This couldn't be happening. How could this happen? These were the thoughts passing through the minds of everyone. Everyone at SciLab was speechless. They were not expecting an attack like this.
Net City was burning and every second that passed by felt like an eternity. It had been only half an hour since Bass-Cross started his rampage. This was unlike him to attack at random. As far as they knew he had no target. So it didn't make any sense for him to be out in the open like this.
"What's our course of action?" Chaud said, finally breaking the silence. He was met with silence.
Understanding that there was no plan he decided to drop the subject and focused on getting as many navies away from Net City. The attack had caused connection issues between navies and there PET. They could not log out immediately, luckily for them, connections to other parts of the web were still open. So all they had to do was leave Net City and log out somewhere else.
Sounds easy? Add a rampaging navi that can obliterate you with his weakest attack. Not sounding like a walk in the park now? Most navies found out the hard way. For the surviving navies, they hid away where they hoped that it would end soon.
One blast after the other, they heard them coming closer. It was a matter of time before it would hit them next. They never thought that they would feel fear like this. A blast came up next to them. They waited for the next one to hit.
But nothing happened.
Earlier
Lan and Soul were having a relaxing break. Lan was laying down on a beach chair on the balcony of his house. Soul was sitting on his right shoulder enjoying the blue sky. They had been testing Soul's power on different kinds of enemies. However, they still had trouble achieving full-Syncro. If they could unlock this too they would be able to take out Bass-Cross easily.
Speaking of Bass-Cross, they hadn't heard anything new about him. Lan wondered if Chaud was holding more info from him. Megaman was still in there. He felt like he should have a right to know everything.
"So, what does full-synchro feel like anyway?" asked the Navi.
Lan turned his head to face her. "Well… it feels weird at first." He said trying to remember how it felt. "We can basically feel each other's emotion and read one another's thoughts."
"Oh, so like cross-fusion?" She said comparing the two. If they could already do that, then why were they having trouble doing this?
"It might have to do with the situation we were in. Plus the syncro-chip helps increases our bond." He added. At the time of the fusion, they were both scared and desperate to stay alive. Perhaps they need to be in a situation where they both had the exact same feelings. Just being happy with each other was not enough. Deep inside they were still strangers to each other.
"So do we throw ourselves in dangerous situations?"
"Um, no, not at all." He said shooting that suggestion down. He tried that with Megaman before in the past and it accomplished nothing. He got an earful from everyone instead.
"We need to make sure our goal is the same." Lan began to list off the basics. "We have to agree on what we do, if not then we fall out of sync."
"We've been doing that," Soul said puffing her cheeks, " and it hasn't happened."
"Then we have to find a different way. Obviously using the same method with Megaman is not going to work," he said in defeat.
Suddenly he received an incoming call. He quickly answered it and was greeted by his father.
"Lan we need you here, in Scilabs, now!"
"What's happening?"
"I'll tell you everything when you get here, but it involves Bass-Cross."
The call ended and Lan got up and many his way to Scilabs as fast as he could."
The doors to his father's lab opened to reveal Lan out of breath. He saw that almost everyone was there. This included His father, Mr. Famous, Maylu, Jasmine, Dex, and Chaud.
"What's happening?" Lan said in between breaths.
"Bass-Cross is attacking Net City and is attacking everyone. Protoman and the rest are trying to save as many navies as they can while staying clear of him." Maylu was the one to answer his question.
On the screen, it showed what was becoming of the virtual city.
"Why can't we just shut down Net City?" He asked. If they shut down the servers they could trap him.
"One, we would also be trapping hundreds of navies too and two, he would know and escape." Dr. Hikari dismissed the idea. They had him now in one place and didn't seem to be going anywhere soon. The last thing they needed was for Bass-Cross to jump into the real world.
"Okay then, jack in Sou-," Lan was stopped by Chuad who grabbed his arm.
"It's too risky to send her."
"What? Why?" Lan said in disbelief.
"Bass-Cross isn't acting like himself. But that doesn't mean that he isn't using all his abilities. If he absorbs her, it's over." Chaud explained. Bass-Cross still had the ability to absorb data to add to his own power. If he got to Soul, then there would be no stopping him.
"So what do you need me for then?" He asked. If they didn't need him for battle, then what for?
"We are planning to subdue him long enough for you to get through to Megaman." Mr. Famous explained.
"How?" He asked.
"Since Bass-Cross enjoys to hover in the air. We are going to stun him with four paralyzing blasts from different directions." Chaud explained.
These new blasts were just developed. They had their fingers crossed that it would work. As the plan was just made moments ago.
Back in Net City
Protoman and Searchman were trying to find different vantage points. If they could lure him near these they could potentially subdue him long enough to talk some sense back into him.
Protoman was running and dashing across the streets of the once beautiful City. Hiding behind large chunks of rubble. He would be lying if he said he wasn't scared right now. He felt terrified. He had never felt this way before. He wasn't aware that navies could feel emotions by default. They were just data, lines of code that had independence, perhaps too much.
He looked over the chunk of rubble he was hiding behind. The coast looked clear. He moved and started to look up. Looking for a vantage point was a lot harder to do then he thought. He was already familiar with the city, but all the damage around him changed that. He had no idea where he was exactly.
Suddenly he was knocked off his feet and was thrown across the street. Had no time to recover as he was immediately stuck again. This time landing on his back. He looked up to see the one thing he was trying to avoid. Bass-Cross hovering right above him.
"I needed your attention, but this is too soon!" Protoman grunted.
"Area steal," Chaud said putting in a battle-chip. Protoman quickly vanished from sight.
However, this did not faze Bass-Cross a bit as he just turned around to see Protoman running away towards a building.
Protoman knew that he had only a few seconds to get some cover. He looked up to see a tower not yet destroyed.
"That will do. Searchman, do you have a position?" Protoman called.
"Affirmative."
"Good, I need some assistance to secure mine."
He heard the sound of a shot from behind him and hoped that it was not coming for him. He was relieved ever so slightly when it made contact with the navi above him.
He moved as fast as his abilities allowed him to. It was fortunate for this tower to still be up. This tower was his best chance now. He needed Bass-Cross to be distracted long enough for him to reach the top. He was suddenly knocked down to his knees. The rest of the tower was completely blown away from a blast. He looked out to see Bass-Cross with his arm completely stretched out.
"High enough I guess." He was just high enough for this to work. "Searchman, now!"
Four different shots coming from different directions struck Bass-Cross. He didn't move as yellow sparks surrounded him.
"Okay. Now, Lan, you know what to do." Protoman said.
"Right," Lan said through their intercom.
But before Lan could say anything the sparks sounding Bass-Cross stopped. He broke free and was none too pleased. He raised his arm preparing for another attack aimed right at Protoman.
"Well, I had a good run," Protoman said smiling, accepting his fate.
Lan was heard from the other side of his intercom.
"Jack in, Soul, Power up!"
