Chapter 1
"Give me that." Sheldon grabbed the smoking rocket fuel canister out of his roommate's hands, and placed it on the elevator floor before shoving Leonard out and pressing the "Close Doors" button as he exited the elevator himself. "What are you doing, I had plenty of timeā¦" Whatever Leonard was going to say was interrupted by an explosion that made the floor shake. A succession of thuds and clangs followed for the next few minutes, as pieces of the destroyed elevator fell to the bottom of the shaft.
Five minutes after that, the emergency services arrived in force. They carefully evacuated the building, the residents plus Howard and Raj being questioned floor by floor as to what had happened. Eventually, it came to Sheldon's turn. "I am going to tell them the truth, Leonard. You know I cannot keep a secret, and even if I could, doing so in this case would constitute abetting a felony." Leonard gaped like a fish. "You're going to what?! Sheldon, that's crazy!" "No, crazy was you succumbing to your baser biological urges and placing your desire for coitus with Joyce Kim over my safety, the safety of the apartment, the safety of the building, Wolowitz and Koothrapalli's safety, and your own." Leonard was slightly put out that Sheldon had put him at the bottom of the list, but he couldn't retort as the officers had taken Sheldon away.
Fifteen minutes later, Sheldon returned, not with police officers, but with an FBI agent. "Doctor Leonard Hofstadter, you are under arrest for theft, possession of hazardous materials, reckless endangerment, and treason." "Treason?! How did I commit treason?!" "From Doctor Cooper's testimony, you were intending to show your classified work to one Joyce Kim. Joyce Kim is an alias used by a woman the CIA and Homeland Security have been attempting to find for the past nine months as the culprit in several acts of industrial espionage."
Raj put it together first. "Dude! You were going to show classified work to a North Korean spy!" "I can neither confirm nor deny that, Doctor Koothrapalli. Officer, take Doctor Hofstadter away." Once the building was declared safe, Sheldon returned to his apartment. He restored the apartment flag on the fridge to the correct orientation, since the apartment was no longer in distress, then began the process of packing Leonard's possessions away in the moving boxes they had come in. Looking for a suitable storage site could come later, once he had a new roommate with a vehicle capable of transporting them.
This time, however, the vetting process would be a lot stricter. Due to Leonard's actions, a "Science before Relationships" clause would be added to the Roommate Agreement. Sheldon managed to perfect the wording that evening, just as the local PBS station was reporting the incident on the news. The signatory agrees that should they have classified work and subsequently enter into any form of relationship with a third party, (be it platonic, familial or conjugal) and the third party to the Agreement expresses interest in either signatory's work, the signatory must explain to the third party that their work is classified, and they are not permitted to talk about it or show it ( in part or in whole) to them for any reason, up to and including promise or denial of coitus (if in a conjugal relationship). If the third party is not accepting of this, the relationship must be terminated and all contact with the third party severed. If the third party requests or demands an explanation to these terms, they are to be referred to the Pasadena evening news report of July 16th, 2003.
Sheldon then started writing a new advertisement for a roommate. Hopefully the next one would last longer than 12 days.
