A/N: To DylanJ10000, once again, thank you for your review. Well, at the start of the movie, Georgie is 7 and Bill is 13, so if I'm making them have the same birthdays as their actors, then they have to be born in 1981 and 1975 respectively. If we went by your dates, Georgie would be 6 and Bill would be 12.
This chapter is a continuation of Crazy Asshole of a Brother.
"We've gotta do something about Avery, Bill," Georgie said. He sat at the foot of his brother's bed in exasperation. "We can't let Patrick win. We just can't."
Bill was resting on some pillows against the headboard. He held a bag of frozen peas underneath his left eye, where Patrick had punched him earlier in the day. "I kn-kn-know. We won't let him win. I know how g-g-good of a friend Avery is to you. Neither of you deserve to be s-s-separated from each other. The only problem is, I don't know how we sh-sh-should do it."
"Wish we could just kill Patrick."
"Georgie!"
"I'm just joking!"
"Well, don't j-j-joke like that. Not even with huge jerks like P-Patrick."
"It's not like anyone would miss him anyways. Not even Avery."
"We're not killing Patrick, Georgie."
"I know! I said I was joking! Jeez, Bill. Don't take things so seriously."
"Well, I thought this was a s-s-serious situation."
"It is, it is." Georgie started to think of an actual idea to get Avery back. "Could we just adopt Avery?"
"That's n-n-not gonna happen. And even if we did, I'd s-st-still see Patrick at school, and he'd just b-beat me up then for adopting his b-brother." Bill thought of other possible solutions. "I mean, so long as P-Patrick doesn't actually see you with Avery, he w-w-won't have a problem. You don't go to the s-same school as Patrick, so maybe you could just see Avery at s-s-school."
"But then I won't be able to see him for the rest of the summer!"
"What about your other friends? D-Dorsey, Katie—"
"Yeah, I know, but I wanna see Avery, too. Imagine if you couldn't see one of your friends for the rest of the summer. Like Eddie. You'd have your other friends, but you'd still miss Eddie."
"That's a good point."
"But I think you're on to something with not letting Patrick see us with Avery. Maybe we could have secret meetups. We can give Avery one of our walkie-talkies."
"Hm. Yeah, that's not a b-bad idea. But how will we give him the w-w-walkie-talkie without Patrick discovering us?"
"We could sneak out at night, go over to his house, tap on his window to get his attention, then we give the walkie-talkie to him."
"That sounds ridiculous…but it just m-m-might work. But then what if Patrick hears the walkie-talkie? Or he s-s-sees Avery with it?"
"Maybe that's just a risk we're going to have to take."
"And what if P-P-Patrick gets suspicious of Avery leaving by himself all the t-t-time? What if he asks where he's g-going?"
"Bill, I think you overestimate how much Patrick cares about Avery. He probably won't even notice when he's gone."
"Yeah…m-m-maybe you're right. Okay, then. As crazy as your plan seems, Georgie, I think it's the b-best chance we've got."
Bill's clock on his nightstand read 10:39 PM. His parents were well asleep by then, so he slowly opened his bedroom door and crept into Georgie's room. The younger Denbrough was sleeping in his bed, snugly wrapped in his blanket like a little burrito. Bill shook him. "Georgie," he whispered. "Come on, we have to go to Avery's."
"It's so late, though, Bill," Georgie said tiredly.
"This was your plan, Georgie."
"I know, I know," Georgie said, irritated as he unwrapped the blanket around him and changed from his pajamas to more proper clothes for going outside at night.
Bill and Georgie made sure to grab both of their walkie-talkies before they left the house. Once they did, they got on their respective bikes, and Georgie led the way to the Hockstetter house. He had only walked by there once, so he didn't know the way there like the back of his hand, but they still managed to find it. It was a fairly small, one-story house, painted a pastel blue.
"Great, now, wh-wh-which window is Avery's room?" Bill asked.
"I'm not sure," Georgie said. "Let's look around." Georgie climbed up the Hockstetters' fence at the side of the house and jumped down to explore the various windows along the sides.
"Georgie!" Bill angrily whispered. "What're you—" He sighed in frustration and climbed up the fence himself to reluctantly join Georgie.
Georgie looked through the first window. It was a room with heavy metal posters hung up on the wall, an electric guitar hooked up to an amplifier that was currently not in use, and a collection of animal skulls on a desk that Georgie dared not ask where they came from. Yep, this was Patrick's room, all right. The room was dark, but there was no one in bed.
"Where do you think Patrick is?" Georgie asked.
"I don't know. M-m-maybe out with his friends or something. Come on, let's hurry up and f-f-find Avery's room so we can leave."
The next window over led into a room with various action figures and toys strewn about, an orange lava lamp on the nightstand, and a small glass enclosure for a pet snake on a desk. In bed laid a small figure about the same size as Georgie. "This is Avery's room!" Georgie whispered excitedly. "I know it is! He told me he had a pet snake! There it is!"
