Chapter 10: Police in training
After what seems like almost months as well as doing the nation exam, Hannah was very excited to attend Metropolitan Police Academy to become a police officer. She is very passionate about protecting the innocent and she had a real talent of being in disguise. Upon entering the academy she was fascinated by all the technology that was in use, it was very high tech and she was eager to make new friends. The whole "bad girl" phase was left behind in her high school years, as she was looking to start fresh at the academy. Hannah saw many recruits huddled together in a circular motion and thought that's where she needed to be for orientation and a tour.
Among the recruits appeared to be a young Japanese male, that had a skinny but athletic type of body with short black hair. Hannah looks at this guy and thought he was cute but had some sort of an odd feeling something about him wasn't right. She does her best to not judge others before getting to know them but she does keep her distance. She notices that each recruit had a name tag, and so she goes up to the guy with the name tag "Shinji Kataoka". "Hi, you're Shinji? I was wondering if you could direct me to where I need to sign up for the tour" Hannah said approaching the guy.
Shinji looks at Hannah and stares at her beauty and noticed by her accent she appeared to be a foreigner, "Yes, I am Shinji. If you look over to your right, there are those tables. All you need to do is look for your last name, sign in and fill out the name tag to put on your shirt" Shinji said giving Hannah directions. Hannah looks to where Shinji was pointing then says "Thanks." as she walks over there Shinji gently grabs her wrist and says "No problem. Oh umm, I'm sorry to grab you like that but, I was curious though on what your name is miss" He said eager to know the woman well at least her name. "My name is Hannah. Hannah Covington. It's a pleasure to meet you Shinji" Hannah said with a smile. "Likewise Hannah." He said with a smile. As he gently let her go, she goes off to sign up for the tour and orientation.
Hannah goes to the table as instructed and filled out the sign-in sheet to make her name tag and was given a folder containing papers about the tour and orientation. She then goes back to the group and just in time, because the commissioner steps forward to greet the cadets and to begin the tour. The commissioner appeared to be tall and very handsome, the uniform he wore has various badges which is to be assumed that he has experienced many battles and won to earn beautiful badges. The Commissioner approaches the cadets and said "Hello, cadets. I'm Commissioner Ken Kawashima. I will be conducting the orientation and the tour today. This is my wife Lisa Kawashima she's my assistant. Her official title is Assistant Commissioner. Here at the academy, you will start the year learning everything there is to know about being a police officer. This will range from classes, training, exams, and skills used in the field. Now then we will begin the tour by showing you all the behind the scenes, which are your living quarters, where classes, exams, and training will be held and where to find Lisa and me should you have any further questions or concerns. If you will follow me please."
Commissioner Kawashima spoke with good intentions but also looked kind of stern-looking. His wife Lisa was stunning, with her black shoulder-length hair and having what seemed like the same badges as her husband. Hannah saw something that was a bit suspicious as they walked around the facility, she noticed that Shinji was very friendly with Ken and Lisa as if they know each other on a personal level. Hannah decides to just keep her thoughts to herself rather than point things out, for all she could know they could know each other through connections or on a personal level.
During the tour, the cadets are shown the classrooms as literally, everything was high tech all the computers, whiteboard and so on it was something that you'd see in the future. Hannah was so fascinated with this facility and saw how beautiful the living quarters were. As they continue to walk about the facility Ken went over the history and legacy of the place. Lisa also brings up how they are they are starting up a new team called "The Task Force", Lisa explains that The Task Force also known as TTF is responsible for dealing with gangs, international relations such as helping other states and countries should a criminal escape and seek refuge in another state or country, as well as dealing with mobsters. Lisa left out about dealing with people who acquire supernatural powers because she wanted to tell those who she can trust.
What others don't know is that Ken, Lisa, and Shinji are a lot older than they appear. Shinji was "recruited" because since he appeared to be 21 years old but he is 31 years old, however, Shinji was instructed to lie about his age and say he was 19 years old and recently graduated from a community college majoring in criminal justice. The reason for this is because Ken, Lisa, and Shinji were injected by a drug that grants them to live long and never age. However, for Shinji, he's dosage contained a rare serum that gives him powers beyond anyone's dreams. Shinji's powers are super strength, speed, the ability to see and talk to spirits, and the ability to control fire. Some people would classify this as a metahuman, a human that was given powers.
Shinji was tasked with recruiting people who could potentially be worthy to handle any mystical missions and he thinks Hannah could be someone that he's looking for. Hannah keeps her life on a need to know basis, not even her closest friends know that she has a skilled background in martial arts, extensive knowledge on guns which by the way she only told her friends and Haruten about only very little information on it. Not even her best friend Lily knows what Hannah is truly capable of. Hannah's father had her go through various training on many different weapons to have their only daughter to protect herself.
Once the orientation and tour were done. The cadets were sent to their living quarters to unpack and were allowed to roam around the facility. Hannah walks about the facility as she meets other recruits and tries to make friends. While this was going on Ken, Lisa and Shinji were having a private meeting and it was about Hannah. Ken's office lies a secret door that leads to a conference room that is used to discuss private matters in regards to their plans for the Task Force.
*In the conference room*
Lisa: I know it's only the first day but the cadets this year look promising
Ken: Indeed honey, but there's one that I think caught my attention during the tour and that's Shinji talking to that young girl *winks at Shinji*
Shinji: Sir, please. I just met her, you're assuming it's love at first sight. *slightly blushing*
Ken: Really now? For one, you're blushing. During the tour, I couldn't help but notice you were trying not to stare too much at her. What's her name.
Shinji: I-I'm not blushing. Her name is Hannah Covington. By the accent, she's from London. But she appears to be Japanese.
Lisa: You can't hide it from us Shinji. You are blushing. And that's a lovely name. I know her parents. We went to the same high school, we didn't talk much but I hear they are video game designers for a famous company.
