The brothers remained by the piano and were still there when Kayo returned from investigating the bridge the others had been attempting to save earlier that day. She smiled at them and walked over deciding to stand next to Scott much to his pleasure.

"Are you guys okay?"

"The GDF turning on us today was too much," John looked up at her from the holoprojector on the piano.

"Really?"

"New commander, except he was a fake, he tried to take Thunderbird 2 and arrest us," Virgil didn't look up from the keys.

"Why didn't you call me?" Kayo frowned looking up at Scott.

"We could handle it, we just didn't leave Thunderbird 2."

"She was damaged," Virgil pouted and his playing suddenly got angry.

"That's not my fault, you could've defended her sooner," Scott sighed.

Kayo shook her head, "I doubt it's anyone's fault. As Brains and I discovered, someone else made that bridge fall, and it was probably Janus or the Hood."

"The Hood?" Alan frowned.

"What makes you say that?" Scott asked.

"It had his characteristics; the want to cause destruction," Kayo shrugged, but inside, the want to spill her secret was killing her.

"At least Penelope got Casey cleared," John smiled. "You couldn't have sat in Thunderbird 2 forever."

"I would have taken off," Virgil stopped playing. "Our job was to rescue those workers, I would've been happy in jail as long as they got to safety."

Kayo smiled, "leaving me to bail you guys out by acting like a friend or lawyer then?"

Scott laughed, "I could see you doing that."

"I would, there's no way I would let them keep you in jail."

"Well, we're not in jail guys so don't worry." Gordon smiled, "and that city will be fine."

"Being held up with foam?" Scott asked. "How does that stuff actually work?"

"They'll fill that hole in with reinforced concrete, the foam is just acting as a base," Virgil said pointedly. "You can't build foundations on that stuff, but it will stop the scaffolding above from caving in."

"I see, so it's like wall filler?"

"Exactly."

Alan laughed, "honestly Scott, I thought you'd know more about our equipment by now?"

"Very funny."

The family gradually went up to their rooms, and Kayo made herself a hot chocolate in the kitchen. As the milk boiled, she danced listening to music from her headphones, and Scott caught a glimpse of her. He leaned by the wall smirking at the girl who was creating her own show as she darted between the stove and the tabletop, she spun around and skidded on the floor as she spotted him.

"Whoa!"

Scott ran forward as she slipped and caught her one-handed, "glad I caught you."

"It was your fault, why were you watching me?"

"Because I didn't want to disturb you."

Kayo gave in with a smile and let him twirl her round to face the stove again to finish her chocolate preparation, "did you indeed?"

Scott leaned back against the table, "we haven't seen you in days Kayo, what have you been doing?"

Kayo poured the boiling milk into a mug and added the chocolate, "today or generally?"

"Generally."

"I'm looking for the Hood. If I can find him, I can find out what happened to Jeff. I'm doing this for you guys. Rescues are fun but covert operations are more exciting."

"But it's dangerous," Scott frowned. "You're all alone on those missions."

"What would happen to me? Shadow has a stealth mode, I'd be okay."

"I don't mean Shadow, I mean you as a person, you're only human."

Kayo smiled, "you guys were in more danger than me today. I wish you had called."

"Me? Usually, it's the other way around."

"I could've helped. I mean what if Janus had blown up Thunderbird 2?"

"He didn't seem to want to do that."

"I'm just talking scenarios, Scott. You weren't to know, and I would have arrived home to find out that you guys were injured, or worse."

"I'm never going to put you in that position Kayo," Scott smiled warmly at her. "My first duty is to you guys, I promised my dad I would keep my family safe."

"Yeah so did I, and look where that's ended up?" Kayo sighed, she hated talking about her dad.

Scott nodded not needing to press her for answers, "I know," he decided to change the subject. "What were you listening to?"

"Old classics, the stuff before we were born," Kayo laughed. "I don't like the modern music of today, it's so electronic and no one sings anymore," she sipped her chocolate. "I'm just glad you didn't walk in on me singing."

"I've heard you sing, you're good."

"Ha! I'm not as good as Virgil."

"Kayo, it's hard to compare your voice against a man's," he chuckled. "And I've heard you sing with my brother."

"When I was little."

"No, more recently than that. You sang carols with him at Christmas."

"Oh yeah, but I was drunk," Kayo recoiled again.

"Whatever, but you did sound good," Scott answered nonchalantly. "I wish I could sing as well as Virgil does."

"There's always time to practise, you can play the piano as well as he does."

Scott chuckled as they moved to sit out on the swing chair, "he's a professional, I'm an amateur."

Kayo curled up against him as the night air chilled her and Scott felt his heart flutter, "that's not true. Regarding today, were you worried about failing the mission?"

"Yes. Of course I was. If Janus had grounded us for good, those workers would've fallen to their deaths. I can't even imagine how awful that would have been," Scott shook his head. "At least it didn't happen." He hesitantly put his arm around her but she didn't move, "you're not usually up this late?"

"I couldn't sleep, it's too hot in my room for a start, and well I knew someone would come down and join me."

"Me?"

Kayo shrugged, "whoever really. Want some?" She offered him the drink and he took it.

"Thanks," he sipped it with a smile then gave it back. "I usually can't sleep because I'm worried about my brothers, and I think Virgil is really upset about the damage to Thunderbird 2."

"I'm not surprised, it's his baby," Kayo laughed.

"The thing is, he treats it like it is."

"I know. Then again, I'm the same with Shadow, she's special to me," she wrapped her hands around the mug with a shiver.

"Cold?"

"A little," Kayo looked at his arm around her shoulder and smiled. "I think I'll go to bed. Don't worry about today, I have a feeling we won't be seeing Janus again."

"What makes you so sure?" Scott stood up and offered his hand out to help her to her feet.

"I just am," she walked back to the kitchen holding his hand and put the mug down. "See you in the morning."

"Sleep well."

Kayo walked up to her room feeling warm and fuzzy from the chocolate and what had just happened with Scott. They had held hands and snuggled up together. Was she attracted to him, or was he attracted to her? Part of her wished it, she couldn't just ask him, they had been living on the island together for years and it would be weird to suddenly have a crush on him. Although, this was also a man whom she knew so well, someone who would never hurt her and would protect her from anything, not only on missions but at home too. These thoughts made her laugh but she wasn't the only one having them, Scott wrote down a note in his journal.

"I really like her, but how can I ask someone who has been living with us like a sister? She's going to reject me I can just tell, or tell me she's in love with one of my brothers. Okay, the next time I see her, I'm going to ask her."
