Sleep? What is sleep? The whole night was incredibly productive so sleep wasn't happening. I stared over at the clock on Levi's nightstand and sighed. It'd be just under a couple hours before I had to be up anyway, I might as well get up now. I looked over at the Captain sleeping soundly. God damn my deviant nature. Making this a thing would make my plans significantly more difficult but there was no way I could give up such a good lay. No matter what kind of a pain in the ass he was, I just had to tread extra carefully with my plans. If getting my rocks off this well meant a few more headaches later on, so be it. I slipped out of his down comforter snatching my clothes out of his bathroom, dressing quickly and quietly; constantly checking to make sure I didn't wake him up.
Finally free; I took a sigh of relief as I closed the bedroom door behind me, walking barefoot back to my room. The HQ was nearly dead silent, minus the sounds from outside whispering through. My room was dark and cold as I entered, the silence of not having Petra in the other bed was rather unnerving. Maybe I will request a room change soon.
"Welcome back, Alessa." Greg's voice almost made me die.
"Can you PLEASE wear a bell." I growled, as I turned to his leaning figure across the room. "What the hell are you doing in here?" An eerie smile spread across his face.
"I spoke to your brother tonight…and you know, he mentioned something really interesting…" my heart sunk. Shit, this isn't going to be good. "Apparently sleeping with Captain Levi is a new addition to your plans?" I opened my mouth to retort but he spoke over me, "I really didn't want to believe it, honestly. Why would Alessa Evans make things harder for herself? But then I saw you, following him like a puppy dog right to his room. I've got to say Alessa, you've got quite the stamina to be in there til now don't you…" His eerie grin didn't waver. He stood just staring coldly, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Look, my recreational activities are none of your business Greg. If I want a good fuck, regardless of who it is, I'll find one." He let out a quiet chuckle.
"The Captain of all people though? That's a dangerous move, and even you know that. How much are you really wanting to risk here?" I stared at him silently; he did not deserve an explanation. He was just a wrench in all my plans. "You know, you could make this a whole lot easier and just kill the titan boy like you were supposed to and get back to your family." I watched him intently as he stood up from the wall, closing some of the gap between us. He was like a jaguar stalking its prey.
"I'm not killing the boy yet. He's too valuable for information, I'm not going to jeopardize that just because my father wants me home." In a split second, Greg closed the last of the gap between us, pushing me into the wall, his hand around my throat, slowly tightening.
"If you take your time, I am only going to make this harder on you. Your father has specific instructions, Alessa, and you will follow them." I glared daggers at him, gripping his wrist tightly, the pressure getting increasingly more uncomfortable. "Your brother should be nearly home by now, seeing as I let him escape. You should know, this is going to blow up in your face and no one can save you if you don't start acting like a good girl." I struggled against his grasp, the corners of my vision clouding with black. If he doesn't let up soon, I might end up suffocating. "Maybe I'll let you play your game just a little longer, this is quite a good look on you, I might make this a habit." He smiled wide tightening his grip. I could feel my strength fading as darkness came flooding my field of vision. He threw me hard to the ground, stepping down on my hand; the pain bringing me right back around. I stifled a scream as I heard a loud crack. "Be a good girl from now on Alessa, or I'm going to make you my little play thing." I held my tongue as he took his time releasing my hand before stepping back into the shadows and leaving the room. I let out a sigh of relief, though the pain in my hand was intense. Something was definitely broken. I couldn't afford to fight back even if I had the ability, that sort of commotion this early in the morning would send the Survey Corps in a frenzy.
I sat up on the floor, wincing as I slowly crawled my way up to the bed before standing up. Every move to get dressed was increasingly more painful than the last. How the hell was I going to explain this? How the hell was I going to explain Jason's disappearance? All eyes are going to be on me and the backlash of this was only going to get worse. I quietly made my way down to the medical area, only one nurse on duty thankfully. She looked at me quizzically as I lied my way through why I had a broken hand a 4:30 in the morning. It took some coercing, but she wrapped my hand the best she could and gave me some pain killers.
The dining hall was my next stop, hopefully to get some food before anyone else could notice me up and about. I sat down at the table with my small plate of food, taking a second trip for my coffee. I sighed, getting anything done today was going to be hell with a broken hand.
"What the hell happened to you?" Levi's voice was quiet as he entered the dining hall. The last person I needed right now.
