Chapter 8

Lily POV

"James…What do you think of Alex?" I asked James, wanting to get his opinion on her. I felt him turn to look at me on our bed.

"Why do you ask?" I hit his arm

"Okay, okay, jeez woman no need to get violent! I think she's great. I don't know how she did it but she was able to get Roe to love her in under five minutes! Roe, the same one who took almost two years to get comfortable calling Padfoot and moony anything but 'Uncle Sirius' and 'Uncle Remus'. Alex also got Roe into bed and asleep without complaining even once. I think she's a bloody miracle. Also, it's kind of hard to not like the girl who saved your son's life - more than once! Why?… Do you not like her?" His tone took a wary, worried turn by the time he finished, so I was quick to placate him.

"Oh no, it's quite the opposite really, I love her as if she were my own already, and I barely know her! I feel quite protective and almost motherly as well towards her. Honestly, no child should have to go through what she has. Even if you look past that, her magical ability is simply amazing for someone her age, especially one who didn't even know that magic existed until a couple of months ago. I was talking to Minerva and Filius earlier and they told me that she picks up spells like its second nature. There isn't one spell she hasn't gotten right on the first try! Hell, even Snape said she was competent. Snape! He hates everyone! The most surprising thing is that she doesn't seem to see why people are starting to call her the brightest witch of our age already! She just takes every compliment and shrugs it off - as if she doesn't deserve them!" I was ranting by the time I was finished.

"So what do you suggest we do?" James asked

"I don't know. But we need to get her confidence levels up - maybe she could spend summer with us as well? That way we can keep an eye on her?"

"I would love to have her here, even Padfoot and moony love the girl and they only met her last night! Padfoot said she sort of reminds him of himself when he was younger - but worse."

I grimaced. Young Sirius had a lot of social and personal problems because of how he grew up.

"For now let's just go to bed. We can talk to them tomorrow after we open our presents" I said.

We both said goodnight and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the girl who had saved our lives many years ago.
