giving her a thumbs-down.
Umimi freaked out. "B-But that means-!" She looked back up at the laser streaking down, before desperately looking through her hand. "Come on! Come on! What can I do?!" She shrieked, desperate for a solution. What she wanted eluded her, though, as the laser slammed into Pamders, causing her and her whale to cry out in pain before being eradicated, the force of the blast knocking Umimi into the air. "WAAAAAAAAHHHH!" Her landing was harsh, actually knocking off her D-Gazer.

"HA! How do you like that, you weak little girl?!" Tobio shrieked with a crap-eating grin.
Umimi didn't say anything, merely laying there as she trying to catch the wind that the laser knocked out of her. However, when the smoke cleared, something else had changed: A new monster had appeared, being a gray whale ridden by a red-haired woman wielding a bow and arrow, though her yellow armor looked less fancy than the others before her. "NANI?!" Everyone else cried, seeing that she still had another monster.
Umimi slowly managed to stand back up, gasping a bit for air. "Than... Thankfully... I found... Siren Knight... Lovemi... in my hand." She panted, replacing her lost D-Gazer. "She can be... Special Summoned... when a Siren monster's destroyed." She took a deep breath to get herself right again. "It might not have saved my Life Points, but it's at least one more defense if something else goes wrong."
Siren Knight Lovemi: Lv. 6 WATER Fish ATK:500/DEF:2500
"Man, so close." Haruto groaned. "Kaado ichi mai settei. Turn end." A facedown emerged on his field.
Umimi finally felt her breathing return to normal. "I'll admit it. Some boys are better than girls," she then shot a glare at Tobio, "and some are just as egotistical as you'd expect." Then she actually gave Haruto a smile. "Good move there, Haruto."
Touya threw his hands up into the air. "Finally, some progress here."
"Guess that means I win!" Tobio cried.
"Not by a long shot! Atai no turn! Draw!" Umimi drew her card. "Because I control a Siren Xyz Monster, I can Normal Summon Grand Siren Knight Myrus without releasing anything!" Another splash of water resulted in a humpback whale emerging, with this one's rider wielding a magic wand.
Grand Siren Knight Myrus: Lv.10 WATER Fish ATK:750/DEF:1550
"Next, Trap, hatsudo! Limit Reverse!" Umimi's facedown flipped up. "This card lets me Special Summon a monster with 1000 or less Attack Points from my Graveyard!" A purple portal opened up in the ground. "Yomigaere, Grand Siren Knight Pamders!" From out of the portal, the orca and its rider returned, the former curled up.
"Nani?! How'd you do that?!" Tobio cried. "Your own effects are supposed to-!"
"While I control Lovemi, I can Summon as many Grand Siren monsters as I can, ignoring their effects!" Umimi explained. "Myrus no kouka hatsudo! Once per turn, I can make another Siren monster's Level equal to her own." Myrus waved her wand for a moment before casting a spell at Lovemi, coating her with a golden aura.

"E-Eh?! 3 Level 10 monsters?" Tobio cried.
Umimi's gaze went steeled. "Atai wa Reberu Juu no Siren Knight Lovemi, Grand Siren Knight Pamders to Myrus de, Obarei!" All three of her monsters turned fully blue and shot into the air. "San tai no monsuta de, Obarei Netwaaku kochiku!" A red spiral portal opened up and absorbed all three Sirens. "Ekushiizu Shoukan!" Another massive burst of water erupted from the portal. "Oh, majestic queen, grace this field with your presence! Lead your people to victory!" A loud, resonating call emerged from the water before a massive blue whale thrashed its way out, causing a small tidal wave behind it with a lash of its tail. "Arawareyo! Grand Siren Sovereign Monrilyn!" When the whale was fully out of the water, one could see a fancy throne set up on its back. Sitting on this throne was a new woman, the most beautiful of them all, with the fanciest outfit to boot, complete with a crown atop her ocean blue hair. Eyeing her opposition skeptically, Monrilyn straightened her crown and let out a grunt, mirrored by her steed. Three blue Overlay Units orbited the giant aquatic beast.

"Suge…" Takeru breathed. "I knew Haruto-kun could make strong stuff out of weak cards… but this is on another level!"
"Haruto-kun and Dog-chan can still win this, though!" Kohana cried, Wanna barking in agreement.
"Monrilyn no kouka hatsudo! While in the presence of their queen, all other Siren monsters gain 1000 Attack Points!" Monrilyn gave a smile to Swilore, causing her to swell with pride. "Add to that the effect of Swilore, and...well, you do the math, Tobio!"