"Nothing." I couldn't get away with the same lie that I told the nurse. Levi was too smart, especially since just a couple of hours ago we were together and I wasn't injured. His eyes pierced into my face as he sat down with his coffee.
"So still not going to trust me, huh?" I glanced sideways at him. He looked like he had a good nights rest regardless of the fact we didn't pass out until almost 2 or 3.
"There's still some things I'm not ready to share with you, Levi, sorry." I grumbled, wincing at the shooting pain in my hand. When would these pain killers kick in? He watched me intently as I struggled to eat in silence.
"Good morning Captain, miss Alessa." Greg's voice was sweet as he walked into the dining hall followed by a few more people. A chill went up my spine as my face immediately went stone cold. I said nothing, just continued eating. I didn't notice Levi's eyes darting from me to Greg and back, obviously noting the tension radiating off of me. He just nodded at Greg as Greg sat next to me. My demeanor almost changed but I had to remember to keep my poker face on. I forced a smile at Greg and half waved. I couldn't swallow my breakfast fast enough before I almost ran out of the dining hall. I just wanted to get my work done.
I b-lined straight to the stables, staying as far out of sight as I could, petting my horse once I approached. Immediately I let myself calm down, grabbing the brush and brushing her neck gently, getting the dust and dirt off of her. A commotion erupted as I took the next hour tending to my horse. I didn't dare move. I knew what it was about and I dreaded the backlash that was for sure coming my way. And as if on que, the blue eyed giant, almost seething in rage came around the corner staring me down. I stared lazily back at him, letting him know with just a look that he didn't scare me.
"What did you do with him?" He half growled. I shook my head.
"I have no idea what you're talking about Commander."
"DON'T PLAY STUPID." This time he grabbed my arm, ripping me away from my horse. I glared up at him, ripping my arm back from his grasp. "Your brother, where is he?" The Commander huffed, ready to lunge.
"If he isn't here, probably home." My voice was almost bored, but not once did my gaze waver from the Commander's.
"Why would he be home?" I cocked my eyebrow, turning and tossing the brush on the small bench in the stable.
"Well, if he's gone, there's only one place he'd go. That would be home. Because my father, who you seem to keep underestimating and not heeding my warnings about, will ensure his safety."
"You let him free didn't you?" I shook my head nonchalantly. "DON'T LIE TO ME OR YOU'LL END UP IN THAT CELL YOURSELF."
"She's not lying." Captain Levi's voice joined the fray. I glanced over at him curiously. "I can account for her whereabouts last night." Erwin glanced over at Levi. Silence followed for a few minutes before he sighed. I didn't expect Levi to have my back against the Commander, who's gaze came back to mine. He just shook his head before turning and walking away, leaving Levi staring at me intently. Once no one was in earshot, he stepped forward. "So did you let him escape or are you telling the truth."
"I promise you I am telling the truth." I watched him, guarded while he stepped to the fence of the stables and leaned against it, his eyes not leaving mine.
"But you know exactly who did, don't you." He was definitely perceptive. "And I'm willing to bet it's that new recruit that keeps making you so uncomfortable." I didn't waver my poker face as I continued to stare. "I can't keep helping you if you don't start getting honest with me." Nerves filled my stomach. What was I supposed to do? Do I tell him everything? Do I go as far to tell him my plans? These feelings were making me realize the old Alessa was losing grip and quickly. I sighed giving up. If anyone could help me, it probably would be Levi. He's just as perceptive, ruthless and cunning as I am. Having an ally couldn't hurt any worse…could it?
I moved next to him leaning against the fence. I needed to gather my bearings around him, otherwise I was going to completely lose myself. I looked over at him, studying him as he waited patiently for me to talk.
"I need time with this, Levi." He continued to wait for more information, "Greg is an affiliate of my father's." Levi cocked his eyebrow, now intrigued. "He is one of the most ruthless, psychopathic people I have ever met, and I need to play my cards right around him. My father wants me home, and the longer I am here, the longer I jeopardize not only myself, but every single person here. I'm stuck between the MP's wanting me to kill Eren and my family needing me to handle my other work." His eyes narrowed, pinning exactly what I meant by other work. "You literally make this so fucking hard for me though."
"What about this is hard? You need to fight back." I laughed now, taking him mildly by surprise.
"Levi, you don't fight back against the Evans family. What they don't get by bribery and money, they get by violence. We're notorious for it…my brother and I have done some horrific shit that would even make you sick. I need you to understand that what you're asking me to do would be nearly impossible." He turned fully towards me now, arms crossed over his chest.
