Back in the Past
May's stomach did a flip and she groaned. Her stomach continued to roll and she thought she might throw up. She didn't and she just lay down on the bed, trying not to think about anything. She was exhausted. She hadn't been lying when she told Coulson that she was tired. Tempting as it was to fall asleep, she had to get up and get busy. With four agents out of commission, she had to do something to contribute to her team. She got up and went to the bathroom and got some water. These were good ways to calm a stomach. It helped a little bit, but not much. She went to make some tea to calm her stomach. On the way to the kitchen, the hallway was spinning. She held onto the wall until the dizziness went away. Mack was passing by and stopped to see if May was alright.
"You okay?" He asked his face in a concerned frown.
"I'm just tired," She was about to say when a wave of pain from her head washed over her. She let out a small groan.
"You sure you're okay?" He asked, with growing concern evident in his voice.
May didn't want to admit it. She hated being weak. But she knew there was nothing she could say to make Mack think she was alright.
"I'm a little dizzy," She admitted. "My head hurts."
"You want me to take you to the lab?" Mack wondered.
"Sure," She said, too tired to argue."There's no one there, remember? Fitz and Simmons are both sick."
"I know, but I know how to make soup and take someone's temperature. I can give medicine."
"Thank you," May replied, grateful for his help. "Please don't tell Coulson."
"I think he would want to know that his best friend is sick."
"I know. Just do what you have to do, okay?"
"Sounds good."
They walked to the lab. When they got there, they found Jemma rummaging through the cabinets.
"Where did I put that Flu medicine?" She muttered.
"Jemma?" May asked weakly, "What are you doing out of bed?"
Jemma looked over at them.
"I could ask you the same thing," She replied. "You look terrible."
"Thanks," May said, "Now, what are you doing?"
"Just getting some Flu medicine for Fitz and I. Do you want some?"
"Sure," Mack replied, seeing as May was too spaced out and tired to answer.
Jemma handed him some Flu medicine once she found it. Being the scientist and doctor she was, she had to make sure that May took the medicine and Mack took her temperature before she went back to bed.
"101," He said. "You definitely have a fever."
May groaned.
"Where's Coulson?" She asked, looking around. "I need him."
"I'll go get him," Mack said. "Can I leave you here alone?"
May nodded.
He left and May was in the lab by herself. After what seemed like an eternity, Coulson came in.
"Hey, Melinda," He said softly. "You're just tired, huh?"
May couldn't even come up with a good comeback.
"Let's get you to bed," He said.
He called Mack to come and help him. They carried her to her room. They put her on her bed and Coulson tucked her in.
"Goodnight, Melinda," He said when Mack had gone.
He kissed her on the forehead.
"I love you," He whispered.
"I love you too," She replied, barely a whisper.
"I'll be back in a little while."
Coulson left and May was left to her thoughts. The Flu medicine was starting to kick in and it made her a little loopy. She kept thinking she saw Charlotte. Her little girl, just starting to crawl. She wanted to hold her in her arms, but before she could do so, Charlotte was gone. She just started sobbing. She didn't stop until Coulson's arms were wrapped around her.
