Chapter 3

Harry POV

Harry POV

Harry looked up as the compartment door opened, hoping it was one of his friends. It wasn't. It was a girl "Alexina! Hi! Do you want to sit here?" I mentally facepalmed at my eagerness. For her part, she just looked amused. She nodded and walked in. "Hey Harry, how've you been?" "Good, can you believe we're off to Hogwarts already! I'm so excited!" she laughed. "Yeah I know, this is so surreal."

They sat together with a comfortable silence listening to the other children boarding the train, yelling excitedly at their friends and their parents. Owls were squawking indignantly and Harry picked out the sounds of more than one annoyed sounding cat. He had already said goodbye to his own mom and dad, yesterday to his mom who was a teacher at Hogwarts and had to be there early. His dad, godfather Sirius, and uncle Remus had come to drop him off at the station with his younger sister Roe accompanying them to say goodbye. Roe was 9 and would start Hogwarts when he was in his third year. His dad had given him his invisibility cloak and the marauders map, which his dad and uncles had made while they were in school. They wouldn't tell him what it did, but told him the activation phrase and told him to try it in his dorm at Hogwarts.

The compartment door opening shook him out of his thoughts. "Hey, Harry!" Ron said as he walked in. "Who's this?" He asked. "I'm Alexina, but you can call me Alex, you too Harry" she responded, adding the last comment. she waited a moment and spoke again. "and you are..."

"Oh right, I'm Ron, Ron Weasley"

"Nice to meet you Ron" and then she went back to her book.

The compartment door opening a third time pulled her out of her book. "Oh, for God's sake who is it now" she practically growled. Ron and I looked at each other. Doesn't sound like we'd want to be on her bad side. "Hey Harry, Ron and...Who are you?" Draco said as he walked in. "Hey," Harry and Ron said at the same time Alexina introduced herself. "Alex? Alex what?" She raised an eyebrow "I mean, what's your last name?" Draco corrected himself "Cain" She responded with an amused smile "My last name is Cain"

"Are you a muggleborn?" Her eyes narrowed "Not that there's anything wrong with that" he added hastily "I'm just curious"

"Yes I am, and are you planning to come in anytime soon, or are you comfortable standing there?" She asked, putting her book away. Draco flushed but came inside and took the seat next to Alex. All of laughed and talked for most of the ride. Binging on the treats we bought when the trolley lady came by earlier. We also discovered that Mia was very powerful. With and without a wand. We figured that out when Marcus Flint, a fifth year Slytherin, came into our compartment and told Draco to "stop hanging out with a mud-blood like her." Alexina had snarled and pushed her hand towards him, which caused him to be thrown back against the door of the compartment opposite us. She then swiped her hand across the door and even though she didn't touch it, it slid shut and locked. Draco, Ron and I had stared at her in awe and bombarded her with questions, to which she responded "I just can" and shrugged while drawing our attention to something else.

The announcement that we were five minutes away from Hogwarts made our excitement - and nerves - come back full force. We all changed in the compartment since none of really cared that there was someone from the opposite gender there. When it was announced that we had reached the platform, the four of quickly got off and followed Harry down to the boats. I saw a fleeting look of awe on Alex's face before she masked it with a laugh at something Ron said. The four of them sat in one boat, talking and laughing even as they walked into the entrance hall of the castle.

My mother introduced herself to those who didn't know her. She also told them that they would be taken into the Great Hall to be sorted shortly and should try and neaten themselves up, before walking back into the hall. Alex ran a hand through her hair, her magic taking out the knots and tangles and making her seem presentable enough. He saw some of the other first years looking at her, wondering how she did that and some of them openly gaping at the color of her hair and eyes. He knew it wasn't a normal hair color, but then again she wasn't normal either, so it fits. People screaming drew our attention to the ghosts that had suddenly appeared. We looked like the only ones who were fascinated and not scared of them. Alex had read about them in Hogwarts: A history and the three of us had met them before when we accompanied our parents here.

My mother - I guess I should call her professor Potter now - walked back into the hall and told us to get in a single file. As we walked into the hall, I saw Alex look up at the ceiling and smile a bit. I nudged her and whispered "What are you looking at" she looked at me and answered "The enchanted ceiling, the charm work is very well done." both of us turned back to the sorting. It wasn't long before Alex's name was called. Her last name did start with a C after all.