Umimi gave a sneaky smirk. "Who said I was aiming there?"
Tobio was confused for a moment, but realization struck him like a brick. "Oh yeah!" He grinned at Dog-chan, who was still glaring without a word. "You're still a prime target!"
"Wrong again." Umimi said lowly, glaring at him.
"Eh?"
Kohana, Takeru, and Touya all shouted at once: "She's gunning for you, dummy!"
Tobio went silent for a moment. "...Bahahahahahahaha! Did you forget? You can't attack my Sky Scout monsters since Stealth Wyvern's on the field!"
Umimi gave a wicked grin. "Don't be so sure. Monrilyn no kouka hatsudo!" The blue whale inhaled and gulped down one of its Overlay Units before bellowing a very low-pitched song that shook the ground. Stealth Wyvern and even Alderson Disk vibrated when hit by the sound waves. "Now all monsters other than Sirens have their effects negated."
"NANI?!" Tobio cried with a backstep.
Monrilyn: 2 Overlay Units
Umimi had a dark stare on her face. "I can understand my taking your monsters to protect my own without asking as being a low blow… but you not stepping up to protect me, your tag partner, when the chips are down?" She snapped. "Forgive me when I say... ALL BETS ARE OFF!" Tobio backstepped again, clearly scared. Dog-chan, meanwhile, let out an angry snarl. "Swilore, attack Stealth Wyvern! Tidal Crash Lance!" Swilore twirled her staff as it became coated with water, then she threw it toward Tobio's weakened dragon, the staff picking up speed and spinning like a drill. The staff eventually struck the wyvern's rider right in the chest at an angle that actually resulted in it also piercing the dragon itself, making them both cry out in pain before a watery explosion eradicated them, sending Tobio flying toward a harsh landing on the ground.

Umimi let out a sigh. "I'm sorry to say, though, he did have a point. But somehow, I wonder if you have another plan to protect your partner, Haruto." Haruto groaned. His facedown was not ready for that. He looked over at Dog-chan, who was still eerily silent with a glare plastered on her face. Then, still without speaking or even blinking, the pink-haired girl slowly rose her arm, gesturing with her hand at Umimi to bring it on, making the blue-haired girl smile. "Are you tempting me? Let's see what you've got, then. Monrilyn, attack Sumo King Dog! Perfect Pitch Rally Anthem!" Monrilyn began singing another beautiful song, her whale joining in the aria, and their voices began forming a giant orb of musical energy. Then, with a loud note, the orb was fired toward Dog-chan's monster as a musical laser beam.
Another growl came from the angry girl. "…Trap, hatsudo! Xyz Blood Bond!"
"Nani?" Umimi gasped.
"I can only activate this card if there are two or more Xyz Monsters on my side of the field, and one of them is attacked. Now, half the Attack Points of the one not being attacked are given to the attack target!" Dog-chan snapped to Haruto, nodding at him.
Haruto nodded back. "Alderson Disk, begin power transfer to Sumo King Dog!" Alderson Disk's core shot a blue light down from above, covering Sumo King Dog and transferring energy to it, causing it to let out a loud bark.

Umimi let out a light, clearly nervous laugh. "Well, that's how it goes-"
"Divided you fall, Umimi-chan!" Dog-chan snapped at her as Sumo King Dog let out a loud howl, opening its mouth to fire a powerful blue laser beam that smashed clean through the music beam and right into Monrilyn's whale, causing both it and her to cry in pain before being obliterated, Umimi being knocked back a few feet from the force.

