Afternoon arrives and I feel my stomach begin to rumble. Edward tilts his head and looks down at me, "it's about lunch time. What do you say we have our cooking lesson now?" he asks.
I nod and reply, "whats on the menu?"
He smiles down at me, "home made chicken noodle soup...with fresh noodles."
I stand up and pull him with me to the kitchen, "okay chef, teach me your ways!" I laugh.
Edward chuckles lightly and gathers the ingredients, laying them on the counter. I do as I am instructed and cut up slices of carrots, onions and celery while he cuts up slices of chicken. I add my sauteed veggies to the pot of chicken broth along with the sauteed, sliced chicken and Edward makes a dough for the noodles. Once the dough is rolled out Edward stands behind me, reaching around, placing his hands over mine and guides me while cutting strips of dough. "Now we let the noodles sit for a few," he says.
I pull myself up on the counter and stare down at my floured hands before reaching over, and swiping my finger across Edward's nose while grinning, leaving a trail of flour behind. Edward walks closer and stands between my thighs, "careful, Isabella, its messy in here." he teases.
He gently takes my face in his hands and brushes his lips over mine. I return his kiss and pull him closer, wrapping my legs around him. I slide my tongue out and into Edward's mouth, dancing along his and he scoops me into his arms and carries me into the living room. He sits on the couch, leaving me to straddle him and grips his fingers into my hair as I deepen the kiss. Edward pulls back slightly, slowing us down, eventually stopping and smirks, "you've got flour all over now."
"I don't care." I reply and pull his face back to me before reaching down between us and sliding my hand into his pants.
Edward stops me and puts some space between us, "someones in a feisty mood."
I shrug, "yeah, and?"
Edward frowns a bit, "i dont want to further confuse you Bella...is this what you want?"
Frustrated at this point I sigh and agree, "you're right. I'm sorry, can we just finish lunch now?"
Edward nods, looking defeated, as I climb off of his lap and walk over to retrieve my phone, hearing its familiar ping. Edward is back in the kitchen, adding noodles to the pot of chicken and veggies, he turns the heat on to let it simmer. I unlock my phone screen and see a couple of texts from Emmett. I click on the messages to read them, "tomorrow would be fine. No pressure Bells." The most recent one reading, "but I was actually hoping I could maybe take you out to dinner tonight?" I bite my lower lip and stare into the kitchen at Edward. Emmett never would have rejected me, he would have been unable to keep his hands off of me and we wouldn't have even been able to finish making lunch. I scroll through the endless list of shows and movies on Netflix and pick the next one I stop on just to drown out the silence. A short time later, as I'm hooked on a show about convicted killers of death row, Edward brings me a bowl of the soup we made and hands it out toward me. I take it from him and quietly say, "thank you."
"I'm sorry if I upset you earlier, Bella." he says into the stale air between us.
I shrug and slurp down a bite of chicken noodle, "its fine, I get what you were saying. I'm sorry."
He studies my face and shakes his head, "you have nothing to apologize for."
I finish my bowl and sigh satisfactorily, "that was delicious."
Edward smiles, "I'm glad to have spent the time with you to make it."
I bite my lower lip nervously and look over at Edward, "Edward, I think I'd like to go home tonight."
He nods, "okay i will put our things into the car and you can get ready. We will head out in an hour."
I take my bowl and spoon into the kitchen and wash them both. I dry them and put them back into their appropriate places before heading back towards the bedroom. I decide to finally change out of my pajamas and reply to Emmett's text, "Dinner sounds amazing. Leaving for home soon." I decide feeling guilty will do me no good and I need to settle the air or whatever this is between Emmett and I and clearly Edward needs to do the same with Rosalie.
I carry the remainder of my things out to the car as Edward is closing the trunk. I place my duffle bag into the back of the car and open the passenger door before climbing in.
The drive is mostly silent before I look over at Edward and say, "I'm having dinner with Emmett tonight."
Edward tightens his grip on the steering wheel but only replies with, "okay."
I pick at the skin around my fingernails and suggest, "I think you have some things you need to address with Rosalie, so maybe you should go see her tonight too."
Edward looks over at me, his expression softening, "you're right. I do."
Shocked that this did not become an argument, I slip my earbuds in and turn on some music before anything else is said.
As we approach town, I'm glad I decided to get my own apartment. My own space is exactly what I need right now. A breather before I face my feelings with Emmett tonight. Edward is at my door, opening it before I can do it myself, and then he circles back to the trunk grabbing my things.
"Thank you," i say as I reach a hand out, "I can take them up, really."
Edward seems let down as I stop him from coming up to my apartment. He embraces me in a hug, "I'll see you soon?"
I nod, "yes, soon." I reply, whatever that "soon" may entail.
