Virgil and the Fireflash's crew got to work on fixing her engines so that Thunderbird 2 could escort it back to London whilst the rest of the family checked on the passengers and Kayo who had landed the plane alone.
"Still feeling a little shaky Kayo?" Alan asked with a grin.
"No I'm alright, but I was serious about leaving me back there. I'm sure I could've ditched it in the desert."
"No way Kayo, I've seen planes try to do that and it's never gone the way they've planned," Scott shook his head. "Sand might stop sparks, but you couldn't have actually known you weren't going to blow up."
Kayo sighed, "maybe not, but I was out of ideas at that point."
"At least Virgil wasn't," Gordon smiled as he looked over to where Virgil was helping the co-pilot fix the undercarriage wheel system.
"I can't believe his plan worked, I guess I owe him now."
That evening everyone was taking it easy after Kayo's return party, the cake had been eaten and now people were happily drinking liquors and spirits. Virgil was playing the piano with a glass of scotch and Kayo walked round to the instrument.
"Hey," she smiled as he looked up at her.
"What's up?"
"Thank you for saving the plane and me today, I just panicked."
Virgil shook his head, "I didn't know what state the passengers were in, but what I did know was that you needed rescuing."
"I don't think I would be here if you hadn't."
"You're welcome, anytime," Virgil smiled at her again. "Not drinking?"
"No I am, I was down by the pool. I only just realised I hadn't thanked you for saving my life."
"No worries, it's my job."
Kayo leant on the lid, "how did you know that Thunderbird 2 could actually lift the Fireflash?"
Virgil stopped playing to take a sip of his scotch, "I didn't, I was just desperate to do something. It was a gamble."
"Well I'm glad you took it," she looked around behind her to the steps leading down to the kitchen. "Catch you later?"
"Yeah I might come down and join you guys actually," Virgil turned back to playing when Kayo suddenly wrapped her arms around him. "Oh."
"Thank you, big brother."
Virgil hugged her back, "you're welcome."
Scott smiled as Kayo walked back outside and joined him on the picnic bench, "you okay?"
"I am now, it's just been a really busy day."
"Did he hurt you?"
"Virgil?"
Scott laughed. "No, no. The Hood?"
"No, he didn't, but we had a good fight."
"You fought! Why Kayo?"
"He hijacked a plane Scott, I wasn't going to let him get away with that."
"But you shouldn't have taken that risk against him."
"He got away in the escape pod, there was no risk to be taken."
"That's not the point," Scott retorted. "You know how I feel about you taking risks?"
"I was fine, stop worrying."
Virgil walked out onto the patio, "if she says not to worry, then don't."
"I know, but it's the Hood, we don't know how dangerous he really is. I won't let him take down a Tracy."
Virgil nodded. "That won't happen, we won't let him."
Kayo smiled at him, "thank you Virgil, but you know I can handle myself. How annoyed is London airport at you about the Fireflash?"
"Not too annoyed, only a little bit. They're more impressed that we managed to fix it on a disused airfield," Virgil smirked. "Sometimes being an engineer has its benefits."
"Good work Virgil," Scott praised. "I just wish the Pods had worked, they were a great idea."
"They were just too light. With a lighter plane, I'm sure they would do the job successfully."
Kayo nodded, "they got a test run anyway, and the youngsters seem to be okay, so they're pretty sturdy."
"Thank Brains for that," Virgil ran a hand through his hair. "Let's hope we don't need the Fireflash again."
"No need, we all have our own jets," Kayo rested her chin in her hands. "I'd rather just not run into the Hood again," she added with slight remorse.
"I hope you don't either," Scott smiled at her in reassurance as Gordon came out with snacks.