Haruto & Dog-chan: WIN
"YEAH!" Touya, Takeru, and Kohaku cheered as the buzzer blared, Wanna barking happily.
Haruto let out a breath, but then he noticed Dog-chan approaching the downed Umimi. "Dog-chan?" He asked, getting no answer from her.
Umimi sat up, shaking her head and taking off her D-Gazer. She looked over at Tobio, who had passed out in shock from being beat, and scoffed. "If only..."
"If only WHAT?" Dog-chan's irate voice started Umimi, making her turn to see Dog-chan glaring at her. Haruto looked nervous, clearly not familiar with this side of her.
Whatever Umimi had planned on saying immediately left her, her mind having gone mostly blank from the angry eyes boring into her soul. "Uh..."
"There was no reason for either of you to not work together!" Dog-chan growled at her, stomping her foot. "It wasn't just Tobio-kun! You didn't stand up for him, either!"
'Whoa... I didn't think Dog-chan could get angry...' Haruto thought.
Umimi pulled the cards out of her Graveyard and laid them out on the ground with her remaining hand. "Our argument aside, if I could've, I would've, but do these cards look like they could have been use to protect me, let alone him?"
"That doesn't mean you don't try!" Dog-chan countered. "Haruto-kun and I have different Decks, but we managed to still work together!" Her body began to shake as her angry gave way to sadness, tears forming in her eyes. "You guys could've done something amazing... but you just... argued!" Dog-chan finally broke down, falling to her knees and crying into her hands. Seeing this made Haruto run up beside her and place his hands on her shoulders, trying to comfort her.
"You're right, and I realized that when your partner helped you." Umimi said. "Believe me, after he set you up to bring out your Sumo King Dog, I was ready to turn over a new leaf… but Tobio showed his true colors when he summoned Stealth Wyvern."
"How, just by Summoning his own Xyz Monster?" Haruto told her. "Did you ever think about the fact that maybe he was trying to get some more power to HELP you?"
Hearing that sentence made Tobio come back to reality, leaping to his feet in an instant. "Help HER?! After all she did during the duel to use me, you expect me to HELP HER?!" He shouted. "You saw the way she treated me! My cards were nothing but toys to her!" He glared at Umimi. "You want to blame me for us losing? Just remember that you gave me no reason to help you!" Tobio turned his back on her, but his body began to shake. "You actually had awesome cards... but you used them against me! What was I supposed to do, rush to your rescue every time?" Glancing back, he showed that he actually had tears in his eyes. "I might've been a jerk, but at least I never tried to hurt you!"
"Don't you do that! Don't you DARE make me the villain here!" Umimi cried, upset. "I could have taken your Squadron and used it to block that first attack, but I took Sky Scout instead because he had the better chance against their monsters! My monsters have crappy Attack Points and can only appear in Attack Mode, and my hand was equally as crappy, so I could barely try and protect myself, let alone you!" She pointed at him. "And this is all your fault in the first place, because you're the one who started this whole fiasco!"
"Both of you, KNOCK IT OFF!" Touya, Takeru, and Kohana all shouted at once, startling both Tobio and Umimi, making them jump.
"Just... stop, all right?" Touya said. "It's BOTH your faults that this happened." Tobio and Umimi both "Eh?"'d in response. "This entire thing started because of what? Some stupid argument based on who's better?"
"It's his fault! He's the one that started it!" Umimi cried, pointing at Tobio.
"Did not!"
"Did too! Ever since you got that new Deck of yours, all you've been saying was that it was even been than Mai's! And then you said that it was because boys are better than girls, and the cards even show that because Sky Scout is stronger than Harpie Lady!"
"ENOUGH!" Takeru shouted, making them jump again. "It doesn't MATTER who started it! You both kept it going! Didn't you two used to be friends?"
"Only until he kept rubbing his so called fact of life in my face!" Umimi cried, tears starting to form in her eyes. "It was like he didn't think we were on the same level anymore! Do you know how much it hurts to hear your best friend think you don't matter anymore because of something as stupid as who you are?!"
"I do now!"
Umimi immediately stopped her train of thought. "E-Eh?" She turned to Tobio, who was covering his eyes.
"I know I hurt you! I was too stupid to realize it back then!" Tobio managed to say through shudders, slowly calming down. Tears could be seen through his fingers. "But when you took me out... that hurt me, too. I wanted to be angry, but... I knew I deserved it after that!"
All of Umimi's past anger just seemed to shatter at the sight of Tobio like this, even more of a wreck than she was. Sure, she was hurt, too, but he clearly regretted what he did… and now he was hurt, too, because she let it get to her. Flashbacks of their times together as friends went through her head… and she wanted those times back. Sobbing, Umimi quickly rushed at him, snaring him in a tight hug, shocking the boy. "G-Gomen, Tobio!" She cried, crying into his chest.
Tobio stared at her, unsure what to do, but the feeling of wanting their friendship back hit him as well, making him hug Umimi back. "G-Gomen, Umimi." He whimpered, sniffling once.
Touya, Takeru, and Kohana all looked at them with sympathy. "You see, guys? It doesn't matter what caused it. Because you both kept arguing, you both hurt each other!"
Tobio and Umimi let go of each other. "She's right. I let it get to me." Umimi admitted, looking at Tobio with teary eyes. "You never really meant it, did you, Tobio?"
Tobio gulped. "I d-don't even remember if I did or not. I hope I didn't, though." He said.
Umimi, hoping to make the situation less tense, gave a light laugh. "C-Come on, let's go home."
Tobio replied with a shaky nod. "I'll ask Kaa-chan if she'll buy us milkshakes."
The two of them began to walk off, with Umimi being heard saying "…That sounds great."
Eventually, the two got far away enough that they were out of earshot, making everyone (except Dog-chan, who was still on her knees) sigh. "Yeah, they love each other." Kohana said.
"Hopefully that argument got most of their future problems out of them early." Touya mused, making them and Takeru laugh.
Haruto, however, was concerned about his pink-haired friend, kneeling back down to her level. "Dog-chan, what happened back there?" He asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
Dog-chan sniffled as she tried to speak. "...My Tou-chan was a Pro Tag Duelist. He always told me: 'Leave your past troubles with your partner behind. The Tag Duel is the way to repair your bond.'"
Haruto nodded in understanding. "Well, in a way, he was right."
Dog-chan wiped some of her tears away. "Yeah... but seeing them fight even on the same team... It just..." She trailed off her sentence with a growl. Wanna walked over and gave her a few licks to try and cheer her up. It worked somewhat, making Dog-chan give a small smile as she picked her dog up. "Arigatou, Wanna." Wanna barked.
Haruto helped Dog-chan to her feet. "In the end, though, that fighting helped finally clear the air between them."
"Yeah..." Dog-chan breathed, looking at the two kids as they left the park. "…I just hope it stays that way."