"Alright, well, wake him up!" Bill said.
Georgie tapped on the window. Avery's body stirred in bed, but it didn't seem like he fully woke up. Georgie tapped on the window again, even louder this time. Avery turned around in bed to face the window, and he jolted in fear when he noticed there were two people at his window. Once he recognized who they were, though, he was filled with a sudden feeling of relief, and his body relaxed. Avery got out of bed, walked up to the window, and lifted up the pane to talk to the Denbroughs. "Hey, guys," he whispered. "What're you doing here? If my brother catches you, you're dead!"
"We know, but we wanted to give you this." Georgie handed Avery one of their walkie-talkies. It was labeled "TRTL 500", along with a piece of masking tape with "BILL" written on it. "Ignore that it says 'Bill'. This is so you and me can talk to each other, so we can plan to meet up with each other without your brother knowing."
"That's so smart! Thanks, Georgie!" Avery said.
"Just make sure Patrick doesn't find it."
"I will; don't worry."
"Denbrough," a sinister voice called out from the darkness outside, "what the fuck are you doing at my house?" Patrick stepped out from the shadows of the house and stood right before Bill and Georgie.
Without even letting a moment pass, the two Denbrough brothers made a mad dash toward the fence. Bill hoisted himself over it with ease, but Georgie had difficulty getting over, due to his short stature. Patrick was getting closer and closer to the young Denbrough, who was frantically trying to scramble up the fence.
"Billy, help me, please!" Georgie shouted in distress.
Bill didn't know what Patrick was going to do to Georgie once he reached him, but he sure as hell didn't want to find out. Bill reached over the fence, grabbed Georgie's arms, and lifted him up over the fence. But just as he was about to make it over, Patrick managed to grab one of Georgie's legs. Bill and Patrick played a disturbing game of tug-of-war with Georgie's body.
"What did I say about not wanting you or your piece-of-shit brother around Avery?" Patrick said venomously. "What part of that did you not understand?"
"Patrick, please, no!" Avery yelled from his window. "Mom and Dad are gonna wake up, and they'll kill you if you do anything to them!"
Georgie furiously kicked Patrick square in the jaw with his free leg, sending the teenager to the ground.
"Nice going, Georgie!" Bill said as he yanked his little brother completely over to his side of the fence.
Patrick got up from the ground and glared at the Denbrough brothers from behind the fence. He didn't go after them, though. His parents undoubtedly had been woken up by all the ruckus, and he didn't want there to be any more of a scene than there already was. He'd let them go this time, but only because of the circumstances.
Bill and Georgie quickly got on their bikes and pedaled away as fast as they could. "That was a c-c-close one," Bill said as he rode alongside Georgie.
"I know, I was so scared! I thought Patrick was gonna get me!"
"Well, I w-w-would've beaten him up if he had."
"But Patrick beat you up earlier today."
"Well…I still would've tried. Anything to s-s-save you."
"Thanks, Billy. Do you think Avery still has the walkie-talkie? Or do you think Patrick found it and took it from him?"
"I'm not sure. We can always t-t-try when we get home."
The brothers arrived back at home shortly after, and they quietly snuck back into the house. They silently crept up the stairs and slunk into Bill's room, carefully closing the door behind them.
"Alright, let's test out the w-w-walkie-talkie, see if Avery responds," Bill excitedly prompted Georgie.
"Okay, okay." Georgie spoke into the walkie-talkie, "Hello? Avery, can you hear me? This is Georgie." The other line was silent. Georgie's heart sank. Patrick must've gotten ahold of the walkie-talkie. Great, now he and Bill would have to buy a new pair. But suddenly, they heard static come through. "Hello?" Georgie repeated.
Finally, an answer, "Georgie! It's me, Avery!"
Georgie gasped with excitement. "Avery! You still have the walkie-talkie!"
"Yeah, luckily, my brother didn't see me with it."
"Great! Now we can set up secret meetings so we can still play without your brother knowing!"
"Yeah, we're like secret agents now!" Both boys laughed at the prospects of their cleverness.
"Well, I've got to get back to bed now, Avery. It's pretty late. But we'll see each other soon!"
"Yeah, see you soon, Georgie! Goodnight!"
"Goodnight!" Georgie turned off the walkie-talkie. He looked over to his big brother, who had a huge smile on his face.
"I'm so glad your p-p-plan worked!"
"Me too! We outsmarted that dumb bully Patrick."
"Yeah, we sure did. Well, like you s-said, it's getting late, Georgie. You sh-should go back to b-bed."
Georgie yawned. "Alright, see you tomorrow, Billy."
"Yep, see you tomorrow. Goodnight."
The little Denbrough left Bill's room for his own and returned to his cozy bed. He could sleep well, knowing that his friendship with Avery would not be stopped so easily.
