The End of his Tale

Eugene and Max reach the tower, where Eugene jumps from Max's back and runs to the base.

Eugene whistled.

"Gotta say," he turned to Max, "that was pretty fast."

Maximus looked proud of himself.

Eugene: Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Let down your hair!

There was no answer, so Eugene attempts to climb the tower himself when the window opens and Rapunzel's long hair falls from the tower. He climbs it. Eugene reaches the window and climbs through.

"Well, that is not a good sign" said Eugene. Rapunzel looked at him.

"Why?" Rapunzel asked. Then she realised. "I was leaving. Why would I still be there unless something bad happened?" Arianna wrapped an arm around herself, trying to hold it together. Frederick held his wife, trying to keep himself together.

Eugene: Rapunzel, I thought I'd never see you again. Huh?

Across from where he stood, Rapunzel was tied and gagged, screaming against the gag and pulling at her chains to get to him.

Gothel stabs Eugene.

Gothel laughs behind her gag. Eugene grabs his side as though he had been stabbed in real life. Max and Pascal share frightened looks. Frederick's grip on his wife's shoulder got a bit tighter. Rapunzel nearly screamed.

Eugene grabs his stomach and falls to the ground, Gothel holds up the knife, triumphed.

"I hate you" Rapunzel finally said. Everyone looked to see her glaring at Gothel. Even Gothel was shocked, Rapunzel didn't have the heart to hate anyone.

Gothel: Now look what you've done, Rapunzel. Oh, don't worry dear. Our secret will die with him.

She steps over his body and makes her way to Rapunzel, grabbing the chains and beginning to pull her to the hidden entrance. Rapunzel struggles the entire time.

Gothel: And as for us! We are going where no one would ever find you again!

Pascal runs out of his hiding place and begins to bite at Gothel's dress. She kicks him away.

Rapunzel grabbed Pascal and held him close to her. He patted her hand, reassuring her that he was okay.

Gothel: Rapunzel, really! Enough already! Stop fighting me!

In the struggling, Rapunzel manages to dislodge the gag.

Rapunzel: No! I won't stop! For every minute of the rest of my life I will fight! I will not stop trying to get away from you! But, if you let me save him, I will go with you.

Arianna sobbed while Frederick had tears slowly coming down his face. Their happily ever after looked like it was never going to happen. Even if their precious daughter were able to save the man they found themselves growing fond off, they would lose their daughter. Either way, they lose either the thief or their daughter.

Eugene: No! No, Rapunzel!

Pascal wakes up and he looks visibly upset as he stares at Rapunzel.

Rapunzel: I'll never run, I'll never try to escape. Just let me heal him, and you and I will be together. Forever, just like you want. Everything will be the way it was, I promise. Just like you want. Just let me heal him.

Gothel has agreed as she chains Eugene to a column.

Eugene: In case you get any ideas about following us.

Rapunzel runs to him.

Rapunzel: E-Eugene.

Eugene coughs, clearly in a lot of pain.

Rapunzel: Oh, I'm so sorry. Everything in gonna be okay.

"Not" said Eugene, "not if you don't have your freedom."

Eugene: No, Rapunzel ...

Rapunzel: I promise you. You have to trust me ...

Eugene: No...

Rapunzel: Come on. Just breathe...

Eugene: I can't let you do this.

Rapunzel: But I can't let you die.

Eugene: (coughs) But if you do this... then you ...

Rapunzel: Shh, shh.

Eugene: ... will die.

Rapunzel: Hey. It's gonna be all right.

Eugene forces a smile. Rapunzel prepares to sing the incantation.

Eugene: Rapunzel, wait...

Eugene presses a hand against Rapunzel face, and approaches her as if to kiss her.

Instead, he slices through her hair with a piece of the broken mirror.

"No!" Rapunzel screamed while Gothel screamed behind her gag, shock at the actions the horrible man took. Eugene smirked, proud of his future self and the character development he would eventually go into. And as the story started: This is the story of how I died.

Rapunzel: Eugene.

She grabs her hair as it turns to brown, Gothel screams and Eugene goes limp.

Rapunzel started crying into Eugene's shirt. Arianna and Frederick could barely breathe. It looked like they were going to get their daughter back, but she would never be whole as the man who she had fallen in love with would die.