Ken: Now then, to discuss the matter at hand. To see which cadets can be in the task force we need to conduct the serum test, the same one that you were given Shinji. I'll announce the cadets that each of them needs to take it. When we get the results we'll see which ones are eligible.
Shinji: Shouldn't we be cautious about it? We don't know how they will react to the possible side effects. And if they die that blood is on our hands.
Lisa: Shinji has a point, Ken.
Ken: Hmm...Then I suppose we will have medics on standby. Shinji I want you there to assist as well.
Shinji: Yes sir. Understood.
Lisa: Now then, go and mingle with the others and report back on who you think is eligible.
Shinji: Yes, Ma'am *Bows to Lisa and Ken and exits the office*
While the majority of the cadets were out in the courtyard talking to each other or studying, Hannah was exploring the grounds and ended up bumping into Shinji as the two talked Shinji offers to buy Hannah lunch and alcohol to get to her know more even though Hannah was underage she still had but she has a fake ID. They go to a local bar nearby since they were allowed to just do what they wanted since official training wasn't until the next day. As the two talked, to get to know each other better, they realized that they had a lot in common in music, anime, manga and wanting to do cosplay soon.
Shinji was so determined that Hannah was his soulmate, but for Hannah, she wanted to take it one step at a time. Shinji was so love-struck that he was determined to make Hannah his wife and have a family. During their conversation about anime, Shinji took a leap of faith and said to her, "Hannah, I know that we just met. But I feel like this could be love at first sight. I've never met a girl like you before. Would you please do me the honor of being my girlfriend." "I'm flattered that you feel that way. But I'm sorry I have a boyfriend," she said politely turning him down. He looks down sad that he dropped the gun and felt stupid about it but he knew that he has to take his time with love. "Honto ni gomenasai. (I'm really sorry) I shouldn't have assumed that you were single. I should've asked first. " he said "Don't worry about it. Why don't we just stay friends." She said with a smile. He looks at her with a half-smile and nods.
As Shinji and Hannah got to know each other aside from having a lot in common. He learns that Haruten can be aggressive, and he was known for getting into bar fights when he would get drunk but Hannah would step in to prevent him from getting kicked out. Shinji felt that the relationship that she has with him appeared to be unhealthy and toxic. But He knew he couldn't interfere without Hannah says so. Shinji was trying not to show it but he was disgusted over how what kind of man Haruten is and Hannah deserves better. "I know that you have a boyfriend but I was hoping we could be more than friends as in treat each other as siblings. That is if you want to" He asked. "Yeah, I would like that." She said with a smile.
After they hung out together the two went their separate ways back to their dorm rooms, Shinji was irritated over how Haruten seemed like a jerk and Hannah didn't deserve a guy like that. Shinji vowed to do whatever it took to prove to Hannah and he can be a better boyfriend for her than Haruten. Even though he hadn't met Haruten or know him personally, Shinji was still determined to make Hannah his one way or another. When Hannah got back to her room, she messaged old friends and Haruten to see what they were up to nowadays and wanted to see if they wanted to jam out with the band. Even though her uncle has a record label, they had on and off gigs but had yet to do an actual tour.
Because everyone was busy with various things they did their best to meet up for rehearsals and go over songs to do for each gig. Hannah would try to convince Haruten to make more time for the two of them but it always the same answer "we'll see" he would tell her. Hannah felt like the relationship was one-sided, even though he would buy and send gifts to her she wishes that they would spend time together. Haruten genuinely tries to spend time with Hannah, he would always try to get away from work to be with her. But he was hiding a secret that no one knew about not even her.
Later that night Shinji was in his room fantasizing over Hannah and the possible life the two would have together, but for Hannah, while being in her room she messages to see what her friends were up to and tried to video chat Haruten since that was their special way of spending time together when they couldn't be together physically. And it had seemed that the only time he was available was at night, sometimes it worked out but other times not so much. And Hannah told him that when she becomes an official police officer, it may get even more challenging for them to meet up and hang.
The next day all cadets met in the classrooms for their basic training lessons followed by hands-on training in the courtyard. In the classrooms, they learn how to read a person's rights, how to issue a ticket and so on. Other basic classroom training was included which were how to search and how to work in groups. When orientation was done, they were lead to the gym that was used for hands-on training. The gym was very high tech and had state of the art simulations for real-life scenarios. Hannah was very impressed and was very excited to be part of the police force. While she was working on her job on the side she still does singing with the band and tries to make it work. Even though she has her uncle to make them famous and all she and her friends wanted to do realistic types of jobs in case their dreams of being a band didn't work out.
During this time Haruten was working on becoming a video programmer but his side job was dealing with drugs, and when he knew that Hannah would be a police officer he thought he could trust her and smuggle in drugs. Renyachi, Chase, and Yuzugata worked for Haruten. Haruten does try his best to spend time with Hannah but given the side job, he does with drug trading he keeps his distance from her so that if anything happens she is protected. The relationship for them is pretty complicated because she doesn't know about the drug trading business and she sometimes thinks he's cheating on her.
So the only time he sees her is during band rehearsals and performances. Lily was working trying to be a translator as her goal is to go to South Korea and teach English as well as help tourists. She still participates in the band even gives singing lessons as a side job. Haruka and Xero were still playing music with them, Renaitoshi, and Shunimigata, as well as with Hannah, Haruten and Lily when they have the time. Tatsuma and Tsumiyogi are in jail for rape, multiple accounts of theft and carjacking to sell parts for money. Their participation in the band was voted to where they were kicked out because they didn't want their bad choices to affect the band and their reputation.
What will the future hold for their chances of being famous? Will Hannah see the true con artist Haruten really is. Read the next chapter to find out