"It's not impossible. But, if you fear for everyone here and you want to fight back, then you need to help all of us understand what it is we are fighting against. You won't be alone in this if you just allow yourself to trust us. Trust me." I sighed rubbing my temples.
"You realize Greg won't stop at breaking my hand to get what my father wants done right? Every second I fight back, things are only going to get worse."
"I'll protect you." I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not some damsel in distress."
"No you just get your hand broken and don't even fight back. That's not you. You've got help, so quit being difficult and let me fuckin help you." I took in his words, staring into his eyes. For that moment, I could see his feelings clear as day written on his face. I took a shaky breath, realizing my own, quickly looking away as to not admit it right then and there.
"Fine I'll trust you. I'll ask for your help. But the moment this goes awry, and it will, and people die, understand that I will tell you I told you so." His hand came up to my face, startling me.
"Then we just need to kill them before they can kill any of us." I couldn't stop the smile that broke across my face.
"That was like, the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me." He rolled his eyes as I laughed. "Maybe even the most romantic, I haven't decided." He just shook his head at me as I pretended to contemplate with my finger over my chin.
"So all we need now is a plan." I smiled up at him. "You're already forming one aren't you?"
"I've been trying, but since you want to help so bad, then I'll let you help." Out of the corner of my eye a figure caught my eye and I could see Greg at the end of he stables, making it apparent he was watching me. My voice got extra low as I stared into Levi's eyes. "Don't look now, but my fathers spy is doing just that. Not to mention my brother told him about us and he saw me go to your room last night. He caught me off guard after I tried going back to my room."
"And that's when he broke your hand." Levi nodded putting pieces together in his head.
"And almost suffocated me but that's a story for another day." I whispered waving off the look Levi shot me.
"Well since he's watching, might as well give him a show." Levi side stepped so he was now in front of me, pinning me to the fence with his body. I smirked deviously at my new partner in crime as he teasingly ran his hands up my sides. I pushed my hands up his chest, grabbing him by the shirt roughly and pulling him in for a kiss. If Greg was going to try and kill me over my indiscretions, let him try now that Levi was in on it. Our making out lasted longer than expected, both of us panting by the time we pulled away. I allowed myself to get lost in our moment I forgot about Greg briefly. I looked around, acting like I was making sure no one in the Corps saw, sighing in relief as the spot Greg was in was now empty. I really enjoyed poking the bear, but eventually he was going to bite, and when he does, it's going to be brutal.
Levi wasn't lying either when he said he'd protect me. I felt his eyes on me constantly throughout the day, even if he wasn't close by. There wasn't much that went on without him a small distance away. I couldn't help but giggle to myself. It was like having my own personal security guard. My mind needed to not focus on him though, I needed to think about my next course of action when it came to the Greg situation. No matter what I did, though, my eyes found their way to Levi and I couldn't help but get giddy. This was not a feeling I was used to in the slightest. This is just physical right? We're just friends who enjoy a little extra.
I couldn't shake the thought as I got distracted by him watching his soldiers intently. He stood straight, his grey eyes moving all over the courtyard with a rather bored look on his face, arms crossed over his chest. I was starting to really take him in. His looks, his personality…He was like a magnet I couldn't stop staring.
"If you keep staring at him, you're going to bore a hole in his head." Hange made me giggle at the comment.
"Shut the hell up, I'm not staring." She nudged me playfully.
"Right and I'm the Queen." I smirked breaking my gaze from Levi.
"You should really take a break, you don't want to push that hand too much." I looked down at my bandaged, broken hand and sighed. I was so distracted by Levi that I hadn't noticed the throbbing. Thanks Hange for reminding me of he pain, I internally sighed.
"Maybe I'll do that." I made my way over to the steps of the HQ staring out at the soldiers all working. Hange smiled, walking to her own soldiers and leaving me back to my thoughts. This place really was completely different than the MP's. Everyone was so relaxed, laughing in between training, working diligently, so soon after the deaths of their comrades. For the first time, I took a real good look at my surroundings and everyone in them. Levi's voice rang in my head, reminding me of what he had said. To fight back…am I fighting back for myself or everyone else here? Is this where I want to be from now on? No more torturing, no more killing, no more safety behind the walls…my chest gave me the all too familiar feeling I had been experience as of late. The answer was clear as day as I watched everyone around me, my eyes landing right back to him. This time, his eyes met mine, and for a faint moment, I felt safe.
