A trope I've seen a few times …

Brother Wand

Harry was sitting with Hermione at the Gryffindor table. He was looking at the Daily Prophet in front of him in disgust. A story on the front page was the source of his feeling:

Harry Potter: Savior or Dark Lord?

Somehow, Rita Skeeter had found out that his wand and Voldemort's had identical wand cores. He didn't know how. This added to the school's hatred because his name came out of the Goblet of Fire was not helping. Many students were looking at him with fear or hatred or both.

Suddenly, the doors of the Great Hall opened and several people walked in, led by Cornelius Fudge and a hideous woman wearing pink. Ludo Bagman was following though he didn't look happy. There were a few others. One was the one who had come the year before to kill Buckbeak. Another was a reporter and another was a photographer.

The Headmaster stood up. "Minister. To what do we owe the honor of your visit?"

Fudge face had a falsely self-righteous look. "We're here to deal with the Potter boy's wand. Although it was determined to be working at the wand-weighting ceremony, the fact that it is such a Dark artifact was not disclosed."

The woman was looking at Harry with a malicious smirk.

Harry protested immediately. "Just because my wand and Voldemort's have cores from the same creature does not make it Dark. If my wand is destroyed, I would be helpless."

The pink-covered woman spoke. "Hmm. Hmm." When everyone was looking at her she said in strident tones. "It is not your place to question the Ministry and its decrees! Minister Fudge has decreed that the wand is to be destroyed and it will be destroyed. And there is a rumour that the creature who provided the core is also still alive. The Ministry will see the creature destroyed to protect its citizens!"

At that, Harry looked at the woman in complete dumb shock. Didn't she know ….? "You're saying that the creature that provided the core is to be killed?"

"Of course!" she spluttered.

Harry looked over at Dumbledore who no longer had the kindly grandfather expression. He was obviously trying to get himself under control, which Harry understood.

He looked back at the Ministry people who were completely focused on him. He called out, "Fawkes!"

With a sudden flash, a phoenix appeared in the front everyone in the hall, startling them. The phoenix trilled toward Harry in greeting. Fawkes then flew over to land on Dumbledore's shoulder to give a calming song. Dumbledore's expression lightened slightly.

Harry noticed that the hall was torn between confused and interested. The Ministry people looked irritated. The ugly woman spoke again. "I don't know why that you have interrupted our legal orders but it will stop now! You will hand over the wand and then tell us where the creature which provided the core is!"

Harry looked at the woman and said, "But that's just it: There," he pointed toward Fawkes, "is the creature which provided my wand core. You have just ordered the destruction of a phoenix, the bonded familiar of Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts. Did you bring enough wizards to subdue him while threatening Fawkes?"

The Ministry people then truly looked at Dumbledore and saw his face had a deadly resolve, which had been reduced a small amount due to Fawkes efforts. Fudge's face took on a frightened look. The pink toad also looked more leery. Those with them looked terrified.

Dumbledore finally spoke. "This matter is not for the students to watch. And so I will say: Get out. Do not contact me until I have returned to a calm state. I will go to the Ministry to deal with the matter. Very soon." The fact that his magical aura was almost palpable lent credence to his lack of calm. Fawkes was desperately attempting to calm him down.

Harry sighed in relief.

He didn't know how the Ministry could be so stupid. Ollivander used three items in his wands: Dragon heartstrings, unicorn hair and phoenix feathers. Dragon heartstrings meant that the creature would be bead already. That left unicorns and phoenixes. Who would have killed either creature for being evil?

All he know was this: His wand was still in his hand at the moment. And that was all that mattered right then.
