Everyone was exhausted after the ordeal. Six separate missions all for nothing, and now the Hood had been arrested on their own island, not to mention someone among them being related to the said criminal. All eyes were on Kayo when they got back from one big mission they were called out to and she was tearful, something she never was in front of them.

"I wish I had told you sooner, but it's not an easy thing to admit especially to those you love," she looked over at Scott.

Virgil sighed. "We all have secrets, but I don't think that one was one you should've kept to yourself. Have you found any leads on our dad through your uncle?"

"Please don't call him that, and no I haven't. All those times I have met him face to face I've been trying to stop him from committing crimes, he never told me anything regarding your dad. Only boasted about causing his demise," Kayo added, unhappily.

Scott nodded. "He's in jail now, and that's the important thing."

"For now," Kayo muttered. "I don't think jail will hold him for long, for all we know he was working on something before this. I didn't know he would find the island, but I guessed he would at some point."

"Did he put a tracker on you?" Alan asked.

"Don't be ridiculous, we would've found it," Scott rolled his eyes. "He has all those disguises, maybe someone told him where the island was."

John nodded. "Yeah and now the GDF know the island's location."

"There was nothing I could do about that John. I wasn't going to let Kayo battle him alone," Scott snapped. "Show some sympathy."

Grandma shook her head, "now that's enough, I won't have you all arguing with each other. The Hood is gone. I'm sorry Kayo kept it from you, but your father and I decided it would keep you safe by not knowing and prevent it from getting in the way of everyday life."

Kayo sat down beside Scott as Virgil walked up to the piano, "I wish I had told you guys earlier, I knew it would be consequential not telling you."

Scott wrapped his arm around her waist, "it doesn't matter now, as long as you're safe."

"I wouldn't say I'm safe, not completely."

"You are with me," Scott kissed her forehead and Alan made a face.

"Get a room."

Scott threw a pillow at him without even looking and heard it hit him in the face, "you earned that."

John glared down at the couple unnoticed by everyone except Virgil, "I'll keep an eye on things regarding the Hood's prison. Sleep well, guys."

Virgil frowned but continued to play, "FAB John." He would call his brother about that.

Nightime closed in, and Scott reckoned only he and Kayo were awake as the house felt oddly quiet which was unusual considering what had happened that day. He reclined back on his bed threading Kayo's hair between his fingers as she rested her head on his chest.

"Are you okay?"

Kayo sighed. "I'm sorry. I guess you know why my uncle saved me instead of those tankers now huh?"

"He's evil, but it shows he still cares a little for you."

"I haven't shown you the photo," she sat up and went to get her phone off the desk, she crawled back across the bed as Scott sat up. "This was when I graduated from secondary school, he came to my ceremony. That was before he became a criminal and drove my father away," the holo-image of her next to her uncle shone in the dark bedroom lit up only by fairy lights Kayo had put up when she moved into his room.

"Wow, how old were you?"

"That's not really the focus of the photo, but I was thirteen, this was before I was living with you guys but we knew each other regardless."

Scott smiled at her sympathetically, "come here, sweetheart."

Kayo curled up against him as she continued to look at the photo, "he was so different back then, and now it's like he's a completely new person. He's always had a sinister charm, but he was genuinely on the good side of the law then."

Scott rubbed circles across her arm gently, "you look really happy."

"I was," Kayo closed the image down plunging the room into a warm glow of the lights and the dimmer lamp. "I can't believe I'm related to him, he's just..." A lump closed her throat and she found herself sobbing. "I'm sorry."

Scott cuddled her close and rocked her in his arms hushing her softly, "it's okay. We're your family now, Tanusha, and we'll never stop being your family," he sighed and kissed her hand on his arm.

Kayo buried her face into his chest, "but I have two families. My dad is still there for me, but he's sworn to not appear until the Hood is gone. I feel like I don't have anyone."

Scott felt tears splash onto his stomach and stroked Kayo's hair, "shh. It's never going to be easy, but I'm here for you, and you have all of us."

"Thanks. This is why I knew you were the one I loved," she whispered.

Scott smiled. "I love you too."

Unknown to anyone was that Virgil wasn't in his room, he had gone up to the roundhouse to call John and the two were in a heated argument, the second eldest had already thrown a pencil through his brother's hologram much to the astronaut's disgust.

"You should've said something you idiot, are you now just going to glare at them whenever you call in?"

"Don't call me an idiot, Virgil."

"Well you're certainly acting like one," Virgil paced the room. "She asked if any of us had a problem with them being together, and you kept your mouth shut. I'm not sympathising with you."

"There was never an appropriate time. The time I wanted to tell her how I felt about her, you were bloody embracing her in the gym!"

"Embracing? What on Earth?" Virgil stopped and looked up at him in surprise.

"I saw you when I called in."

"We weren't embracing. She had just thrown me to the floor, and we hugged to make up. That's very different. I don't love Kayo. I love her as a brother, but nothing more than that. You clearly like her more."

"Yes maybe I do, and now it's too late."

Virgil crossed his arms, "I'm not going to tell Scott, but I advise that you do before it gets too late and things get awkward."

John sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm just depressed."

"Whatever you choose, just don't make it hard for them, they're still our family."

John nodded. "I know, and I'll talk to them I promise."

"Good. Now I'm off to bed, I suggest you do the same," Virgil said bluntly and his brother hung up. "What a mess." He looked at the time which read 2 am, but feeling too stressed he went round to his studio in the roundhouse to wind down after the argument, he played his keyboard loudly knowing that no one could hear him and wondered what to do about John and Kayo. He knew she didn't have the same feelings for his brother or she would've said. No, she was definitely in love with Scott and appeared to have been for a long time but hid it from him for her own reasons.
