"Doctor Allen I presume?" Peter says wryly allowing the smaller man's body he'd used to break the door open with to fall to the floor. "You didn't have to kill him. He's not a hunter." The doctor says with a shake of his head. Peter shrugs stepping further into the room. "He was between me and you with a weapon. Fatal mistake. Much like torturing a member of my pack and thinking there would be no consequences." "Quite the contrary." Dr. Allen says. "I knew this day would come." When the man looks stoically at Peter the enforcer hesitates. He sweeps the room with his senses searching for traps. He can hear the thundering of his prey's heart. A sharp contrast to the mask of calm the doctor displays. Peter moves forward. "Wait!" The doctor says his veneer of calm cracking slightly. "Don't you want to know why?" "Not particularly." Peter says pulling a gun from his coat. At the doctors confused expression Peter explains. "This isn't a retribution killing by an enraged pack. This is a hit by a rival family." Peter pulls the trigger shooting the doctor in the throat. The doctor staggers back his final scream dying in a breathy gurgle. "I had planned on making your death last." Peter says as gives the man a shove sending him to the floor. "However, mis direction and the ensuing confusion will be most helpful for phase two. As it is though it's been a long hunt, a sufficient number have fallen, and I wish to return to my pack." The man tries to speak as he rapidly bleeds out. "Before you go." Peter says pocketing his weapon and casually looking around before fixing the man with a steely hate filled glare. "I want you to know that I'll be using your research, your records….everything really. I'll be paying your colleagues and students a visit. Each and every one of them will fall." Dr. Allen tries to say something but ends up gasping weekly. "We won't be sitting around waiting for you to come for us anymore. This project of yours has shown us hunters are far too dangerous to leave alive." Peter tilts his head to the side looking at the doctor's glassy eyes. He snaps his fingers directly in front of the man's face a couple times shrugging when it becomes apparent the doctor has passed.
Stepping over to the doctor's desk Peter shakes his head when he sees the computer unlocked and logged in. He removes a small USB device from his pocket and connects it to the computer. Pulling his cell phone out he picks a number from the history and calls it. "It's connected see what you can do." Seconds later the device lights up and the mouse begins to move around on the screen clicking open folders. "Grab everything we'll go through it later I have a flight to catch." Peter says slipping on a pair of gloves before searching through the drawers and cabinets in the room. "Sorry." Danny says. Instead of looking through folders he goes to the root of the computer's hard drive and begins a bulk copy. "There is quite a bit here this will take a while." Danny says. Peter opens a door and sighs deeply. "Indeed." He says with annoyance looking at the large stack of file boxes. "What's wrong?" Danny asks. "It appears our good doctor has a fondness for paper documents." "Do you have a method of transport?" Danny asks. "Van in the garage downstairs." Peter says loading the boxes on to a large cart. "I'll let the pilot know to stand by. Are…..we're not talking hundreds of boxes right? It'll fit on the plane?" "It'll fit. Let him know the weight will be equal to about 6-7 passengers. I'll need an extra hour." "Understood, sorry I can't help." "Don't forget to leave the bread crumbs." Peter says shoving the laden cart towards the door. "Already planted a few subtle things hinting the Robards family did this." "Very good." Peter says ending the call and pocketing his phone before shoving the cart out of the office.
Paul's whimpering wakes both Kyle and Isaac. "No." Paul says struggling against an unknown aggressor. "Paul." Kyle says trying to calm his mate. "Baby wake up." Isaac says trying to hold Paul still. "No!" Paul shouts. Eyes snapping open he lashes out. Isaac takes an elbow to the throat. Kyle's head snaps back when Paul's fist connects firmly with his nose. With speed and power that stuns both wolves Paul flips out of bed landing on the floor and races towards the balcony. Downstairs Stiles, Scott and Derek are making breakfast when they both wince as Paul's panic fires across the pack bond. The three turn to race upstairs. Scott pauses when he hears Paul's hammering heart outside guessing his intent he bolts out the back door. Looking up he catches sight of Paul as he without even a moment's hesitation jumps over the railing. Scott jumps up and catches Paul mid air the two hitting the ground and rolling. "Scott?" Paul asks fearfully. "Hey buddy." Scott says with a warm smile. "Decided to take a early morning walk?" He says squeezing Paul gently. "How did I get down here?" Paul asks sitting up with Scott. Who quickly runs his hands over the smaller man checking for injuries. "Hurt?" Scott asks giving Paul's shoulder a tender squeeze. "No I'm fine." Isaac, Kyle, Derek and Stiles leap from the balcony drawing Paul's attention from Scott's concerned eyes. "What's going on?" Paul says getting to his feet with Scott's help. "You had a nightmare." Kyle says as he and Isaac rush to his side. Scott steps back allowing them access a blank expression on his face. "It was one of the times I tried to escape." Paul says as Kyle and Isaac feel him over for broken bones or cuts.
