There was no way Dean was going to be sleep after that, whether it was true or not. He got out of the bed and redressed, ignoring Bobby he quickly went back downstairs to where his brother and dad were.

Johns head snapped up at the sound of his footsteps. "Dean, I got it." he started to say.

Dean ignored him too, focusing on Sam who was just staring at him. "Sam." he said, narrowing his eyes when Sam just barred his teeth at him. "Sam, where were you?"

Sam just blinked at that, closing his mouth and tilting his head. The movement made his hair move and Dean zeroed in on that, it was brushing his shoulders, it was longer.

"Sam," Dean said, moving towards him. Sam jerked back, trying to move away from him but kept in place by the chains. Dean reached out and grabbed Sams arm, dragging him back.

Staring into Sams eyes, trying to find a hint of something, he wasn't sure of what he was looking for but whatever it was, it wasn't there.

He tightened his grip on Sams arm, it had to hurt at this point, but Sam wasn't even winching, just staring at him.

Demons reveled in pain and torture, they excelled in it and adored it.

They, theoretically, have had Sam for years. Theoretically they used those tortures to break him and remake him.

Sam wasn't afraid of them, he'd seen worse and has been through worse, they wouldn't be able to break him like that.

Would the opposite work? Would they be able to get him back with kindness? Did they even have that in them?

But it also all depended on what those demons ingrained in Sams mind about them.

"Sam, what did Azazel tell you?" Dean asked, shaking him slightly to get his attention back on him.

Sam just smirked at that, breathing out a sound that could almost be considered a laugh, eyes sparkling.

Fine, Dean could play this game.

"What did your father tell you to do?" Dean asked, seeing John flinch from the corner of his eye.

Sam looked...almost pensive, as if he was considering to answer the question.

Finally, after what seemed forever, Sam said, "Find the other children." he half croaked out.

Dean jumped onto that. "What other children?"

"Special." Sam told him, voice rough. "Siblings."

That one hurt but he pushed it to the side, ignoring it, and kept going. "What's so special about these siblings?"

"They're other children that Azazel did something to." John injected, much to Deans surprise. "Same situation, different abilities."

Sam nodded. "Testing." he said. "Test or die."

Did Sam mean if he didn't find them he'd be killed? Or the test part, testing what? Was it a test for Sam or a test for those kids?

"Testing for what?" Dean asked, feeling his heart beating rapidly in his chest.

"Power." Sam said as if it was obvious, even rolling his eyes. "Only one."

Dean shared a look with his dad, pieces slowly coming together and he hated it.

If Azazel was setting these kids up for this, powers of whatever, and then sending Sam, Sam who was loyal to him, to test these kids...

The kids were human, just like Sam, yet they had almost psychic potentials, and Sam was being sent to 'test' them.

It meant that Sam was going to see if they were strong enough and if they weren't, they were killed.

But for what? What was the point of this? Was there even a point or was Azazel just doing this for a scientific experiment because he was bored?

"Why?" Dean asked, shaking Sam again when he started to look away again. "Why Sam, whats the point?"

"One." Sam told him simply. "Only one."

"Only one for what?" Dean pressed. "Okay, one sibling is left, what does one kid do?"

"Lead." Sam said, obviously. "Lead."

Dean almost felt like punching him and held back, it wasn't going to do any good if he does. "Lead what?"

Sam grinned at that, all teeth and no warmth. "Hell. Lead Hell."
