I wanted to expand on this story. I only own the incredible hulk series on DVD, nothing else.
24 hours, and he'd already wasted half of one banging his head on the wall. Jack ignores the self inflicted pain as an idea forms in his brain. He dashes back to his apartment and sorts through all of his hulk sightings. Narrowing down til only confirmed sightings remained. From that and his personal experience with John Doe he calculates where to find him. He calls up local businesses to see if there was a David B that works low key jobs after arriving less than three weeks ago. He gets a hit in a small town in Nebraska. Jack goes to work, collecting information on twenty scientists. Piling the papers into a folder, he then drove to the little town. He asks around town to find Banner's house. He picks the lock and waits inside.
Banner arrived back four hours later. He puts his coat in the closet and notices the smell of fresh coffee. Senses on high alert he walks carefully into the living room. A familiar figure stood at the window, holding a mask. "nice neighborhood." Jack says.
"how did you find me? I haven't hulked out yet."
"I took an illegal brain boosting drug. Turns out I could figure it all along." he smirks, "it took me thirty seconds to realize that I'm an idiot."
"okay... where did you get the mask?" Banner asks.
"I made it half an hour ago. I've always had a weird fascination with them. Everyone wears one everyday, most aren't aware though." he puts it down and sits on the couch, "The drug only lasts 24 hours and I've used ten so far. Here," he picks up the folder, "it has all the information on twenty scientists that have experience in the fields you've been researching. I hope you don't mind but I wrote a manuscript for our book."
"wait, our book?"
"at first my desire was to write a Pulitzer prize winning article that would get me into the bigger papers.
Then I wanted to know the truth. Today I realized that I've been going about this the wrong way. I figured out that I could make more money if I wrote a book on our currant situation. You write your half of the story, we sell the book, you fund your research, I acquit you of murder, then maybe we can be friends after this."
Banner tries to wrap his head around everything. "that...makes sense actually. How are you going to prove my innocence?"
"I wrote a plan for myself because I'm not going to remember most of this." he pats a short stack of papers.
"Jack, what are the side effects for this drug?"
"I'm most likely to throw up in the morning and it only becomes addicting after the second one." he pulls out a baggie with a clear pill. "You're going to need it." he stands up to leave and hands him a slip of paper, "my address, you can send the book to me when you're done. I can have it published and we can work out a payment plan."
Banner watches him scoop up his stack and walk out the door. He calls after him, "where are you going?"
"I've done all I can here. I'm going to make amends with my dad. See you later David." he steps into his car and drives off.
Banner stands in the doorway, wondering what just happened.
Two months later Megee is sentenced to 16 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter. The book flies off the shelves with his boss' daughter managing the money with weekly checks sent to Banner's research and development company. When Jack got out waiting at the gates for him stood Banner. "hi Jack. Are you glad to be free again?"
Jack smiles weakly at him, "yeah, I guess."
Banner pats him on the back and unlocks the doors of the car. They get in and Banner starts the car, "home, Jack?"
"home."
they drive to Megee's apartment and Banner parks in front, "what are you going to do now?"
Jack sighs, "I don't know. Can we start with being friends?"
"okay Jack."
"thanks... David." he gives a relaxed smile and steps out of the vehicle. He watches Banner drive away then heads inside, unsure of where the future leads.
I wasn't sure of how to end this but I think I did a good job. Please review.