"Did you jump out the window there too?" Stiles asks. "No, over a railing it was before I was handed over to the family. The bounty hunters who had captured me." Paul says. "You don't have to talk about it." Derek says. Paul had been open with some aspects of his captivity but others such as his time with the bounty hunters had been something he'd never gone in to any detail about. "Most of the initial team that grabbed me were brought in only for the initial snatch." Paul says walking over and sitting in one of the outdoor chairs. Isaac stands next to Paul with a comforting hand on his shoulder while Kyle kneels next to Paul in the grass holding one of his hands. There were three men who had me after that. Two brothers and the leader. They left me with the younger brother in a motel." Paul pauses causing the pack to gather a little closer around him. "I knew I was going to be handed over for some kind of experiments. I was for the most part ignored. I tried to antagonize them hoping I could get some details. That typically just resulted in…." Paul shrugs. Isaac and Kyle both growl as Paul's replaying of the events in his mind also broadcasts over the mate bond. At their furious response the images of his beatings vanish. "I'm sorry." He says squeezing Kyle's hand and reaching up for Isaac's.
"They referred to me as 'lab rat' several times so I had an idea what was going to happen to me." Paul says looking up at Stiles and Derek he continues. They left me alone with the younger one. I'd pegged him as the weak link almost immediately. He was in his late teens maybe early twenties. I had loosened my bonds enough. Once several minutes had passed I attacked him. He….." Paul nods his head. "Was tougher than I thought. I couldn't get him to stay down….I...I'd knock him down he'd get back up. Finally he….got his hands on a knife." Isaac closes his eyes squeezing Paul's hand tightly. He knows what happens next. He'd taught the move to Paul, hoped he'd never have to use it. Never wanted his sweet innocent mate to be forced to take another life. "It was taking too long they could be back any second." Paul's eyes drop as he rambles, voice cracking as he starts to shake. "I was getting weaker….I...I.. knew he was one lucky shot away from taking me down. So I…." He looks back up at Stiles and Derek who both crouch down in front him placing their hands on his legs offering comfort. "After that I ran but it was too late. His brother caught me. The other one was running…...was almost right on top of me. I jumped. I tried to angle it so I could swing down to the lower floor but a couple of my fingers were broken and I slipped. We were on the 4th floor thankfully I landed on top of their van."
Kyle stands and takes several steps away body rigid with anger. Paul crumples. "He's not mad at you." Isaac quickly says. Kyle whirls around yellow furious eyes fading away. "No!" He exclaims returning to Paul's side in a flash. "I'm not angry at you." He says kneeling again. He reaches with one hand turning Paul's shame filled eyes towards his own. With his free hand he takes Paul's hand. "Use the bond. Do you feel anything negative about you at all?" Paul shakes his head. "Sorry." He says weakly. "Don't be sorry. You've done nothing wrong. I'm glad you're finally sharing this with us." "It was these two wasn't it." Kyle asks softly stroking the last two fingers on Paul's right hand. The pinky not quite as straight as the others. "Yes. At first I was treated pretty well at the lab. They gave me pain killers and set both of them. This one was never quite right. They said too much time had passed." Paul says stroking the little finger. Kyle leans and kisses both fingers saying nothing before laying his head on Paul's lap. Paul cards his fingers through his ginger wolf's hair.
"It's all behind me now." Paul says softly leaning against Isaac when he puts his and on his shoulder. After a few quiet moments Paul clears his throat. "Hey. Since I woke everyone up, why don't I make breakfast?" As if on queue Kyle stomach growls. The group all stands and walks slowly inside. Scott, Derek and Stiles giving Paul brief touches while Kyle and Isaac take either hand flanking their mate.
